Politics / Ben Bruce Condemns Fellow Senators, Calls Them 'empty-headed' by ScooperOfficial: 11:13am On Jun 07, 2019

Outgoing senator of the 8th assembly, Ben Murray-Bruce, yesterday described his colleagues as a horde of empty-headed fellows, lacking the cleverness to sponsor and support bills that will drive growth and development in the country.

Bruce said the disposition and conduct of some of the senators made him think “they don’t make attempts to refresh their knowledge.”

His supposed vitriolic remarks follows successive rejection of his bills on phasing out petrol cars and granting entry without a visa to foreigners of Nigerian descent.

The lawmaker, in his valedictory speech on Thursday, had a chance to hit back at some of the legislators whom he suggested: “were making laws for the past.”

“Lawmakers make laws about the future and not the past. This is important for the Ninth Senate (to learn from). When you are a senator, you have to read and understand what happens in the world. Knowledge changes every six months. Whatever knowledge you have today, in six months’ time it becomes irrelevant.

“Some of the Bills I presented and were rejected made me think that some of us do not read. In the Ninth Senate it is important that you are up to date (with) modern technology and the realities of the world, because if you are, you do not make laws about yesterday but the future.

“I hope the next Senate will talk about (debate) green energy, electric cars, diaspora voting, laws that will help the economy, help the Executive.

“I want the Executive to know that the leadership of the Ninth Senate should be chosen by 109 members of the Senate and not the Executive,” he said.

By a proclamation issued by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, the life span of the Eighth Senate terminates on Saturday, June 8.

A new set of lawmakers will take charge from Tuesday, June 11.

Mr Murray-Bruce will not be returning to the Senate.

Politics / Why I've Been Appointing Women To Head Nigeria's Treasury Since 2015 – Buhari by ScooperOfficial: 2:59pm On Jun 06, 2019

Upon assumption of power in 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Kemi Adeosun as Minister of Finance but she resigned her appointment on September 14, 2018, after she was accused of forging her National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, certificate.

Following her resignation, Zainab Ahmed, who was before then the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, was appointed by Buhari as Adeosun’s replacement.

President Muhammadu Buhari has however disclosed why he entrusted the nation’s Ministry of Finance into the hands of women since 2015 when his government came on board.

He explained that women have been in charge of the country’s treasury since he came to power due to his trust in them.

Speaking while receiving representatives of Nigerian women on a Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, the President assured that he would give more recognition to women in his forthcoming cabinet.

He said: “I think the biggest trust any leader will entrust, whether, in a household, a town or a country is to give the treasury to the women. Since I came women are in charge of the treasury.

“So, I don’t think it is the number that matters, the fundamental thing is who holds the bag. Look at the treasury and look at the civil service. Even with this, you are still asking for more. In the spirit of Oliver Twist, we will watch out the numbers.”

In her remark, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration, Dr Hajo Sani, called on the President to consider more women in his new cabinet.

“We know you have us at the back of your heart and you know we have the women that are capable, women that have the potentials and women that will have value to your administration,” Sani said.

Politics / Buhari Blasts Nigerian Elites For Never Supporting Him by ScooperOfficial: 9:50am On May 28, 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari claims Nigerian elites have never supported his political ambition even as he thanked ordinary citizens for making him a leader.

Buhari said this during a special interview aired on the Nigerian Television Authority on Monday, May 27.

Explaining his claim, Buhari said the elites only supported candidates they believe will bend to their political and economic interests.

The president, however, credited ordinary citizens, saying they saw through this and chose him without any conditions.

He said: “They want to impress and they try to dictate the terms for government “I contested three times before I won the fourth time.

“The elite should thank the rest of other Nigerians who voted for him (me).

“People trooped out to see him on the campaign trail, which means that the elite had always been in the minority. “Nigerians understood me.”

Trying to shade some light on how he came to power, the president said he familiarised himself with every part of the country in his bid to become president.

He said: “There is no local government in Nigeria I have never visited between 2003 and now.”

Politics / May 29: Why Buhari Must Not Be Sworn In As President – Nnamdi Kanu by ScooperOfficial: 5:24pm On May 17, 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari doesn’t deserve to be sworn in for another term as Nigerian President on the 29th of May, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, said on Friday.

