Politics / Forex: MTN, Glo, Others Seek NCC Nod For Tariff Hike by adenigga(m): 5:27am On Apr 26
Telecommunications operators in the country including MTN Nigeria and Globacom have asked for Federal Government approval through the Nigerian Communications Commission to raise their tariff.

The development came after foreign exchange losses and rising energy costs forced some of the operators to post losses last year.

The telcos’ proposal to raise their tariff came barely 24 hours after MultiChoice, a South African pay television company raised its tariff. Several companies including Discos and brewing companies have also raised their prices in recent times.

On Thursday, the telcos, under the aegis of the Association of Licensed Telecom Companies of Nigeria and the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria, issued a joint statement asking the government to expedite the approval.

The two bodies in their statement explained, “Despite the adverse economic headwinds, the telecommunications industry remains the only industry yet to review its general service pricing framework upward in the last 11 years, primarily due to regulatory constraints.

“For a fully liberalised and deregulated sector, the current price control mechanism, which is not aligned with economic realities, threatens the industry’s sustainability and can erode investors’ confidence.”

The associations called on the federal government to facilitate a constructive dialogue with industry stakeholders to address pricing challenges and establish a framework that balances consumers’ affordability with operators’ financial viability.

The telecom industry appears to be among a few sectors that have yet to review their prices despite the rising inflation in the country amid other economic challenges. They blamed this on the regulatory restraints that have been preventing them from pricing appropriately.

Efforts to reach the commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Mouka, on whether the request will be considered proved abortive as of press time on Thursday. There were no responses to calls, WhatsApp messages, and text messages sent to his line.

The NCC regulates prices in the telecom industry, and telecom operators are not allowed to implement any price changes without the regulator’s approval. The regulator has said a cost-based study is being conducted to determine if it would approve price increments for the operators.

The Chairman, Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria, Gbenga Adebayo, said in a publication on Thursday that cost reflective tariff was non-negotiable.

“We have seen the impact of price control in other segments of the economy, like power. If providers cannot operate sustainable business models, then they’ll stop investing. When that happens, the existing infrastructure starts to crumble.

“For power, a consumer can choose to take ownership of the solution by buying a generator, or a solar panel. For fuel, the government can step in as a provider of the last resort and manage a subsidy regime that mitigates the impact on the population. Those options are not available in the telecoms sector. There is no self-help solution,” he explained.

The industry has faced significant increases in operational costs occasioned by the scarcity of foreign exchange, network expansion, and upgrades, which have also negatively affected the bottom lines of the operators.

Investment in the sector has also dwindled to $134m in 2023 from $456.8m in the previous year, a decline of $322m, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The decline represented a decrease of approximately 70.5 per cent.

MTN Nigeria Plc has disclosed a substantial loss of N740.4bn for the fiscal year 2023, a notable surge from the N81.8bn loss reported in 2022, marking an alarming 804 per cent increase, equivalent to N658.6bn.

This drastic financial setback is primarily attributed to the effects of the foreign exchange market liberalisation that commenced in June of the previous year.

MTN clarified that it applied an official exchange rate of N907.11 per dollar, based on NAFEM (Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market), as of December 31, 2023.

This implies that the reported loss might escalate further if the prevailing exchange rate between the naira and dollar remains unchanged by the end of March, coinciding with the publication of its Q1 results.

Meanwhile, Airtel Africa reported a 99.6 per cent decline in its post-tax profit to $2m at the end of the nine months ended December 2023 from $523m at the end of the same period in 2022.

The key driver behind these losses was the liberalization of the forex market in June 2023, which led to a 96.7 per cent devaluation of the naira from N461 per dollar in December 2022 to N907.1 per dollar by the end of 2023, MTN disclosed in its audited financial results for 2023.

Telcos threaten
Speaking with The PUNCH, the President of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria, Tony Izuagbe, explained that telcos are running at a loss and may not survive this year should tariffs remain the same.

Izuagbe warned that if urgent action is not taken, many telecom operators may be forced to shut down operations, leaving millions of Nigerians without access to vital communication services.

He emphasised that the current tariff regime is insufficient to cover the costs of providing services, and urged regulatory bodies to address the industry’s challenges and support operators in maintaining the quality of service.

The current price of diesel, ranging from N1300 to N1500 per litre, has placed a substantial financial burden on operators, who consume an average of 2000 to 3000 litres per month per base station, Izuagbe analysed.

In 2023, telecommunication companies spent about N429.43bn on diesel for base stations, an increase of 34.57 per cent from the N319.11bn they spent in 2022. This is because diesel prices soared in 2022 and remained at an elevated level in 2023.

In 2022, the telecoms industry noted, “The telecommunications industry has been heavily financially impacted following Nigeria’s economic recession in 2020 and the effect of the ongoing Ukraine/Russia crisis. This has increased energy costs, (which constitutes an appreciable 35 per cent of ALTON’s members’ operating expenses).”

Telcos use an average of 40 million litres of diesel per month to power telecom sites.

ATCON President expounded, “We all know the challenges of inflation, which is affecting operators. Let’s take a typical diesel price, for example, which is sold at N1500 per litre or even N1300. On average, a typical base station would use about 2000–3000 litres in a month.”

Analysing further, he stated, “The cost per gigabyte of data in Nigeria is about N250. by the time you look at the expenses incurred in maintaining a base station, you will discover that revenue will not be enough to cover them.

“This excludes colocation and infrastructure services. by the time they mark up their charges, the operators will also be suffering.”

He revealed that many operators were already cutting back on infrastructure investments to mitigate losses and warned that if drastic measures are not taken, many may not survive the year.

Izuagbe acknowledged that the NCC has been working to address some of the challenges facing the industry, but emphasized that more needs to be done to ensure the survival of telecom operators.

He described the situation as a “chicken and egg scenario,” where it is difficult to improve the quality of service when operators are struggling to survive.

He urged the NCC to take further action to address the challenges facing the industry, including the issue of compensation for damaged infrastructure, to ensure that telecom operators can provide the quality of service that Nigerians deserve.

A commission official, speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the issue, conveyed that the operators were left with no choice but to seek a tariff review approval from the commission. However, such approval might not be granted due to the prevailing high cost of living.

The official said, “Telecommunications cannot do anything without the commission’s permission. There can’t be any increment in cost without regulatory approval. That is what the law says. They can only keep agitating. The telecommunications sector is unlike other sectors that can increase their prices at any time without notice or recourse.”

Subscribers, economists back telcos

Subscribers and economists who spoke with The PUNCH backed the move by telecom operators to increase tariffs to stay afloat.

As of March 2024, industry statistics obtained from the NCC website showed that there are at least 219 million subscribers.
The President of the National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers, Adeolu Ogunbanjo, called for a marginal increase in tariff prices.

According to Ogunbanjo, the increase is necessary to help operators offset the rising cost of operations, including the purchase of equipment in dollars, which has been affected by the fluctuating exchange rate, and the removal of fuel subsidies, which has led to an increase in the price of diesel used to power base stations.

The NATCOM president acknowledged that telecom companies were facing significant challenges, including the need to improve services, deploy infrastructure, and power their base stations.

He noted that a slight increase in tariff prices would not be detrimental to subscribers but would rather help operators continue providing services and investing in infrastructure.

A slight increase in tariff prices would not be detrimental to subscribers but would rather help operators continue providing services and investing in infrastructure, Ogunbanjo pinpointed.

“A slight increase will not be bad so as not to suffocate the operators. They need to improve services, they need to deploy infrastructure, and it will be difficult if the situation doesn’t improve. They have to continue to power their base stations. Recently, they had issues with the undersea cable. All these issues have compounded their woes,” he buttressed.

Professor of Economics at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Sheriffdeen Tella, told The PUNCH that the move was long overdue.
The cost of operation for telecom operators has increased significantly, making it difficult for them to sustain their businesses, the academic stated.

“When I see the cost of sending text messages, I discover that they haven’t increased their charges. Generally, the cost of operation has increased, and it’s the government that is supposed to reduce the cost of energy, the interest rate, and all those indicators.

“So, since the government is not doing that, they cannot stop them. So there is a need for the government to review its policies. The need to intervene generally in the economy,” he elaborated.

Tella also highlighted the need for subscribers to adjust to the new reality and understand that operators cannot continue to operate at a loss.

He warned that if the situation is not addressed, more companies may be forced to leave the market, which would have negative consequences for the economy.

An economist, Aliyu Ilias, stated, “The move is justifiable, and the telcos and the NCC have been doing well. The way they have even approached the situation is commendable.

“The environment they operate in is not different from the environment others are operating in. It is a tight move, but the government needs to work with them to know the percentage they intend to increase the tariff,” Ilias argued.

