NFF appoints Madugu, Okon to Super Falcons’ technical crew

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday absorbed Coaches Justin Madugu and Edwin Okon into the technical crew of the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, in line with a recent resolve to rejig the team’s technical group.

This was confirmed in a press release by the NFF Communications Department.

In a brief meeting presided over by President of the NFF, Mr Amaju Melvin Pinnick at the Federation’s headquarters in Abuja, Madugu was designated the new 1st Assistant Coach of the Super Falcons while Edwin Okon, Chief Coach of Rivers Angels FC, will be Chief Scout for the squad.



Head Coach Randy Waldrum keeps his position. Coach Ann Chiejine will be 2nd Assistant Coach while Wemimo Matthew moves to the U20 team, Falconets.

“I want to see a Super Falcons’ squad that is feared by the opposition not only in Africa but all over the world. I trust that you two (Madugu and Okon) will bring some positive difference to our golden Super Falcons. I don’t want to see our Falcons struggling against teams in Africa when we should actually be going toe-to-toe with the best teams in the world.

“From now, we will scout for more players at home and abroad, particularly at home, and we will start organizing camps for the Super Falcons on the home front even before the overseas-based players arrive. We must make the effort and the investment to have a stronger squad that will continue to do Nigeria proud.”

Also present were NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi; Technical Director, Mr Austin Eguavoen; Director of Communications, Mr Ademola Olajire; Ag. Director of Competitions, Ms Ruth David and; Head of International, Mr Dayo Enebi Achor.

Following a 2-0 defeat of the Black Queens of Ghana in the first leg of the second round of the Women AFCON qualifiers, the Falcons lost 0-1 to the Queens in Accra to scrape through to the final round on 2-1 aggregate.

Victory meant the Falcons will take on the Lady Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire in the final round. The Elephants, who eliminated the Falcons from the race to the Tokyo Olympics on the away goal rule, blitzed past their counterparts from Niger Republic 20-0 on aggregate.

Nigeria will host the first leg in the second week of February 2022, with the return leg in Abidjan a week later.

In a related development, the President of NFF, Mr Pinnick has approved the opening of the Falconets’ camp as from this weekend for their second round fixture against their counterparts from Congo in December. This is in connection with the African qualifying race for the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup slated for Costa Rica.

The Congolese will host the first leg on 5th December, with the return leg in Lagos on 16th December.

I think NFF should relieve the current coach of his duties and replace him with Florence Omagbemi, Eucharia Uche and Maureen Mmadụ. Then watch as falcons will start their domination again.......

I da tell you, they were Springing at least 6 passes together and with much pace, they had confidence on the ball, once they lose the ball they get it back as soon as possible.. Asin Florence Omagbemi would have done a great job with the team if she had stayed longer and she would have also developed more as a World Class Coach herself..

Against Cameroon during the final the Lionesses didn't give the Superfalcons the chance to play their games but we had our way over them...

We were Passing well then, Better Defending. Asin 2016 was the Last time Superfalcons had a team..

If NFF had left Florence Omagbemi to continue with the team, I believe the Superfalcons would have been a better team by now..

This was the game video against South Africa then, though not very clear but enjoyable..

That semifinal against south africa was something else south Africa came to play on that day , the way Nigeria transition from defense to attack was quick and beautiful ikidi was unplayable and the referee also denied us a clean penalty after a swift counter attack

Coach Clémentine Touré "We need friendly matches"

Coach Clémentine Touré, a few minutes from the end of the recital against Niger, is already looking ahead to the second round match against Nigeria. The Captain band issue is also on ground..
The best decision will be to change the Coach and change the captain too...

No unity among them at all.
Since Asisat Oshoala assumed the mantle of Captain the team has been on regression more and more.. under Thomas Dennerby was a little bit better.!

The coach seem to believe in negative football. Also that ogbonna is not the best we should be offering at that position. The coach does a poor job of reading players ability in my opinion.

If the head coach is making a wrong decision, the Assistants are there to work with him not just sit on the bench..The whole Coaching Crew should just goooooo.. period

Omagbemi's team was ruthless and they played beautiful football.
They got rid of her because she asked for the authorities to pay what was due them, yet she got axed for it and this useless, unintelligent clown was brought in. God knows how much the guy is being paid?
We need Omagbemi back!!! This guy ain't taking us no where!!! At this rate, Cote D'Ivoire will wallop this team.
First it was South Africa, then Ghana, then it will be Cote D'Ivoire.

Florence Omagbemi is such a Confident Lady who doesn't take nonsense, They Couldn't control her, they wanted to interfere with her Players Selection but she gave them no room for that, this were among the reason the relieved her of the position..

This Coaching Crew needs to go....

I was surprised to see Mercy Akide Udoh comments on Facebook during game.. she clearly stated was needed to be done, I was like I wish she was the one heading the team..

Ghana U20 Assistant just sent me a message that this isn't the Superfalcons she used to know, That Ghana were superior but they couldn't take the chance and luck wasn't on their side..
