A student who paid hundreds of pounds for an iPhone box filled with concrete wants to stop others falling victim to the scam.

Newcastle University student Omar thought he had found a bargain when he discovered a new iPhone X for sale online for £650.


Little did he realise that he was about to become the victim of a fraudster who used concrete putty to make the empty box feel heavier.

Using the boot sale app Shpock, Omar arranged for the phone to be brought to his accommodation in central Newcastle on April 3 by a man called “Jamie”.

He handed over the £650 in cash and “Jamie” wrote out a receipt with an address in Sunderland.

Omar said: “Once I gave him the money he kind of almost ran away.

“It was actually a present for my mum, that’s why I didn’t open it on the spot, I wanted to give it to her sealed.”

Omar, who has asked us not to share his full name, only realised what had happened once the scammer had driven off.

“Once I got back to my room I opened it and I soon realised it was a scam.

“The concrete he used matches the weight of the actual iPhone X.

“I have quite a lot of Apple products and I have held the box, I know what it weighs and it’s very similar.

“I had to pay my rent a week or two later so I struggled with that.

“I was not cautious enough and feel quite stupid about what I did.”

After contacting the police, officers took the box away for analysis but have so far been unable to trace the man responsible.

Omar, who is originally from London, believes the criminal is still operating on Shpock and has warned others to take care buying phones online.

He added: “£650 is quite a lot of money for a student or for anyone.

“I hope the person gets caught.”

A lot of Black people have criticized tennis champion Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams for marrying and dating White men, instead of sticking with Black brothers. The mother-of-one has now explained her reason for marrying Alexis Ohanian.

She said in an interview with The New York Times that she married Alexis because love "has no color". She added that she wanted to be with someone who treated her nice and Alexis was that someone.

Serena's private life will soon be made public with the premiere on Wednesday of a five-part series on HBO called "Being Serena". The series tracks her pregnancy, her life-threatening postnatal problems and her comeback.

In the docuseries, Serena expressed surprise that she and Ohanian "are such a good fit."

She said: "I’m an athlete. He’s a business guy. I’m black. He’s white. We are totally opposite. I think we just complement each other. I think we understand hard work in different ways."







Serena Williams' marriage to a White guy might come as a surprise to anyone who has read her father Richard Williams’s 2014 memoir, “Black and White: The Way I See It". The book captured how much resentment he felt about the racism he faced growing up in the American South and how intent he was on preparing his tennis-playing daughters to handle being outsiders in a predominantly white sport. Racist comments that he said he heard at the tournament in Indian Wells, Calif., in 2001 were a big part of the reason Serena and Venus Williams boycotted the event for more than a decade.

Christopher Clarey, The New York Times sports columnist, asked Serena, who had dated black men and white men, what message her marriage to Ohanian sent and she replied:

Oh my God. Literally all I tell Alexis is, ‘well, you know, there’s such a difference between white people and black people.’ He always gets to hear about the injustices that happen; that wouldn’t happen if I were white. It’s interesting.

I never thought I would have married a white guy, either, so it just goes to show you that love truly has no color, and it just really goes to show me the importance of what love is. And my dad absolutely loves Alexis.

Ultimately I wanted to be with someone who treated me nice, someone who was able to laugh with me and someone who understood my life and someone that loved me.

She added, "And you know, I’m sure there’s other people out there," she paused for effect and then laughed. "But you know, Alexis is the one I connected with, and I wouldn’t have it any other way."

Brenda Barattini, the Argentine woman accused of cutting off her boyfriend’s penis with gardening scissors said she was provoked because he showed his friends their homemade sex tape.



The 26-year-old Barattini, allegedly committed the revenge attack in the Nueva Cordoba area of the Argentine city of Cordoba last November, which left her 40-year-old boyfriend with 90 percent of his penis chopped off, and in life-threatening condition.

Barattini, who is serving imprisonment without bail ahead of her trial, said she suffered great psychological harm because of the leaked tape by her boyfriend Sergio Fernandez. “I cut his penis but not completely: I injured him. It wasn’t complete: I injured him,” she said, according to a translation of her jail interview. The man has been left depressed, one of his attorneys said, as he waits for future operations.



According to Fox News, hospital employees were unable to reattach Fernandez penis. The incident rings similar to the case of Lorena Bobbitt, a woman who, in 1993, cut off her husband’s penis while he was sleeping. Bobbitt said she did it because she “snapped” after her husband allegedly raped her the previous night.

A picture of Manchester City star Yaya Touré who is married – kissing a gorgeous R&B singer, has emerged after it was shared on Instagram. The Ivory Coast international star appears in an intimate snap posted by Tanika Bailey, 28, from London.