Politics / Re: Are You Willing To Pay N178,000 Monthly For A 24-hour Electricity Supply? by 2aces(m): 10:00pm On Apr 03
aieromon:

Let's look at the facts on ground.

House 1
Power load = 2000W
Average of 20hrs/day gives 600 hours in a 30 day calendar month.
Power consumption = 2kW * 600h = 1200kWh
Cost of power consumed = ₦225 * 1200 = ₦270,000

House 2
Power load = 2000W
Power is generated using a 2.5 kVA petrol generator. Running wattage is 2000W.
Fuel efficiency = 1.1litres/hour (15 litres in 14 hours at 50% load - generator will consume more if we increase the load but let us stick with this for the purpose of this comparison)
For House 2 to generate 600hrs in a month requires 660L of PMS.
At ₦560/litre, House 2 will spend a sum of ₦369,600 in an attempt to replicate power supply from DISCOs. Maintenance cost has not been factored in these calculations.

A lot of small scale businesses spend up to ₦178,000 monthly running petrol generators.

Power is not cheap!

Haba bros, the fact you and I can chest the increments doesn't mean it should be ok with everyone else. Just imagine several small scale businesses folding up cos they can't afford to run their business with this spike electricity tariff.
Take a small scale barber shop for example, that gets patronage from an average of 7 customers per day charging N1000 per cut
His take home before expenses N217,000

Subtract N178,000 from that amount and tell me if he is running a business or just wasting his time.
Same can be said about several small and medium scale manufacturing and service based businesses in Nigeria, which makes bulk of our employed population.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A COUNTRY THAT DOES NOT SUBSIDIZE A THING OR TWO FOR HER CITIZENS, JUST TO HELP reduce THE GAP BETWEEN THE HAVES AND HAVE NOT.

Nairaland / General / Re: What Is Happening To My Solar Installation & Inverter? Please Help!!!! by SamBalo08935: 4:18pm On Nov 26, 2023
rottennaija:

I understand the problems. The fact is that with electricity from NEPA or generator, the system will charge faster and last long than just charging with panels with especially with your configuration of your fridge coming on by 9am going off by 5pm. So if you have a daily electricity of 5 hours, you will not really notice what you are experiencing.

However, taking away the daily electricity supply of 5 hours a day, your fridge coming on between 9am and 5pm, and relying only on solar panels to charge and keep your system running, you begin to experience these.

What most people don't know is that solar panels have an efficiency of 19% to 21%. For a 300w panel, you can get close to 250w when the sun is really high and with a clear sky. And that rarely happens during the day and especially as we have a raining season. Any small cloud passing over the direct sun rays to your panel will reduce it's output. What I am saying is, while you expect to have 1030w from your panels, the reality is going to be very different. You may just be seeing 300w from the system.

Solutions?
Get a premium mppt controller. your inverter may be hybrid, but it will not be able to give you what you want.

If you can get an mppt that take up to 200v, even better. Let your installer series all the panels, use the mppt and connect directly to the battery.

Then observe it's performance and based on the charging performance of the battery and it's use time, you can decide to adjust your fridge timing according.

Please can you link me up with the guy that sold the panel to you. if I can get used panel like that from him too.

Technology Market / Leveraging On Solar Can Reduce The Burden Of Subsidy Removal - Tomiwa Bayo-ojo by KennethPriceNG: 7:08pm On Jul 17, 2023
Leveraging on solar can reduce burden of subsidy removal - Engr. Tomiwa Bayo-Ojo
Interview with Kingsley Jeremiah, Abuja.
https://guardian.ng/interview/leveraging-on-solar-can-reduce-burden-of-subsidy-removal/

Tomiwa Bayo-Ojo is the Managing Director of an indigenous renewable energy firm, Volsus Energy Limited. In this interview with Kingsley Jeremiah, he underscores the need for renewable energy penetration in Nigeria amid the removal of subsidy.

Are there issues of substandard solar equipment in the market and how can a user identify quality products?
Like every product, there could be those that fall below the approved specification for a country and the global rating. That is for the standards authority to enforce and ensure that such devices do not get imported into the country. However, as a prospective solar power owner, you should insist on using tested and credible solar power companies.

That is why at Volsus Energy, we commit to excellence and customer satisfaction. We insist on nothing less than the premium quality and then we provide product warranty and after-sale services, ensuring that your power supply needs are met twenty-four hours all year round.

The current administration is intensifying the implementation of the Energy Transition Plan (ETP) of which promoting solar power usage is at its core. How can the private sector support this plan towards the global net zero emission goal by 2060?

It is a global agenda and I am glad that Nigeria keyed into this early enough to drive access to electricity for its people and cut emissions in line with the Goal Seven of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The private sector is pleased to work with the government towards implementing this plan as we have the capacity to deploy more solar power products that include Solar Home System (SHS), mini-grids, solar power plants among other innovations in the country.

We urge the government to provide platforms for mass solar power project financing, grant incentives in terms of tax waivers to solar energy companies and promote other policies that will facilitate this goal.

Funding is a key in acquiring solar. How do we address this issue?
Yes, we often hear people say that acquiring solar energy is capital intensive and they may be right to some extent. But come to think of it, they only see it that way because they spend on the generators in bits. When accumulated, their spending on buying a generator, refueling it and calling the mechanic from time to time for repairs and maintenance is more costly than getting a solar power installation.

Thanks to the global campaign to promote renewable energy, the cost per unit of solar is getting cheaper and that means the equipment is getting cheaper. Hence, there are many installers that are willing to provide funding options for verified customers by partnering with banks and even telecommunication entities. As the financial system continues to strengthen in Nigeria, more funding options to drive solar power acquisition as well as other utility goods will become easier.

You mentioned that solar power installations are durable in the long run, how long can an installation last?
Solar power installations are durable and have little to no maintenance cost in the long run. Depending on the appropriate energy audit, quality installation and material utilization, a solar installation’s battery can go beyond five (5) years while the solar panel can last up to twenty (20) years. With energy conservation and the usage of energy saving devices, a solar power installation can work optimally leaving room for redundancy or extra capacity which makes such devices to last longer.

As a start-up renewable energy firm, how are you navigating the industry?
Volsus Energy Limited was established in 2016 but prior to that, I had been in the real estate sector. It was that sector that inspired my diversification into the energy sector. I also recognised the great opportunities in the energy sector especially in renewable energy, and so that was how I started. The company was registered in 2016 with offices in Abuja and Lagos state, and we have been delivering on various energy projects.

At Volsus Energy, we offer various services that we believe is key in driving the renewable energy space in Nigeria. The federal government is championing energy transition and we believe the government cannot do this alone but would need the support of the private sector to deliver on this. For instance, a World Bank report in 2021, states that over 45 per cent of the Nigerian population does not have access to electricity. That is a huge figure for the over 200 million estimated population.

It is also a clear fact that among this 55 per cent that access to electricity, the consistency in hours of supply is still a huge crisis that the Distribution Companies (DisCos) and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) are still grappling with ensuring that the DisCos improve electricity supply. This is where some of us in the private sector come to bring state-of-the-art technologies that are integrated into the on-grid electricity to provide consumers with seamless hours of electricity supply.

The Nigerian government recently stopped paying subsidies for petrol causing the product’s price to more than double, how can Nigerians scale this hurdle?
Renewable energy products are advancing and becoming more affordable by the day. In this view, I advise that Nigerians embrace the use of solar power installations which would cut down their energy cost by a significant margin. Already, there is a global campaign that promotes the use of clean energy and that is what Nigerian stands to achieve if more Nigerians have access to electricity through the use of solar power installations and other renewable energy sources.

The other good thing about adopting solar energy is that it can meet various electricity demand needs. For instance, devices for just lighting and charging of appliances are getting more affordable by the day and available across stores which could just solve those basic needs. There are Solar Home Systems (SHS) for large homes which could solve the lighting needs as well as power electronic devices and even refrigerators and freezers. Some other higher capacity solar energy installations can do the heating of water for bathing and other purposes in addition to the earlier stated functions.

You just spoke about powering homes, what options are there for energizing businesses?
For Micro, Small and Medium scale Enterprises (MSMEs) including salons, fashion homes, trading stores among others, lighting, powering points and refrigeration are crucial for their survival. There have been complaints of MSMEs spending over 5o per cent of their running cost on grid electricity through the Distribution Companies (DisCos) without getting commensurate hours of electricity.

And do you know that the DisCos have separate billing computation for commercial and industrial connections? And even at that, most small-scale commercial customers do not have meters which expose them to high estimated billing.
That is just the spending on on-grid electricity but it goes beyond that with the recent petrol price hike which more than doubled, rising from about N195 per litre to over N537/l since the ending of May 2023. Business owners that have generators ranging from 1KVA to over 5KVA rely on petrol to run these devices in what is called self-generated energy since they cannot completely rely on the on-grid electricity. Also, acquiring these backup generators cost a fortune not to talk of the cost of running and servicing them on a daily basis.

