TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by scofield03:
Continued...
She looked up after typing what I told her and said what do you intend doing after your MSC in groundwater management? ( I had so many answers...) the first that came to my mind is; I want to continue in Germany to continue my studies PhD... she said why PhD? I said I want to be an expatriate in Geoscience as I aspire to be a lecturer (lecturer gini?4 my mind. lol) and Germany seem to be a good choice. she said okk n typed again.. how many semesters is the Phd ? I said 3, how many years? 6.
Finally, she asked 'have you got a confirmation from Deutsch bank, I said yes since last Friday..
have you funded it? I said no, I intend doing that immediately after my interview. she said I should do that ASAP. I said I will. she took a breath and removed her head piece and said that's all take back you passport. I thanked her n took my leave...I left with a confirmation in my mind that it is settled...I'm working on funding the acct soon. wish me luck!
for those going for interview, study the wikipedia of your school city in addition to what you get from your school and web.
cheers
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by scofield03:
hello house,
I had my interview yesterday and it was superb!
Similar questions to what my ogas have updated. I have these to add to what I was asked:

I was interviewed by the white lady that signed the blocked acct form, when she asked what do you know about Germany? I mentioned 3 to 4 sentences n she stopped me and directly asking me the questions.. like, population, the countries bordering Germany, number of states ( I listed them alphabetically- she also asked for their capital) I listed up to the 7 with capital n she stopped me.
who is the head of Germany?
who is the president?
who is the first president n chancellor of Germany? I gave her a bold smile n said ma'am I did not make my research up to that. She smiled back too and said okay!
you want to study in FREIBERG? yea! what do you know about FREIBERG? I started by saying it means free mountain in German, and it is located in Saxony 31km from Dresden the capital. she stopped me and said she doubt what I am saying that is Freiberg really in Saxony (she pronounced it Sachsen). I said yea I'm sure. she replied and told me to give her a minute to confirm, she googled straight (I have a feeling she used wikipedia). when she saw it to be correct she nodded her head and said she never knew its in Saxony( I was feeling like a superstar with a lil smile on my face)
she asked which district? (that was when I knew she is on Wikipedia) I mentioned mittelsachsen
Who is the governor or president of Sachsen (not sure which of the two she used) ? I said do you mean the mayor? she said yeah.. at this point I paused n do ehmm Erwin something I said I can't pronounce the last name she said I should pronounce it any how. then I mentioned the name and back it up with the spelling Erwin Schramm (i was not sure if d name end with a d' or t') she first said noo am I sure? I said yeah n spelt the first five letters n said stop u are right with a smile, she wanted to know if I'm sure of wat I'm saying

she continued n ask for population of Saxony n capital? I gave her
Now my course, how many modules n CP? I said its not arranged semesterly from what I saw in my program that I only know 14 core modules n 13 electives, she said mention them, I mentioned the 14 core modules n she put them down on the PC I was about giving her the electives she said I should not worry?
who is ur sponsor?
what does he earn? his position?
I answered all without stuttering she nodded in affirmation.
please I will continue later...

Good to hear from you bro, I really wish we could rap one on one as you know more about Bremen.. I hope i get your contact few days to my departure (By Gods Grace), my interview is next week and I have my db account details but my account was opened close to Freiberg where i got accepted first. My questions are:

1) can i proceed with Visa application with this Freiberg admission knowing well that Bremen is my intension?
2) After been issued visa, (with freiberg) will i fly straight to Bremen or Freiberg first?
3) How easy can i get accomodation in Uni Bremen via studentwerk or any other means?
4) My Visa application form was filled on PC (I was able to edit the pdf file) with mixture of Upper class and lower class letter (e.g German Embassy), I hope it will not be a problem at the embassy entrance?
Thanks in advance... Please any other person can give his/her view

bros if u ask me, since it is an option, and not by force, I'd advise you to grab the offer with both hands and legs. You could choose to go to these countries you have mentioned or also choose to stay back (if you have a very stable student job or those holiday student jobs that pay like 1kEUR monthly). In the end, if na money you dey find, you might end up staying back in Germany to complete your course because the stress of quickly integrating and getting a good student job in these places you have mentioned doesn't come into play. If however, going to these countries will offer you money via paid internships or if you have money to flex and want to tour round the globe, then you might end up completing the course outside of Germany.
As long as it is not by force, Bros you are GOOD TO GO!!!
Thanks bro for your input. i appreciate...the school in question is in east Germany (Freiberg, Saxony). considering the job prospect in that part of Germany, though there are job opportunities, research assistance, internship etc.
I will do the first semester in Germany and see if I can get a good pay job, if not.. US dey my mind lol...I love touring. more input pls