17937 Read: I Am A Professional KILLER! Asari Dokubo Boasts As He Threatens To Kill Nnamdi Kanu

In his new broadcast, Kanu called Buhari an impostor and a deceptive leader.

He cited the controversial issue of Buhari’s West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, saying the president never presented it before he was first elected.

Kanu said: “Jubril/Buhari has no basis to present himself to be sworn in on the 29th. That was why the impostor said education is no longer important.

“If truly no man is above the law and the Constitution of the land is supreme. If the constitution is supreme and is meant to guide the conduct of civilised men within a specifically defined geo-political area, then let me remind all the sophisticated morons in Nigeria that their constitution says every contender for the presidency must present a verifiable school certificate (WAEC) which neither the dead Buhari had nor his replacement Jubril ever did.

“Those that consider themselves as citizens of southern Nigeria has been butchered into fear and docility. I weep for the cowards but its their country, they can do whatever they like with it. Nigerians and certain individuals with Biafran names love slavery, we in IPOB don’t.

“How dumb are Nigerians and their miserable law enforcement and judiciary. When written laws are made not to apply differently to a section of populace like the Fulani, in the instance of Nigeria, then everybody is a fool. Why some people still pretend they don’t know what IPOB is fighting for is beyond me.

“I am afraid for the dwindling thinking capacity of your average miserable Nigerian. They can’t revolt, they can’t protest…..those that have the courage to protest are called all manner of unprintable names but they continue to suffer and complain but lack the courage to do anything about it.

“Until Biafra is completely set free, we shall continue to agitate because, to me, freedom means to be able to be yourself day in and day out. And not be punished for it. To live without mental, physical, emotional and spiritual shackles or constraints. And if I feel like my rights are being violated in any of those four realms, then I consider it a massive violation to my God-given right to live in freedom.”

Sharia Officers in Kano State Nigeria have briefly detained eighty (80) people purportedy eating in public as Ramadan fast continues.

The States Sharia Police also known as Hisbah "arrested the people at various times and places over the past few days", Hisbah's spokesman, Adamu Yahaya, has said.

Kano is one of about 12 Nigerian states that operate Sharia Law concurrently with the Nigeria's secular law since 2012 when it was re-introduced.

Yahaya told BBC that some of those arrested claimed they were eating because they did not sight the Ramadan crescent themselves while others feigned sickness, but the authorities found their excuses baseless.

He noted that they were admonished and released as they were ''first-time offenders."

He maintained that if they are caught the next time, they will be charged to court adding that the Hisbah's patrol continues throughout Ramadan in order to arrest Muslims who do not observe the fast

The Ramadan fast is compulsory for all adult Muslims but some categories of people - such as those who are seriously ill - are not required to fast.

The Ramadan 2019 fast started on Monday May 6 after the sighting of a new crescent. Over a period of 29 or 30 days, Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to sunset.

According to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the Federal Government can seize assets from citizens who cannot explain the source of their wealth.

50281 Read: I Warned Osinbajo About TraderMoni – Buhari Reveals

Osinbajo made this known, yesterday, while declaring the anti-corruption conference organised by the office of the vice president and Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, in Abuja.

He said: “The Supreme Court in a lead judgment of Akaahs JSC, recently held that forfeiture under Section 17 of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act is a civil process, which neither requires the criminal conviction of the property owner nor his innocence.

“This opens the door for forfeiture of assets that the purported owner cannot explain, whether or not an allegation of corruption is made.”

According to him, corruption has made Nigeria’s debt and poverty figures double, in spite of the highest oil revenues in Nigeria’s history He said the Buhari-administration was not deceived into thinking that it has won the battle against corruption as it was tackling grand corruption first.

He said: “By that, we mean the stealing of huge public resources directly from the treasury; usually at the highest levels of executive authority; and the stealing of budgeted funds through various schemes.

“We are now poised to deal with the wider problem of systemic corruption, especially where the average person interacts with government.

“Corruption in the issuance of contracts, licences and other government approvals; there is no reason any Nigerian should have to give bribe to law enforcement agents for obtaining drivers licences or passports or to clear goods at our ports.”

“All the relevant government agencies have shown a serious commitment to eradicating these forms of corruption. Our next level is to create the environment for collaboration among our agencies, civil society and other stakeholders,’’ the Vice president said.

