EducationJAMB Begins Sale Of 2017 UTME Forms, Reviews Registration by SchoolParrotNg(op): 6:47pm On Mar 01, 2017
Finally the wait is over! The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said, on Tuesday, that it would begin the sale of forms for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in March, 2017.

This was made know to newsmen by the spokesperson for JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

News has it that the registration of UTME this year will go side by side with the Direct Entry and during registration, candidates’ 10 fingers are to be captured using Biometric Verification Machine (BVN).

Dr. Fabian Benjamin asserted that no candidate will be admitted with awaiting result.

He said in the cause of conducting admission exercise, many institutions have admitted candidates on merit only for them to discover that such candidates do not have qualified O’levels results or the right combination for admission and had to delete and start the process all over again.

He said with this, they would have denied other qualified candidates the opportunities for admissions.

Benjamin explained, “To achieve this, JAMB will insist that candidates supply their result on its website during registration or later, but before admissions commences for them to be considered for admissions. We believe this will allow only qualified candidates to be considered for admissions.

“The board is poised to see that a reasonable percentage of candidates who take this examination and are qualified find placement in tertiary institutions.

The board further explained that candidates would henceforth be allowed to make one choice of public university, in which new registration platform will now be first choice, second choice, third choice and fourth choice.

“We have designed a Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) where the Board will interface with the institutions and ensure the compliance of this reform. The summary is that no candidate will be admitted with awaiting result.

Candidates and their parents are also to note that the Board has restructured the registration platform to allow for only one choice of Public University. The new registration platform will now be first choice, second choice, third choice and fourth choice and not most preferred, preferred etc as it was.

“Candidates’ first choice can be a College, University, Innovative Enterprises Institutions or Polytechnic/ Monotechnic. However, if a candidate makes a Public University his first choice, he will not have any public University to choose for 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice. He will have on the remaining three choices, a College, a Polytechnic, Private University and IEI’S. However, candidates for the 2017 UTME can now select NCE (College) or ND (Polytechnic/Monotechnic) as their 1st choice up to 3rd choice and the 4th IEI. They can select the IEI (Innovative Enterprise Institution, ND) as their 1st choice up to the 4th choice, but can only pick a public university once.

“This restructuring is to expand the opportunities available to candidates as almost all the public universities do not consider candidates on the second choice list because they hardly exhaust their first choice”.

“Again, we want to inform candidates that no cyber café will be registering candidates for our examination. On no account should any candidate patronize any cybercafé for our registration. It is important to note that the Board will not deploy the use of any scratch card for the 2017 UTME registration exercise.”

EducationFUTA Official Website Hacked Again! (futa.edu.ng) - (see pic) by SchoolParrotNg(op):
The Below image popped up on our screen when we try
to access the official site of Federal University Akure.
Seems the hackers are just passing a message to the
web admin to be security conscious as the inscription
depicts such.

"If your web have been hacked, Blame yourself who
can not keep it, do not blame others because it is
his hobby".

The Hackers known as Indonesian Cod Party had the
above inscription written on the site. Its sad that this
incident is occurring at this critical moment when
aspirants are awaiting more list from the institution.

Something should be done, this is not the first nor the
second time, We are hoping that this issue will be
resolved soon.

EducationParents Now Withdrawing Children From Private Schools As Hardship Bites Harder by SchoolParrotNg(op): 10:38am On Sep 13, 2016
If your husband earns below 250k per month and your
two children's school fees is about N500k, and he's
paying, you should know he's engaging in officially
"stealing" to meet up. It's time to cut your clothe
according to your resources. Feeding and other
household responsibilities are increasing.

Stop forcing to live at a level you've not attained before you are caught napping.

As your read this, some parents have started
withdrawing their kids from private to public schools,
due to the current economic hardship. Findings indicate
that many of the parents took the decision when they
discovered that the income at their disposal could no
longer meet school fees and other daily needs.

Some proprietors of private schools, who spoke with
Punch, said they were expecting such situation. The
Deputy President, National Association of Proprietors of
Private Schools, Mr. Abayomi Otubela, said one of his
members in Mushin, Lagos, had formally complained
that parents were withdrawing their children in droves,
from her school to the public schools in the area.