According to power generator import data for 2022 provided by the International Trade Centre and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria spent $3.47 billion or N2.7 trillion importing phones, generating sets, electrical transformers, and a host of other electrical equipment in 2022. A significant amount of this spending was on generators amounting to $468.65 million. Like I said earlier, this is just for importing the equipment; to run this equipment, you will have to buy at least two to five litres daily for the business.

At N537/l assuming you are buying from the NNPC Retail stations, a small business owner may be spending over N2,000 daily to power the generator and that is about N52,000 every month just on petrol. Perhaps, the total turnover and capital of that business may not be more than N300,000. If such a micro business owner spends nearly 20 per cent of his capital on just fueling the generator, it is difficult to break even in the shortest possible time.

That is why they will need to opt for solar devices that could have similar or lesser power output using a one-off capital budget and gradually then can expand the capacity.
There is also the mini grid solar plant for communities that are tired of waiting to be connected by DisCos or are tired of the estimated bills. These mini-grids operate by generating power and distributing the same within the community and then a taskforce is set to enforce commensurate revenue collection for offsetting maintenance and procurement purposes which is much cheaper than running through the grid.

announcement by President Bola Tinubu during his inauguration on May 29, 2023, Nigerians have been
embracing a range of tactics and strategies to alter their lifestyles to meet the country's market inflation.

President Tinubu, in his inauguration speech, announced the removal of fuel subsidy, saying there was no provision for it and could no longer be justified.
Within 24 hours of this pronouncement, petrol prices at
filling stations around the country soared by about 150%, bringing the cost to between N500 and N600 per
litre from between N200 and N250, the price before the removal of subsidy.

The hikes in petrol prices had an immediate impact on products and basic commodities in Nigerian markets – online and physical. For example, commercial drivers across the country raised transport fares, claiming that the withdrawal of the fuel subsidy had automatically
resulted in an increase in their operating costs.

This situation has forced many Nigerians to adjust their lifestyles to reflect the current socioeconomic conditions of Africa’s most populous country.
One of such people is Aminu Usman, who has had to forsake his car in favour of a motorcycle due to the
current fuel price increase.
Aminu, a civil servant of Sokoto State, northwest Nigeria, said that he can no longer afford to drive his
Lexus car to work every day so he bought himself a motorcycle.
“My income cannot sustain me to keep buying like N4,000 fuel daily to take my car to the office again, this is the reason I decided to get a bike.
Thank God the bike does not consume fuel like a car,” he told Sahara Reporters.

While recognising that his motorbike is less expensive to operate, he did not deny that it is less comfortable to
ride than his car in the sweltering heat of Sokoto.
“You feel more comfortable inside a car because it will protect you from the sun and you can on your AC. But that is not possible on a motorbike,” Aminu added.

Aminu also stated that the hikes in.fuel prices have caused his family to reduce the number of hours they use their generator to supplement the epileptic power supply at their residence.

“Power supply is poor in our area. Before I used to put my generator on at night, mostly for my family if there is no power. We put on it immediately after Magrib (7 pm) till around 1 am. But now, definitely, the time has been reduced because of the fuel situation.

“I don’t even have a fixed time for that again. I only put on the generator when it is necessary now and thank God my wife and children understand the situation,” he said.

Aminu’s story is similar to what millions of Nigerians are currently facing. For instance, a shop owner who sells electronic gadgets at Shehu Shagari Market, Isa Ahmadu, shared with Sahara reporters how the current hikes in fuel prices have affected his business.

Ahmadu said due to the nature of his business, his shop is expected to always have electricity without
interruption so that he can test gadgets for buyers, and he had relied heavily on his generator due to poor power supply in the market.

“The hike in the price of fuel is now.a big problem for my business. How much am I making at the shop to be
buying fuel at that price?” he queried.

Ahmadu added that he had totally stopped using his generator and installed solar panels to generate
power for his shop.

In Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, a civil servant, Mrs Oluwakemi Adeleke, now only uses her car to get out of her neighbourhood due to its bad roads when going to work.
Once she gets to the main road, Adeleke parks her car by the road and takes a tricycle (popularly called Keke Marwa) or a bus to get to work.
“Since the removal of fuel subsidy, things have been hard. I knew immediately that I had to makendrastic adjustments. So now, I only use the car to get out of my area to the main road, which takes a little over 10 minutes.

“I park my car at a junction and take a bus or Keke Marwa to get to work.
On my way back home, I just get the car and drive back home,” she said.

Samuel John, a businessman in Abeokuta, Ogun State explained how.he reduced what he called ‘Gen time’ (the time he has his generator.on) from about 5 hours to just one hour.
“Normally, I would put on the.generator around 7.30 pm and put it off by midnight or 12.30 am. But since subsidy was removed, that has changed.

“Gen time is only one hour now; I only put it on for one hour. If I put it.on at 8 pm, then at exactly 9 pm, I
put it off. I had to sit my wife and children down to explain the situation to them and that is how it has been. They understand that things cannot remain the same.”

A student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, who lives in Lagos said he had since stopped going to the
barbershop.
The student who simply identified himself as Damilola said the moment barbers in his Ogba area increased
the price of getting a haircut to N1000 from N500, he bid them ‘goodbye’.

“Interestingly, I have a clipper but I just didn’t see the need to be giving myself a haircut but now, that is what I do.

“The only thing is that I don’t give myself any fanciful haircut, I just cut it low and ensure it is uniform. In
about 20 minutes, I am done and that saves me N1,000,” he said.

Nairaland / General / Re: What Is Happening To My Solar Installation & Inverter? Please Help!!!! by rottennaija(m): 8:17am On May 06, 2023
Victor0000001:
Hello guys
Please help me here before I faint.

Due to the epileptic power supply in my area. I decided to invest in solar electricity.

I already have an inverter(24v/1.5kva - luminous hybrid) and two quanta batteries(150mh).

The pics are below.

I must say, I have really enjoyed the inverter because there is always at least 4-6 hours electricty to charge it until NEPA in my area decided to go AWOL.

Sometimes, we don't usually have power for 3-4 days, even a week, so I have
always resorted in using a generator to charge the inverter until I decided I must go solar because of my fridge.

NOTE: My fridge is LG inverter fridge, and it's just 60 watts.

I called the inverter guy & we did a calculation of 4 brand new solar panels (250 watts each) because the inverter can only take 1000 watts)

The guy came the following day with 3 used pannels (350 watts each), making 1050 watts & said the panels are even better than the new one.

He said it's made in Japan & he can guarantee me that I will enjoy it.

I trusted him. All I wanted was what would work for me, either new or old panel.

The pics of the panel are also below.

The guy installed it & I was enjoying it for 2 weeks because there was also NEPA power for almost 10 hours every day & the inverter charges with NEPA light because it can do double charging until NEPA decided to do as they would normally do, then I realised that my batteries don't charge well.

I have an IOT timer that would on my fridge at 9am and put it off at 5pm. That faithful yesterday, I came back from work & I confirmed my fridge was off & the only thing that was on were three 10watts bulbs & at 11pm, the inverter was already beeping low battery.

I thought I was dreaming, I studied it again today & it's the same problem.

I also noticed that my inverter indicates that there is solar power as early as 6 am(the lights come on but don't blink)

but starts charging at 9am, (thats when the light starts blinking).

Then stops charging at 6pm ( the light stops blinking) till the light goes off around 7pm.

I was able to watch from the video which I have also shared the link below that when the solar indicator is on for my type of luminous inverter, it indicate that solar energy is available but start to charge when it starts blinking.

My questions are

1. Is the inverter designed that way? Is it some sort of smart intelligence because i am confused why it would behave like that even when the sun is already up at 8 and still up at 6:30pm?

2. Could the panels be bad & not charge the batteries well? The guy said he tested the voltage from the panel & it was around 35v each from one panel if I remember correctly & he had to even step it down. How am I supposed to know if he is saying he truth?

3. He said I should always put off the fridge at 3pm but I refused because that's the main reason I did the solar so my food won't get spoilt.

The fridge is just 60 watts, even my fan is 72 watts.

Why can't a solar panel of 1050 watts charge 2 batteries well.

Even before the solar, if there is light & my batteries are well charged, my batteries will last 2 days & the fridge will be on for at least 4-6 hrs each for those 2 days.

