SSA Controversy: Offices On Govt House Pool, Oranmiyan Created Under APC – Adeleke

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has responded to the controversy sparked by the appointment of Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) on Government House Pool and Oranmiyan new town, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) originated the offices.

This comes after the wide circulation of an August 9, 2023 memo in which the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, notified Oyetunji Rasaki Abefe of his appointment as the SSA to the Governor on Government House Pool.

“Government House Pool is a term referring to the transport unit of Government House,” said a statement by the spokesperson for the governor, Olawale Rasheed, on Friday.

“The section deals with drivers and vehicles within the Government House. The office, a creation of the previous governments of the All Progressive Congress(APC) has been in existence for the past twelve or so years.”

Clarifications on Appointment of SSAs on Government House Pool and Oranmiyan New Town

The attention of the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has been drawn to a deliberate, mischievous misrepresentation and misinterpretation of the appointments of Senior Special Assistant on Government House Pool and Oranmiyan new town.

We appreciate those who truly need to be educated on the appointments. We also commend those who have personally and collectively explained the role of the two offices to the members of the public. It is true some people are truly ignorant of the offices.

We also note that some people are simply mischievous and deliberately twisting facts for political reasons. Those critics are those seeking to gain political capital out of nothing by making mountains out of molehills.

We therefore seek to clarify that Government House Pool is a term referring to the transport unit of Government House. The section deals with drivers and vehicles within the Government House. The office , a creation of the previous governments of the All Progressive Congress(APC) has been in existence for the past twelve or so years.

Members of the public are aware that there are hundreds of drivers and vehicles (both old and new) in the Government House. In the interest of sustainable management of those assets, an SSA is appointed to coordinate and even oversee activities and operations in that sector.

We also wish to note and clarify another misrepresentation on the appointment of an SSA for Oranmiyan town. Again, the previous APC Government created a diaspora estate programme involving a new settlement named Oranmiyan new town. There is actually a new town development body. The newly appointed SSA is charged with ensuring achievement of government goals in those areas, especially ensuring protection of investment of Diasporans.

The two appointments are therefore necessary and required. They were never frivolous jobs for the boys as some partisan critics have termed it. While those offices were inherited, it is also worthy of note to state that Governor Adeleke has demonstrated strong will to retain what is good and jettison what is bad.

In the two cases under consideration, the two offices are necessary to protect and effectively manage public and private assets.

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has just resigned his position as leader of the ruling party. The National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore is said to be following suit.

Adamu has been facing many battles since party won the February 25, 2023 presidential election, the outcome of which is now being vehemently contested by major opposition parties and their candidates led by Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that some influential members of the party have been calling for the resignation of Adamu and the national secretary.

Impeccable sources within the ruling party and the Presidency who would not want to be named confirmed to Prime Business Africa (PBA) on Sunday night (July 16, 2023) that Adamu “resigned a few minutes ago on the orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The embattled former chairman had fixed a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting for Monday July 17 preparatory to the Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of July 18 and 19 respectively.

What becomes of the meeting originally planned for Monday is now a matter of conjecture.

Recall that the APC had scheduled the same NWC, Caucus and NEC meetings for last week but had to move it to July 17, 18 and 19 owing to internal disagreements and intra-party politics.

PBA Sunday night gathered on good authority that the NWC and Mr President did not have an agenda for the meetings, the reason they were postponed, no thanks allegedly to the national Chairman, Senator Adamu.

It was also gathered authoritatively that all members of the NWC ” are on the same page” regarding the compulsory resignation of the National Chairman and his Secretary, Omisore.

The NWC members are also said to be miffed by alleged lack of transparency in the party’s 2022 Account audit, which they said was “surreptitiously secured and submitted without any of the members sighting it.”

Zulum releases 80 luxurious buses, and pick-up vans to farmers

To reduce the high cost of living caused by the withdrawal of fuel subsidy, Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday, released 80 buses and pick-up vans for free transportation of farmers from their communities to farmlands.

The 80 means of transport will comprise 50 luxurious buses to be allocated from the fleet of the Borno Express Corporation, a state-owned transport company, while the state 30 pick-up vans will be hired and provided by the state government.

“We are here purposely to support the farmers, you can see thousands of them have gathered and their numbers can reach up to 100,000. Due to the removal of fuel subsidies which although has a long-term benefit, the cost of transportation has increased. Therefore, Borno State Government has decided to provide 50 buses (and 30 pick-up vans) to convey farmers to their farmlands this rainy season”, Zulum said.

