PoliticsVIDEO: Imo APC Assembly Aspirant Crashes Out After Losing Ticket To Female Candi by SaviMedia(op): 3:24pm On May 27
Imo APC Assembly Aspirant Crashes Out After Losing Ticket To Female Candidate

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and an aspirant for the Imo State House of Assembly seat representing Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency has reportedly reacted angrily after the party handed the ticket to another candidate ahead of the forthcoming election.

In a video obtained by AbaCityBloq, the visibly upset aspirant was seen expressing frustration over what he described as an unfair disqualification process by the party leadership.

Although the identity of the aspirant has not been revealed, the man accused the party of sidelining him and other hopefuls despite the huge amount of money they allegedly spent during the screening and nomination process.

According to him, the APC leadership ignored aspirants who actively campaigned and worked for the ticket, only to hand it over to another candidate whom he claimed did not contest for the State Assembly position from the beginning.

Displaying documents believed to be nomination forms in the video, the aspirant alleged that he spent over N10 million in the course of pursuing the ticket.

“Here is the form I purchased. I bought this one for N7 million, this one for N1 million, plus other money the party extorted from me at the party secretariat in Owerri,” he said.

The aggrieved aspirant further claimed that several other contenders were also disqualified after spending heavily on forms and other party-related expenses.

AbaCityBloq gathered that the APC ticket for Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency was eventually awarded to Hon. Doris Anyanwu, who is now the party’s flag bearer for the constituency in the coming election.

Politics“we Were Abandoned — Abia Youths Cry Out To Gov Otti After Agro Training In Osun by SaviMedia(op): 5:03pm On May 17
A good number of Abia State youths, selected from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state to participate in a joint federal and state government agricultural programme and empowerment in Osun State, are begging Governor Alex Otti to come to their aid.

The youths who said that they participated in a three-week agro-based certified programme called “National Youths In Agricultural Training Programme For Unemployed Youths From The South East Geopolitical Zone” lamented that the assurance given to them initially that they will be supported by the state to start something for production and commercialisation is now looking like a mirage.

The team stakeholders, Ogbonnaya Peter, team secretary, Orji ijeoma, woman coordinator and Ojimgba Favour, men coordinator, speaking unanimously said that the group had to resort to the media because since the event began in November 2024 and ended barely three weeks within the above date, officials of both the Abia State Ministry of Sports and Youths and the agriculture counterpart have made their lives tough and rough with unfulfilled promises.

They said that the whole frustrated youth in the group of agricultural trainees are so sure that nobody has told Governor Alex Otti about their situation, stressing that all efforts to reach the governor have proved abortive, as the heads of the ministries may have failed to inform him what his citizens are passing through.

The team reiterated total abandonment by some government officials authorised by the state government to take care of their welfare and said that since their return from the Osun programme, they were asked to submit the details but have heard nothing from these government officials.

“Since we came back, we have been abandoned like orphans. The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Ananana Nwaobilor, and also the Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr Cliff Agbaeze, are also aware.

“All these people endorsed our movement, and we were told that the state government had released funds, and up till now, nothing has been done. Some groups that went to Nassarawa have gotten every necessary support.

“The programme covers all 17 LGAs of Abia, and we went for it in November 2023. The programme was an FG one but would be taken care of by the state.

“After the training, we came back, and the commissioner for agriculture asked us to write a proposal. We wrote and sent it to him. The same instructions came from the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, and we equally did the needful, but none of them have called us.”

They said that the frustrated team that went to Osun are not mentioning names of these officials a mark of accusation or any form of embarrassment, but just to to prove that they know what they are saying and are not faceless group that came out from nowhere.

The team said that the most annoying part of the whole process is that when Governor Otti launched an agro programme, they were told they would be absorbed into that governor’s programme, but it later became a fake promise meant to prolong their sorrow.

“There was one agricultural programme Governor Otti set up; they assured us that they’ll incorporate us into that programme because of our experience.

“We were actually issued with a certificate after the programme. The HOD on Youths and Sports asked that we submit our names and details, which we did. The Commissioner for Agriculture requested the same details, which we equally did send to him, but since then, they all went cold.”

The team said that they are already suspecting that their names may have been replaced with some people who did not participate in the programme, stressing that they know Governor Alex Otti as a man who cannot go against Abia youths, except if such information were conspicuously hidden from his attention.

“We’re raising this alarm because we believe Governor Alex Otti is not aware of what truly happened and has released funds for us which we believe may have been diverted for something else or to some people who have no business getting it.

“Our worry now is that it’s the same state government that implemented the Nassarawa programme that sponsored us. Why abandon us like we’re not humans” the team lamented.

PoliticsSenator Kalu Withdraws Support For Governor Otti, Vow To Deliver Abia To APC by SaviMedia(op): 10:11am On Jan 09
Senator Kalu withdraws support for Governor Otti, vow to deliver Abia to APC in 2027

Former governor of Abia State and incumbent lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District in the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has reiterated that the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, would win massively in Abia State come 2027 election.

