You don't always need any help making dumb financial choices … but these people might be inadvertently rooting you on. 1. Your spouse There are many ways your spouse can hurt your finances, even if she has good spending habits. For example, your spouse has no credit history because she got a full-ride scholarship to college and paid cash for her car. When you jointly apply for a home mortgage, you might be rejected for the loan or charged a higher interest rate for a joint loan due to her lack of credit history, even if your own credit is spectacular. The shopaholic wife driving a couple into poverty is a tired and stupid trope. In fact, hardworking spouses are often the accidental cause of financial mayhem. If a couple with kids is paying more in taxes because their double income is putting them into a higher tax bracket, they should do the math to see if it's financially more profitable for one spouse to be the stay-at-home parent. Fair warning: Discovering that you're worth more to the family budget as a dependent on your husband's tax return than as a respected professional is an ego-crushing experience for wives who love their work but make less money than their husbands. Regardless of who stays home with the kids, it's worth running the numbers to see if a double income actually makes financial sense. My friends Katie and Marc discovered a few years ago that they were spending the equivalent of Marc's entire salary on childcare, gasoline, and other related work costs. Marc, who made less than Katie, decided to quit his job and stay home with the kids. With Katie as the sole breadwinner, they fell into a lower tax bracket, no longer needed the help of a nanny, saved on gas money, and put less wear and tear on Marc's car. As a full-time worker outside of the home, Marc was only adding $2,000 a year to the family's savings. As a stay at home dad, Marc adds $17,000 to the family's budget. 2. Your kid Based on a survey by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the cost to raise a child born in 2013 to the age of 18 is just over $245,000. Depending on your income and where you live, this number could be higher or lower, but the fact remains: having a child is the single most costly thing that most people will do in their entire lives. Although the high cost of having children is common knowledge to just about everyone, according to the Guttmacher Institute, 51% of pregnancies in the United States are unintended. Although many accidental parents are happy with their unintended offspring, what this statistic says is that over 50% of American families are just winging it with their finances, and that's kind of crazy. Would these same people accidentally buy a house for $245,000? Okay, okay. Comparing the pleasure of parenthood to the pleasure of homeownership is like comparing apples to oranges, but I'm hard pressed to think of another $245,000 investment that more than 6.6 million families would fall into without foresight each year. The best thing that parents can do to ensure the financial well- being of their family is to plan their parenthood. When you have children, how many children you have, and where you raise your children all have a direct impact on family finances. 3. Your parents While growing up with my parents' near pathological, Scrooge-like tight-waddery was no fun, I'm grateful as an adult to have parents who saved enough for retirement. Even though the financial downturn of 2007 knocked my parents' retirement fund down by 45%, they still have enough money to live comfortably for the next 25 years. Alas, my parents are the outliers in this scenario. Many of my friends are now faced with the financial double- whammy of supporting both their kids and their newly poor parents. What I find shocking is the number of young people forced into supporting their financially irresponsible parents who live extravagantly with no thought to how they will pay the bills once they leave the job market. Even if you hate your parents. Source: http://www.scamfender.com/2014/12/the-9-people-in-your-life-keeping-you.html?m=0 |

Whatever your specialization, you can enhance your authority as an expert via online sharing. These methods have worked for me. 1. Write a blog. Post at least one thoughtful article each week on a subject helpful to your readers. You may soon be invited (or you can offer) to contribute to other blogs, thereby expanding your audience. 2. Offer a newsletter. Compile a monthly or weekly email with tips, article links, event announcements and exclusive offers, and send it to your mailing list. 3. Write guest columns. When you contribute to online news hubs, you increase your audience, attracting more eyeballs to your blog or newsletter. 4. Tweet. Often. Post something that interests you on Twitter several times a day. Others will catch on. Whatever online methods you choose, be sure to refresh your content regularly. 1. Deal locally, face-to-face —follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts. 2. Do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person. Beware offers involving shipping - deal with locals you can meet in person. 3. Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union) - anyone who asks you to is a scammer. 4. Don't accept cashier/certified checks or money orders - banks cash fakes, then hold you responsible. 5. Transactions are between users only, no third party provides a "guarantee". 6. Never give out financial info (bank account, social security, paypal account, etc). 7. Do not rent or purchase sight-unseen —that amazing "deal" may not exist. 8. Refuse background/credit checks until you have met landlord/employer in person. Source: www.scamfender.com/2014/11/top-8-rules-of-avoiding-online-scams.html?m=0 |

