Gbawe:

You must not understand how Nigeria works under "do-or-die" leaders like OBJ. If they want to take you down you must use the style Atiku deployed to survive when OBJ threw the kitchen sink at him i.e fight back with everything you have !!! If guys like Jonathan , using supreme executive power and under the tutelage of OBJ, are trying to take you down , then you must go down fighting . Obi tried the same gentleman's approach of dialogue and respectful engagement with OBJ yet our former President ensured he was impeached to clear the way for his annointed son Andy Uba. Guys like ONJ have no qualms ignoring the will of the electorate to plant ruinous usurpers eveywhere. Jonathan has now transmuted into OBJ . Those who are genuinely popular like Ameachi must use the power of the people to resist dictatorship that wan't t keep Nigeria underdeveloped for the benefit of a few.

Gbawe, all you do is blast anybody from the south when there are HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF ADOLF HITLERS, SADDAM HUSSEIN AND MANY DEMONS LIKE IBB, i just dont know why you seems to hate us. LETS BE FRANK, WITHOUT JONATHANS SOUTH SOUTH AND SOUTH, NIGERIA WILL JUST BE ANOTHER CHAD REPUBLIC BECAUSE THE NORTH CONSUMES A LOT YET PRODUCE nothing INTO THE ECONOMY

[Plotting tactics: Babangida and first son, Mohammed. Photo: Ishaq Nata Ala.] The News - Retired Colonel Gabriel Ajayi, a lawyer, who was tried, jailed (but later pardoned) for a phantom coup by the late General Sani Abacha regime, says General Ibrahim Babangida, having ruled the country as military president for eight years, is disqualified from contesting.
“During the military regime, there was constitution. The military did not operate martial law in Nigeria. If you go back to the speech of General Ironsi on 16 January, 1966, he said ‘suspension of certain parts of the constitution’. He also talked about the suspension of the provision of the constitution of the federation of Nigeria, relating to the office of the President [and] the establishment of the office of the Prime Minister. And subsequent military heads-of-state always re-echoed the suspension of the constitution and modification, not abolition of the constitution.

“So if the constitution had been abolished, there would have been no court, we would have been ruled by military courts and tribunals. It means every other institution of government has to be re-enacted by decree. But the military regime was on, all the institutions of government established by the constitution were in place.

“During IBB’s period, the presidency was there, the judiciary was there, and what would have been the legislative arm was the Armed Forces Ruling Council. So all that happened were a little suspension, a little modification here and there and those people who wore uniforms were Nigerians and not from the terrestrial race. So you cannot say the period of their governance is not reckonable in Nigerian history. It was a particular time in Nigerian history that somebody was in power and therefore there can be no technicality about somebody being military and some being civilians. If Tinubu can spend eight years and you say he is now disqualified, is it because General Babangida wore uniform? Is he no longer a Nigerian? Again, if the tenure was not recognised, why should they put it in the constitution that they are members of the Council of State? Till today they hold meetings. So it is not necessary that somebody has to be there by election.

“Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was not voted in as President of Nigeria. The Constitution of 1963 says that it is assumed that President Nnamdi Azikiwe has been elected as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He did not go through the Electoral College which was the process put in the constitution at that time.

“So, the only condition I can say that IBB can take another eight years is for the National Assembly to pass a law to void the period of military rule and say it never existed in Nigeria. If you say he can still come into power, then what stops another General from picking the rifle and spending eight years and then coming around to say he is going for democracy? Let us be serious in this country. It is not right to bring technicalities into it.

“Right from General Ironsi to Sani Abacha, none of them in their speeches said they were abolishing the constitution.

“IBB operated like any other Nigerian, but what he did that we did not like was the annulment of the 12 June, 1993 presidential election. He was the military Head of State and the buck stopped at his table. So in the Army where you say the Commander is always right, for him to now turn round and say some people pressurised him, when it is assumed he was supposed to be right at all times, was very wrong. While he was there he did not perform better than any other leader the country has got.

“The 12 June struggle was what brought me down till today and IBB was solely responsible. Today, I am having diabetes, stomach and eye problems from the torture I received from the Abacha regime. If 12 June had not been annulled, I would not have this problem. Today, I am using my pension for medical solutions. I am completely down and naked because of 12 June, 1993. Many other people have died while some have been destroyed because of this case. That is the main albatross on his neck. I don’t believe he has the constitutional right to contest.