A friend of Tanika said: “They are very happy when they are together.”

Tanika recently posted a photo on Instagram captioned “Tanika Touré.”

She also posted the picture online of her and Toure, 34, sharing a kiss and a hug.



A source said: “They are very close. Yaya has been bowled over by Tanika and she’s fallen for him.”

Tanika, 28, has previously performed with grime sensation Stormzy but is now keen to carve out a solo career.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he can be Nigeria’s president without visiting the United States of America.

Atiku stated this on Saturday during an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation Hausa Service when he was asked how he intended to be Nigeria’s president without visiting the US.

He asked whether it was a constitutional provision that one must visit the US before becoming president.

“I can be president without going to America,” he said.

In the interview monitored by our correspondent in Kaduna, Atiku also commented on a statement credited to his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, that he (Atiku) would not be President while he was alive.

He stated that Obasanjo was not God, saying that he didn’t lose sleep when he learnt that Obasanjo made such a statement.

According to him, if it is God’s will for him to be president, nobody, not even Obasanjo, can challenge God.

The ex-VP also confirmed that he was denied a US visa when he wanted to travel to that country.

He said he was told by the US that his application for visa was denied because it was passing through administrative process.

He also spoke about a house in the US said to belong to him and auctioned by the government of that country.

Atiku said the house belonged to one of his wives, adding that, “All my wives own houses and that particular house is not mine. It belonged to one of my wives. She sold the house and was never auctioned as it was reported.”

He further spoke on the rift between him and President Muhammad Buhari, saying the President could not control happenings in the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He said that was one of the reasons he left the party and returned to his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party, where he was a founding member.

Atiku said, “After 2015 general elections, I met the President. I told him that activities of the party have been crippled and there is a need to restructure.

“Also, I advised the President on issues concerning his administration. I said to him, ‘If things continue like this, I will quit’, but Mr. Buhari turned a deaf ear and remained mum.”

On why the government was yet to defeat Boko Haram for eight years, Atiku said if he emerged as president, he would investigate the years the government used in fighting the insurgents.

He added, “If elected Nigeria’s president, I will investigate how the government was unable to defeat Boko Haram. The Federal Government ended the civil war in 30 months, but it is now eight years it can’t not defeat a group of boys who are not trained.”

“Earlier in the morning, Senator Dino Melaye as a law-abiding citizen voluntarily submitted himself to the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) who had laid siege to his private residence since 3.35pm of Monday, April 23, 2018.

President Buhari has described as vile and satanic the killing of worshippers and two priests at a Catholic church in Ukpor-Mbalom community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.

Gunmen suspected to be herders in the early hours of today, Tuesday April 24th, killed two Catholic priests, Rev Fathers Gor Joseph and Fr.Felix

Tyolaha alongside 17 parishioners in Ayar Mbalom community of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.


According to DailyTrust, the deceased were observing the 5.30am mass when the gunmen invaded the church and started shooting at the congregation.

The slain priests, Revd. Frs. Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha and other victims were butchered to death by the assailants.



Their remains have been deposited at the Bishop Murray Medical Centre, Makurdi.

In a tensed finale, Miracle has emerged as the winner of 2018 BBNaija Reality TV Show tagged “Double Wahala”.

Big brother Naija housemate Alex has had her mother’s kitchen refurbished by Dano after winning the competition organized by Dano for housemates.

Five top finalists, including Miracle, Tobi, Cee C, Nina and Alex are in the race for the all-important grand prize. At the end of last Sunday’s show, Anto, Lolu and Khloe, the trio who polled the least number of votes, were evicted from the #BBNaija house, leaving five housemates to battle for the prize.

It has been a long journey for the top five finalists and whoever emerges the winner tomorrow, will instantly become a millionaire. Interestingly, 20 housemates namely; Princess, Bitto, Khloe, K Brule, DeeOne, Vandora, Ahneeka, Angel, Leo, IfuEnnada, Anto, Teddy A, Bam Bam, Rico Swavey, Lolu, Nina, Miracle, Alex, Tobi and Ceec began the race, but only five of them made it to the final.

While this third season of the reality show tagged “Double Wahala” has been punctuated with breakups, makeups and a dirty fight that led to the disqualification of two housemates, the show equally has lived up to its billing as the most watched show across the continent.



Recall that three weeks into the show, housemates Khloe and her strategic partner K Brule were disqualified from the game for quarreling, using profane words on each other, an act that is against the big brother house rules.