4. He said he would bring a controller so that he would connect the solar directly to the batteries. Would that make any difference? Why can't a 1050 watts solar energy charge two150mh batteries well for 10hours? The only difference might be that charging will start at 8am & stops at 7pm which is plus 2 hrs charge & I see no reason why 10 my batteries can't be up to at least 50% for 10 hrs

More so, the luminous inverter is hybrid & I feel it's well designed to do the controlling than most controllers out there

5. What is the solution? What can I do because I am really frustrated. I just spent 340k & I am not enjoying the benefits yet.

I don't even turn on my TV, fan or anything since the solar installation except my fridge during the day & three 10 watts lights during the night including charging one laptop & one phone.

And now, I might even consider to take all the food in the freezer to a friend's place because they have steady power supply. I can't let the food that will last me more than one week to get spoilt & I don't want to run generator all the time when I supposedly have solar.

I want to tell him to come and remove the panels off my roof, but I want to make sure that it's not a panel issue because i am 100 percent certain my batteries are very good.

Please, what can I do? I am not happy

Technology Market / Use Cooking Gas To Run Your Generator 08166866515 by gen6: 1:57pm On Feb 09, 2023
What Are LPG Generators? LPG Generators run on liquid petroleum gas and have become very popular in the industrial sector. This is because of their low running costs which stems from the fact that bottled gas can be up to half the price of other fuels.

Are LPG generators any good?
LPG produces less exhaust emissions than petrol — less CO2, NOx and SOx. LPG fuelled engines have fewer service and repair costs as they need less maintenance. LPG generators produce less noise compared to petrol generators, which means a better working environment for you.

Can a generator run on LPG?
Propane, a type of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), is one fuel choice people often choose to power their generators. Other common fuel choices include diesel, gasoline, LPG, and natural gas.

Is LPG generator is better than petrol?
Propane vs Gasoline generator Efficiency

Propane generators are less efficient than gas generators, producing fewer BTUs per gallon of fuel. However, propane is a cleaner-burning fuel than gasoline, making it better for both the environment and your generator.

Is LPG generator cheaper than petrol?
Why buy a Green Power Gas generator? Lower running cost. LPG is generally cheaper than petrol. The units have recorded 30-90%less running costs when compared to the local fuel price in different countries.

How long will a generator run on LPG?
A 7kW generator will run for 66 hours, a 12kW generator will run for 36 hours on a 100 gallon tank at full load. Most of the time, the generator is operating between 25-75% capacity and the fuel supply will last much longer.

Can LPG damage my engine?
Is LPG harmful for your engine? LPG is arguably better for your engine than petrol or diesel, since it's a cleaner burning fuel and will result in less wear of your engine's components. If anything, LPG will likely prolong your engine's life, rather than damage it, and reduce maintenance bills.

Does LPG increase power?
LPG is a cooler burning fuel, therefore the engine does not produce as much heat or pressure to the cylinder. Because it is cooler burning it has less “power” per combustion charge.

What are the disadvantages of LPG generator?
Less efficient than alternative fuels

Whilst there are obvious benefits to propane fuel, it is less efficient than other fuel sources. It is likely that you will burn through propane much quicker, meaning you will need to have a big enough tank to keep your generator running during a power outage.

What is the major disadvantage of LPG?
Explanation: The major disadvantage of LPG is the reduction in the life of the engine and less power compared to gasoline. The other disadvantage of LPG is a special fuel feed system is required for liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

What are the disadvantages of using LPG?
The disadvantages of LPG are
It causes suffocation, in case of leakage as it heavier than air.
It is hazardous as it inflammable gas.
It is consumed more as it has low energy density.
It does not provide power to the vehicle in mountains or rough terrains.
It is costlier than CNG

How to convert petrol engine to LPG?
Converting your car to LPG is a relatively straightforward process, and involves simply installing a secondary fuel system in your vehicle with a separate tank and gauge for the Autogas fuel. There is no requirement for a new or replacement engine.

Is LPG cheaper than electricity?
According to calculations by Deepak Sriram Krishnan, associate director, Energy at World Resources Institute (WRI) India, electric cooking is cheaper than LPG cooking at present prices. “It costs Rs 10.15 for heating 10 kg water from ambient temperature to boiling point in Delhi using a domestic LPG cylinder.

Does LPG last as long as petrol?
LPG is a cleaner burning fuel than either diesel or petrol, so engine life is actually extended and LPG does not damage engines. If anything, LPG may prolong engine life.

Which is better LPG or petrol or diesel generator?
Environmentally Friendly

Natural Gas and LPG generators produce emissions that are less harmful to the environment as they produce less carbon dioxide per unit of energy. Petrol and diesel generators release soot and ash into the atmosphere whereas the cleaner-burning LPG or gas does not.

How long does 1kg LPG last?
LPG consumption

Halve the flame and you'll get nearly 4 hours of use from 1kg, which is very reasonable.

Can LPG explode without fire?
It's almost impossible to have LPG blast on its own without related factors. Firstly, a gas leak from the cylinder or regulator gets mixed with air, forming a combustible mixture. To complete the fire triangle we need a spark or a source of ignition.

Stop wasting your money on Petrol, Convert your gasoline generator to propane / Lpg generator. Propane/ Lpg generator is Economical. As in, 12.5kg cylinder will last you for 60 hours.Let say you use generator for 5 hours in a day, that means it will last you for more than a week.. your gasoline generator will never smoke simply because there is no dirtiness and carbon monoxide in cooking gas(Butane), no short of engine oil, your gasoline generator noise will reduce, it is easy to install.
We don't convert Diesel. Just petrol generator only.
Advantages of running your gen on cooking gas stated thus;
Gas is cheaper and always available
Gen noise/sound is reduced by 30-50% depending on age, make of gen and load
It's also eco-friendly. Gen stops smoking entirely
Engine oil lasts longer before getting dirty
Gen Servicing frequency is reduced.

Autos / Seven Things To Know About Owing And Driving A TESLA In Nigeria by Hardey33: 6:59am On Feb 05, 2023
Omono OkonkwobyOmono Okonkwo

Tesla leaves a great impression on the minds of many people who come across it. That’s because, in terms of technology, Tesla leads other electric vehicles (EVs). Tesla cars have self-driving features as well as the highest charging range.

The Tesla Model X, for instance, comes with butterfly doors, they also have more mileage per charge than other EVs, which is why they are ahead in EV sales globally.

According to 234 Drive, some people are in doubt if a Tesla will work or cope well with Nigeria’s abysmal power supply. In this video, 234 Drive took a test drive of a Tesla X owned by Alkesh Thavrani the Managing Director of Lagos-based Omnik Limited.

During the drive, it was discovered that if the Tesla X is not on a road with traffic lines, the autopilot which is a feature of the model X, will not work. This means that if the car is driving on roads that have no white lines (which is over 50% of Nigerian roads), the autopilot feature will not work.

But this was way back in April 2021. To find out whether Tesla is still stuck in 2021 or has embraced reality, we asked another user for his experience.

A Tesla Model X owner and Nigerian businessman, Hamilton Ezeonu, told Nairametrics that Tesla cars are just like mobile phones, so, they are updated regularly.

Tech updates: Mr Ezeonu said that his Tesla was purchased in 2021 but as of 2023, his car has been updated to reflect the 2023 version. According to him, the cars are regularly updated and the fact that the fibre optic network, SpaceX’s Starlink has come to Nigeria makes it easier for the Tesla app to work efficiently even in the remotest areas.

“Because of this, Tesla cars have a great resale value and is the first car competing with landed properties,” says Mr Ezeonu.
The cost: Mr Ezeonu bought his Tesla Model X with butterfly doors in 2021 at the cost of $130,000. Mr Ezeonu tells Nairametrics that he paid N20 million for clearing fees to get the car out of the Lagos port.

According to Mr Ezeonu, he decided to buy a Tesla to save money on car maintenance costs, stressing that electric vehicle (EV) owners do not have to worry about buying premium motor spirit (PMS) also known as petrol. He also pointed to the fact that he got his Tesla for the comfort it offers.

For those who want a less expensive EV brand, the 2021 Changan electric vehicle and charger costs $18,000 inclusive of the clearing costs in Nigeria. But, if clearing costs are excluded, the Changan brand can be bought for $13,500 These costs are subject to clearing costs fluctuations, however, these costs are valid as of January 29, 2023.

Public approval: Although there are other electric vehicle products in Nigeria like the Hyundai Kona Electric, Jet Systems Motors, GIG Logistics, Max-NG, and Phoenix, Nigerians are fascinated with Tesla products, mostly because it is the most globally recognized electric vehicle and a lot of people associate Tesla with the controversial Chief Executive Officer, Elon Musk.

According to Mr Ezeonu, young people who are aware of Tesla products usually approach him to appreciate the car, even if they do not own one.

