Business / Re: Midas shipping & freight, My Experience, Story And Lost of item with them by sbola(f): 1:14pm On Apr 16, 2018

This maybe a bit long but apologies.

As much as one may tend to listen to the accuser here I believe no one should reach a judgement till maybe all facts have been layed bare.

Anyone who has worked customer service would know it can be an horrifying and soul crushing line to work in. It gets to a point you get desensitized to customer complaints.

However, i have used Midas for 5 years now and I have introduced nothing less than 3 people. Till date I have had items ranging from a gear box to the smallest camera cover shipped using them. In those 5 years, not once have I ever had an item stolen from my pack. Just last week I had an item that was poked and I wasn't present to pick it but just instructed them to help confirm and I got all the items exactly the way it was bought and these weren't cheap if you think I was lucky. Total sum was in a few hundreds of thousands of naira.

The only complaint I have against them is the length of time it takes to get them to ship and I honestly can't blame them too much. For the fees they charge, they seem to be punching above their weight. I sometimes wonder how they have stayed afloat. If you want faster services, the fees are just cut throat and unreasonable.

This is not to launder their image or whatever but I would advise the op to try and do a thorough job. You cannot believe the word of your seller alone. You might want to give the seller the benefit of doubt but you may want to press them a bit and you might be surprised the issue MIGHT be from them although the delivery note seems to have absolved them but getting to the root should be your sole aim not laying accusations before reaching conclusions. Infact just Google online and see thousands of stories about postmen stealing items. maybe you need to rethink it why postal fraud is a federal offence in the US. It is because it happens. Also, I think for any item you are sending, your seller pays an insurance for It especially if it is luxury goods. Except he declared them as ordinary items which means he is underquoting their value to get away with shipping costs which to me raises a red flag about the seller but all these could have been avoided if only the Midas employee had done their job of counting well.

I think Midas should see this as a feedback. I laugh when employers don't take the training, provision of necessary tools and welfare of their employees well. I have heard of mismatched packages before which a little patience might prevent. This may not have been related to that but it all points to one fact. The damge an incompetent employee whether by lack of training or lack of needed tools would cost the firm in the long run would outweigh what ever extra you would pay for quality training, good work environment and good pay.

This might even be the time you should go full CRM. Mails alone should not be the way to keep records. There are tools out there to scale things up and help the business avaoid costly mistakes.

One day your monkey will head to the market and never return. I've been using them three years no issues, but a friend that I referred to Midas is currently looking for his 4.5 million Naira worth of goods (phones).

I don't think I've made a total profit of 4.5 million Naira from the goods I've shipped with them in the last 3 year, now I imagine myself deciding to scale up and ship goods worth this much with them. My business will be taken several years into the past if this had been me.

Connect the pieces and move or wait till some time in the future when you lose it all.

When your service provider cannot take responsibility for whatever happens to your property placed in their care and they consistently have to make up stories in their defense, then something is fundamentally wrong, all the cases I have read tends to point to the lack of this on the part of Midas.

Some Help for the next stage (Business Awareness/ Situational Judgment Test):

These questions basically help employers know if your personality and attitudes are a match with what they want or stand for.( E.G Spontaneous or methodical, dependent or independent, rebellious or supportive, helpful and considerate or OYO and overly ambitious etc)

1. It's computer based so get a reliable computer and internet.
2. Answer it as early as possible to avoid rush or last minute pressure (did mine same day I received invitation).
3. Do it alone and by yourself, (SJTs have no right and wrong answers, rather appropriate or inappropriate based on who is asking: eg. An employer may want you to be independent and daring, while another wants you to follow rules, protocols and ethics).
3. I don't remember if multiple login is allowed, but answer it once and for all.
4. Learn about KPMG from the website, then you will know what they expect of you as an employee.
5. Don't be yourself in this test, you'll fail if you are not a perfect match with what KPMG stands for(it's not fair to get dropped at this stage). Rather use what you've learnt about them to fit yourself in (I hope that's understandable)
6. You can go back to previously answered questions before final submission, but be sure to note down your responses to all the questions in case they get wiped out.
Finally many of the questions will tend to engage you in too much thinking, take your time, but don't waste too much time (You'll never figure it out even if you sleep over the questions).

Wish you guys the best.
