Rain has caused a total havoc to a newly constructed road in a community in Enugu State. A viral photo shared online by social media users showed how rain washed off a culvert which was constructed to send stormy water across to the other side of the road thereby, cutting off the road. According to report, the Neke/Mbu/Ogbodu-Abba/Obollo-Etiti World Bank road is only 6 months old before being washed off by the rain yesterday. Reacting to the the viral photos, the Enugu State Government in a press release said its has directed the state ministry of works to invite Nigerian Society of Engineers, others for urgent remedial actions. The state government who said they're resolute in holding all agencies, contractors and partners accountable for works done in the state blamed blockage of culvert by heavy debris by nearby forest for the cause of the road failure. The statement read... "The Enugu State Government has reacted to the unfortunate culvert failure at drainage 3+120 along Neke/Mbu/Ogbodu-Abba/Obollo-Etiti road, a World Bank project executed under the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP II), revealing that preliminary reports point to a blockage of the culvert inlet by heavy debris comprising logs and other materials from a nearby forest as a result of unprecedented and intensive rainfall that caused flooding and erosion in the ravaged section. "A statement issued yesterday by the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, disclosed that the state government has consequently directed the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to urgently invite the Nigerian Society of Engineers to investigate and determine the remote causes of the damage and advise on necessary remedial measures to be carried out immediately. "Aroh disclosed that the state government had earlier set up a technical committee to assess, among other things, the structural quality and integrity of all RAMP II projects executed in Enugu State, adding that directive has also be given for “immediate installation of warning signs to alert motorists in advance of the closure of the portion of the road, and placement of diversion signs to alternative routes”. "The Information Commissioner therefore assured the general public of the state government’s commitment to the provision of standard infrastructure in Enugu State, as well as its resolve to hold all agencies, contractors and partners accountable for all works done in the state. Nigeria, Kenya violated int'l law by abducting Nnamdi Kanu — Albertia Minister of Justice Minister of Justice and Solicitor-General of government of Albertia, Kelechi (Kaycee) Madu has called for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Madu in a statement on Saturday said the government of Nigeria and Kenya broke major international law by abducting Kanu and moving him back to Nigeria. He said; “I urge the Nigerian government led by Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the safety of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. I urge his immediate release. “Reports suggest that Mazi Kanu was abducted in Kenya with the active collaboration of the Kenyan government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta. If true, Nigeria and Kenya violated international law and the rule of law that is supreme in their respective countries. “I call upon the international community, and in particular, @USin Nigeria, @UKinNigeria, @CanHCNigeria, @GERinNigeria, @lsraelin Nigeria and @EUinNigeria to use all their power, including diplomacy, to ensure the safety and release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. “I further call on the leaders of these nations to ensure real consequences for this arbitrary violations of internationally accepted democratic norms and rules that govern civilized people, but above all, the arbitrary violations of Mazi Kanu’s fundamental human rights. “Nigeria is burning, and the people of Nigeria, except those who are holding the country down wants out. You cannot destroy the hope and aspiration of a people destined for greatness, and expect them to bow down in servitude. “You cannot destroy a generation of people and expect them to not fight for their freedom. The power of the gun, state sponsored terrorism will not achieve peace, or the preservation of Nigeria. “The Igbos and other ethnic groups in Nigeria who are calling for Nigeria to be renegotiated do not seek violence or war. They seek peace. They seek progress and the advancement of their people. They seek fairness, safety, equity and justice for their people. “They seek the opportunity for their children to grow up and achieve their God-given abundant potential. They seek the rise of a people with the work ethic, intellect and capacity to be a truly global super power on the continent of Africa. They seek dignity over inhumane treatment. They seek life over death. “Friends of the black world must unite and liberate the people of Nigeria from this bondage and from the claws of corrupt and inept politicians who have no business being near the corridor of Nigeria’s political power. “The Attorney General of Nigeria, Abubakar Malami is a disgrace to the rule of law, and not worthy to be an officer of the court. He has shown himself to be a bigot who does not understand what it means to live in a pluralistic society governed by the dictates of the rule of law. “Finally, I must caution the present leaders of Nigeria to act in the best interests of the whole people of Nigeria. Since the inception of this government, and so far they have not been acting in all of Nigeria’s best interests”. Following the ongoing Constitutional Amendment review, balkanized communities in four states of Southeast and South-South has teamed up for creation of ENOA State. ENOA, is an acronym derived from the initial letters of the clans that make up the proposed State, that is, E - Etche; N- Ndoki; O - Omuma/Oyigbo and A - Asa. On Thursday, 27th May 2021 - the proposed ENOA State was presented live during the South-East Zonal Public Hearing of the Review of the 1999 Constitution held at Protea Hotel, Owerri, Imo State - chaired by Senate Committee. During the presentation done by the President General of Asa Development Union, ADU, who doubles as the Committee chairman, Dr. Onwubiko N. Dike - he made case for the creation of ENOA State. According to him, Etche, Omuma/Oyigbo, Ndoki and Asa - are People with same ancestral origin balkanized, into diverse subgroups of the States bounded within their neighbourhoods by draconian governmental policies. In 1978, Justice Mamman Nasir, National Boundary Commission ceded 17 Asa and Ndoki communities to Rivers State; Ohaobu and Akpala-Ndoki Communities were wrongly delineated and placed under Akwa Ibom State. Equally, many Asa communities were wrongly delineated and placed in Osisioma, Aba