Bad road network: Mr Ezeonu said his Tesla Model X is a self-driving car and he can set a timer for when the car comes on by itself in the morning. He told Nairametrics that he can set the address of his destination in his Tesla X and the car can drive itself to that address. Nigeria’s bad road network seems not to be a problem for Mr Ezeonu when it comes to driving his Tesla X in Lagos.

He told Nairametrics that driving a Tesla in Lagos, is no different from driving on bad roads in America, to him, it’s all the same thing. He highlighted the fact that there are bad roads in New York, meanwhile, there are more Tesla cars in New York and California than anywhere else.

Mr Ezeonu told Nairametrics that the Tesla app comes in handy when the user wants to program the car. For instance, if the user wants to monitor traffic, the app reveals the number of miles they will cover on their trip, and it estimates the traffic time as well. So, before the user leaves home, they already know the amount of energy they will use during their trip.

Meanwhile, for Lagos-based Changan EV owner, Mr Olufemi Oyefodunrin, the Country Manager at Podlocker EV Nigeria, the experience of driving an EV on bad Nigerian roads is the same as driving an ICE vehicle in the country. Although he cautions that it is wise to be mindful of potholes when driving.

Charging a Tesla in Nigeria: Remember that photo of a Tesla Model X that broke down on the third mainland bridge in 2021? Some online users concluded that the Tesla broke because the battery had run out of power. However, this post points out the possibility that the car tires may have developed a fault. This is a possibility because Mr Ezeonu told Nairametrics, that in his experience, a fully-charged Tesla Model X can travel for 350 miles.

While speaking about how long a fully charged Tesla Model X can last in Nigeria, Mr Ezeonu gave an example using a road trip from Lagos to Anambra state, which can be done using a Tesla because the distance is only 290 miles. He also said a Tesla can travel from one end of Lagos to the other on a single charge. He said:

“You can have a full charge in your house in Lagos and probably drive for four days on average, without charging. From one end to the other end of Lagos, is not far, From Victoria Island to Ikeja is like 7 to 8 miles, for instance, compared to a full charge of 350 miles. Once your Tesla is fully charged, you are good to go for the next three to four or even five days.
“However, if your Tesla is fully charged at 350 miles and you encounter a lot of traffic, the car could last for three days as opposed to five days, because your air conditioner could be on. However, there is a way to regulate your cooling unit, so you do not burn too much energy. You can set the cooling unit to a particular temperature, like 65 or 70 degrees and it should not go below this range. If you keep the temperature low in traffic, your battery will not run down easily.
“To reduce your energy consumption when driving a Tesla in Nigeria, you need to program everything and keep it at a constant level. Also, when you are driving, try not to accelerate too much, if you do, your battery runs down too fast. If you follow the self-driving speed and just hold your steering wheel when in motion, it saves you more energy.”
Ezeonu said, for now, his charging is done from home. While describing how it is done, he referenced having a generator output at home as the same output for an EV charging station. According to him, any electrician can set up the charging outlet in the garage close to where the car is parked. The charging port of the car is like the outlet for fuel in an internal combustion engine (ICE) or petrol vehicle. On a smartphone, the user can monitor the Tesla app to know when their car is fully charged. A full charge for a Model X takes about four to five hours.

Ezeonu’s position is similar to Jelani Aliyu’s, who is an Automotive Designer and the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC). Mr Aliyu told Nairametrics in 2022, that he drives a Hyundai Kona electric vehicle in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

He said the power demand of an EV is similar to what people use at home to power an air conditioner or a large refrigerator. According to him, a Hyundai Kona electric car gets to full capacity within 9 hours, and 35 minutes when charging. Meanwhile, a fully charged Tesla EV can cover between 360km to 560km, after charging for four to six hours.

Charging for Changan electric vehicles: Oyefodunrin, told Nairametrics that his 2021 Changan EV charges for only two to three hours with the aid of a device that is exclusive to his company. According to him, the device regulates the EV charging system, which helps the EV to charge faster. While sharing his company’s plans for establishing solar-powered charging centres in the country, he said:

“If a user has a three-phase meter, the device can charge the Changan EV for two to three hours. Meanwhile, those who use a one-phase meter can charge the EV for five hours. The device can work with a 6.5 KVA generator.”
According to Mr Oyefodunrin, his EV charging expenses using a single-phase prepaid meter in the Agege area of Lagos state do not exceed N20,000 per month. According to him, those people living in high-brow areas may spend higher costs based on their tariff bands.

Oyefodunrin said that once fully charged, his Changan (2021) can make three trips between Ikeja City Mall (ICM) to Agungi, Lekki. He also said that his EV model can run the same distance as an ICE vehicle that is powered by 25 litres of fuel. He also gave an instance where his EV made a round road trip to the inner city of Abeokuta from Lagos and back, on a single charge.

Power source for charging: Mr Ezeonu said he uses solar for 85% of his power needs in Lagos. According to him, charging a Tesla is no different from charging a cellphone or plugging an iron for straightening clothes, so, the power used in the course of charging the EV does not negatively affect the lithium-ion batteries that power his solar home system.

He said charging a Tesla does not drain as much energy as water pumps. He stated further that he uses a prepaid meter for on-grid power but solar power is what he uses most and he only uses solar energy to charge his Tesla X.

It is instructive to note however that anyone who plans to use on-grid power for Tesla charging using a prepaid meter could spend up to N6000 for 100-kilowatt hours (KWh), with the assumption that the user is on a tariff band of N60 per KWh. Battery specifications also determine how fast a charge can be. The slower it takes your battery to charge the more you are likely to pay as charging costs.
Bear in mind that based on 2022 specifications, a Tesla S model is powered by a 100-kWh battery, while a Tesla X model is powered by a 75-kWh battery, and a Tesla Y model is powered by a 75-kWh battery.
Police harassment? According to Mr Ezeonu said that he has no experience of police harassment while driving his Tesla in Nigeria, however, he said the officers he has come across, are usually curious when they see his Tesla. He said they have asked him the name of the car and admitted to never seeing the car before. This shows that a lot of enlightenment still needs to be done in Nigeria as it relates to renewable energy technologies and electric mobility.

For the record: All brands of electric vehicles require less maintenance than regular vehicles. Electric vehicle batteries are designed to last for the expected lifetime of the vehicle. The associated electronics, batteries, and motors do not demand as much maintenance as internal combustion engine (ICE)powered cars. But EVs need servicing occasionally.

What Materials Do I Need To Set Up My Ice Block Business In Nigeria?

Before you start up the ice block business, there are major materials you will need to always keep your production going, and below listed are what you need to have.

Water
Water is the major raw material you need in this ice block business; there's no way you can make ice blocks without it because ice blocks are made by freezing water to a low temperature. Therefore, you need to make sure you have a good source that supplies you with clean water to carry out your production.

It is advisable to take note of the clean water because the block will be used to make cold drinks or dropped directly into something drinkable and you don't want your potential client complaining about drinking poison or drinking products that are contaminated as a result of your carelessness.

You can decide to find a way to get water directly from the local water supply around you or you can buy it from the body in charge of water, but make sure it's clean.

If you have enough time, you can decide to boil your water before making it an ice block or ensure it passes through a purification process.

Packaging
If you grew up in Nigeria, you know that the easiest way to package ice blocks is in a transparent polythene nylon bag. This is because even if the ice block returned to its original state, the nylon could always hold the water.

You can decide to customize your nylon with your brand name and also include your contact details so that your clients can always use them to trace you and you'll be able to stand out from your competitors.

Ice Block-making Machine
There's no way to mention ice block business and not mention ice block-making machines. This is what you need to produce your ice blocks, some people prefer to use deep freezers that have coolers to do this, but then there are specialized block machines that have certain shapes that give your ice block that unique shape depending on the molds of the machine you purchase.

This ice block machine can either be fabricated according to your specifications or bought from various companies, and Austin Laz Ice Block International Ice Block Machine Company can give you several recommendations that fit your ice block project or specification. Kindly Check their website for free consultation at A u s t i n l a z . com . ng

Generators Or An External Source Of Energy

The above listed are very important. We all know how unstable electricity is in Nigeria and truth be told we cannot shy away from the fact that we need steady electricity, for which we can not depend on the Nigerian power-producing company.

Therefore, you should get a generator that can power your ice block-making machine to avoid any form of an electricity shortage that could affect your business.

There are times when the available voltage may not carry your ice block machine, but your generator might be your only rescue at the moment this is because, at an early stage of your business, it is very bad for you to start disappointing your clients. For specification of the type of generator that will carry your machine, I recommend that you speak with Austinlaz IceBlock Machine Company in Nigeria.

Capital
Even though this part was skipped earlier, there's no way you'll start up a business without investing in it or putting your best effort toward it, especially if you want to get excellent results.