He said the enforcement of treasury single account, TSA, the presidential initiative on continuous audit, and even ensuring that most civil servants were on the IPPIS electronic platform had helped greatly to control official theft of public funds.

In his remarks, PACAC chairman, Prof. Itse Sagay, said it was observed that information at the disposal of various intelligence units in the country was not shared in a systematic and pragmatic manner to assist the fight against corruption and other related national security threats.

Nigeria's President, Muhammadu Buhari has denounced the poverty level of the country saying it makes him deeply uncomfortable.

Noting that education has become a luxury to many Nigerians, Buhari condemned the brazen insensitivity of the elite to the plight of the less privileged ones in the country. “Culturally, some of us are quiet merciless, we don’t care about what happen to others we just keep on moving forward," he said.

While hosting top members of the executive cabinet including the Vice President, Prof. Yomi Osinbajo, Ministers, Service Chiefs, Heads of Security Agencies to a Ramadan fast breaking session (Iftar) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, this week, Buhari said the elite must take it upon themselves to complement the government's schemes targeted at eradicating poverty.

His words: “When I drive around the country what upset me very much is the status of our poor people in this country – you see young people, the so-called Almajiris with tore dresses, with plastic bowl. They are looking basically for what to eat.

“The question of education (to them) is a luxury. I think Nigerian elite we are all failing because I think we should have a programme that will at least guarantee some basic education for our people no matter how poor they are.

“So, I welcome the Vice-President initiate of the School feeding programme. If you check in your localities the enrolment into schools improved because a lot of children can get at least one good meal a day. This is the position of this country.

“But, culturally some of us are quiet merciless, we don’t care about what happen to others we just keep on moving forward.

“This `market money’ I warned the Vice-President I don’t like him to be mobbed, especially the way I see hefty women coming and confronting him, he should be very careful. “These are very good initiates. Initially, I was quite reluctant but I must admit that they are very good programmes and they endear this government to a lot of poor people because of these N5,000 or N10,000 being given to them as loans.

“They are fantastic programmes and I have to admit quite honestly that the Vice-President was ahead of me by insisting on them. “But he knows me if he insists I will say `okay go and do what you like.’ He did it and I’m very pleased as he is being very successful,’’ he said.

Monday night, President Muhammadu Buhari revealed that he issued a warning to his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, over his handling of Trader Moni disbursement.

President Buhari said he told Osinbajo to always stay safe to avoid being mobbed during Trader Moni disbursement in markets across Nigeria.

He disclosed this at the breaking of fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he hosted top government officials.

Buhari, who said he was upset with the level of poverty in the land, challenged the elite to do something very urgent to ameliorate the pathetic situation.

“When I drive around the country what upset me very much is the status of our poor people in this country – you see young people, the so-called Almajiris with tore dresses, with plastic bowl.

“But he knows me if he insists I will say `okay go and do what you like.’ He did it and I’m very pleased as he is being very successful,’’ he said.

Vice-President Osinbajo, who spoke on behalf of the members of the cabinet, said that regardless of ethnic and religion affiliations Nigerians must continue to be their brothers’ keepers and must work towards building a united nation.

On the Ramadan period, Osinbajo said: “Mr President I must say that there are some reasons I had always look forward to the Ramadan session. But some of those reasons are now being seriously challenged.

“The first of those reasons is that during the Ramadan meetings are usually very short. But, unfortunately last Wednesday Mr President seemed to have destroyed that very good notion by taking us through the longest FEC meeting in the history of the Federal Executive Council.

“So, we shouldn’t expect anymore that meeting will necessary be short during the Ramadan.

“The second is that some of my friends are far less troublesome during the Ramadan. People like Lai Mohammed, Abba Kyari, Adamu Adamu they are usually very well behaved during the Ramadan. But I’m not even sure that that is true anymore.

“So, I think that all we can truly expect now from the session is possibility what it was meant to do which is to remind us of some of our responsibilities to ourselves as brothers and to our fellow men/women especially our roles as leaders.

“I think is auspicious that this particular (end of) Ramadan falls at the eve of the new term in office.

“So, it is an opportunity for us to remind ourselves over the core mandates which is the welfare and security of majority of our people,’’ he said.