North, Aba South and Ugwunagbo Local Government Areas. Also, many Ndoki Communities were wrongly placed in Obingwa Local Government Area in Abia State. Outside from coming together as a block no longer dispersed and without voice, ENOA State, if created will unite the people, who are of one common ancestral and genealogical background. Speaking further during the presentation, Dr. Dike revealed that the local government councils who make up the proposed state has whatever it takes to become a state. He presented the map of the proposed which consist of fifteen (15) LGAs. Dr. Dike revealed that, likewise his presentation, committees in other regions involved in the proposed state has, also, done the presentation in their respective states during the constitutional review. "On Thursday, we did a presentation of proposed ENOA State and same thing was done in Rivers State," Dr. Onwubiko said. "Adding that about 50 copies of booklet which documented the proposed ENOA state and map has been sent to Abuja." Why ENOA State? ENOA State would be of immense benefit for the present generation of aforementioned clans that would make up the proposed state. As well as posterity, they will no longer be enslaved, swallowed and submerged by the teaming majorities who circumstantially have an overwhelming advantage over the minority communities. The creation will also adequately address obviously vexatious socio-cultural and political polarization of ENOA people. With 15 local government areas, the proposed state will address utter and gross marginalization of the people in socio- political positions vis-a-vis socio-political index for aggregate economic development and participation. While the above points are valid, the creation of the state will also attract development in ENOA areas with her huge potential resources in agriculture, oil and gas and other natural endowments. It will also alleviate unemployment among the youths of ENOA who can hardly access employment opportunities in the existing structures due to the massive marginalization experienced and to reduce poverty in the area. And creation of ENOA State will adequately address human resource development particularly youths empowerment. While the creation of ENOA State is a thing that should be looked into and realized, fact-check by this platform showed that the minorities has been deprived even the basic amenities from their host state government. Many communities in Asa, Abia State has no motorable roads. The communities are being littered with abandoned projects, erected by the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other abandoned projects by the state government. Checks by this platform proved most of the abandoned projects if completed will be a plus to the host communities. Also, in Rivers State, places like Oyigbo and Etche, they hardly experience the presence of the government. In fact, the government only remembers they exist during an election. Indeed, they are being treated like minorities both in politics and basic amenities which is due to them. Facts About Proposed ENOA State. Asa Development Union Protests NDDC Non-Execution and Abandonment of Projects in Ukwa West Asa Development Union (ADU) is protesting over what they described as an atrocious treatment of Ukwa West local government area of Abia State - by the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). ADU said - despite the fact that Ukwa West is the only oil producing area in the state - NDDC has over the years underdeveloped the area. Adding that NDDC's only achievement recorded in the area is non-execution of projects, abandonment and non-functionality of few executed projects. In a press statement signed by the President-General and Secretary-General of ADU, Dr. Onwubiko N. Dike and Dr. Ik Ajuzieogu - the group quoted a publication of NDDC published by ThisDay Newspaper which contained a total breakdown of the distribution of the Commission's Projects allocated to Abia State. In the publication, according to the ADU, Ukwa West (the only oil producing area) was allocated only two slot, while non oil producing areas were allocated higher. Reacting over the publication and years of negligence meted on the people of Ukwa West, ADU charged NDDC to do the needful by allocating more projects in the area and completing the abandoned projects in Ukwa West. "Based on this hugely disproportionate, vexatious and unpalatable picture of the allocated NDDC Projects to Ukwa West LGA as carried in the newspaper publication, Asa Development Union hereby vehemently wishes to call on NDDC to right the obvious wrong," part of the statement read. Read the full statement below; A PROTEST ON ATROCIOUS TREATMENT OF UKWA WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ABIA STATE BY THE MANAGEMENT OF NIGER DELTA DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION Asa people of the only oil and gas-producing Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State wish to express their deep-seated discomfort and sadness over the appalling activities/programmes of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the Local Government Area. It is terribly disquieting to state that by all intents and purposes there has been a persistent and utterly insensitive, vexatious and atrocious treatment of Ukwa West LGA in the allocation of NDDC projects in Abia State being characterized by non-execution, abandonment, poor execution and non-functionality of the few executed projects as can be seen in the unimpressive pictures of a few selected projects shown here. The latest act in this orchestrated malfeasance is unmistakably seen in the NDDC Publication: "Pre-Qualification/Invitation to Tender (ITT) for Goods and Works and Expression of Interest (EOI) for Consultancy Services for the Commission's 2020 Projects and Programmes" Which appeared on pages 43-50 of Thisday Newspaper edition of Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Pointedly, in the Category 2B: ITT for Works (pages 44 & 45 of the publication), of the 57 projects allocated to Abia State, only a paltry and insignificant two (2) projects were proposed for Ukwa West Local Government Area namely: 1. Project No. 29: Construction of Umuokpara, Obehie Internal Road, 2. Project No. 35: Construction of Umuodeke-Uzomkpuri Railway Road, Ukwa West. A breakdown of distribution of NDDC Projects allocated to Abia State as captured in the Category 2B: ITT for Works is shown as follows: 1. Ukwa West LGA (the only oil and gas-producing area of Abia State) - 2 2. Ukwa East LGA - 4 3. Aba North LGA - 2 4. Aba South LGA - 2 5. Isiala Ngwa North LGA - 2 6. Obingwa LGA - 7 7. Arochukwu LGA - 3 8. Bende LGA - 13 9. Ikwuano LGA - 5 10. Isuikwuato LGA - 4 11. Ohafia LGA - 4 12. Umuahia North LGA - 6 13. Umuahia South LGA - 3 From the foregoing, it is patently inconceivable why non-oil and