Travel / Did Nigerian Girls Also JAPA With The Hookup Trend To The UK? by OboOlora(f): 10:19am On Jun 10
I have been living in London for over 6years but never been to this Nigerian restaurant.

'Demo, make we go chop for this new place for Orpington. Heard their amala and gbegiri is mad fam' my friend said.

As omo ogbon, I quickly had my bathe, wore a lovely versace shirt on a nameless pair of jeans from Primark and my jordans to complete the roadman (but with a touch of finesse) look.

My friend picked me up in his 2023 GLB and off we went to this place.

Cut long story short, we sha entered, got seated, made our orders and just silently chatted away while we stylishly observed around while Nigerians in there made noise and nodded to the tune of Burna playing in the background.

Then something caught my attention, a lady in puffer jacket (sign that showed she came with public transport) sat beside a guy (assumably her BF) but consistently stared in our direction. I jerked my friend and he also noticed.

Ok, no time to check time. Amala sha came and we started eating with poise while checking our phones and still catching some glimpse of the 'open admirer'. As we were going to order take away, her assumed BF stood up to go to the restroom and alas, she stood up, came to my seat and dropped a piece of paper.

I quickly hid it beside the glass of water in my front and watched her waltz back to her seat casually while I used the opportunity to also assess her backside (shey omo yi le gba doggy bi Bolanle Peckham).

We paid and left for our usual lounge in Old Kent road to step down the amala with some cold lager and that was when I had the chance to check the note and it read, 'U LOOK SO CUTE, CALL ME 07458******* (Mide).

'Oh wow, baba. U don hit jackpot o. Omo yen ma sha e bajebaje' my friend said. I just smiled sheepishly like an army general who just saw a civilian in camo.

After all the calls and chats, we sha agreed to have lunch at a McDonalds close to her house. NJi story ba bere eyin fans mi.

This girl began to narrate how she came here on student visa. Borrowed money to pay school fees, accommodation issues, now staying with a guy that uses her as a sex machine etc.

Oya pele baby, but man here ain't got any better plans for you, you know.

Having framed empathy (with plenty eiyahs like Nigerians like to hear), I told her to follow me to finish the conversation and also drop her off.
'Ha Noooooo, you can't drop me off. The guy I stay with is very jealous and I don't want him to chase me out except you can house me if he does' She said. No baby, no housing option here, but sare gbe oko mi senu my dear.

'U know I don't do this on a normal day but I just like u as a person' She said.
'Me too, but pls make sure you swallow' I responded.

We sha finished and I just gave her £30 cos I was moved by her story.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Now this is just one of numerous stories I have experienced and heard in the last 2/3years especially with this post-pandemic JAPA crew.
Is it because most of them relocated as the 1st travel experience?
Is it because the weather is so cold people can't stay sexless?
Is it because they are broke and almost jobless?
Or is it just another hookup pandemic being brought from Nigeria to UK?

Hi,

I don't know if it's just me, but the AC in my Honda Accord 2013 doesn't chill as much as I hoped it will.

It's quite OK when the weather is cool like early in the day or late at night, but in the afternoon, you barely feel its coolness.

Any idea what could be responsible? I'd already topped the gas, and yet, it's the same.

Also, the recirculation button doesn't work. I was told I needed to change the control panel, but when we tried some other replacements, it still didn't work

First of all It isn't advisable you top up gas,the best is to drain all the gas in the system and refill properly.

You are mostly likely having refrigerant issue, pls go and refill the gas in your car properly.
Pls make sure they refill the system base on manufacture prescription. Your car will take atleast 500/550 gram of gas.

Properties / Re: Simple Way To Determine Painting Charges. by redgem(f): 9:12am On Jun 10

Generally premium emulsion is the cheapest paint that is durable. The budget grades are meant to be applied more frequently, especially in places that is exposed to weather.
Some companies make budget paints and have the market. Some brands deal on premium grades only and that is the reason some brands are like twice or thrice the price of some brands.
If you care about budget friendly and aesthetics, you may use matte emulsion for flatness, low sheen and cleanable.
If you care about durability only, you may use premium emulsion.
If budget is not in consideration bearing in mind screeding is usually done in preparation for using high sheen paint, then satin can be used for internal and matte for external.
For unscreeded wall, premium emulsion is ideal for durability.

seborrhic:
So why doesn't the US where houses are annually flooded due to torrential rains and severe weather events with some houses even carried away, resort to demolition of the flooded houses as the only solution?
Houses flooded, solution is demolition of such houses;thunder strikes or rains, not even heavy rains falls, solution is to immediately cut off power supply in Nigeria!