The advantage of an ice block-making business is that it doesn't need huge capital before you can start. You may not have enough money to buy industrial machines, but you can meet the closest welder near you to construct one for a start but this is not recommended because the amount a local welder will charge you and still deliver shabby job is almost the same amount austin laz ice block machine manufacturers in Nigeria will charge you and give you professional machine with free consultation.

You might not have enough money to customize your nylons, but you can get cheap nylons from the market.

If you're in an area where the power supply is manageable, you can also utilize this opportunity to make profits.

How To Make your First Millions Through Ice Block Business In Nigeria Within 30 Days

This is the part you've been waiting for, and the steps on how you can achieve this have been listed below; before you take them, you need to take note of the few tips to help you make your first #1 million in 30 days.

Make Sure You Have A Positive Mindset

Firstly, you need to ensure that you have a positive mindset towards this business and be ready to give it your best no matter the challenges you encounter, remember the business is at an early stage and it needs enough time and attention.
Know your Target Market.
Secondly, you need to ensure that you know your target audience and search for a strategic place where your services will be required of which you can decide to choose the market area, residential area, busy roadside, and other locations where people will need your services always

Have A Mind Set That The Ice Block Business Is Seasonal

This means that you always need to be conscious of your business and its season. You don't expect to have high patronage during the cold or rainy season; therefore, you need to take advantage of the dry season and heat period as this is the time when most people tend to be dehydrated a lot.

You also need to reduce your production of ice blocks during the cold or rainy seasons and increase your production during the dry and hot seasons.

Know your Competitors

This is another factor you need to consider. You need to do something unique that will stand you out from your competitors. You can decide to offer special services to your clients or give them extra like a buy five get one free offer if possible.

You can decide to offer free delivery service to your clients to save them the stress of coming to your store. You might also make your production costs low, but in the process, make sure you're still making a profit.

Proper Maintenance Of your Machine
If you don't properly take care of your ice block machine and generator, they will not serve you for a long time, and this may cause a shortage in your level of production.

You can always check on your machines and ensure you take care of your ice block machine.

Do not wait for your machines to break down before you service them, and it is advisable to get a good technician to run regular maintenance on your machines.

Draft On How To Hit your Target For 1 Million Naira In 30 Days
Now that you know the above tips you need to take to make one million dollars, here is a little draft on how to hit your target.

If you decide to get an ice block machine that produces 200 ice blocks within 5 hours, you can decide to produce about 400 ice blocks before the day runs out.

If you can produce over 400 ice blocks daily and you decide to sell each for 100 naira per block, that's a lot of profit. Let's do the math together.

400 pieces of ice block multiplied by 100 naira each = 40000

If you make 40,000 naira daily, that's a huge profit, and there are days you might make more than that amount; now let's multiply 40,000 by 30 days, which equals 1,200,000.

This is a huge profit in thirty days; you might decide to keep one million naira to yourself and use the other 200,000 for maintenance or expansion and by doing this you will be able to hit your target in no time.

Factors To Consider Before Making Payments For Ice Block Machine In Nigeria

It is advisable to always consider certain factors before you make payment for that ice block machine of your choice, and some of these factors are listed below.

Ensure you know the capacity or number of ice blocks the machine can produce at a particular time; maybe it's 200, 100, or 50. You can take note of the capacity to know your level of production.

Take note of the freezing time, which is how long it takes to produce the ice block, and most times it depends on the compressor.

Knowing this should help you to save electricity and labor or austinlaz . co m . ng can give you recommendations on the best ice block machines with an efficient freeze time suitable to your budget.

There's no ice block machine without a compressor, as this is more like the engine of the ice block machine and can play an important role in the ice block and how long it takes for production. The number of compressors in an ice block machine can provide better quality ice than a single compressor.

Apart from the above-listed factors, before you order that industrial or fabricated ice block machine, you also need to consider
The number of blocks it can produce
The generator capacity
Engine capacity

There is no need to panic if you have no idea about any of the above; you can always seek the services of a professional technician to either advise you or follow you to purchase the machine of your choice.

Pipe: 3m, 6m, 9m.

How to choose the right laser cutter machine?

Processing materials and business requirements
First of all, we should consider our business scope, the thickness of the cutting material, the material that needs to be cut and then determine the size of the equipment that needs to be purchased and the size of the worktable. At present, the power of the laser cutting machine on the market is between 500w and 6000w. The scale of the workbench manufacturer can be customized according to customer needs.

Selection of suppliers (manufacturers)
After confirming the demand, we can understand and check the performance and basic parameters of the machine through various channels. Choose some strong and competitive manufacturers for early communication and samples, and then we can conduct on-site inspections, the price of the machine, and the machine Training, payment methods, after-sales service, etc. are discussed in more detail.

Laser power
When choosing the performance of a laser cutting machine, you should fully consider the environment. For example, we often cut metal plates below 6mm, and then choose a 500W-700W laser cutting machine to meet production needs. If cutting more than 6mm Materials, you need to consider the use of larger power machines, which is more conducive to the cost control of enterprises.

The core part of the laser cutting machine
When selecting some important parts of the laser cutting machine, we also need to pay special attention. Especially the laser generator, laser cutting head, servo motor, guide rail, water tank, etc., we must distinguish whether it is made in China or imported. All these factors directly affect the laser The cutting speed and accuracy of the cutting machine.

Equipment quality and stability in use
Now the product development cycle is very short, and the update and replacement are getting faster and faster. How to guarantee customer orders, maintain the company’s reputation, and improve the company’s competitiveness is also an arduous task for every operator. Therefore, choose and purchase stable processing Equipment is the prerequisite and foundation. It is necessary to choose as much as possible a brand with a high market share, a complete after-sales service system, many after-sales service outlets and long-term market inspections. Without after-sales service, we cannot covet cheap products and buy inferior products. This will have a huge impact on the company’s production.

After-sales service
The after-sales service of each manufacturer varies greatly, and the warranty time is uneven. In the after-sales service, we should not only provide customers with an effective daily maintenance plan but also establish a professional training system to help customers get started as soon as possible.

Maintenance of laser cutter machine.

Visual inspection
Look for signs of wear, leakage or deterioration, such as bellows and wipers on guide rails and ball screws.

Lubricating
Fill up and replace the oil according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Filter replacement.
Air filter and oil filter.

Cleanliness
This helps keep the machine in good condition.

Clean the optical components.
Laser cutting will produce smoke, blur the window glass and reduce the beam quality. Care must be taken when cleaning the optical system to avoid scratches.

Beam quality test.
Laser manufacturers use beam analyzers to do this. For users, a simpler method is to conduct regular test cuts. Some people call this a burning profile-and compare today’s beam cutting methods with new machines. Compare the workpiece during cutting. This is a simple and intuitive way to see if the beam has changed.

Chiller maintenance.
The water needs to be replaced regularly, and microbial chemicals must be added. In addition, the cooling coil needs to be cleaned to make it work effectively.

Auxiliary gas check.
The gas must be clean and dry. Workshop air is an auxiliary gas, so it is important to check whether the filter and moisture collector is working properly.

The nozzle of the laser cutting machine is regularly checked and replaced.
The debris in the drag chain of the laser cutting machine should be cleaned frequently.
Clean up the waste material of the discharge trolley in time.
Clean the focus lens of the cutting head of the laser cutting machine regularly and check whether it is damaged.
Pay attention to the surrounding environment and personal safety when using air, especially when using oxygen to assist cutting.
Lasers and laser cutting machines should keep their appearance clean and tidy and clean them frequently.
Clean up the debris on the filter screen of the suction outlet in time to ensure that the ventilation pipe is unblocked.
Monitor and check whether the switch of the laser mechanical shutter is normal.
The laser cutting nozzle should be cleaned every 30 minutes or so to remove the metal slag sprayed on it.
Before work, every day, check whether the x, y, and z axes of the laser cutting machine can return to the original point. If there is a problem, check whether the position of the origin switch-hitting block is offset.
Use an air gun to clean the dust on the heat exchange fins of the water cooler and the freeze dryer, and it is required to blow the dust to ensure the heat dissipation efficiency.
Check the cooling water temperature, the laser water inlet 19℃≤temperature≤22℃. The temperature change is about 21℃. The water inlet pressure is between 4~5bar.
Check the freeze dryer, press the start button to see whether the indicator light is on. Whether the automatic drainer is regularly draining. When stopped and without compressed air, whether the pointer of the evaporation thermometer is lower than the ambient temperature, about 5-15 below the ambient temperature ℃ is normal. In the state of operation and compressed airflow, whether the pointer of the evaporation thermometer is in the green area.
Regularly inspect the working status of the voltage stabilizer: observe whether the temperature rise of the compensation transformer and the voltage regulating transformer is normal, whether there is overheating, discolouration of the coil, etc.; whether the carbon brush contact is good; whether the input and output voltage is normal; whether there is an overload phenomenon, etc. Once an abnormality is found, it should be dealt with immediately. If it cannot be dealt with, contact the manufacturer in time to solve it to avoid damage to the equipment.

