Webmasters / Re: REQUEST About Your HELP With A DATING Site.... by DonnyD24hj: 9:15pm On Oct 16, 2022
Hello. There is nothing wrong with your desire. Agree, sooner or later every guy thinks, is his penis big enough to show it during intimacy or for example private photo shoots? We are such creatures that live in the world of average statistics, and being different in a negative way is not very good for the reputation among peers. So what can I advise you as a beginner? I think you should start with a list of natural ways to enlarge your penis, and it is well written in the article about the real way to increase your penis size, it is useful to know, because now many scammers write nonsense on this topic in order to lure money from gullible men. So read the article and practice.

A little intro about myself. I am Clinton a freelance full stack developer.

With the increasing number of fake developers and scammers littered all over this section, it is a source of worry to some of us who get the bulk of our clients from this section.

I have come to realize that there are reasons why developer seeking clients get scammed and i am going to list out these reasons.

1. You want a great job for a very cheap price: This is the top reason why most clients get scammed and I believe that over 90% of the scams recorded on Nairaland is because of this. I keep on speaking on this. Programming is not "easy". When you want a developer to integrate top of the earth features into your website and all you can offer is a cheap amount that cant even fuel the generator, my brother, you will definitely get scammed! and you know what? I don't feel pity for this category of victims because they deserve it(hey, that is my personal opinion).

2. The developer cant really do the job: I personally don't believe in "collect the job, learn how to do it later" . So many People are claiming to be developers with incredible programming skills but in reality most of them are just WordPress theme installers. As a client you should know that WordPress cant really do much and hiring these set of developers and putting very high expectations on them will definitely end in disaster

3. The person you are trying to hire is an outright scammer: So many people in this section are actually scammers "looking for their daily bread" . What actually prompted me to create this thread is because I just saw a notorious scammer bidding for a job in this section and i know the client will definitely fall for him because the scammer usually offer incredibly cheap services.

How to avoid getting scammed

I have just one solution to this scam problem and I discovered it reduces the possibility or probability of getting scammed by over 95%(not a statement of fact but it is my opinion).

Subject any developer you are hiring to a test! No scammer will have the time to start solving algorithms and answering questions in Php or JavaScript he doesn't know because he wants to scam you.

I have been doing a job for the past 2 months and before i was hired by my client i was subjected to a test from devskiller. I don't think any scammer or quack will have the patience or skill needed to take any online test. Even if they do, they will definitely fail! You can google about devskiller or any other skill testing platform and i think the tests are free. So as a potential employer make sure to subject your potential employee to a test to ascertain if he actually possesses the skills he claims to have.

In summary. As an employer, pay well for jobs and test the skills and authenticity of your employee!
GETTING RID OF scammers IN THIS SECTION IN THIS SECTION IS A COLLECTIVE EFFORT. PLEASE SUPPORT IT !

nice article

but i want to correct your statement that "wordpress can't do much".

when you learn how to build themes/plugins you'll realize that WordPress can do a lot.

I want to migrate my blogger to WordPress. Please will my blogger domain on whogohost automatically redirect to the new Wordpress domain on Namecheap. Because i am hosting with namecheap.

Thank you.

Bro, you're obviously still a newbie, but with the help of namecheap's support agents, you can actually get your new site up and running. Namecheap is very support-friendly.

Lemme explain how you can get this done by yourself. But if you think it's too complicated for you or couldn't do it yourself, just get someone here to do it for you.

1. Login to your whogohost account and go to the domain in question.

2. I don't know how whogohost interface looks like. But under the domain, look for either "setup", "settings", "options" or something similar.

3. Follow the link in No 2 above and look for "DNS" or "Nameserver". Open it and you'll see its a text box to enter your own Nameserver. You might already see another(whogohost) Nameserver which I think is [dns1.whogohost.com] or might be "dns2" or even 3 or 4.

4. Just delete all the Nameservers from the list which belong to whogohost. Then you enter the Nameservers for Namecheap. Namecheap's Nameservers are only two. Make sure to enter the both of them.

NameCheap's Nameservers are below:
dns1.namecheaphosting.com
dns2.namecheaphosting.com

When you are done with these, just visit namecheap website, go for their live chat support, tell them you want to add your domain to your hosting account. And don't forget to tell them that you already change to their Nameservers.