gas-producing areas of Abia State should be allocated higher number of projects with high impact value whereas the only oil and gas-producing Ukwa West LGA (that suffers environmental hazards of oil and gas production activities of oil companies) is denied her legitimate allocation of NDDC projects in Abia State in contradistinction to the subsisting NDDC Intrastate Revenue Sharing Formula as shown hereunder: 60% Volume of Oil Production 20% Equality among LG As 10% Pipeline Communities 10% Oil Exploration Zones (producing or not) This is totally tendentious, reprehensible, repugnant and unconscionable as it derogates from the clear mandate of NDDC to cater for the peculiar developmental needs and aspirations of oil and gas-producing communities of Niger Delta Region which is Ukwa West LGA in the present circumstance. Our Prayers Based on this hugely disproportionate, vexatious and unpalatable picture of the allocated NDDC Projects to Ukwa West LGA as carried in the newspaper publication, Asa Development Union hereby vehemently wishes to call on NDDC to right the obvious wrong by: 1. carrying out a review of the published 'Pre-Qualification/ Invitation to Tender (ITT) for Goods and Works and Expression of Interest (EOI) for Consultancy Services for the Commission's 2020 Projects and Programmes' to allocate more projects that have economic value to Ukwa West LGA. 2. as a matter of paramount importance and urgency complete all abandoned NDDC projects (2001 till date) in Ukwa West LGA including: i. Asa Civic Centre/Multipurpose Hall, Obehie-Asa ii. 132KV High Voltage Line & 132/33KV Sub-station, Ikpokwu-Asa iii. Construction of District Hospital, Obokwe-Asa iv. Ukwa West LGA Regional Water Scheme linking Ozaa, Asa Group & Ipu v. Niger Delta Regional Technology Village/Industrial Park, Okeikpe-Asa vi. Mini-Sports Stadium, Okeikpe-Asa 3. as a matter of prime and urgent need root out a nestle of heartless political buccaneers and mercantilists in the inner recesses of NDDC vis-a-vis the devious implantation of Abia Directors from non-oil producing parts of the State in the NDDC top management positions who deploy dangerously manipulative political and repugnantly rapacious shenanigans to short-change Asa people of the only oil and gas-producing Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State. In addition to the above demands, Asa Development Union most passionately appeals to the Federal Government to establish Federal University of Science & Technology in Ukwa Land to empower our people to survive the developmental exigencies of the 21st century. By Prof. (Mrs) Chinyere Emenalo, Chairperson, Association of South Eastern Professors (ASEP) Aba Branch, Abia State. Let’s talk about hometown fabulists for a hot second. When you’re in a social setting and casually asked, “Where are you from?”, obviously the point isn’t to quickly hear the answer and get it out of the way. It’s to start a conversation that illuminates how your life experiences have shaped you, what values you stand for and how you represent the ethos of your hometown. Of course, in every party there is always the attention seeker, that one unpleasant fellow who would falsely lay claim to a great city, purely out of a groveling need to be validated by the fame of a city who values they do not represent. A claim to be “made in Aba” would be a claim to represent the ethos of a people who are integrous, enterprising, dogged, driven by the need to bring about change and ever resilient in their pursuit for improvement. To be made in Aba you’d have to earn it as it goes beyond fancy talk. Made in Aba is a brand that has over the years, been associated with men of integrity like John Udeagbala of J.U. Udeagbala Holding, Chief Anthony Enukene of Tonimas, and Mazi Clement Owunna of Starline, all great men who have left legacies and added value to the city, providing jobs and contributing to development. Made in Aba is a badge of honour that cannot be associated with pathetic hometown fabulists like Enyinnaya Abaribe. Let’s talk about Enyinnaya Abaribe for another hot second; a man who chose to malign Sen. Orji Kalu in the pages of his wrongly titled book, MADE IN ABA. The writer recalls that several years ago, Enyinnaya Abaribe, stranded at a Lagos motor park, was offered the position of deputy governor of Abia State on a platter of gold by Sen. Orji Kalu after he was given a free ride to Aba by the then aspiring gubernatorial candidate. As a running mate, Abaribe benefited from a free election campaign and fully paid election implementation that allowed him to occupy the second highest seat of Abia State. The revenue generation of any government is given to the most trusted ally to handle because in it lies the life blood of that government. In a leap of faith and a clear expression of trust, as Abia governor, Sen. Orji Kalu entrusted his deputy, Enyinnaya Abaribe, with overseeing the revenue generation efforts of the state. This was a clear departure from the norm of keeping deputy governors as ceremonial figureheads only. As the man in charge of the purse of the state, Enyinnaya Abaribe had a sacred duty, not just to Abia state as a whole, but especially to Aba. This is because Aba was the main revenue generating center of the state and also the city with the most government infrastructure and highest population of Abians to be serviced with the generated revenue. Alas, what did the Umuekwensu (children of the devil) son of Obingwa do with the yam belonging to Aba people, hung on his neck like the proverbial goat? He started eating it forgetting who it belonged to. Like a Judas, instead of focusing on the best strategies to achieve the task given to him, he devoted his energies to raising alternative receipt booklets for the internally generated revenue of the State (as testified by the Governor Orji Kalu himself in his tell-all book, “My Life”). For Enyinnaya Abaribe, the final destination of generated revenue was to his private pocket and not for the challenges Aba was facing at that time. Which is why it was a no-brainer that Enyinnaya Abaribe was infamously impeached for fraudulent activities. Till date all access he has to the common wealth of the people has ended up in his private account and he is yet to prove pages 214 and 215 of “My life“ by Orji Kalu wrong. People made in Aba do not steal from the commonwealth of Aba people. There is a distinction between made by Aba, made from Aba, made for Aba, made with Aba and made in Aba. Enyinnaya Abaribe is far from the last but could be better described by his own words on one occasion “I am made with Aba”. To this the writer fully agrees that there is no better description for his book than “MADE WITH ABA”. To be made with Aba means that the resources of Aba meant for Aba people were used up in the making of one man. This is the best description considering