Zamfara Killings: In A Different Country, Defence Minister Dan-Ali Would Have Been Fired- Says Emir

Following allegations that traditional rulers in the state are aiding and abetting banditry which has unprecedentedly claimed many lives in the recent times, the Emir Of Zamfara, Dr Attahiru Ahmed said Defence Minister, Brig. Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali would have been fired for his false accusations.

The Chairman of the Zamfara state council of chiefs said if Brig. Gen. Dan-Ali was serious in combating the atrocities of criminal bandit groups in the Zamfara, he would have relocated back to the state since he hails from there himself (Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State).

In a heated interview granted The Punch over the weekend, the emir called on Northerners leaders not to overlook the "serious" allegations made against them by the Defence minister.

According to him, “It is very unfortunate for the defence minister to accuse us of aiding banditry. If it were in another country, the minister would have been fired because it is a very serious allegation. He said it was not only the traditional rulers in Zamfara that were aiding the bandits but even those in other parts of the North. But we kept quiet because he is our own. Go to his local government area and see what is happening. So, as a defence minister, he should have relocated there.”

Former Governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, has said Nigeria will never have peace even as he revealed why.

Nwobodo said peace will continue to elude Nigeria until somebody from the Igbo extraction is allowed to become president.

Speaking in Enugu yesterday at his 79th birthday event, Nwobodo said the South East must be allowed to produce Nigeria’s President 2023.

He lamented that the South East was being relegated in the country’s power equation.

The former governor warned that because Nigeria has failed to recognise justice and fairness, it would continue to lag behind in development.

He said: “Peace will always elude Nigeria because it has decided to pay lip service to justice and fairplay in its power equation.”

“Let the Igbo have their turn at the presidency and development will come; peace will come and you will have created room for development,” he stated.

Nwobodo also faulted the ongoing trial and suspension of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

He described Onnoghen’s trial and removal from office as a disgrace to the Nigerian judiciary.

The 2019 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has assured Nigerians that he would accept the verdict of the Presidential Election Tribunal on his petition challenging the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the election.

He gave the assurance while stating that he would not allow Nigeria to experience crisis or spilling of innocent blood in a bid to get justice.

Speaking through the spokesperson of his campaign organisation, Segun Sowunmi, the former Vice President said he was more interested in institutional reforms that would enhance national development.

Showunmi urged judicial officers of the tribunal to do what was expected of them by delivering judgement in line with their professional calling.

He said: “We hope and pray that the cankerworm, nepotism, corruption and lack of integrity that has eaten deep into the fabrics of this society would be caught.

“But it’s up to the courts to demonstrate that they are immune. And I think this election tribunal will do its work. People want to know how it will go, and of course, we don’t have a choice, we will accept the verdict of history, we will accept the verdict of the court.

“However, there is no way you can edge it, Atiku is already the winner of the 2019 presidential election in the minds of the people.

“For he is the leader of opposition now, Atiku is not going to be silenced with whatever the outcome will be.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Court of Appeal election Tribunal handling the case of the presidential election filed against his victory by Atiku Abubakar to first determine his preliminary objection seeking to dismiss the petition by the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate at the pre-hearing stage.

President Buhari’s lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), said the petition was made by his client on April 16.

Olanipekun said: “We filed our reply on 16th April 2019 and we also filed our motion including preliminary objections. We argued that the preliminary objection be set down for hearing during the pre-trial."

In the objection, the president asked the court to dismiss Atiku’s claim that he lacked the qualification to be president on the grounds that by virtue of Section 31(5) and (6) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended).

He said: “It is the Federal High Court or of a State that has jurisdiction to adjudicate on the grounds/complaints contained therein.”

The petition by President Buhari followed the suit was filed by Atiku against the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the 2019 presidential election.

In her reaction, the president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa warned against public comments which would publicly decide presidential petitions in the court and overheat the polity.

Bulkachuwa said: "We therefore require the maximum cooperation of all the stakeholders, especially from the leaders of the Bar. We expect the proceedings to be conducted with decorum, a high sense of responsibility, dedication, and patriotism in our quest to arrive at just decisions in all petitions before us."

Edward Pwajok, (Plateau-APC) who is the sponsor of the bill, had lamented that the dilemma women face in either choosing their state of indigeneship in official matters such as for the purposes of appointment or election.

This has prompted the House of Representatives to finally pass a bill enabling married Nigerian women to choose their state of origin.