Hello house, we expect more good news this week...
I came across something captivating in my Course description and I felt like sharing and need contributions. the course is in collaboration with over 30 universities including US, UK, Canada, Australia, Canada etc. I have the option of completing up to 50% of Credit point in any of these universities (2 semesters).
From my little research, I may not be able to work as exchange student in Canada but I'm permitted to work in US.
what do you think about this course offer? is it a good one? I understand there is no much restriction to all these countries with a German resident permit...
what do you think about the expenses (from your perspective) except travelling fare.
Please, I need your humble opinion and advice... Thanks

Guys, pls I need schools not under uni-assist that I can send application to and only schools that accept letters from minstry of education or higher institutions as prove of proficiency in English. I applied 2 schools under uni assist and don't want to put all my hope on just 2. Maritime courses if possible, but I don't mind other courses that is less competitive. Or any school I can apply for masters with HND.
Do u mean you applied for msc with those 2 schools considering the fact that you have a HND?

TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by scofield03: 10:35pm On Jun 11, 2015
I think I am also in Nellyb's shoe. I guess its cos we study related courses... I came to realize after several applications and rejections that some courses are generally competitive in 90% of German Universities. Even after meeting all their requirements.
Geoscience courses are known to be expensive in great unis in UK, US n around the world, which made most eyes to be on Germany. Imagine Engineering, physics, mathematics graduates across the globe still fighting for the same slot.

Let me use myself as a case study, I applied to 4 schls against summer 2015...I studied geophysics. I was rejected by all, MSC physics in Muenster n Ulm plus MSC in Engineering Physics TUM. Reason; I didn't meet the requirement based on the number of pure physics I did in Bsc. Finally, by Uni Bayreuth (MSC experimental Geoscience) Reason; I scored 14.5 points in their assessment, minimum point expected was 12.0 (motiv letter was poorly graded). I accepted all these in good faith... Around Feb ending I had to refire n throw more applications. This time around I faced geoscience courses (LMU, Stuttgart, Tuebingen), I bet you my application was well packaged n my GP is 2,2 in German system. By April ending I got feedback from LMU n Tuebingen that I was refused. Reason; although my previous degree is recognized but I was not selected because the course is highly competitive.... I almost lost hope this time around. I later felt I shd change region of the schools I am applying to:I discovered Kiel, Bremen, TU Freiberg n TU Darmstadt*
Presently, I am proud to say I am admitted to TU Freiberg-Groundwater management (I don't mind if its in the east). Still expecting to hear from KIEL, Bremen n TU Darmstadt...I had to mention the schools so that you can
know the calibre of schools that offer Geoscience courses.
No one is perfect, for the fact that you are admitted with one or two apps does not mean you should feel those that 'multi-apply' are wrong. Its a matter of dream and determination.
I would have missed the chance of the possibility of studying in Deutschland this winter if I had stopped at 7 schools, a post I saw in the previous thread inspired me... The guy applied to 13 schools n got d offer of admission from the 13th school.
Please, for the sake of those that are still aspiring to study this winter or next yr. Do not limit yourself and never mind what people say.
My longest post...I didnt point any finger, I just want somebody somewhere to learn from my story.
In short... Don't give up. Cheers

Nellyb24 expect to hear from Bremen soon, as the admission committees sat today...
Please, who is familiar with or know much about Uni Bremen admission process...I got a mail from them today to send 2 recommendation letters before June 15. Though, the letter was optional on the online portal. How do I go about it? Do I still stand a chance to be admitted knowing fully well that decisions will be made in 2 weeks (max).
Thanks

just got a rejection mail frm gottigen hydrogeology and environmental geoscience.i studied geology frm uniport had a 3.12.has anybody been accepted in d heg course.hola muo.....bremen and kiel is stil my dream
Sorry about the rejection bro, there is still hope. i also had intention of applying for the HEG but, but judging from their requirements and application process, i felt the course would be competitive. Though Kiel and Bremen still owe me admission in Marine Geoscience.

My good people, after rejections from LMU, Tuebingen and Stuttgart, at last i can take i can take a deep breath as i just got an offer from TU Bergakademie Freiberg today. Still expecting more from Darmstadt. i must confess, this thread has been an inspiration to me as i have been inspired to apply to as many as possible schools. My advice to newbies like me is; do not limit your choice of school to one particular region in Germany (especially South). My first seven rejections were from highly ranked research Universities in Southern Germany.

For those still expecting their admissions, i pray it comes on time. Germany is really worth the stressss. Cheers!!!

