Two little boys aged 7 and 10 years old have been arrested for rapping and beating a 1 year old girl to death in Cameroon.

According to reports, they forced her into a pit toilet afterwards, and went ahead to beat her with a stick till they were sure she was dead.
The boys have reportedly admitted to the crime, which was said to have taken place on Wednesday, September 7, in the Kumbe Balindo area of Ndian Division in Cameroon.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said the union Will commence a warning strike action starting on the 2nd October,2016. if Federal Government fail to meet up with its agreements, The ASUU chairman university of Abuja chapter, Dr Ben Ugheoke disclosed this information to the media.

He said, "We have tired to dialogue with the federal Government but they have been playing games with us, we will start with a warning strike to show them we are jokers''

Dr. Ugheoku noted that all efforts by the union proved abortive while stressing that the strike will last for one week,
''and if they do not give us listening ears we will start the indefinite strike come November 2016.''

It will be recalled that ASUU in a recent conference stated that Federal Government owns the union N124bn as earned academic allowances from 2013-2016, aside another N495bn that also accumalated as arrears.

The union also urged both federal and state government to honor the agreements they entered into with them in order to prevent a major crisis.

So intimate daily life photos have emerged of an Indonesian man who claims he is the world’s oldest at an incredible 145 years.

According to documentation recognised by Indonesian officials, a 145-year-old man identified as Mbah Gotho who was born on 31st December 1870, has been declared as the world’s oldest man alive in the world history who has outlived all 10 of his siblings as well as his four wives, the last of whom died in 1988.
According to Dailymail , Mbah’s children have also died, and now he is survived by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
New images released by the British publication show the man eating, drinking and spending time with family members, and despite his alleged advanced age, the man is still able to walk and move independently.
The super senior citizen from Sragen, Central Java, was interviewed by Liputan 6 television news, and he said he has been through it all and would not mind passing on. ‘What I want is to die. My grandchildren are all independent,’ he told Liputan 6 on Tuesday.

‘He eats everything and has never even been ill,’ a family member said.

Suryanto, Mbah Gotho’s grandson, said his grandfather has been preparing for his death ever since he was 122, but it never seemed to come. ‘The gravestone there was made in 1992. That was 24 years ago,’ he said.

In addition, Suryanto said Mbah Gotho’s family has already prepared a gravesite for him – near his children’s graves.
His identification showing his date of birth as December 31, 1870 has been verified by the Indonesian government
Staff at the Indonesian records office have confirmed Mbah Gotho’s birthdate, which is specified on his Indonesian ID card as 31st December 1870.

Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been left out of Manchester United’s Europa League squad. According to BBC.

The ex-Germany captain, who has trained alone or with the Under-23s under new boss Jose Mourinho, was named in their 25-man Premier League squad on Friday.

The 32-year-old World Cup winner retired from international football this week after 24 goals and 121 caps. Eighteen-year-old defender Axel Tuanzebe has been named in United’s 27-man Europa League squad.

Only 21 non-“club trained” players – those who have spent three years at the club between the ages of 15 and 21 – can be named in squads for the European competition.

United could only count forwards Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard as “club trained” so a maximum squad of 23 could be named, along with four Under-21 players in Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Tuanzebe.

Schweinsteiger signed a three-year deal in July 2015 but was told by Mourinho last month that it would be “very difficult” for him to play again for the club.

United begin their Europa League campaign away to Dutch club Feyenoord on 15 September.

They are in Group A along with Turkey’s Fenerbahce and Zorya of Ukraine. Top Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, has spoken on her appointment as a special assistant to the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Udom Emmanuel, on tourism. In this interview with Lanre Odukoya, she talks about her journey epiphany and other issues.

A lot of positive recognition has greeted your appointment as the special assistant to the governor on tourism; do you think your career as an actress will continue to get the same level of acceptance in Nigeria?

I want to believe so, because since my appointment to serve my state, I have had so many calls from producers, actors calling to extend their hands of fellowship in building the Nigerian project. Again, I have been invited to play different roles in the movie industry.

Do you think your appointment will impact Nollywood?

I think it is a plus to the producers and actors that one of their own has a government appointment again; I am not the first to be so appointed in Nigeria.

Other notable movie actors had been appointed and they contributed their quota to the development of the industry and this is what I aim to do.

How will you describe your work in government?

My work in government is basically to assist my state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, in the area of tourism development. This entails how as a state we can harness the rich tourism potential into a world class money-making venture that will also attract direct foreign investment into the state and increase tourist traffic into Akwa Ibom State.

Is there any challenge combining it with acting?

Certainly, nothing good comes easy but I still try to do my work religiously and I put in my very best to uphold the confidence reposed on me having been so appointed to serve my state.

How will you describe the government’s approach towards tourism development in the state?

Among Gov. Emmanuel’s five-point agenda, tourism is encapsulated in the industrialisation drive and as such he is very keen in developing t h e vast tourism potential that abound in the state and this gave impetus to his endorsement of the Ibomfest Heritage Festival which is coming up from December 15 to 17.

For us, developing the tourism sector will increase tourist traffic to our state, increase the IGR and employ a lot of our youths and others of employable age.

What is so unique about Ibomfest?

Ibomfest is unique in many ways. At first, its theme is ‘Our Cultures Beyond Borders,’ so I would like to say it’s not a carnival of some sort.
It is a festival to showcase our way of life, our natural endowments, our rich cultural heritage and our most widely celebrated cuisines.

Every local government area in the state is blessed with huge deposits of natural resources; all of these will be showcased to the admiration of spectators, tourists and visitors during the festival in December
.
What challenges did you have to surmount to get the project to this level?

Well, I did not see challenges other than I needed to get the right people, the right team to work with to achieve this task. That I have got, and so far our team is working night and day to make sure the project succeeds.