that few months before he was chosen to be deputy Governor, he was struggling to raise money to run for state house of assembly with nothing to show for all his eloquence as a lecturer. When you are made in Aba, you are Aba’s product because Aba will own you, enjoy your quality, defend you, promote you and market you to others outside Aba to embrace you as a proven quality product. But when you are made with Aba, it means you took from Aba; it means you denied Aba what belongs to them; it means you suppressed Aba to enrich yourself like the bourgeois in the ancient times against the commoners. There was mild drama in the Senate on Tuesday following comment by Senator Smart Adeyemi referring to Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as a “drunk.” Adeyemi, while contributing to a motion on “Safe School Initiative in Nigeria,” referred to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as a “champagne drinking man”. Best thing that happened to Abia North Senatorial Zone was electing Dr Orji Uzor Kalu to the Senate. No senator would have been able to accomplish what he has achieved in these few months despite the six months of incarceration. Thank God the Senate leadership did not listen to wailers who wanted his seat declared vacant. A seat many had occupied for longer period with next to nothing to show for it in the lives of our people. I am glad for boldly defending the Senate’s decision on the famous TVC interview, where I publicly told Nigerians that fair hearing was yet to be given to Dr Kalu and until he is heard at the Supreme Court, his right of appeal cannot be said to have been fully exhausted. This was when many were reluctant to speak up on this issue because they considered it sensitive. What was more sensitive to me was the needs of the zone which he had assured me he wanted to take care of having missed a few of them as a Governor owing to the fight with the President that was in charge then. Today Dr Orji Kalu is impressively living up those promises he made to me in private and to Abia North in the public. Those in doubt should draw up the comparative analysis between him and the previous ones in their 17 months in office. You will be shocked at how well he has represented the Senatorial zone. Ask around though we are very close and he raised me in politics but am one of his worst critics and would have told him if he was not accomplishing much as promised. Therefore, on behalf of Bende Federal constituency of Abia State who have mandated me during the last town hall meeting and have asked me to publicly commend him for a job so well done so far and to pledge my support for future accomplishments considering his marks all around the Bende federal constituency, I hereby officially commend the Senator representing Abia North senatorial zone, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu for changing the face of the zone within a short space of time in office despite initial challenges. Truth be told it is not about the position as a Senator but the web of contacts he has built over the years, his wealth of good wills and his desire to bring dividends of democracy to the people of Abia North. Instead of influencing the projects out of our zone on selfish grounds he is insisting the electorates must experience the dividends of democracy from the present Government of APC. He is doing well and we are following his foot steps. No wonder the APC as a party is the most beautiful bride in Abia State today. While we leave the big projects for him to handle we partner with him to cover the small ones. Because we are in it together; The beauty of synergy, political cohesion and dedication to one goal under loyalty. Thanks for setting a good example for those of us that you are leading. Abia North has not seen any thing yet, watch out for more in the coming years. We came to sincerely serve our deprived people, it is not about us it is about you the people. The people irrespective of political affiliation should encourage and support good governance, isn’t that what democracy preaches? I have been seen severally supporting any good works of the government of the state, where they score higher. Politics should not blindfold us away from truth and reality. Yes constructively criticise but to condemn where you ought to commend is not necessary. Does my political weight go down because I said well done to an opposition party who has scored a good point for the electorates? The answer is no. If actually, we are in politics for the people, it should not be about self. Often, others complain not because they are not seeing but because political blackmail is a strategic tool for them to attract a biased attention to their self centred needs over and above that of others. It is not effective once discovered, effective lobbying of the office holder is more strategic than blackmail and unfounded criticisms. There is still honour and truth in political governance remember as I have always said “we were first brothers before we became politicians and will still be family after politics“. Therefore, let’s not destroy what holds us together first as a people. There is no smartness in seeing the truth and politically or diplomatically speaking against it. See that Dr Orji Kalu is working and encourage him to do more for the zone rather than play to the gallery of pettiness against truth that stares in the face. Welcome to a brief summary of the catalog of some of his numerous interventions spread across the zone in the last 17 months (even while he was incarcerated he worked for Abia North); 1. Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, South Eastern Nigeria has an estimated population of 2,534,265 as at 2016. The commercial city known as Enyimba City (The Elephant City), is gradually turning into a forgotten city with zero government attention. Aba used to be the manufacturing capital of the Old Eastern Nigeria. In fact, it is still the SMEs capital of the current Nigeria. However, several years of lackadaisical leadership has thrown Aba into an economic coma, as administrative recklessness has brought about environmental and infrastructural decay. The once glorious economic powerhouse of Nigeria is gradually going into oblivion, abandoned by her supposed leaders who have made the city now looking like IDP camps. The Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu led administration in Abia state has tried to fix some decayed infrastructure, but the lack of seriousness and focus in the activities of the administration has made many believe that it is still business as usual. Few days ago, Ikpeazu shifted the blame of the road infrastructural decay in Abia, especially Aba to the Federal Government of Nigeria when he lamented the poor state of Federal roads in the state. Ikpeazu went on to appeal for immediate Federal Government