They will lead you or might even help you finish the rest of the steps.

But after linking your domain name, there are still stuffs to do to bring your blog back to life, so I will just suggest that you just pay someone here to help you set up the whole thing.

The whole thing would not take more than 30mins for someone who knows what they're doing. And beware of quacks and scammers.

Good luck.

Purpose of the thread

To, as much as possible, reveal scammers who are planning on defrauding, have defrauded and are still planning on doing so on the forum, particularly in the webmaster section. Also, to help save newbie webmasters from being taken advantage of by these heartless folks. Most importantly, to purge the webmaster's section and return it to its glory days.

What you should know

1. This thread will only work if victims of scams in this section come out WITH PROOFS.
2. There are trusted service providers in this section of the esteemed forum.
3. Just as the above, there are opportunists, willing and hoping to prey on people by tricking them into parting with their monies.
4. This thread will serve as a 'heads up' to naive folks hoping to meet true service providers.
5. This thread will not be used as a reputation tarnishing platform and moderators will be duly carried along as it moves.

How to prevent yourself from being scammed

1. Do not look for ridiculously cheap services. scammers will take advantage of you.
2. Do not attempt or hope to buy premium tools, themes, plugins, or scripts at ridiculously cheap amounts. The cheapest premium theme, scripts costs about $49-$80 (N19,103-N31,000). No true person will sell a theme he/she genuinely bought directly from a vendor for N500.
3. If you are buying a theme, script or plugin, ask the seller for (a) screenshot(s) of his marketplace dashboard, indicating purchase of the theme, script or plugin.
4. Avoid sellers who have 'every theme, script, or plugin'. They likely source them from popular nulled websites and such are most likely laced with worms (malwares), backdoor viruses that could have your website, app or whatever hacked and hijacked.
5. ALWAYS search a service provider/seller's number using the Nairaland search feature at the top of the page or paste such numbers on Google. Some sellers who have been busted in the time past resurrected newer monikers to do their businesses - IDENTITY RESEARCH.
6. ASK QUESTIONS from the seller/service provider. If his or her responses are given privately via emails or WhatsApp, ensure to probe further before agreeing to do business with them.
6. Endeavour to use an escrow when transacting.
7. Avoiding buying or transacting with newly registered handles.
8. Avoid people who tell you to send money first before handing something to you. Escrow should be used in situations like this.

How to properly report a scam

1. Detail how you suspected or realized you have been scammed.
2. Always share screenshots and responses between you and the other person while observing number 1.
3. If you've paid for a service or anything, kindly include the account name as well as the account number.
4. If you sense you are being bullied by anyone you report, always call the attention of Dominique.

It is not enough to say you've been scammed without proof.

HOW TO DETERMINE IF A WEBSITE IS FAKE, FRAUDULENT OR A SCAM
1. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE URL
Most internet users pay very little attention to the address bar in their browser. The address bar contains a ton of vital information about how secure you are at each level on a website. If you want to be sure if you are secure or not, then you have to develop a habit of glancing up there whenever you visit a new page.

Most browsers make use of a concept called the Line of Death. This is the point where a user should never go trust anything below a certain point on the website.

Another similar tactic scammers use in phishing is to create a website that is almost indistinguishable from the real thing. They can even go as far as creating subdomains that mimic real domains. So at each point, you are on the browser, check your address bar.

2. LOOK FOR TRUST SEALS
Legit companies who serve customers online make substantial investments in the security of their users. And when they do, they want to take good credit for it. Many trusted websites place their trust seals boldly on their homepage or login page.

SSL certificates also come with trust seals that display verified information when clicked on. Just seeing the site seal isn’t enough, it is essential that you click on it to verify it’s legitimate.

3. CHECK CONNECTION SECURITY INDICATORS ON THE ADDRESS BAR
The address bar contains several connection indicators that can tell if your connection to the website is secured. Hackers can easily eavesdrop and gain access to information on non-private internet connections.

The internet was first built on HTTP or the hypertext transfer protocol. However, any communication done via HTTP is sent in plaintext and can be intercepted, manipulated or stolen. In order to remedy this, SSL or Secure Sockets Layer was developed. SSL was later succeeded by TLS or Transport Layer Security. In a nutshell, any site with a
HTTP = Bad
HTTPS = Better

Also lookout for the Padlock Icon, the EV Name Badge Or a Green Address Bar. Either or both of these indicate that the site is using an HTTPS and that you have a secure connection.