Business To Business / Tyre & Plastic Pyrolysis Business In Nigeria by superlado: 12:47pm On May 11, 2022
Pyrolysis business in Nigeria
In Nigeria we have a major environmental problem with the disposal of scrap tires. We have millions of cars, trucks, trailers, okada, keke, on the streets and highways in Nigeria. When we change our tires does tires end up on the side of the road, in gutters, in the canals and eventually find their ways to dumps and landfills. In the landfills they are buried or scattered and tires are a good breeding ground for mosquitos. When these tires are burnt they cause environmental issues to the community around and also to the ozone layer.

So what's the solution to this problem that scrap tires cause to the community and environment?

The solution is by recycling this scrap tires in sellable products which in turn puts money in your pocket. One of the methods is called PYROLYSIS.

Pyrolysis is a thermochemical decomposition of organic material at elevated temperatures in the absence of oxygen. It involves the simultaneous change of chemical composition and physical phase and is irreversible. The word is coined from the greek derived elements Pyro"fire" and lysis"separating".

Material that can be used for pyrolysis are tires and plastics.
Not all plastics can be used for pyrolysis.

Rubber tire pyrolysis is a technique which heats whole or shredded tires in a reactor vessel free of oxygen and heat source. In the reactor the rubber is softened after which the rubber polymers continuously breakdown into smaller molecules. These smaller molecules eventually vaporize and exit from the reactor. These vapours can be burned directly to produce power or condensed into an oily type liquid, generally used as a fuel. Some molecules are too small to be condensed, they remain as gas which can be burned as fuel.

Types of Pyrolysis machines
- Batch Type
Capacity available: 6TD, 8TD, 10TD, 12TD, 15TD
- Fully automatic continuous
Capacity available: 10T, 20T, 30T, 50T, 60T, (100TD-300TD could be made based on order).

Final Products and output rates you get from Tyre Pyrolysis
1 - Fuel oil (45-52%)
2 - Carbon black (30-35%)
3 - Steel wires (12-15%)
4 - Syn-gas (5-10%)

Tyre pyrolysis oil: is an oily organic compound, dark brown in colour and composed mainly of alkylated benzene, naphthalene, phenanthrene, n-alkanes from C11 - C24, and alkanes from C8 - C15, with quantities of nitrogen, sulphur, and oxygenated compounds. Pyrolysis oil has high calorific value.

Users of pyrolysis oil
- Industrial furnaces
- Power plants
- Boilers
- steel factories
- cement factories
- Glass factories
- Aluminium Factories
- Brick factories

Carbon black: is a grainy black amorphous solid, odourless, water insoluble, non - poisonous with a specific weight of 1.82, burning point is beyond 400 degrees centigrade and has a stable chemical property.

Users of carbon black
- used for making rubber products such as fan belts, conveyor belts etc
- used as a substitute for coal when in pellet form ( pellet machine will be needed)
- can be further processed chemically into activated carbon

Steel wires: gotten from tires pyrolysis are of two types, the rings and body. The rings are harder and command more money than that of body which is softer but does command as much money in the market. Depending on the cleanliness, quantity, packaging (lose or bailed), and degree of rubber contamination is what determines what the client will pay for the steel wires.

Users of steel wires
- Steel companies

Syn-gas: has a calorific value of 30-40MJ and can be sufficient to provide energy for a small scale process plant or channelled back into the furnace to heat the reactor. It can also be passed through a scrubber and cleaned and then either stored in a balloon and then used to power a gas generator.

Waste Oil Distillation machine
If you are interested in further processing your Pyrolysis oil or waste engine oil into other products such as Diesel or base oil, then you will need a Distillation machine. You can recover 80-85% diesel from Pyrolysis oil.
The whole refining process includes your distillation machine, cooling system, decoloring and deodorising system. The distillation residue can be used as asphalt and sold to asphalt companies which is used for roads.

It's very important to have a contractor because he will be the one that will bring you workers, pay workers, and handle the workers. One of the major issues in this business is workers issues and conflicts, if you take up the full responsibility of the workers they will cause you a lot of downtime hours. But when a contractor is in-charge of the workers when you have a bad apple or a problem worker, the contractor helps to resolve the issue or immediately replaces him/her. It's also not easy getting the right workers to do the job but the contractor already has a large pool of experienced workers that will come in and do the work and don't need to be trained inorder to perform their duties.
Getting an experienced reactor operator is very difficult, so when your contractor gets you one, it's wise to make him a full-time staff and put him on a salary. The truth is that the reactor operator is the most important person without him the reactor doesn't run and if the reactor doesn't run, you don't make money. Make your reactor operator happy and he will make you lots of money.
Production Engineer is also very important to make sure your machine isn't over worked, maintenance is done on the machine regularly and when issues arise he can help resolve the issues in a timely fashion, make sure you are running at the appropriate temperature inorder to get quality oil, at certain temperatures you get maximum oil and at certain times you need to fire the furnace to help reduce production time and you also don't want to burn your oil. A machine that is taken care of and maintained will last you for many years and making money.

Important information needed to decide on a Pyrolysis plant
- One of the major issues with Tyre Pyrolysis plant in Nigeria is environmental issues. Tires have very high levels of sulphur and when the tires decompose in the reactor several syn-gas are released such as hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide, sulphur trioxide, and these gases have a choking smell so your workers, suppliers, customers, people in the community and around the factory will always experience this choking smell and the discomfort it brings will make them report your company to the ministry of environment, and police which in turn will cause lots of problem for the company. So before you decide to purchase a Pyrolysis plant make sure a smell disposal system (gas cleaning system) and a desulfurization system or (a water film flue gas dedusting system). The smell disposal system cleans and removes the sulphur from the gas and the desulfurization system cleans black smoke to release white smoke and steam which doesn't affect the environment. With this two machines you can run your Pyrolysis plant without any problems.

Properties / Re: Solar Power N480k; Power 3bedroom; Iron, 2 Tvs, Deep Freezer. ETC by geesampower(m): 6:29pm On Jan 18, 2022
19naia:
This solar guy's price is good especially if that includes installation... I hope it includes charge controllers and supplimental small battery charger that allows to use PHCN and generator to charge batteries for days when sun is not shining much.. With all of that and no more than 500k naira, its a good price..

Its true, battery inverter alone will not be saving money because gas for generator and PHCN bill will stay the same or increase, but there will be some backup power to claim for the cost... Most people dont have expensive throttle control generators that auto-reduce the throttle when useage is below the generators watt capacity.. That means most people always have a surplus of electricity just wasting when they run the generator.. Storing that surplus on a battery-inverter system is not a watse of energy ,but a capture and savings of energy... The same cannot be said about PHCN.. PHCN is all around a waste of money right to the point of billing for a non existent product called electricity..

Solar panels and generator with charge controller, inverter and battery combination as well as a battery charger to capture genrator and PHCN to make 12v dc current to charge batteries when the sun is not shining well for a few days..
All these together are enough to hold over a complete power supply.. Wind generator/turbine is another great supplimental to add as they produce more current when active than a solar panel... With wind added as supplimental ,it will save generator cost.. Days when it rains all day with sun clouded out with dark clouds, you will have the wind blowing... Wind generator will be there to supplement very well...
I have a Honda EU generator, very quiet and with eco throttle.. The eco throttle is an automatic throttle which reduces petrol consumption based on the electric load being drawn.. But it cannot reduce the throttle to adjust to less than 25% of capacity even if you only use 10% capacity... But it is still good and saves money ,because cheaper basic generators burn petrol at full throttle at all times under any load below capacity...
Honda eu generators sell for $2600 for 3kW peak and $1200 for 2kW peak.. The 3kv peak one can take up to 20 hours to burn 3.4 gallons of petrol for constant supply at 400watts which is enough for 2 tV's and 10 efficient lights... It will be plenty to charge batteries as well.

The high price is only a starting point issue.. People who buy the cheap generators will replace them or repair them far more often than these honda generators.. by the time i spend $2700 over 5 years of replacing and maintaining cheap generators, the Honda eu generator will still be running fine & ready for another 5 years after some major service for the price of one new cheap generator... And thats after the generator was working 8 hours a day for 5 years and being maintained well..
Solar is not cheap either.. It works best for those who invest a large starter cost that makes a $2700 generator seem like a small accessory.. Full home service power plant balanced with wind, solar and battery charger to plug into alternative fuel generator ,will be a complete self contained system that can call PHCN to come collect their rubbish meter, wires and poles... 1million Naira should be enough unless you live in a palace or use industrial grade machines.