“If he becomes president, who would be his Abacha? Who would be his General Dogonyaro in the new system? Won’t he have those people around him again? We have to be sincere in this country.”

Politics / Dokpesi Tragic Turn, How Financial Embarrassement Forced Him To Campaign For Ibb by seanet03: 8:06pm On Aug 31, 2010
Dokpesi's Tragic Turn
Saharareporters.com

In a bizarre and rambling text message, CEO of Africa Independent Television (AIT) Raymond Dokpesi, announced that he had accepted an offer to be the executive director of the sagging Ibrahim Babangida presidential campaign.

Dokpesi rambled on in his text message to close associates why his new assignment was necessary and why his new boss should be forgiven and given another chance to rule Nigeria.

He then signed off by apologizing to those the former military dictator might have offended, claiming that those decisions were collectively taken by the military.

Although Dokpesi’s acceptance of the leadership of IBB’s crumbling campaign might have shocked some of his friends, Saharareporters has learnt that the so-called “double chief,” who referred to himself as “Ezomo of Weppano kingdom” in the text message, was available to the highest bidder as the fortunes of his media empire had dipped on account of his personal mismanagement and extravagance.

Dokpesi runs the DAAR Group media concerns in several cities across Nigeria, but it is a well-known fact that he has not paid his workers in at least 10 months.

Recently after Saharareporters exposed his anti-labour practices and hostile work place behavior, Dokpesi broke up AIT into semi-autonomous units known as "Special Business Units" and claimed that all staffers would be paid their current salaries and backlog through the SBUs, but apart from the AIT SBU managed by his wife, Tosin, none of the SBUs have paid the staff more than two months in 2010. The backlogs remain unpaid.

Sources told Saharareporters that Dokpesi’s about-face against current president, Goodluck Jonathan, happened for two reasons.

The first is that he found out that despite the public grandstanding, most of the state governors claiming to be in support of Jonathan for the next elections are not really behind him. In fact, in the Southern political block which Jonathan hails from, only the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio, can currently be counted as a true supporter of Jonathan. The rest of them are just playing along with the Jonathan team because they do not want Jonathan to set the EFCC upon them.

The second reason is that Dopkesi was reportedly miffed by Jonathan's refusal to pay him a bogus bill he presented to the federal government for purportedly covering the Under-17 football fiesta that took place in Nigeria in 2009. Saharareporters had reported that Dokpesi's sudden embrace of the Save Nigeria Group is motivated by selfishness as it has to do with his desire to get paid for the job he did not do.

In 2009, while Nigeria was about to host the under-17th FIFA soccer fiesta, Dokpesi sent out a glossy proposal to the federal government of Umaru Yar'Adua. The document, titled "DAAR-FIFA HOST BROADCASTER BUDGET presentation," outlined the breakdown of Dokpesi's DAAR communication capability to broadcast the world cup on behalf of FIFA and Nigeria.

However, knowledgeable sources told Saharareporters that despite his pompous presentation of the N5 billion proposal, DAAR communication lacked the capacity to broadcast most of the matches live. It was going to rely on the facilities of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to carry out its part of the bargain, for which FIFA officials already paid DAAR communication.

Soon as the under-17 World cup was concluded, Dokpesi began visiting Yar'Adua to demand payment for the FIFA-AIT broadcast, but the chair of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, Mr. Yomi Bolarinwa, told the presidency the truth about what happened, his advice and full briefing led the late Yar'adua not to approve the payments Dokpesi requested. But Dokpesi went and procured the help of Mr. Jonathan, who was then the Vice President and chair of the local organizing committee of the Under-17 fiesta to prevail on Yar'Adua to approve his bogus payment.

It was not a surprise that Dokpesi provided the expansive conference rooms of his offices for the Save Nigeria Group as they held series of meetings to fight the Yar'Adua cabal. Dokpesi also attended the meeting Jonathan with the group.

Prior to the FIFA money debacle, Dokpesi had flirted with the Yar'Adua regime over the planned demolition of his DAAR Group headquarters in Abuja by the Obasanjo regime. Although the new government wanted to correct some of the vindictive policies of the Obasanjo regime, it soon found out that Chief Dokpesi was in possession of large swathes of prime properties in Abuja that he had illegally or fraudulently acquired. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory was asked to enter into negotiations with him so as to prevent the seizure of his illegally acquired land and fraudulently built structures which reportedly violated the Abuja masterplan.