The online aptitude test involves a normal short interview in form of questionnaire, after which you will be taken to the online form. You will write a statement of purpose and a financial statement (no document needed to be attached), you will also be required to upload your credentials as a single pdf file.
The online application commenced from 12th Jan - Feb ending. The minimum GPA required is 3.0 or better in German system.
I hope it was helpful.

Eke40seven:
You don't still understand. Uni-Assist is a PRIVATELY OWNED AGENCY however, with a nationally renowned and dependable track record while DAAD is in charge of all Tertiary institution matters in Germany, more like what NUC is to Nigeria. So DAAD's verdict is final because they are STATUTORILY in charge of TERTIARY institutional matters in GERMANY. So, if a school is not accredited you would likely not find it on DAAD.

Let me ask you, can you list the best and most internationally renowned school in the WHOLE of GERMANY?

I will list some of the top 5 in no particular order, TU Munich, LMU (University of Munich), University of Freiburg, University of Geottingen and I can categorically tell you that for 95% of their courses taught in English, they run the application using their system internally. So are you saying TUM, LMU and Freiburg, the best unis in Germany are not accredited huh
This is no hearsay. These schools will categorically tell you not to go through uni- assist or you would be wasting your time, however, they are the best and as legit as the chancellor's signature. So that statistics you gave about uni assist is completely flawed.

You know the reason why i fiercely disputed your claims? So many depend on this thread as an ultimate source of credible and vital info and a wrong one however small, would lead many astray.
Peace!
I fully agree with your view man! From my own point of view, highly ranked schools (esp in sciences) evaluate students independently without going through Uni-assist, few go as far as asking you to pay for processing fee (e.g TU clausthal-highly rated in Geosciences) directly to their school, meaning they can do all the evaluations of Uniassist independently.
My opinion.

hehehe you were rejected by unibayreuth..... you better be happy.
I would advise you to search for another school and apply. Trust me bayreuth is not a place you want to go if you would like to work and study.
Really? Kindly share your little experience about the school pls. Actually, my main target is winter 2015 in other schools but Bayreuth has the best offer for Summer 2015 (in terms of course). I intend switching to a more preferred location also in the South during Winter.
My major concern is, can I still be considered for admission after appealing? Thanks for you input sir
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by scofield03: 1:50pm On Feb 03, 2015
Hello my good people of NL,
Please, I just received a rejection letter from one of my favorite Msc program (uni bayreuth- msc experimental geoscience). However, part of the content of the letter stated that I have the right to appeal within one month.
I really don't know how they calculate point for their aptitude test but I had 15,4 points and the pass mark was 12,5 in german scale (which I guess qualifies me for an appeal).
My question is? What's the content of the appeal letter., can the appeal be written by me? Do I still have the possibility of been admitted if I act fast.
N.B: google is a good avenue for sample but I need to know if anyone has been in this shoe once. Thanks

@ Eke40seven, I really don't know much about the Studienkolleg but from the little knowlege I gathered from previous infos on this thread (part1):

1. I think minimum German proficiency level is B2..

2. The entrance exam based on statistic is comparably "difficult". Though, nothing is impossible with hardwork.

3. I am not sure if there is any Studienkolleg exam centre in Nigeria, I only know of Goethe Institute where one can attain this level B2 German proficiency or more.

I don't really have a confirmed info on 5 & 6.
Let more experienced peeps throw more light into this.

@fapper,
I got to know daad.de before I discovered the part1 of this great thread last year. I submitted two applications for Winter2015 since November (Uni Stuttgart and Uni Tuebingen) and in LMU Munich (application opened January 12-online). I still have Uni Goettingen and Freiberg in mind (application is also open).
I wouldn't know if it depends on the course of study but for Geosciences most of the school's application links are opened.
Cheers.

Yeah, I mean Winter Semester (WS2015), SS2015 application of most schools closed by Jan15. Check out daad.de there are numerous Msc Courses (+100% English taught) whose deadline exceeds March 31st. Just draw your plan very well you can still get a place for WS2015.

For instance, I applied to 4 schools for SS2015 which I am yet to get a positive feedback, I had to apply to 3 more schools for WS2015 to be on a safer side and their deadlines are around March and April. Hope it was helpful? I stand to be corrected though.

Hmm...I'm in similar shoes, attempting to take the A2 exam head-on in march. It depends mostly on how much effort you put in for it to be sufficient. I would recommend "Easy German" on YouTube because you can follow translations in German and English at the same time and then the Goethe Mundliche prufungen on YouTube to know what you're up against in the oral section and you can get some audio and articles to practice with on the Goethe website, and don't forget your conjugations 'Ich spreche' Mein zwei Loffel.
Danke, I have got a witness. Yeah, I get your point: "ich spreche" nt 'ich sprechen'. The Easy German on youtube has really been of help, I just need more dedication.