However, Khloe was lucky to return into the house when big brother presented an opportunity for two evicted housemates to be voted back into the house. This opportunity saw Khloe and Anto who had also been evicted earlier on, return into the big brother house.

Also, after staying three weeks in the house, Princess, Bitto, DeeOne and Vandora were evicted on the first live eviction show of the season hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchenndu, making them the first set of housemates to be evicted from the show.



As the weeks went by, Ahneeka, Angel, Leo, IfuEnnada, Teddy A, Bam Bam, Rico Swavey, Anto, Khloe and Lolu were evicted respectively from the show, leaving behind five housemates to battle for the grand prize.

A 24-year-old woman is set to become 76-year-old South African former President Jacob Zuma’s seventh wife.
The beautiful lady, identified as Nonkanyiso Conco confirmed to the Times Live that she and Zuma are getting married.

“Yes‚ we are getting married‚ but that is all I can say. I need to consult before I give any interviews‚” she said.

News24 reports that the woman gave birth to a baby last week at the Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital last Thursday – Zuma’s birthday.

Conco is a director of the Pietermaritzburg-based Nomkhubulwane Culture and Youth Development Organisation‚ aimed at protecting the cultural practices of Zulu maidens.

Conco reportedly resides in the plush Ballito Estate Hilltop‚ home to some of the city’s most well-heeled residents. She would be Zuma’s youngest bride‚ at 52 years his junior.

Zuma‚ who has always been a proponent of polygamy‚ is currently married to Gertrude Sizakele Khumalo‚ Thobeka Madiba-Zuma and Bongi Ngema-Zuma. He is divorced from Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and separated from Nompumelelo MaNtuli Zuma.

In total, Zuma has fathered 22 known children from at least 11 women.

Three independent sources confirmed to News24 that Zuma came to visit his baby under strict security on Thursday night.

“They had to clear the maternity ward for other patients. Hospital staff made it clear that this was strictly confidential,” a source with direct knowledge of the birth told News24.

Ray Zuma, who is related to the former president, confirmed to News24 that Zuma was going to wed a woman named Nonkanyiso Chonco.

When asked if Chonco was the same woman who had given birth to a baby earlier this month, Ray Zuma responded by saying: “So?”

“I can’t see why you are interested. When he was still the president, you [the media] were terrorising him, and now you are all of a sudden interested in him.”

When asked about the details of the wedding, he said he was not privy to the details.
“No date has been set yet. Both families must come together to decide on the date. We are still in the pre-nuptial phases of the process.”

When News24 visited the hospital earlier in the week, an employee confirmed that Zuma had visited the facility.

“Yes he was here last week. I saw him with his security. I do not know why he came through.”
But other sources confirmed the baby was Zuma’s. Hospital staff were briefed to keep it a closely guarded secret and only told “this is JZ’s child” and a “VIP delivery”.
Hillcrest Private Hospital management declined to comment saying they would not divulge details of any patient.

The Nigerian Army has arrested about 23 suspected cultists in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State while they were conducting an initiation ritual for new recruits

The army also said that it arrested 15 other persons suspected to be pipeline vandals and recovered 31 Jerry cans of refined petroleum products in the process.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Enobong Udoh, stated this at a news conference at the 174 Battalion, Ikorodu area of Lagos.

Udoh, who was represented by the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Moundhey Ali, said the suspects were arrested at different times and locations.



He explained that the arrests were a result of intensive surveillance and intelligence report.

“In continuation of the crackdown on criminal elements and cultists in and around Lagos and Ogun states, the troops of 81 Division arrested 23 suspected cultists in Ikorodu area on April 16.

“Over 50 suspected cultists from “Eiye” confraternity were conducting physical training for new recruits, initiation and planning for robbery and kidnap activities.

“Their arrest was preceded by a shootout between the troops of 174 Battalion Ikorodu and the cultists after which, 23 of the suspected cultists were arrested while others escaped,’’ he said.

The GOC said that two of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds, adding that one of the suspected newly-recruited cultists died as a result of injuries inflicted on him during the cult initiation.

“However, one of our gallant soldiers, while combatting the cultists sustained a gunshot wound on his left leg during the encounter and was immediately evacuated.

“The soldier and the 2 wounded cultists are receiving treatment at the Battalion’s Medical Reception Station.

“Items recovered from the suspects include one locally-made double barrel pistol, five live cartridges, five machetes, four jack knives, two table knives, three locally-fabricated axes with nail like edges and five mobile phones.


“Also recovered from them are one parcel containing substance suspected to be Indian hemp. Others are two ATM cards, eight identity cards,
nine passport photographs, packets of condom, rings and a variety of charms,’’ the statement read.