The ‘Bill for an act to amend the Federal Character Commission (Establishment, etc) Act, 2010, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, Cap F7 to give married women the option of indigeneship and for related matters’ was passed at Tuesday 7th pf April's plenary session.

It would give married women the option of choosing the indigeneship of either their father or husband if passed into law.

Prior to the amendment, married women were considered indigenes of their husband’s state.

The amended section 2 now provides: “A married woman shall have the option to lay claim to her State or Local Government of origin for the purpose of implementation of the Federal Character Formulae at the National level or State as the case may be.”

Nairaland / General / Corruption Is Not Nigeria's Real Problem- House Speaker Dogara Insists by ScooperOfficial: 4:01pm On May 07, 2019

Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, on Tuesday said Nigeria’s real problem is lack of leadership and not corruption as widely claimed.

Dogara said this in Abuja at a conference tagged, "The Convergence 2.0: Leadership, Power and Politics for Democracy Renewal,” touted as “Nigeria’s largest gathering of elected young representatives,” organised by the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Movement.

The speaker said Nigeria was plagued by a lot of challenges, ranging from being ranked as the third most dangerous country of the world to terrorism, banditry, unemployment, and dearth of healthcare facilities, among others.

According to him, it is a clarion call of nation-building for the youths elected into parliament in the just-concluded elections to use their strength and population to fortify the nation.

“Nigeria’s real disease is lack of leadership; I disagree with all those who say our major national disease is financial corruption; rather, the real disease has been the absence of true leadership.

“This in turn breeds moral corruption and wickedness.

“Get a true leader that solves moral corruption and wickedness; when that happens, you will search for financial corruption to no avail.

“Unfortunately, the leadership model we have practised so far is the kind of leadership that produces sycophants who are expected to serve their political godfathers and not the people.

“Our so-called leaders have mastered the art of political witchcraft so much so that if you are independent minded, you are automatically disqualified.

TRENDING:54 People Die, Scores Suffered First-Degree Burns In South Sudan Wildfire

“If for any reason you are picked, then you have to surrender your soul for them to eat in small bites until you become their worshiper,’’ Dogara said.

He said that in the midst of “this pandemic sycophancy, the so-called godfathers expect the children to fit in and not to stand up to be counted or make a difference.’’

“For you, trailblazers who carry the burden and the promises of a generation that must not fail, if you are ever going to get there, it must be on the wings of discipline that produces character.

“This is because without character, you cannot be men and women of influence and without influence, you cannot change anything. Character means that you cannot be separated from your word — a quality no godfather in history has ever possessed.”

He urged them to practice an all-inclusive politics because politics means reaching out to all and not to lose sight of the long-term goal of representing their people, state and country.

Earlier, Ms Cynthia Mbamalu, one of the conveners of the Not-Young-To-Run Movement, said that after Not-Young-To-Run Bill became law, youths vied for elective positions en masse.

“Today, out of the 991 seats in the state houses of Assembly, over 200 will be occupied by young elected lawmakers.

“This is our democracy taking shape, because we cannot talk about democracy without inclusion; this is progress made for youth, for Nigeria, and this is hope which we hold on to.’’

Mbamalu, however, decried the dearth of females in elected positions and urged the young parliamentarians to change the narrative with legislation to empower women.

Politics / Kano Governor Ganduje To Remove Emir Of Kano Sanusi Lamido [here's Why] by ScooperOfficial: 10:27am On May 07, 2019

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has relaunched moves to remove Muhammad Sanusi II as the emir of Kano, TheCable reports.

On Monday, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission reopened investigation into the expenditure of the state emirate council under Sanusi II.

Also at Monday’s plenary of the house of assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the speaker, read a letter from one Ibrahim Salisu and others, seeking the creation of new Kano emirates in Karaye, Bichi, Rano and Gaya.

“The governor is determined to remove the emir, and if this does not succeed, he will break the emirate into pieces to whittle down Sanusi’s power,” an official of the state government, who asked not to be named, told TheCable on Monday evening.

Ironically, Ganjude’s move to break the emirate into smaller units will mirror what Abiola Ajimobi, the outgoing governor of Oyo state, did to the olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, whose authority Ajimobi sought to decimate by approving 21 beaded kings for Ibadan.