Senator Kalu made the statement while addressing group of journalists at his country home in Igbere, on Thursday after the distribution of food items to his constituents and members of his party across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Recall that Gov. Otti few days ago, while reacting to Senator Kalu’s statement that he will work for his party, the APC in 2027, while asking the Abia North Senator to produce the 2023 INEC certified result for Abia North, vowed to stop Senator Kalu from returning to the senate.

Reacting to the statement, Senator Kalu challenge Gov. Otti and members of his party to electoral contest, saying that the APC were going to record huge success in the 2027 general elections against the prediction of the state governor.

Senator Kalu who claimed to have helped Otti to secure his 2023 governorship election in 2023, questioned why the governor of the state and his media team would be angered with his decision to work for his party; APC in 2027 general elections said “You know that I have not for once said anything about the state government."

“I consider the governor as my friend and for two years I have never criticised the governor.

“No governor can deny that he isn’t aware of whatever that his Chief Press Secretary writes.

“Three days ago they shot the first arrow because I said that I will work for the APC to win.

“In 2023, we worked for him to win and we are not going to do that again; We will work for our party to win. What is wrong with that? Is that why I should receive insults? That is not acceptable to me and I am going to work for my party.

“I worked for him (Otti). Even my brother who was running for governor in APP (All Peoples Party), I called him to cooperate with him (Otti) because we are going to support him and that is the truth.”

Assessing Otti’s government in the past two years, Senator Kalu said “If he has done better, I don’t know about that because the money that I received in eight years is what Alex Otti receives in four months.

“He is just repainting and rebuilding the roads that I built as a governor between 1999 and 2007.

“I have not seen any new major road that he has done.

“I am in the Senate. All the roads that I am doing now are new farm roads. I have not seen him go into farm road.

“By two years time, I have done what people believed in this state which made then President Olusegun Obasanjo named me “Action Governor “.

“Under my watch in Abia, education was free, healthcare services was free. The truth is that, I have not seen what they have done.

“I know that he has tried rebuilding the road that I did; Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Ohafia road, which has stayed for so long (two years) before completion. I don’t know what they have done and why the noise in the social media. This business is not done on social media, it is done on the right time.

“My support for him is gone. It’s for the APC now.”

PoliticsHow Governor Otti Is Ending Revenue Leakages In Abia State - Pastra Arinze Etie by SaviMedia(op): 6:54am On Nov 24, 2025
Dr. Pastra Arinze Etie, Group Managing Director of BemsSoft and Abia State’s SuperAgent for Revenue Collection, commended Governor Alex Otti for his efforts to eliminate decades of revenue leakages.

He praised Otti for dismantling revenue scavengers, integrating a comprehensive revenue optimization technology, and revolutionizing revenue collection across the state.

During a working visit to the Patent Medicine Dealers Association in Umuahia North, Dr. Etie informed business owners about Abia’s new, transparent, and fully automated revenue framework.

He stated that Governor Otti’s leadership has demonstrated that the state’s prolonged underdevelopment was primarily due to poor leadership.

“Historically, in the era of “sold” manual revenue collection, out of 100% of revenue collected, only about 20% made it to the coffers of the Abia State Government, while the rest was siphoned off into private pockets. However, Governor Otti's Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) is putting an end to this with technology,” said Dr. Etie.

He explained that the Otti administration is working towards a fully automated revenue collection process, eliminating human scavengers, cash handling, and harassment by task forces.

With the new digital system, all payments are made exclusively online using digital methods, such as credit cards, USSD, and instant transfers. This provides instant notifications and E-receipts for every transaction, which can be easily tracked.

“The system tracks every transaction from start to finish. It monitors when a demand notice is issued, when a trader is serviced, and when payment is completed. This level of technological advancement is what the governor is introducing for revenue management in Abia State,” Dr. Etie added.

Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu, 2023 Abia governorship candidate for All Progressive Party, APP, has declared interest to contest the position in 2027.

Kalu who recently joined the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, after leaving APP, made the declaration during a welcome event organized at his political office in Umuahia on Saturday, October 25th, 2027.

Kalu promised inclusive and transparent government, noting that his interest to join the contest is to unify Abians and offer a transparent governance where local government will receive their allocation and work with it.

Below is his full declaration speech:

My Good People of Abia State,
I stand before you today with humility, conviction, and a renewed sense of hope and confirm that the future is bright.
I was one of the frontline candidates in the 2023 Governor’s election.

As a Democrat, I did not hesitate to congratulate the incumbent, Governor Alex Otti, when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner. Although irregularities marred the elections, the outcome represented the change the people had been asking for. For that reason, I did not challenge the election outcome in court.

I have given the administration room to govern without criticism for over two years. I acknowledge that some progress has been made under the administration. However, the progress remains far from the lofty campaign promises made to Abians during the 2023 electioneering period.