intervention on the dilapidated Federal roads in the state. He said that the poor conditions of the Federal roads have led his administration to build alternative roads to other states to reduce the negative effects. Ikpeazu however expressed fear that despite his efforts, the state might be landlocked if nothing is done to salvage the situation of the Federal roads urgently. He revealed that his efforts on the Osisioma-Owerrinta Highway (Old Aba-Owerri road) suffered a setback recently when the state got a letter from the Federal Ministry of Works to discontinue with an ongoing construction. "We therefore appeal for immediate FGN intervention on these roads including Osisioma Owerrinta through the NNPC Depot in Osisioma where we have been stopped from continuing our work by the Federal Ministry of Works through a letter we received just yesterday," he said. Ikpeazu expressed his deep concern for business owners in Abia stressing that urgent interventions are needed on all the dilapidated Federal roads as they affecting the economy of the state as well as causing untold hardship on users and business owners in the state. "Given that our people have trade and commerce as their main source of livelihood, land locking Abia will amount to asphyxiation of our citizens. "Save for the alternative new road we did between Akwa-Ibom and Aba through Ekwereazu, the plight of our traders would have been unimaginable," he lamented. He noted that Abia as a State bordered by seven other States is replete with a number of federal roads cutting across the State into other States. However, almost all of such roads are in a state of total disrepair, causing untold hardship to road users from across the country. "I call for the urgent intervention of @NigeriaGov in revamping these roads which include: Aba-PH segment of Enugu-PH Highway, Aba-Ikot Ekpene & Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Roads linking Abia to Akwa-Ibom and Cross River States, and Umuahia-Ohafia-Arochukwu Rd among others." However, many Aba residents believe that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is not helping matters. They said that it is unfortunate that Ikpeazu, an Aba boy, an Ngwa man, and a true son of the soil is watching the great Enyimba city, the home of made in Nigeria wear becoming a laughing stock in the league of cities in Nigeria. So many questions are begging for answers on Aba: Can a city be called a commercial city without good roads? Does commerce thrive without good transportation system? And what is Ikpeazu doing about the so called state roads even if the Federal ones are bad? Ezeh Emeka, a commercial bus driver who said he has been in Aba for the past 30 years described the situation of the city as pathetic. In his words: "I don't like talking about things like this because before you know it some persons will start abusing you or threatening you. "But what can I do? I'm getting seriously old already and as an Igbo man you know our people believe that once you're getting old and keep speaking the truth, God will elongate your life span. "Aba that you see today is nothing compared to the proud Aba we all used to know. This city is gone. I did business here before I had problem and moved into bus driving. "As a bus driver, I've never had it so bad in Aba like what I've seen in the past ten years which is gradually getting worst. "A growing city should be developing new routes, new settlements for emerging population where vehicles should be plying and as well maintaining old ones. "But in this current Aba, many old transportation routes are now unpassable while no new ones are being created to ease movement of goods in the ever busy city." Emeka said that from the early 1990s down to 2005 and even as early as 2008, there were multiple routes vehicles can ply in Aba when conveying both visitors and residents to various business centres. According to him, it is regrettable that today, some of those routes are not only closed for vehicular movement, but totally dangerous for vehicles and even pedestrians. "Can a human being passed through the middle of Port Harcourt road, Ngwa road and Omuma road right now? If someone cannot see were to pass is it vehicles that will play such roads? Aba is gone my brother," he lamented. Dennis Nnajiofor, a business man at the Eziukwu Market described the situation of Aba roads as horrific. He lambasted Ikpeazu for speaking against Federal roads. He said, "What's the Governor talking about Federal roads? Why is cattle calling pot black? The Ekwereazu Akwa-Ibom road he said he constructed as alternative to Ikot-Ekpene Highway is already gone within just a year. "The Osisioma-Owerrinta Highway (Old Aba-Owerri road) he said that Federal Ministry Works stopped him from continuing with the project, my opinyis that he is not working according to Federal standard. "I remember that when they flagged off that road, they used a Chinese Company, but before you know it, the Chinese disappeared and everything is looking funny. So, before we claim Federal Government is disturbing us, we must ask the Government of Abia State if they're really doing the right thing on that road. "Go to Ebonyi State and Rivers State, they're working of Federal roads. So, why will Federal Government ask Abia not to work theirs," he said Nnajiofor said that most times when he visits other states and return to Aba, he feels bad. "I must tell you that what is still keeping Aba alive today is the inability of the neighbouring states to capture the secrets of what's happening here." Nnajiofor said that as a trader with so many years of experience, he is currently losing more in Aba nowadays than he is gaining, as the city is not expanding commercial wise, but rather shrinking on daily basis. He said that Aba is only expanding by the number of new buildings which are constructed by bringing down old existing structure and not moving into virgin areas to build. "There are five local government areas in Aba: Aba North, Aba South, Osisioma, Ugwunagbo and Obingwa LGA. Now, tell me, out of all these LGAs how many motorable routes do we have? "The four major roads in Osisioma LGA are: Ekeakpara road, Aba-Owerri road, ABSUTH/Udeagbala road and of course the Aba-Port Harcourt Highway are all in deplorable conditions. "If you come to Aba South; almost all the major roads there are gone and taken over by water frogs. Ngwa road, Obohia road, Ohanku road, Port Harcourt road and Eziukwu road that's under construction are all dead. "These roads connect buyers to three major important business hubs like Ahia-Ohuru, Cemetery Market and Alaoji spare parts market have become swamps. "In Aba North, Osusu road, Omuma road, Old-Express road and other adjoining room so like Nwamkpa, Saint Eugene road, Adindu road, Power Line and Cemetery road are death traps. "Ugwunagbo is in a hopeless