Adulthood is exhausting. With the responsibilities of work, family, friendships and more, we are expending a lot of energy and are even limiting the amount of rest we can get to replenish it. At this point in my life, I figure I should save as much of my energy as I possibly can for the important things. These are some ways I've found that I was wasting energy and I didn't even know it. 1. Allowing background noise: Background noise raises stress levels , making it harder for us to focus on concentrate. When we continually require ourselves to perform tasks with noise — even if it's just a droning air conditioner — we are using more energy than we need to. While it might not be possible to eliminate all background noise, especially in our loud world, you can almost always do something to make it quieter. Buy some noise cancelling headphones and wear them without listening to anything, use earplugs, or turn off the TV to save your energy. 2. Giving away your power. There are so many ways to give away your power. The basic idea, though, is that you give away your power when you say or perceive that someone or something else is in charge of your life (or an aspect of it), rather than you. This can be as simple as always waiting for directions before you take action, or more complex like blaming your genes for a medical condition that limits you. When you give away your power, you give away your ability to make choices that will make your life better. For instance, you may not be able to do anything about an inherited medical condition, but you can still choose to live life to the full with that condition. Doing this will energize you. 3. Keeping lists in your head. Sometimes, I find myself exhausted because I'm trying to remember so many things. When I take a moment to write them down, my mind can relax because I know I won't forget anything important. The simple act of writing things down saves me energy now, but it also saves it later. If I insist on keeping all my lists in my head, I almost invariably forget something. That causes all sorts of stress and wastes so much mental energy later, when I have to scramble to pull something together or apologize profusely for missing an event. 4. Checking email more than twice a day. Most people really only need to check email twice a day. Most of your messages aren't urgent and, if someone has something that you really need to know right now, they can always call, text, or come find you themselves. When you check email all the time, you're distracted all the time. Sometimes, you're even trying to check your email while you're doing something else. However, multitasking doesn't really work. You're actually switching rapidly between tasks, not doing several things at once. All of this switching takes energy, which you wouldn't have to spend if you could focus on each task alone. 5. Trying to control the uncontrollable. I like to be in control, even when that isn't possible. In the past, I've wasted a lot of energy trying to control people and situations that it simply was not within my grasp to control. When I can let go of those things, I find that I have more energy to spend on the things that it is within my power to change. Letting go of the desire to control usually comes from places deep inside of us, and you probably won't be able to let it go overnight. Start by figuring out what you're afraid of that causes you to need so much control, and begin to work with the idea of letting go from there. 6. Working long hours. Working longer hours doesn't necessarily make you more productive. In fact, productivity tends to drop significantly the more hours you make yourself work. When you're working long hours, you're wasting your energy. That energy would be better spent finding a way to rest and to rejuvenate, so that you can come back to your task later, at optimum levels of productivity. Even if you don't get every second of rest that you need, a short break will help you focus again. Source: http://www.scamfender.com/2014/11/7-ways-you-waste-mental-energy-without.html?m=0 |
The longer people talk over the phone, the more likely they are to develop glioma, a deadly form of brain cancer, according to a new study. Brain tumour rates were three times more among people who spoke on cell or cordless phones after more than 25 years than those who did not use them, the findings showed. “The risk is three times higher after 25 years of use. We can see this clearly,” said Lennart Hardell, lead researcher and oncologist from University Hospital in Orebro in Sweden. For the study, Hardell and his colleague Michael Carlberg matched 1,380 patients with malignant brain tumours to people without such tumours. Researchers also compared their phone use. People who reported using cordless or mobile phones for 20 to 25 years had higher risk of being diagnosed with glioma, as compared with those who reported using them for less than a year, the study found. However, no link was found between wireless phones and malignant brain tumours besides glioma. A World Health Organisation panel of 31 scientists from 14 countries classified mobile phones as ‘possibly carcinogenic’ in 2011. A man came back to his home after being away from her wife for a year. He surprised her by his visit and kissed her as she stood shocked. After that, he took this picture of hers to mark a memory. After a few days, the man killed his wife. When the police arrived and asked for the reason, he told them that his wife was cheating on him. He gave this photograph as the proof. What do you think he found in this picture that made him believe that his wife was cheating on him? Can you find out?