… Urges farmers to cooperate with soldiers

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum while addressing thousands of farmers, urged them to cooperate with soldiers, Police and other security agencies deployed to roads to protect citizens including farmers who go to the outskirts to access their farmlands.

“I want to urge you (farmers) to give maximum support and cooperation to the Nigerian Military. They (soldiers) are here to protect you”, Zulum said.

The governor expressed gratitude to the military for their sacrifices in protecting Borno’s people which is now enabling farming activities across the state.

The Nigerian economy realised N1.103 trillion from internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2018. At the rate of N360/$, the total revenue generated would amount to $3.07 billion. The story is not in which state generated what; it is in the fact that over seventy percent of the total IGR came from three regions. This has implications for so many things. Internal migration or inter-state relocations will continue until some equilibrium is reached because as human beings, Nigerians will continue to move to regions or states where there are more economic opportunities.

Knowing the regions that contributed the most to the total IGR required that we regrouped the states in Nigeria along seven geopolitical zones or regional economies. The 36 states in Nigeria (Excluding FCT Abuja) were divided into seven economies or regions, with Lagos State, the commercial nerve centre of the nation and Africa’s fifth biggest economy treated as a region on its own. The essence is just for a more comprehensive analysis with a period of reference between 2016 and 2018. Thus, we have Lagos, South West (SW), South East (SE), South-South (SS), North Central (NC), North West (NW) and North East (NE). The major parameters adopted are the internally generated revenue (IGR), its growth rates among states, regions and the share of each regional economy in total IGR.

Beyond the fact that the 36 states in Nigeria made N1.103 trillion as internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2018, which was 17.83 percent higher than N936.47 billion IGR made in 2017, we can also unveil more insights into the financial performance of states in Nigeria; including the IGR figures as they revealed a lot of weaknesses that states or regions must urgently addressed.

For instance, within the south east regional economy, why should Enugu State generate more IGR than Anambra, which is an industrial state with many billionaires? Still, in the south east, Abia State has very vibrant SME clusters within the Aba market, and assuming we measure the size of a state economy by its IGR, Enugu State’s economy will be bigger than Abia and Ebonyi states combined (using 2018 IGR).

In the south west regional economy comprising Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states; the combined 2018 IGR of Ondo, Ekiti, Osun and Oyo states is N66.27 billion, much lower than N84.55 billion IGR realised by Ogun State last year.

Oyo, Enugu and Kaduna states were the capitals of the then western, eastern and northern regional governments. In 2018, Kaduna State accounted for 24 percent of the IGR from the north west regional economy. Enugu State accounted for 29 percent of south east regional economy. On its part, Oyo State’s share of south west regional economy was just 16 percent, meaning that the state made the least contribution to regional growth in 2018 among the states that were the defunct regional capitals.

President-elect departs Nigeria Wednesday afternoon for Europe on working visit

President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday afternoon left Nigeria for Europe on a working visit.

He will use the opportunity of the trip to finetune the transition plans and programmes, and his policy options with some of his key aides without unnecessary pressures and distractions.

During the visit, the President-elect will engage with investors and other key allies with the goal of marketing investment opportunities in the country and his administration’s readiness to enable a business-friendly climate through policies and regulations.

Already, meetings with multi-sectoral actors in Europe’s business community including manufacturing, agriculture, tech and energy have been lined up.

Asíwájú Tinubu hopes to convince them of Nigeria’s readiness to do business under his leadership through mutually-beneficial partnerships premised on jobs creation and skills acquisition.

Reviving the country’s economy forms a major plank of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and the meeting is part of his efforts to re-establish Nigeria’s importance in the global economic chain and create empowering opportunities for the country’s huge youth population.

The President-elect has hitherto promised to hit the ground running and the visit is reflective of his commitment to the promise as he has already begun talks with global actors in the important areas of the economy and security.

Especially when I drove from Jalingo- wukari- Zaki biam- katsina Ala- vandekiya-Ogoja . Immediately I entered into ebonyi I was marveled with the job this guy puts in I couldn’t believe I transcend through 3 different state of taraba, benue and cross river never see any meaningful development .

Immediately I left ebonyi to Enugu- awka , onitsha asaba , Benin and ogun state I can’t compare them to ebonyi.