It is not known why Jonathan refused to pay off Dokpesi for bogus billing which he had submitted to scam the federal government as about three committees has already been set up to reconcile the accounts submitted by Dokpesi and those of FIFA. A presidency source told Saharareporters that Jonathan has always known that Dokpesi was rooting for Babangida and he delayed the payments because there was nothing to show that AIT did anything for the federal government after several committees looked into his claims.

Knowing that Jonathan was reluctant, Dokpesi was soon to jump from the ship of the Save Nigeria Group as Jonathan did not give the group further attention or audience. Dokpesi quickly sought a spot on another delegation of South-South leaders that met with Jonathan to greet him as the new president. He pressed for the payments, but a delay in realizing his payday again led him to jump ship, according to sources.

Other sources close to Babangida and Dokpesi told Saharareporters that Dopkesi’s “financial success” earlier in life was attributable to the shady dealings that characterized the Babangida years which made billionaires of cronies and errand boys that helped Babangida kill, maim, and milk Nigeria dry until he was finally chased out in 1993 after he annulled the now famous June 12 elections.

Anxious staffers of Mr. Dokpesi are genuinely worried about his shameless decision to work for Babangida, especially as his television station is likely to suffer the consequences owing to the unpopular nature of his chosen candidate. Last week, young people opposed to Babangida began a boycott campaign on Facebook and the earlier assurance Dokpesi gave his staff evaporated when the presenter of one of AIT's most popular program "Focus Nigeria", Mr. Gbenga Aruleba, almost tearfully announced that his 30 minute spot had been replaced by a special program sponsored by Babangida.

With people like this who cant stand opposing political voice as future leaders of this country? The future is doom!

Politics / Jonathnas Campaign Theme Is "never Again To Ibb" by seanet03: 7:41pm On Aug 31, 2010
Jonathan's Campaign Theme Is: "Never Again!"

President Goodluck Jonathan, in denying that he had appealed to former dictator, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, to withdraw from the 2011 presidential race, indicated that his horse whip for the Evil Genius would be to remind him of the callous annulment of June 12 elections 17 years ago with the popular theme: "Never Again, Babangida."

President Jonathan rebuked Babangida: “Since June 12, 1993, Nigerians have in successive elections become wiser. The next presidential elections, no matter who the candidates are, would sound a resonant Never Again!

“Never again shall the will of the Nigerian people be quashed underfoot by the vaunting ambitions of a few. This is what the President has promised Nigerians, and he is fully committed to delivering on this pledge.

Some national dailies had in their reports on Monday that Jonathan made the appeal at a recent meeting with Babangida. The reports also said the former miltary leader refused to accede to the President’s request. But the Presidency, in a statement by the the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ima Niboro, said the reports were “unfortunate and uncharitable.”

Although Niboro admitted that a meeting between Jonathan and Babangida took place, he explained that it (meeting) was one in a series of consultations the President has had and would continue to hold with Nigeria’s former leaders over the 2011 elections.

The statement reads, “Anyone who has even a passing acquaintance with the President knows he is not one who dissuades people from pursuing their personal ambitions.

“This is even more so when there is no purpose to be served by it, since the long suffering mass of the Nigerian people would decide who governs them in a free and fair election.

“It is, therefore, unfortunate that any self- respecting newspaper(s) should lend its pages to reporting a series of lies against the person and the institution of the presidency.

“These tales are unverified and sourced from openly interested parties. They are lies, pure and simple. The fact is that President Jonathan has been meeting different leaders on different occasions and platforms.

“Some have come to inform him of their intention to run for the presidency. Others he has met with as a matter of courtesy being a sitting President.

“He has met former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar; he has met Babangida; he has met Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, and will meet him again soon.

“He has met with a former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; another former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari; a former Vice- President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, and another former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar.

“He will meet with even more leaders and political actors as the race to 2011 heats up. It is extremely uncharitable for anyone to spin these meetings in such negative lights, and attempt to force the President into retreat from these well- thought out engagements with political leaders of all hue and disposition in the interest of the country.

“We think it is time to put an end to this long line of false stories and verify what is served to the general public.”
