Please don't forget , you can by all means look at the overall university score / rating.
Remember that some schools specialise in certain subjects. So check the rating for subject as well, that can be what brings potential employers to a school or department and those are the good jobs! cheesy
infact the subject table is more significant. Old universities would forever be ranked above the ones created in 1992. So why bother about the overall ratings

lol....y'all seen d latest guardian ranking....Coventry uni actually slip past d so called 'Russell Group' schools ( some of dem tho wink ...to rank 15 in uk. not bad tho...not bad atall...

although some say ranking dont matter....Buh i feel dey still do sorta

Coventry has been getting lots of accolades lately some of their courses are accredited by some professional bodies. lthough I rejected Coventry for RGU cus they have stronger links with industries. What is CRUCIAL is the ranking of whichever school ny1 attends when its time to graduate it could be high now and low when its time to graduate or the other way round.

Not really, you may not just be able to "complete" the 20 hours PW on your visa when school is in session. It depends on the individual involved anyway...

Ah, ABS.

Best wishes sir.
Yh and maybe schedule of classes..are u in ABS too?

lol! There are part-time jobs alright, but school work really leaves little room..As we all found out.. Plus you'd need to get a National Insurance number first..

If you don't mind my asking, what are you coming to study?

Honestly, staying in school accommodation has it's down sides too. You'll be asked to leave when the school term ends (40/50 weeks)..Surf Gumtree, flatroommates for flatshares if you want private accommodation..
tnks already on that. Are Part Time jobs still hard to get by?

Maybe the earlier message was a little ambiguous. The rent I quoted is not inclusive of bills. Although you may end up paying the bills to your landlord...

Garthdee
--Rent: £400-450PM
--Bills: £100 or less PM
--[Bus pass]: Quarterly bus pass £135 (£45 PM)Or term pass (only available in September) £320 (£35.6PM)
Total: £585.6PM (max)

Town
--Rent: £300-400PM
--Bills: £100 or less PM
--Bus pass: Quarterly bus pass £135 (£45 PM) Or term pass (only available in September) £320 (£35.6PM)
Total: £535.6PM (max)

The First Bus Aberdeen pass is valid from 01 September 2015 until 30 June 2016

So, whatever you might think you'll be saving if you stay in Garthdee is eroded by the rent and the fact that you will most likely end up buying a bus pass. You can buy daily or weekly tickets, but that is more expensive.
Thanks man, I would start searching or worse get a room @ woolmanhill flats. Tnks 4 ur time You've really hit the nail on the head.

Forget it bro. Garthdee/Kaimhill area, budget £400 - £450 for rent, and around £100 for bills. Here, you have no need to take the bus to school. Your church, friends, work may however take you to town so, a bus pass may be in order, see below.

City centre, rent: £300 - 400. Bills: £100 or less depending. Quarterly bus pass £135 Or term pass (only available in September) £300.

All bills are quoted PM, and include: Gas, Electricity, Internet. Water is free. So is refuse disposal. NHS offers free health care.
ok thanks, am sure the city centre isn't a walkable distance to Garthdee. So all bills are included in the £300-400 at d city centre or I budget another £100 or less?

ok thanks I wanted to know the price of rents around Kaimhill cults or Garthdee compared to the one the school offers. Is 100pw or less still viable by september?.

RGU has high graduate prospects compared to most top unis.I wonder how they did it
. Yh you are right quite high they host large career fairs and have strong links with various companies. Although I don't know if high graduate prospects include a large number of either international students or Home students, or even more of undergraduates than postgraduates.

Guys Happy New month! smiley... Interesting exchange of conversations and ideas here!.It has been really helpful. I think the previous conversations between those 2 guys was interesting. Since I joined this thread, I have received realist information and also Alarmist informations. The guy that earlier pointed out to me that I should drop my UK admission and go to Canada made an alarmist comment. Most people that cant get into Canada for Masters do so through PGD(Post graduate diploma). And most do so because they are on second class lower divison. Even the 2:1 and First class folks dont get in easily, but some do!. I think people having drumming Canada as a land of goodies(no doubt), but in reality, it is tough. I have two friends that are in Canada presently, one finished with a 2:2 from a private uni, the other I think 3rd class from a private uni too. Their PGD program ends this month, one of them applied to 5 schools for masters for pharmacology, 4 rejected him, his hopes are hanging on one,if it doesn't work out, he has to come back to Naija as visa will expire, the other one also applied but got rejected, still hoping on one or two. For the UK, my only problem is the exchange rate, all this immigration and job palava is everywhere. The only thing im worried now is the ranking for the schools. The babe that complained about Robert Gordon dropping some places, I looked at the school ranking, I looked at the school I got admission into, I started having low self esteem. Tbh. I still strongly recommend going to the UK to do masters is better than going to Canada and passing through to do PGD, you spend all that money and time and struggle to get a job, and then cant even get in for Masters. I called that wasted investment. My folks doing PGD told me that most international students (indians) in Canada looking to get a good job and stay back all have masters + job experience (from UK or abroad), its only the Nigerian students that have only First degree. That makes them(indians) more competitive and better placed to be picked for good jobs, not carrying a 2:2 or 3rd class Bsc and then you get an Ontario graduate Certificate/diploma and think you can pull off a good job? I dont think so. and In summary, I have a few questions to ask and points to make:
1) What is the point of going to Canada (for people without first class), if after doing PGD you cant get in for Masters?, or are you going there for the ''benefits''?
Since in UK you can work part time (20hrs a week) and then all fees are paid, one should strive to get a distinction and leave the future to God. I have stopped worrying since I got warm advice and real talk from a member here, it truly inspired. Its okay to give out reality checks, at the same time too, everyone has different destinies, all we should try to do is encourage one another and I pray God directs us to achieve our various dreams and goals!. have a blessed week kiss
Good talk, fact remains UK cert. are still prestigious. if not for the "almighty" exchange rate pple might not want to stay back after studying to look 4 jobs to atleast get part of their fees back. Heard Canada is gradually changing their immigration policies too. Try to look beyond the general rankings look at subject rankings and graduate prospects the rgu lady probably dint do that.

Alright sir. The course is Environmental Health & Safety. Its quite appealing too in Nigeria as oil companies need Health & safety managers and other environmental agencies. I'm optimistic really. Whether or not one secures a job after masters is secondary. The main thing is to have a good result and be competitive. I would have waited till next year but my folks insist I have to go this year. And then the course I got in Canada (Undergrad PGD for 2years with tuition of 2.5m per year, didnt make so much sense too me). I will just workhard and have faith in God to lead me and tap into opportunities available. Basically it cant just be class class class, and im not really the party type so I guess I will concentrate on the apps as well as settling down
I thought PGD in canada was 8months?

Even with the cancellation of the PSW,US and Canadian schools should always be top priority for Nigerian graduates but sadly most fall in the 2.2 category which is mostly accepted in the UK.