situation and when you talk about Obingwa you look at the Aba-Ikot Ekpene road and Ururuka road. Although there are still other terrible roads, but what I gave you are the major ones. "Even Faulks road that this current administration finished working on not up to two years now is dead and gone. So, what makes Aba a commercial city? Nnajiofor said that insecurity is one of the reasons why Aba is not growing, adding that security agencies cannot penetrate through some terrible areas. This situation he said has residents at the mercy of hoodlums who are aware that no help will come the way of the residents whenever they attack them. "Have you not noticed that some people prefer to spend huge money to buy old buildings in the metropolis and rebuild than going into some of these area where lands are cheap to develop them? "How can you go there when your property is not safe neither are you too safe? A place like Ugwunagbo and Obingwa should have benefited from Aba main town just like Idemili North LGA, Oyi LGA and Anambra East LGA have benefited from Onitsha main town. "If you go to Nkpor, Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Ogidi, Nsugbe and even some parts of Obosi you will not differentiate between them and Onitsha. Good roads bring development. "In Imo State, Owerri main town has swallowed parts of Mbaitoli and Ikeduru. You can hardly know the difference, but in Abia everything is just stagnant. "The only thing that's still keeping Aba alive is its strategic location which nobody can take away. A city that lies in between Rivers State, Akwa-Ibom State and Imo State is strategically located to have visitors no matter what anyone does wrong or right." He added that the inability of neighbouring states like Akwa-Ibom, Rivers, Enugu and Imo State to take advantage of poor governance in Abia is helping to keep Aba remain alive. Former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has backed the call for president of Igbo extraction in 2023. FFK as fondly called, said doing that would help make up for the wrongs meted to Igbo in the past. Fani-Kayode restated his position while responding to questions from newsmen at the premises of Anambra State Governor’s Lodge in Onitsha when he returned from a tour of some project sites with Governor Willie Obiano. “I know that where I come from, there is a very large body of opinion now that is pushing for that. Ayo Adebanjo, who is the deputy leader of Afenifere, who speaks for us, made that position clear that as far as he he is concerned, the next president should come from the South East. And he spoke for us,” Fan-Kayode said. The former minister, who insisted that the Igbo deserve a shot at the presidency, however, urged the leaders and people of the South East to work hard for it. Nigerians are currently protesting at the United States Embassy in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja over the incessant killings in Southern Kaduna. The protest came on the hills of the recent killings in Southern Kaduna as suspected Fulani militiamen had last week Friday, unleashed fresh attacks on Apiashyim, Kibori, Atakmawei, Apyiako, and Magamiya villages in the area. Reacting over the killings, protesters took to the streets of Kaduna, Lagos and Abuja on Saturday morning to protest over what they described as “genocide” taking place in the southern part of Kaduna State and the government’s inability to stop the killings. A lot of couples currently have fertility problems & a large part of that is sperm-related. Sperm counts have been declining steadily over the past 50 years. Men, avoid the below factors listed & boost your sperm count, motility, viability & overall fertility. 1). Tight underwears 2). Hot baths 3). Infections 4). Varicoceles 5). Laptops 6). Drugs 7). Mobile phones . Smoking9). Marijuana 10). Steroids 10 common ways men damage their sperm without knowing 1). Wear Boxers Instead of Tight Pants Wear boxers instead of tight pants, & go to bed naked if you want to become a father. Wearing tight #underwears like pants or shorts keep your testicles closer to the body, leading to warmer temperatures that may kill sperm & lower sperm count. 2). Bathing With Hotwater. Bathing with #hotwater frequently exposes your testicles to heat, which reduces your sperm count. Same thing happens to men who use saunas often. In fact, if you're worried about infertility, it's best to bath with cold water. Avoid hot water baths! 3). Infections. Some #Infections can block sperm production or passage, due to scaring. Infections of the testicles (e.g. mumps orchitis), sperm tube (epididymitis) & STI's like HIV & gonorrhea can do this. Subsequent permanent damage to the testis may occur, leading to low infertility. 4). Varicoceles READ MORE: https://abacityblog.com/low-sperm-count-10-ways-men-damage-their-sperm-without-knowing/

“Some World Powers Have Refused To Even Sell To Us Certain Vital Weapons”- Lai Mohammed The Federal Government has appealed to the world powers not to be weighed by unsubstantiated arguments to deny the country vital platforms and weapons to fight insecurity. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made the appeal on Thursday when he featured on the News Agency of Nigeria Forum in Abuja. The minister buttresses the claim, saying “certain world powers have refused to even sell to us certain vital weapons.” Some people are of the opinion that the fight against insurgency is obviously compromised between some elements in government and security agencies. The FG needs to man up and deal with this menace decisively and stop giving excuses every now and then. That’s not what we need right now. American Zoo Apologizes For Putting A Congolese, Ota Benga On Display At Their Zoo In 1906 After 114 Years Bronx zoo has apologized for putting a Congolese, Ota Benga on display at their zoo in 1906 after 114 years. He was kidnapped from Congo and brought to New York, where he was exhibited in a monkey cage before hundreds of people at the Bronx Zoo, New York in September 1906. When I saw the documentary about this man, I lost complete respect for some white people. There's nothing honorable and respectful about their history. Especially on how they built their wealth. None at all. But the mere fact that this was based on his skin color is bizarre and that the whole world today still depends on this racist system to keep their wealth growing. Obasanjo Urges African Youths To Dislodge Older Generation From Leadership Positions A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has asked African youths to dislodge the older generation from leadership positions. Obasanjo said this on Wednesday while delivering a keynote address at an interactive session held virtually to mark this year’s International Youth Day. I think Obasanjo can help the youths by supporting them with his resources, moreover