The answer is simple - because there is no encroachment. Nigerians encroaches beyond their approval....and you know it. A plot that is supposed to house a 3 bedroom and leave space for parking and recreation will build on every part of the land including a portion of the road in front of him - All trees cut down, no greenery to provide protection for the ground during flood. The US that you make reference to, all rules and regulations are adhered to strictly.
If powers are not cut in Nigeria during thunder strike, the risk of fire, electrical hazards are so high. How many of your houses have thunder protection? How many of your house has standard electrification? How many of your house uses standard wires and cables? Well you won't know those things are part of your responsibility to ensure and responsibility of government to protec...I doubt if you even know such things exist.

Nairaland / General / Trusted Brick Repair Experts: Enhance Your Home's Structural Stability by Sydneycitytuck: 6:33pm On Jun 09
Taking care of your home's structure isn't just for looks; it's also for safety and ensuring the property lasts as long as possible. As one of the most important parts of home upkeep, brickwork is often discussed. Being outside in the weather for a long time can break down bricks and mortar, making your home less stable. In these situations, it's very important to rely on the knowledge of reliable brick repair experts. This article goes into detail about how bricks break down, why Tuckpointing Sydney is an important way to fix them, why it's important to get a professional to look at them and give you advice, how precise and skilled the repair work needs to be, and the long-term benefits of hiring a professional to fix your bricks.

Signs of Brick Deterioration

To stop bricks from falling apart, you must first be able to spot the signs. Cracks running across the surface, crumbling mortar joints, and bricks not lined up straight are all common signs. These problems not only make your home look bad, but they also mean problems with the structure underneath. If you don't pay attention to these warning signs, they could worsen and put your property at risk. To lower the risks, homeowners must do regular inspections, and experts must act quickly when needed.

Importance of Tuckpointing

Tuckpointing is a tried-and-true way to fix broken bricks. This careful process includes removing old mortar from the joints and putting it in place. The attention to detail that makes tuckpointing stand out is that the new mortar is carefully matched to the colour and texture of the old mortar. This makes sure that it fits in perfectly with the bricks around it. Besides making the building look better, tuckpointing Sydney strengthens it by giving the bricks the support they need, stopping further decay, and making the wall last longer.

Evaluation and Advice from Professionals

There is no one way to fix bricks that works for everyone. Each property has problems, and a correct estimate is necessary to develop good repair plans. Trustworthy brick repair experts start by doing a full inspection of the brickwork, checking for things like moisture exposure, structural integrity, and the state of the mortar. This evaluation is the basis for making repair plans unique to the property and its needs. Professionals tuckpointing Sydney also offer helpful advice, walking homes through the repair process and giving them ideas on avoiding problems in the first place.

Care and Skill in Repair Work

When fixing bricks, especially with tuckpointing methods, you must be very careful and skilled. Professionals with the right skills can do repairs with great care and attention to detail. Every step of the repair process needs skill, from picking the right mortar mix to ensuring the joint shapes are identical. Tuckpointing in Sydney professionals also use special tools and methods to get the best results while causing the least damage to the bricks around them. The detailed and skilled work that goes into repairs not only makes the house safer but also makes it look better.

Long-Term Benefits and Peace of Mind

There are many long-term benefits to hiring a contractor to fix your bricks. By fixing the problems at their roots and strengthening the bricks, homeowners can rest easy knowing that their property is safe from further damage. To top it all off, skilled repairs raise the home's curb appeal and resale value, so they're a good investment in the long run. Also, keeping up with upkeep and repairs can make the brickwork last longer, so you won't have to pay as much for replacements in the future.

Conclusion

In conclusion, putting care of your home's brickwork at the top of your list of priorities is important for keeping it in good shape and looking good. Brick repair professionals you can trust offer specialised services, such as tuckpointing, to stop bricks from falling apart and make your home last longer. These Tuckpointing in Sydney professionals do a lot to keep your home looking nice and stable for years. They do careful inspections and repairs with great care.

Now you are talking ...

Living abroad doesn't automatically means u are rich like Otedola and Dangote instead u will still live within your means .

Job is different form job meaning the pay will differ from one another ..

Those with good pay will flourish well to send good cash back home but those with small pay that even struggle to pay rent too dey where if they want to send money home is a very difficult task ...

So my brother the grass is not really greener elsewhere .

You can ask we have beggar here in UK we also have IK citizens that can't afford rent that sleep in the cold weather etc .

So make favour just find us anywhere we dey 🙏

A beggar in the UK has greater life expectancy to an average rich person in Nigeria. This should solidify my argument, else I have nothing to say to you!