Ganjude and Ajimobi are in-laws.

FOREIGN TRIPS

Sanusi II’s problem with Ganduje is usually traced to his critical comments in 2017 on the award of contracts to Chinese companies by state government and the foreign trips of the governor.

Shortly after the comment, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission alleged the misappropriation of N6billion by the Kano emirate council “without the approval of the state government”.

The probe was halted then but it has now been revived.

Sanusi II is believed to have opposed the re-election of Ganjude, who needed a disputed supplementary election to be returned to office in the March 2019 governorship election.

In a letter dated May 2, 2019, the state anti-graft commission invited one Isa Bayero to appear before it to shed more light on the payment vouchers from 2013 to 2017 in his name.

EMIRATE’S FUNDS

Other officers in the emirate council to be quizzed, according to TheCable sources, include Mohammad Sani Kwaru, the accountant, Mannir Sanusi, the chief of staff, Danburan Mujittafa and Falakin Kano.

The letter said the commission was inviting the staff over alleged violation of section 26 of its enabling law in the management of the emirate’s funds.

The letter also stated that the invitation was sequel to the power conferred to it under “section 9 and 15 of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission Law 2008 (as amended).”

Sanusi II was appointed the 14th emir in 2014 after his suspension from office as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Ganduje was the deputy governor to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso when Sanusi II was appointed, but the former governor is no longer on good terms with his successor.

Kwankwaso supported his son-in-law, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, to challenge Ganduje, but the incumbent was returned with a score 1,033,695 — a mere difference of 8,982.

Ganjude lost the Kano municipal heavily, leading to rumours that he would come after the emir after the election.

JAMB has commenced the biometric verification of the candidates who sat for this year’s UTME, The Nation reports.

According to the news site, the exercise embarked upon by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) was responsible for the delay in the release of UTME results conducted from April 11 to April 18.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, confirmed the commencement of the exercise in an interview, yesterday in Abuja.

According to him, the board was cross-checking everything regarding the conduct of the examination, including fingerprints of candidates.

He said, “We are cross-checking everything, including fingers. If you know that you have about 1.8 candidates multiplied by ten that is the finger we are talking about.

“If you are very close to National Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC), ask them what it takes to analyse fingerprints in terms of period.

“We are combining 1.8 million ten fingers with one another to be sure that we identify people who combine fingers and so on. That is where we are now.

“We have done all other and now we have about six states to go. As I speak with you I am at a retreat with those who are doing it. We have about six states to go. We have done 31 states and six states are still not completed now.”

Politics / BOOM: Fani-kayode Blasts PDP, Talks About Supporting Buhari by ScooperOfficial: 10:12am On May 03, 2019

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has suggested the leaders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, and other opposition party leaders in Nigeria are ignoramus when it comes to playing opposition politics.

He has therefore asked them to understudy their counterparts in Venezuela and Sudan to get knowledge on how real opposition leaders are meant to play politics.

Venezuela, a country struggling with hunger and repression, has had sustained protest by the opposition in the country led by Juan Guaidó.

Only last April, opposition in Sudan apparently played a major role in the military ousting of the country’s former President, Omar al-Bashir, after a three-decade rule.

Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the PDP, who would want Nigeria’s opposition parties follow the path of those two countries, said in a tweet on his official Twitter handle:

“Go to Venezuela and Sudan and find out how real opposition leaders are meant to behave when faced with mass murder, genocide, ethnic cleansing, sit tight leaders, rigged elections, wholesale tyranny and barbarous and brutal injustice.

“The opposition in Nigeria has much to learn.”

PDP, which was thrown out of federal power in 2015, after leading the country for 16 years, remains Nigeria’s major opposition party.

Fani-Kayode has reacted to speculations making the rounds that he has dumped the PDP and declared support for President Muhammadu Buhari following the release of Zainab Aliyu, the Nigerian student detained in Saudi Arabia for alleged drug trafficking.

Fani-Kayode clarified that he was only ‘proud of Buhari’ for the timely release of the Nigerian student.

Reacting on his Twitter page on Friday, Fani-Kayode described the reports as ‘false’.

He tweeted, “Reports that I said I am “proud of Buhari” and that I have “dumped PDP” and “joined APC” are false.

“Those that are peddling such vile mendacities and perfidious falsehood are insane.