the foundation needs one of the builders to tell the youths where it is faulty before they can do something about it. Obasanjo's points here are true but the problem here is our police and military because these are the people they use to manipulate us, even in election time. Until when those people start realizing the better days in their future. None of the police and army is living a standard life. Senator Kalu replies Akpabio, says NDDC has not paid contractors of roads he facilitated Chief Whip of the Senate and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Monday said the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has not paid any dime to the contractors who built the roads he facilitated. Kalu was reacting to the communique written by Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, where he reportedly mentioned ex governors Emmanuel Uduaghan, James Ibori , Senator Ifeanyi Ararume , Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and others to the several contracts allotted by the NDDC In a statement signed by Barrister Emeka Nwala of office of the Senate Chief Whip and made available to the media, Kalu said he believes the issues at stake in the NDDC has to do with missing funds and not works done , adding that he is becoming worried over his name being used indiscriminately to sell newspapers without verifications. According to the Chief Whip , the road projects mentioned by the Honourable Minister are the interventions he facilitated for the communities as a private citizen before he became a Senator. Kalu revealed his name is mentioned because he used his letter headed paper to write a sympathetic letter to the NDDC in 2016 requesting and pleading with the body to rescue roads in Abia. He also noted his relationship with Senator Akpabio dates years back and long before he (Kalu) became a govenor , adding that he would still request for more road interventions from Akpabio His words, ” I was Governor of Abia State between 1999-2007 and never held any public office until June 11, 2019 when I was sworn in as a Senator. Between 2016- 2018 during my tour to several communities; leaders and welfare unions of most communities pleaded for urgent intervention on some dilapidated roads . I wrote to the NDDC informing the body of the conditions of these roads and the need for their attention since Abia is an NDDC state . The NDDC in their consideration which I am very grateful to, awarded the roads to companies that duly tendered for the projects and not myself. Whatever link I have with the projects is because it was considered due to my intervention” He said The Senate Chief Whip also noted that the NDDC that awarded these projects were not any of the interim management in controversy but the fully constituted body of NDDC with its board. Clarifying further, he said “the roads I requested for intervention as mentioned by the Honourable Minister were repairs of Ezere-Acha-Ndiokoukwu Road ;Amaubiri-Eluama-Uru Ring Road, Lokpaukwu, Umuchieze ; Ndi Oji Abam-Atan Road ; the Okafia-Ozuitem-Bende road and Ozu-Amuru-Abam Road . "The contractors have completed and delivered these roads long time ago except Abam-Atani road which I learnt from the contractors was slowed down due to rain but still ongoing. "Meanwhile, it would interest Nigerians to know that the contractors who built these roads have not been paid any dime . It has not been easy with the contractors but because it's a community project they have only but kept hope alive on the NDDC. Further speaking, he said " I am so much concerned about roads because I understand the economic importance of good roads , that's why I built several roads when I was Governor. Even as a Senator, it would interest you to know that my major constituency projects are road constructions, reconstructions and rehabilitations . We have put in plans to finish 19 roads in Abia North before end of 2021. "As a community leader, I do not intend to stop my interventions on roads in NDDC states because all the states need good roads. Good roads help to drive the economy. Therefore, I believe the NDDC forensic audit should focus on the missing funds and not works done . They should focus on paying contractors that delivered their jobs and not using my name indiscriminately to sell newspapers. The Honourable Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio is my good old friend. We have been friends even before I became a governor. I hope he doesn't expect me to stop seeking for road interventions in our communities . It is his civic responsibility to support the communities and I am very confident he will oblige our future requests especially in areas of good roads." Kalu said Source; https://abacityblog.com/senator-kalu-replies-akpabio-says-nddc-has-not-paid-contractors-of-roads-he-facilitates/

Father Ejike Mbaka, the co-ordinator of Adoration Ministries in Enugu State, has said that some former Nigerian prisoners, such as the Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, have been successful. Father Mbaka said this as he resumed his Adoration Prayer on Wednesday, 29th of July, which he stopped over the coronavirus pandemic. This date coincides with the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a priest. Speaking further, Mbaka said that many Nigerian prisoners had done well and some of them had become kings. He revealed that Orji Uzor Kalu had sent him a message of thanks as he celebrated his 25 years anniversary in priesthood. Adding that Kalu’s imprisonment was a blessing in disguise. “Mbaka used former Nigerian presidents such as Olusegun Obasanjo, incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari and the biblical Joseph as examples, and concluded that imprisonment was one way to make a king. 2023: "Nigeria Needs You in AsoRock", Catholic Priest Chants as Orji Kalu Arrives Umuahia *By Timmy Johnson Chinedu* I wasn’t privileged to make a post on The Triumphal Entry Into Abia State of His Excellency Sen. (Dr) Orji Uzor Kalu (MON) because I was very busy as I participated in the organizing of the great reception. There is Something remarkable I have observed about the Person of Sen Orji Uzor Kalu (MON): “He Commands General Acceptability”. Hate Him or Love Him, You Must Feel The Impact of His Overwhelming Splendor When He’s Out. In 2003, I was in Mbiama, A Riverine Community in the border of present day Rivers State and Bayelsa State, I can’t remember vividly what was happening but I think the then Nigeria president Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo was on a visit to Bayelsa State in company of too many PDP Governors. Every one winded up in tinted glass security surrounded vehicles and was driving on high speed in fear of possible attack of the dreaded militants that had control of the south south region then, especially the East West Road. Even the