The guy's price is good.. I lived with solar and genrator for ten years and did my own installation and maintainance.. I have learned first hand and am also putting together another small solar kit as we speak.. I have ordered the accessories and will get the solar panels and batteries later locally when i am ready to instal.. My inverter, charge controller and accessories will all fit inside a small back pack and carry go anywhere there are batteries and solar panels..
See the picture below of what i have right now waiting to do a set up of a 1kw peak output system... The inverter is not in the picture, i have that being shipped direct to the site and i will carry these components here with me in my back pack with room to spare for some personal things.

Remember, peak output is what a system is rated for.. If you want to actually sustain 3kv, then buy a 4 or 5 kvwSystem.. 3 kw system is good for 2.5kw.. My 1 kw system is only good to sustain .8kw load... Advertised rating is only for peak use which can only be sustained for short periods of time.. Some will advertise extreme peaks almost double the basic rating.. But if they dont advertise a separate peak rating, then use it only to 75% or less of the Watt rating.. It makes a difference in how long the inverter will last.. Heavy duty expensive inverters usually last many years, but the cheaper smaller ones dont last more than a year under daily use under 75% load for most of the day.. Some cheap ones wont even last a few months without a separate load controller to sheild them from the battery bank's high amperage capacity... The charge comtroller i have here, controls load, charge and input.. They have 360 watt or 30amp rating for DC load...

Remember that not all solar panels are equally powerfull...
If OP's solar panels are anything less than 80watts or 100 watts, then maybe it is not a good price and will not power as much as he claims.
Some solar panels are huge and put out over 200 watts while others are small and put out 50 watts or less.. Count the watts on everything being given to you and also account for amps... The batteries should be rated in amps... 150 watt battery has no power for the claims above.. If it is 150 amps to the battery, then we have power.. 200 amps battery at 12 volts will be 200x12= 2400watts... 2400 watts of 12 volt DC must then covert to 24 volts and then or directly to 220 volts.. by the time the inverter changes 12volt dc to 220 volts ac, the watts available per hour, will be divided by 20 and then adjusted for the gaps in current alternatiings .. 120 ac watts per hour maximum per 12 volt battery.. If they are four, then 4 hours at that rate...

Some batteries are 100amp and others 220amps... Some are 6 volt batteries while others are 12 volt... 6 volt is easier to charge with smaller charges.. 12 volt will take longer to charge with small loads, unless it is a lower amp battery like 100amp or less 12volt battery.. Also no battery is designed to give out its full amp load.. So even after all these calculations and rated amps, the actual load available to draw, will be less and over less hours... The good thing is that solar panels will add to the batteries output as we draw load from the batteries.. But this is only during the day when there is sun.. So day time use will be far more yeilding than night time use... This is why the best systems are balanced with wind and supplemental battery chargers...
DC watts and DC amps are not equal to AC watts and AC amps... There is a lot changed in the inversion and conversions done by inverters and converters..Also power is lost from heat and noise in the components such as inverter and charge controllers...

You can pay a lot of money for very little electricity with solar, and even be misled if you dont understand the workings and conversions of voltage, watts and amps... Also to know the safe operating parameters of each of the system's components...
things are a bit more expensive now.

investnow2013:
An Address Presented by the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano to mark the formal opening of Anambra International Cargo & Passenger Airport, Umueri on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Protocol

Ndi Anambra, this is the day we have all been waiting for…this is our day of Pentecost.

In every generation, history is not only made when the Red Sea is divided for God’s chosen people to walk through. No. History is also made when a leader gives shape and form to the silent dreams of his people. Ndi Anambra the dream we have all nurtured for many years has finally come true today.

Ndi Anambra, this airport is an idea whose time has come. We fought many battles to be here today. We scaled over incredible financial huddles; survived the global lockdown by COVID-19, conquered self-doubts and flattened out five hills to construct this glorious runaway and to the glory of Almighty God, Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport Umueri is rated as one of the best airports in Africa today.

Ndi Anambra, I am told that some people often ask, why should Anambra have an airport when there are airports in neighbouring states? My reply is, why should Anambra not have an airport? Why should a state that hosts the largest retail market in West Africa not have an airport? Why should a state that hosts West Africa’s only auto-city not have an airport? Why should a state whose indigenes pioneered organized road transport and logistics-handling in Nigeria not have an airport? Why should a state with the highest number of owners of private jets in Nigeria not have an airport? And why, please tell me why, should a state with the largest population of itinerant and travelling people in Nigeria not have an airport? Why? Why should we crawl when we can fly?

Happily, I have been repeatedly assured by aviation experts that this airport will be one of the most viable airports in Nigeria very soon. I have also been assured that what we have here is one of the most modern airports in Africa. This airport has a runway of 3.7km. It is Nigeria’s second longest runway. It is second only to Murutala Mohammed International Airport Lagos. But it has a Runway End Safety Area (RESA) of 1km on either side of the runway. Unlike the MMIA Lagos, an aircraft can land on either side of our runway. I guess that makes it special.

In addition, this airport is equipped with a Satellite Landing System for navigational ease. It is equipped with Category 2 Light. This is among the best airfield lighting system in the world today which makes it possible for flights to land even in the worst weather. It also has Instrument Landing System which ensures that the aircraft is vertically and horizontally aligned to the runway while landing. Our runway is 270 mm thick. That ensures that airbuses, including Boeing 747 can land with ease in this airport.

The Apron measures 200x300 meters wide and 560mm thick. Our Apron can comfortably accommodate 8 Boeing 747. It is connected to the Runway by two Taxiways.

Ndi Anambra our Control Tower is 34.5 meters high or 11 floors tall. It is equipped with a lift and a staircase. But the most important detail about our Control Tower is that it has an inbuilt fire fighting mechanism. A 350kva standby generator is at the service of our Control Tower.

The terminal building has a capacity to accommodate 400 passengers at a time. The scanning machines have all been installed and fully are functional. There are two carousels, three elevators, 36 shops and a VIP Lounge. The terminal building has a most audacious design. The roof is made up of several layers of aluminum and insulator to reduce the intensity of heat and the noise of rainfall. That is why it does not have a conventional ceiling as we know it. The terminal building has a car-park that can accommodate 750 cars at once.

Electricity supply to the airport is well planned and functional with 18 hours of light everyday supplied from the substation at Agu Awka. We also have 800kva generator on standby in case of a power outage.

This airport is classified as Category 9. This means that it is equipped with three crash tenders of 6x6 with a capacity to dispense 12,000 liters of water at a time. The airport is served by two industrial boreholes and an overhead tank of 21 meters high and a storage facility of 163 cubic meters of water and two surface tanks for fire-fighting with 640 cubic meters of water. We also have 20 water hydrants.

The meteorological garden is fully equipped and ready. Our Emergency Operation Center/Clinic is ready with two ambulances; a public address system and other essential equipment fully installed.

The dual carriage way leading to this airport from the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway measures 5.7km long and has been completed. It has two bridges and it is well lit at night with dazzling streetlights from end to end.

Meanwhile, we have provided land to the management of Air Peace for the proposed construction of the aircraft maintenance hanger within the airport. We have also allocated land to the Nigerian Air Force to set up their operational base here in the airport.

In all, we have trained 295 people in various critical operational areas for the take off of the airport. During its construction, this airport put over 2500 in direct employment. Over 400 people will be employed as it finally goes into commercial operation. The process will be gradual. But there will be more jobs for our people. Ndi Anambra, we are ready to welcome the world. We are international now!

I must emphasize here that this airport was built from start to finish without borrowing a kobo from the federal government or any financial institution. I must also emphasize that the Government of Anambra State does not owe any contractor for jobs done in this airport. But I must however acknowledge the historic role played by the Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue which lifted our IGR from N8.7bn I inherited when I assumed office in 2014 to N28bn as at the end of 2020. In all likelihood, this airport would have been difficult to complete without their support.

In conclusion, Ndi Anambra, here is your airport. The economic viability of this airport is in your hands. For years you have done it for others. Now is the time to do it for yourselves…do it for your home State!

Umu nnem, this airport is a monument to the resilience of the Anambra Spirit. It is a tribute to the Vision of our great party, APGA. Our dear state needs sustenance of vision. We need a man whose vision is globally acclaimed; a man who will turn this airport into a beehive of rewarding commercial activities. That man is Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

Ndi Anambra, our dear state is on the runway. We need a competent pilot to take us to a destination where the land is green with opportunities. With Chukwuma Soludo in the cockpit, we shall arrive in the destination of our dreams.

So, bring out your voters card next Saturday.