By the way, the minimum wage pay in the UK should be able to afford a worker a decent payment plan for a home. The idea of living is to afford the basic living conditions of life which was outlined in my post earlier which the UK is able to afford.

Nigeria haven’t met its basic living conditions for the rich nor for the poor! If they have, why are the rich Nigerians going abroad for healthcare? Education?

When there is data to back up an idea. You can’t view in different directions! Being abroad cannot be compared to living in Nigeria. Even the extremely rich in Nigeria knows this! Let’s just stop these banter before it degerates into something else!

What We Pay Monthly Here Is Higher Than Our Annual Rent In Nigeria’

Nigerians who recently relocated to the United Kingdom (UK) have listed accommodation as the major challenge they are facing in the country.

Other challenges those who spoke with our correspondent listed are getting Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) which will enable them extend their stay, lack of social life and low chances of getting professional jobs which match their qualifications.

Aside that, those who spoke with TheScrutinyNG said “the decision to leave Nigeria for UK, though stressful and financially demanding was worth it, especially when you consider good governance, the quality of life, healthcare, electricity and good start in life for children”.

Ayomide, a mother of two and her husband moved to the UK in January 2023. According to her, they sold their property in Lagos and used the money to finance her schooling and family relocation to Kent in UK.

“It was tough when we arrived. We first stayed in a hotel for few days while looking for accommodation. My husband was frustrated as he was converting naira to buy pounds. After a while, we got an AirbnB apartment where we stayed for two months. Most two bedroom apartments we got, rejected our application because they said my son is 11 and needs to have a separate room. They said he can’t share same room with my daughter”

“After we managed to get a two bedroom apartment, they were asking us to get a guarantor and filled some forms before signing the contract. It was a long, arduous process but eventually we concluded and we have settled down to some extent”.

Benjamin Onwe relocated to UK with his wife and three children in September 2023. According to him, he was paying N1.5m as annual rent for a four-bedroom apartment in Surulere area of Lagos.

He said ” Accommodation is a major challenge here in UK. I stay in Plaistow and a three bedroom apartment here ranges between £1,500 to £2,500 monthly . When you convert £1,500 to naira at the current exchange rate on Lemfi, that amounts to N2.7m. So, what we are paying here monthly is higher than our annual rent in Nigeria. Then we also have to furnish the apartment and pay other bills. It was tough but the sacrifice is worth it” he said.

BATTLE WITH MOULD

Another major problem accommodation seekers encounter in UK is houses with mould issues.
Mould is a type of fungus that can grow on walls, ceilings, and floors. It’s often found in damp or leaky buildings, which can lead to respiratory problems some people. Roughly 1 in 5 homes in the UK suffer with condensation damp – the biggest catalyst for mould growth.

Narrating her experience, Alero a single lady who just secured a job in London said she got an apartment in January and started experiencing mould issues in March. She said the mould spread everywhere and attempts to get rid of it through cleaning and usage of chemicals didn’t work.

” After enduring for three months, I wrote to the agency through whom I got the house and asked that they give me a better apartment or refund. They refused and said nothing can be done as I have signed a one year contract which is binding”.

” After seeking professional advice from people, I was told to take pictures of the apartment and report them to the council. That was when they agreed that I can leave. I think the mould is always severe during winter when everywhere is cold. So, someone who got an apartment during summer when the weather is hot may not really know if the house has mould issues or not”.

As a means of reducing pressures on accommodation, transportation, healthcare, public schools and other facilities due to immigration into the country, the UK government, through its Home Office has put in place a law that prohibits Nigerian students, and others studying in the country from bringing family as dependents except under specific circumstances.

Last month, a report by Guardian UK says the number of people being made homeless jumped by 16% in the final three months of 2023, according to the latest government figures, which laid bare the scale of the country’s housing crisis.

“Figures published by the government on Tuesday show nearly 45,000 households in England were assessed as homeless in the three months to December, up from just under 39,000 during the same period in 2022”.

“The figures also show the number of people – including children – in temporary accommodation hit record levels in 2023, triggering warnings of a housing “emergency”.

Mike Amesbury, the shadow minister for homelessness, said: “These stats reveal a growing Tory housing emergency being felt by families in every part of the country. Over the past 14 years, the Tories have taken a wrecking ball to the foundation of a secure home, leaving Britain facing a homelessness epidemic.

“Under this government’s watch, kids are growing up in temporary accommodation, coming home from school to do their homework on the bathroom floor of a hotel room and eating dinner perched on their bed.