You must note however that having a secure connection doesn’t necessarily mean you are safe. (This is explained in 4). There are lots of fake websites that make use of free SSL certificates.

4. CHECK TO CONFIRM SSL CERTIFICATE
A website might have the padlock icon, name badge or green address bar but that might not necessarily mean it’s secure. Lately, most browsers (like Safari and Firefox) allow you to view the certificate by clicking the padlock icon in the address bar. When you click on the certificate information, you will get all of the information the CA verified before it issued the certificate.

If an organization has an OV SSL certificate – which is recommended as a baseline for e-commerce businesses, financial institutions, etc. – then you will be able to see verified business details in the certificate information. Provided the website is registered to the right company, you’re fine. You can probably trust this site. If it doesn’t, then you need to be careful

TIPS TO STAY SAFE ONLINE
1. USE STRONG, UNIQUE AND COMPLEX PASSWORDS
Most people make use of simple passwords for the fact that they are easy to remember, but creating strong, unique passwords for all your critical accounts is the surest way to keep your personal and financial information safe. If you find complex passwords too difficult to manage or remember, Our best advice: use a password manager to help you store and create strong passwords for all of your accounts.

2. MAKE SURE YOUR CONNECTIONS ARE PRIVATE
When at home or work, you probably use a password-protected router that encrypts your data. But, when you’re on the road, you might be tempted to use free, public Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is usually unsecured, which makes it easier for a hacker to access your device or information.

That’s why you should consider investing in a Virtual Private Network (VPN). A VPN is a piece of software that creates a secure connection over the internet, so you can safely connect from anywhere.

3. USE A FIREWALL
A firewall is an electronic barrier that blocks or limits unauthorized access to your computers and devices. You can use a firewall to ensure that all devices connected to your network are private.

Firewall security is important because many IoT devices such as thermostats and webcams aren’t equipped with security measures, leaving hackers a vulnerable point of entry to your entire network.

4. BE VIGILANT
A reasonable number of today’s internet scams rely mostly on phishing to trick unsuspecting users into revealing sensitive information. Watch out for spam emails, click baits, phoney “free” offers, online quizzes, and other offers that either ask for your personal information or sound too juicy.

5. GUARD ZEALOUSLY YOUR IDENTITY INFORMATION
Recently, while signing up on social media sites, you are required to fill your personal information. Just be cautious about what you share, particularly when it comes to your identity information. scammers can Phish this information and use it guess your passwords or steal your identity.

6. SECURE YOUR DEVICES
Mobile devices are now as vulnerable to online threats as laptops. Be wary of risky apps and dangerous links sent by text message. Download apps only from official stores after reading reviews from other users. Ensure your mobile security software is enabled just as your laptop.

7. ALWAYS ENSURE YOUR CONNECTIONS ARE SECURE
As earlier explained, when shopping online, or visiting websites for online banking or other sensitive transactions, always make sure that the site’s address starts with “https”, instead of just “HTTP”, and has a padlock icon in the URL field. You should also check to confirm the type of certificate if you are still having some doubts.

8. KEEP ALL SOFTWARE REGULARLY UPDATED
Regularly update your software to be in tune with the latest security patches. Enable automatic updates so you don’t have to worry about it. Also, set your security software to run regular scans.

9. LOOK OUT FOR THE LATEST SCAMS
Internet scams keep evolving all the time, so make sure you know what to look out for. Currently, “ransomware” is on the rise. This is when a hacker threatens to lock you out of all of your files unless you agree to pay a ransom. Stay on top of this and other threats by staying informed.

And finally BE CAUTIOUS about what you do online, the information you share, the apps you download and always do a backup just in case something goes wrong.

If you believe you have been a victim of an internet-related crime, promptly report to the relevant government authority.

Do your work very well. Search his name and account number on Nairaland if not listed on the list of scammers. Ask for his social media handles and confirm he's the one. Through that you should be convinced to some extent. Then make sure you transfer the money through your bank or mobile app so that there will be evidence of transaction between the two of you.