Presidential Convoy was heavily equipped and drove on high speed, but when His Excellency Sen Dr Orji Uzor Kalu MON, the then Executive Governor of Abia State stepped into Mbiama community, he stepped out of the car, marched on the street and was greeting people amidst loud cheers and thunderous ovation. The Joy of Igbos in the community had no limit. He was meeting the downtrodden, buying things like akara, corn and biscuit and was sharing with the poor. I remembered a particular small boy of about four to six years old ran to him and he lifted him in his usually traditional white attire. He didn’t mind been stained. His action then attracted his colleagues! But he stole the show, as it still seems like he’s the only one on the road. An Aba boy like me who knows him well from his house in Umuisi Igbere, In the same State constituency with me, Federal Constituency and Senatorial Zone, who also knows his house in Aba. I told a lot of brave stories about him: the Action Governor, I was surrounded and made a celebrity with even the Community Chiefs listening attentively to my sweet stories of his influence in infrastructure, sports, business and social life. In fact, I started commanding respect in the area. That was how I had my first babe! A story for another day. Yesterday, I saw exactly a similar thing! From his arrival at the airport, the Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri shocked to it’s foundation. I’ve never seen a sight more Glorious! It was like a crusade ground. Even big men were running like kids just to behold his sight, including those who use to eat with him before. I saw security operatives attached to politicians who came to welcome him leave their bosses and ran ahead! It was only God’s glory that made it possible for people not be stampeded. Outside the airport, along Mbaise, Obowo, Onuimo, Tower and Okpara Square, Crowd was uncontrollable! Traditional gun salute was used to greet him by community leaders of every village we passed. I saw genuine joy and celebration. Umuahia was practically shutdown in dreaded hold up for hours. OUK was greeted by cheers and jubilation by men, women and children from all works of life. South East Legislatures: National Assembly and State House of Assemblies where with him. I have never seen a longer presidential convoy. Indeed Sen Dr Orji Uzor Kalu MON is a Presidential Material. Keke and bike operators drove all way from the airport to Igbere! Calculate the distance. The show of love was in excess. Vehicles that broke down were been helped by strangers just because of the Love of OUK. It was so emotional. Shout of freedom songs and cheers of the “Hope Alive” popular slogan ranted the air. His Excellency Sen Dr Orji Uzor Kalu MON is indeed the Hope of Igbo Presidency. Freedom for OUK is Freedom for Ndigbo and Indeed Freedom of A Detribalized Nigeria. A police inspector identified as Inspector John on Wednesday escaped lynching at premises of the Christ the King Cathedral (CKC), Aba, Abia State where he went to arrest a lady. The inspector attached to the Ndiegoro Police Division aka Cameroon Barracks whom many eyewitnesses accused of been notorious was given the beating of his life by angry worshippers who saw his method of policing as unacceptable. Sources said that John came into the church premises on mufti with gun in the company of a woman whom he brought to identify a certain suspect within the church premises for arrest. By the time our reporter visited the CKC, the crowd outside the gates had already turned into a Mob agitating that John be given to them to deal with mercilessly. Former Attorney General of Abia State, Chief Umeh Kalu, has revealed how the long feud between the erstwhile former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and his successor, T. A Orji started. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who spoke on the politics of his home state, said good governance in Nigeria is hampered by sycophancy and eye-service by political appointees. According to Chief Umeh, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who is now the Chief Whip of the Senate, is the patriarch of modern Abia politics, as well as the undercurrents of succession in 2023 in the state. Speaking in an interview, Chief Umeh, narrated how the war between the two former governors started. He said... "Orji Uzor Kalu is patriarch of modern Abia politics. They were all in PDP which Orji Uzor Kalu was and they had issues. That led to the formation of PPA. In PPA, Orji needed a successor and that was what brought about T. A Orji, his Chief of Staff. And then, PDP was divided. You had the Onyema Ugochukwu camp and the Orji Uzor Kalu camp. Those in Orji camp were in PPA. People in Ugochukwu’s were Senator Nkechi Nwogu, Col Akobundu and a whole lot of them. "It was a long battle and the election came up and I’m sure you know the issue of the incarceration of T. A Orji and some other people who were with Orji Uzor Kalu and all that. T. A Orji was in prison when the election was conducted, it was Orji Uzor Kalu that was all over the place campaigning for him and eventually, he won. He started a government under PPA. It was at this point that I joined them. I wasn’t part of them. I joined the Orji Uzor Kalu camp as a lawyer. It was he (Orji Kalu) that engaged me to defend T. A Orji when EFCC invited him in Lagos. "I was the lawyer who had that brief. I was the one who took him to EFCC and they were about eight of them. Later, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) joined me, he led me in the matter. Later, Olisa Agbakoba came into the matter when we were at the Federal High Court. The person who handled the matter finally was Prof Osipitan. He led me into getting T. A Orji out of prison. In all these, it was Orji Uzor Kalu who briefed us. He was the one who picked the bills. Two years after, I was made the A-G in 2009. President of the group, Olorogun Ese Kakor said, the decision to execute their earlier threat was as a result of the expiration of the ultimatum handed down to the Federal Government. Olorogun Kakor added that the Federal Government failed to meet up with their demands before the ultimatum expired last Monday, July 20, 2020. The group had earlier handed down a 14 days ultimatum to shutdown oil and gas operations in their area if the Federal Government fails to initiate fresh process of ceding out the 57 marginal oil field and address issues of gross marginalization of oil multinationals a the federal government against the Urhobo people. It said, their call for fresh ceding process of the 57 Marginal Oil Field was necessitated by illegal moves by the Minister for State for Petroleum Resources, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Director General of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), to exclude Urhobo people from the process.