A mother of three, Mrs Favour Ukpong, whose child
attends a private school in Fagba area of Lagos, told
Punch that she had withdrawn her daughter from the
school and moved her to a public school.

Ukpong said, “I just realised that I can’t afford the fees
any longer. More so, the proprietors have increased the
fees from N18,000 to N25,000 .
“How much do I make from my business? I don’t make
much. Paying N18,000 was a challenge for me. I took
my time to search for a good public school in my area. I
am happy with my choice.”

Another parent, Mrs Wemimo Abiodun said her child’s
tuition had increased by N10,000, leading to her
decision to withdraw her daughter from a private school
at Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos.

She said, “There are good public schools that have
sound teachers. Many parents get carried away with the
hype that comes with having a child in a private school
.
“I had wanted to withdraw my daughter long time ago.
The tuition was N40,000 and has now increased to
N50,000. My husband can’t afford that, so we have to
adjust immediately.”

Also, a banker, Mr Steve Aliyu, who said he was a victim
of a mass sack in his organisation recently, said he had
withdrawn his four year-old daughter from a private to
a public school.

He said, “I took the decision because I was affected by
the recent retrenchment exercise in one of the new
generation banks, and things have not been easy for me
and my family.”

EducationAgain? New Edo Election Date Clashes With WAEC GCE Exams by SchoolParrotNg(op): 10:23am On Sep 13, 2016

Fresh crisis appears to have erupted as the rescheduled Edo State governorship election, is still clashing with the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

The new date is said to be clashing with Physics
practical, Food and Nutrition (1 and 2) and two other
papers.

The September 10 date earlier fixed for the conduct of
the election had clashed with Mathematics papers in the
examinations before the election was postponed for
security reasons.

Some of the aggrieved candidates had earlier protested
due to the clash between the election and their
mathematics examination.

The students, according to a popular daily, expressed
discomfort with the new clash between their Physics
practical examination and the September 28 date fixed
for the election.

Also, GCE candidates writing their papers in Edo State
have expressed delight that they were not made to
travel outside the state to write their papers.

EducationAlleged Addition Of N16,000 To UNN School Fees by SchoolParrotNg(op): 3:38pm On Sep 09, 2016
OFFICE OF THE INFORMATION OFFICER
STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA

Re: ALLEGED ADDITION OF N16,000.00 TO THE
SCHOOL FEES

While we appreciate the fact that we are in an academic
environment, and thus students are free to react to
rumours and hearsays especially via social media, we
also wish to encourage all well-meaning Lions and
Lionesses to always confirm rumours before either
sharing or making negative comments, especially as
regards unpleasant rumours.

Here is what you need to know about the proposed
addition to the school fees. The Students' Union
Government was approached with a proposal for the
establishment of an online program for students at the
cost of N15,000.00 for each student. Considering the
objectives of the programme and its benefits to the
students we agreed that it is a laudable proposal but
should either be made optional or totally forgotten. We
understand the economic situation of the country and
the many fees we have been paying as students to
which any further addition will not be welcomed. This is
our stand and we are doing our best to ensure it carries
the day.

Deliberations on this have been ongoing and we have
kept it from you because it was totally unnecessary to
cause undue agitation to students while we worked.
However, news about this was made public, and mixed
up with a lot of wrong inclusions, thus making you
believe the wrong things. Please note that we are doing
our best to protect, not just your interest but ours as
well since we are all students passing through the same
challenges in Den.

Our demand to the proponent is as follows:

1. Make it optional
2. Add it to the university curriculum at no extra cost to
the students or
3. Forget about it totally.

Whichever works of these options will be for the good of
the students, and whatever the outcome of our
deliberation will be communicated to you as promptly
as possible.

Finally, we wish to solicit your earnest prayers as we
continue to do our best to ensure that the mandate you
have given to us does not suffer. The Students' Union
Government, under the leadership of Comr. Chukwu
Emmanuel is poised to serve you to the best of our
efforts so you may be proud of your decision to entrust
to us the protection of your interest.