Since our governor runs an all-inclusive government, he endorsed the project after my presentations to him. Having been convinced of the economic benefits accruable to the state, he gave his nod and endorsed it.

What plans do you have for visitors coming to Akwa Ibom State for the festival?

Our state is the safest place now in Nigeria, as such visitors will not have problems of security as our armed security personnel are everywhere in the state offering maximum security to all persons. Our hotels a r e all mobilised to clean up their environment in readiness to receive visitors.

All hospitality business owners have also begun to train their staff in preparation for the festival. Local tours will be organised to allow our visitors see Akwa Ibom and its beauty.

What activities have you planned for Ibomfest?

The festival has four components. One of them is the parade of colours where all local government areas will parade in the streets of Uyo to showcase their rich cultural attires, masquerades and natural endowments within their locality giving room for prospective investors to see the availability of such and the abundance of it and then invest.
Then the cultural attires can be rebranded for export into the international markets.There is also The Beach Fashion Show. Our Ibeno Beach is the longest stretch of sandy beach in the coast of Africa, yet in the past, it did not receive any recognition; we intend to host a fashion show there to enable our visitors to appreciate the beauty, its ambience and tap from the economic activities there.
Our Akwa Ibom cuisines are widely accepted and appreciated, we shall host a food fair to showcase our local delicacies and rebrand for export.
Then there is a boat regatta. Since we are a riverine state, it’s important to showcase our strength in boat building through this colourful boat regatta competition.

Are you expecting a huge partnership with corporate bodies on the project?

Yes, Ibomfest is expected to be a public private partnership driven project as such we call on all corporate bodies in the country to come and be part of it by way of sponsorship or partnership to make this vision a reality.

Already some corporate organisations are beginning to make enquires while some have indicated strong interest to participate.

What legacy do you plan to leave behind after your appointment?

By God’s special grace, I plan to build the Ibomfest Heritage Festival to be self-sponsored, attract tourist traffic yearly to the state, increase the IGR and create employment and partner development agencies and government to develop tourist sites in Akwa Ibom State.


What Nuggets Of Wisdom Will You Want To Share With Budding Actors In Nigeria Some Of Whom Your Career Has Inspired?

The primary advice I will offer any budding actor is that selling yourself for roles to a producer to get ahead does not work in the long run, not as well as hard work and talent.

Develop your craft and always give everything in depicting any roles you accept to play whether big or small. That’s what gets you noticed and that’s what wins awards.

The parents of Ese Oruru, the 14-year-old girl who was abducted and impregnated by one Yunusa Dahiru, who took her to Kano, have alleged that there were plans to steal their granddaughter, by some young men.
The development came barely six months after Ese was rescued and reunited with her loved ones.

Her parents raised the alarm in an interview with Sunday PUNCH on Saturday that there have been persistent threats by some people to take away their teenage daughter’s three-month-old baby girl.

They explained that their fear was based on recent events, one of which included an assault to one of Ese’s siblings.

Ese mother, Rose, said, “Towards the end of July, a man traced us from the court to the Police Officers’ Mess in Yenagoa (Bayelsa State capital). We later overheard him talking in Hausa language to someone on the telephone that he had located the place where Ese and her baby were staying.

“He said that they don’t want the baby to grow up with ‘these people,’ meaning us. My daughter ran to us when she heard that. I later sent my son to buy sachet water and he told us when he returned that he also saw the same man standing outside.

“I later saw this same man walking back and forth outside the officers’ mess, and he was still talking on the phone. His movements were suspicious. Since then, we have been living in fear.”

Ese’s mother added that the same man was with Ese’s alleged abductor, in the court premises during one of the proceedings, wearing a red cap.
She also said one of her children was assaulted recently while on a commercial motorcycle by some unknown persons.

She said, “The men sounded like they were Hausas; they asked her if she was going to the house the ‘government had paid for them.’ I didn’t know how they knew that. Before my daughter could rush into a tricycle, these men forcefully took away some of her belongings and the food she was bringing for Ese and the baby.”

The Orurus said they reported the separate incidents to the Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, who then ordered that the security around the Officer’s Mess be beefed up.

The number of police officers guarding the premises has since reduced, the family said. “This is why I am even more afraid now.” the mother told our correspondent.

“With this incident, I am afraid anything can happen, and I don’t want any of my daughters to be kidnapped again,” Ese’s father, Charles, said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat, in a text message sent to our correspondent, said the state police command “had not received any report of threat to the family.”

The Executive Director, Kindling Hope Across Nations Initiative, Mr. Kizito Andah, said the police should act on the allegation.

KHAN Initiative had taken on Ese Oruru’s case and advocated for her release after they had been informed by a neighbour.

Following a SUNDAY PUNCH campaign on February 28 against her abduction, Ese, whose name had been changed to Aisha Chuwas, was eventually rescued by the police.

The teenager was on Tuesday, March 1, reunited with her mother in Abuja, and then with her family members in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, on Wednesday, March 2.

Mavins boss, Don Jazzy has finally opened up on his feud with YBNL’s Olamide, at the Headies early this year.
The music producer said that he reacted out of anger, as he is very emotional about his kids.

“I learnt a lesson about anger, I don’t really get angry like that. At that particular point, I was angry and emotional about my kids. You have to understand there’s no greater love than the love of a father for his children,”
Jazzy said

“I think that’s the way people should know the amount of love i have for whoever is working for me. Especially those three. I guess I was weak, I was upset, spoke out of tongue. I’m sorry to my fans that expected better from me.”

On how they both resolved the issue:
Don Jazzy disclosed “That’s the beauty about adults. In two seconds after saying all that I regretted my actions. I realised that he did too and we got along. We didn’t want it to escalate.”