Politics₦54 Billion Education Funds Controversy, FENRAD Berates Abia State Assembly For by SaviMedia(op): 1:55pm On Sep 03, 2025
₦54 Billion Education Funds Controversy, FENRAD Berates Abia State Assembly for Oversight Failure

The Foundation for Environmental Rights Advocacy & Development (FENRAD Nigeria), a leading human and environmental rights advocacy organization, is deeply disturbed by the growing controversy surrounding the ₦54 billion reportedly allocated to the education sector in Abia State, with no Little intervention by the Abia state House of Assembly

FENRAD condemns in strong terms the silence and inaction of the Abia State House of Assembly, particularly its Committees on Public Accounts, Appropriation, and Education, whose constitutional role includes oversight of government expenditure and budget implementation. The lack of inquiry or formal investigation into this matter amounts to a dereliction of legislative duty.

“A budget is not a mere ritual; it is a contract between government and the people,” said Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, Executive Director of FENRAD Nigeria. “The legislature's silence on this alleged misuse or misappropriation of education funds is not only disappointing but dangerous for the democratic process.”

FENRAD notes that 2024 Budget Performance Report failed to account for measurable improvements in infrastructure, teaching capacity, or student outcomes.

FENRAD’s Demands and Recommendations:

1. Immediate invitation and public questioning of the following key officials by the Abia State House of Assembly:

Commissioner for Education

Commissioner for Finance

Director-General of the Abia State Budget Office

These officials must provide clarity on:

The disbursement and utilization of the ₦54 billion allocation.

Budget performance indicators and outcome metrics.

Procurement processes and executed projects.

2. A comprehensive and independent audit of all education sector spending in Abia State from 2023 to 2025, to be conducted by the State Auditor-General in collaboration with civil society observers.

3. Public release of the 2024 Education Budget Performance Report and project execution records, in line with the principles of transparency and fiscal openness.

4. Activation of the Abia State Freedom of Information (FOI) mechanism to allow citizens and watchdog groups access to relevant data regarding the alleged fund mismanagement.

FENRAD’s Position:

The education of Abia’s children should never be a casualty of mismanagement, poor oversight, or political collusion. If ₦54 billion was indeed allocated, the people of Abia have a right to see the results—in classrooms, school roofs, teacher training, textbooks, and digital learning infrastructure.

We call on Governor Alex Otti to demonstrate transparency and accountability by ordering an internal review of the Ministry of Education’s financial records.

In what can only be described as a landmark moment for Nigerian secondary school education, St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, Anambra State, has emerged grand champion of the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Competition, triumphing over both local and British contenders in an intellectually charged contest that captivated audiences across two nations.

The groundbreaking competition, jointly organized by Bring It On Africa and Debate Mate UK, was designed to foster cross-cultural dialogue and sharpen the critical thinking, oratory, and reasoning skills of students from both countries. Held virtually on June 19, 2025, the event saw spirited participation from top-ranking schools on both sides of the Atlantic.

Representing Nigeria were four elite institutions: Britarch Schools, Abuja; Sure Start School, Abuja; St. Augustine’s College, Jos; and St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu. Flying the flag for the United Kingdom were distinguished schools such as Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School.

After intense preliminary rounds that tested their logical acuity, public speaking finesse, and rebuttal prowess, St. John Vianney Science College broke straight to the finals. The team confidently out-argued the British contenders—defeating Maghull High School and Central Foundation Girls’ School—before advancing to an all-Nigerian final against St. Augustine’s College, Jos.

In a highly competitive showdown that held viewers in suspense, St. John Vianney Science College secured a decisive victory in the finals, earning the prestigious title of Inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Champions. With this triumph came the honour of representing Nigeria at the extensional debate rounds scheduled for December 2025 in London, United Kingdom.

The school was represented by Chibueze Jennifer, Obiokafor Catherine, Eneoli Benjamin, and Onwuegbusi Valentine, mentored by their coach, John Onuigbo, with valuable support from Chiagozie Udorji. Speaking shortly after the victory, Chibueze Jennifer, one of the standout performers, expressed her excitement and gratitude: “This is a dream come true for all of us. The level of competition was extremely high, especially going against top schools from the UK. But we believed in our preparation, trusted each other, and gave it our best. Winning this title has shown us that Nigerian students can stand toe-to-toe with anyone in the world when given the platform.”

The next thing, one of the vigilante men descended on him and started beating him up mercilessly.

"Before anybody could say let him be, the next thing we saw was he pushed the man and he fell and hit his head on the ground and collapsed. That was when the vigilante people escaped and the young man with some of us around had to take the man to a private hospital around Obohia Road."

A daughter of the victim, Cynthia Ekwuluo lamented the maltreatment her father suffered at the hands of the security, stressing that such should not go unpunished as her father did nothing wrong to warrant such treatment.

"The Aba vigilante at Market Road by Tenant Road sent my father to a sick bed. My dad is unconscious at Victory Hospital Obohia Road right now. I need justice for my father.

"The only crime my father committed was to stop the security man from intimidating his co-worker. The vigilante guy pushed my father he failed down and hit his head on the road. I need justice for my father. He can't even recognise me since yesterday," she said.
