henry007: So let me get this right, you are comparing the upgrade between these 2018 models and their 2017 predecessors right?
How does the unannounced Nokia 7 Plus fit into that equation?
You should go for the Note 4X if you're on a tight budget. If not, the Note 5 Pro is worth the extra $ you're paying. That camera quality alone is enough for me to upgrade. I would try to get both for comparison hopefully before some people on here finish me with shade lol unannounced!...unannounced!!, you keep mentioning. There are some leaked official specs of Nokia 7 plus...i think you are not really interested in Nokia news that's why you've not done your research personally camera quality...you say wetin? LOL.don't tell me 12MP+5MP is what's enough for you!? so are you amongst those that follow Megapixels, because i don't think 12MP(f/2.2,1.25ûm)+5MP(f/2.0,1.12ùm) LED flash...selfie camera 20MP(f/2.2,1/2.8",1ûm) LED flash is superb... |

henry007: The few things i would change aren't deal breakers to people coming from older Redmi devices or older android devices that are similarly priced which means they aren't even deal breakers period. The phone isn't meant for me and i know this(i still would love to review it tho) Most flagship phone users never reason like this but in all honesty, it speaks ready badly about people when they have no clue what midrange phone users love most about their smartphones. Real people don't sweat the small stuff. Ain't about who's real or nah,but what's real or not! ' That your beloved xiaomi don't invest in research and innovations which obviously puts tech giants ahead in the game is enough for critics to.talk smack about its brand that you being in nigeria and is contented with xiaomi doesn't mean somewhere in europe or america some users aren' t frustrated. xiaomi doesn't realize that the mid-range device competition is getting tougher... |

Dam5reey:

I don't have your time....
MIUI alone is enough for me
Then you mentioned Nokia, even Nokia don't have Android interface yet.. They simply use pure Android... *sighs... he didn't just type smack about Nokia, did he? i don't have your time either..enjoy your MIUI in peace! |

Dam5reey: I'm not getting you oo,
You should compare phone in the same category... Nokia 7 plus can be compared to Mi note 3 cos they use the same processor... And not Note 5 pro...
What make a better Phone is Cost effectiveness.. It's as simple as that... dude, categorically they are all "Mid-range" devices..which is part of the subject topic. not which should be compared based on processor speed or chipsets why make a Mi note series and a Redmi note series under same category!?!...these chinese firms really cheese me though! |

henry007: Isn't Nokia 7 Plus still unofficial?
My suggestion is that you build your perfect $200-$250 device. Let's know what you expect from a phone of that price range.
Body - Display - Platform - Memory - Camera - Feautures - Battery -
To me, there are only a few things i would change/trade about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro that won't affect the price so much. USB type C rather than micro USB (i don't mind trading 250mah battery for this feature) Ship with Oreo (not a big deal) Replace those silver bands at the back with "invisible" plastic antenna bands on the edges and make the front face of all the colors black(those sensors make the white version ugly and cheap) Everything else seems perfect. exactly why i said a lil price surge from $200-$250 wouldn't be a big deal to xiaomi fans.like if the previous price goes for $200 ,and with lil upgrades like you stated are done to said Note 5 Pro,then it sells for $250,will $50 be a deal breaker when all these comes to pass?? @bolded |

henry007: What's your basis for comparison between these 3 phones? all three are 2018 models..with a little or say slight upgrade(s) from previous(last year's)models Note 5 Pro didn't do much..i'd go for Note 4X instead if I'm moved! |

Mrlastborn: that's wia u got it wrong, u cant ignore the price, if not for price probably,i might b using iPhone X. infact the price is wat determine the spec. for example, i want to produce a $300 phone, i must limit d spec to fones on da level and try to beat the rest by stepping up a bit in some aspect. but my end product must b within d fix price. xiaomi shouldn't always be about trying to maximize profits at the end of the day! back to the Iphone X:people still fork out over $999 on said device..why do these tech giants still make big profits with overpriced products?? Don't say it's because of the brand, be it "Apple","Samsung"...there is more to it other than being a big brand...xiaomi could be a big brand overnight if they eventually milk their game up! |

henry007: If you meant this thread, then i'd really like to know the level of buzz about Xiaomi that you expected in a Xiaomi thread.
I honestly would like to believe that Xiaomi users in Nigeria already know the risks they're taking when buying phones without after-sales services as with iPhone users. I've been using Apple products for a while now and i always weigh the risks before buying. The risks should even be more apparent to Xiaomi customers coz parts are rarely readily available. Meanwhile, there are smarty pants everywhere. Have you visited politics section? it is a xiaomi thread for sure, but with the whole buzzing here and there,do newbie buyers know about the downside of these devices?...all i read from time to time is the "merits" of owning a xiaomi device.it is just marketing to the sellers on here, yet you mentioned the risk(s) involved in making purchases..do these sellers let known to these newbie buyers such risk(s)? Reviews on this thread should allows go "For" and "against" not just the former only! |

Another thing with that statement is i don't think Phone section on Nairaland is the most accurate representation of the Nigerian Mobile market pardon me,but by "on here",i always mean this thread.everyone here buzzes about xiaomi, but what about the average man in sokoto, ebonyi, osun, rivers, benue, niger and so on...your average barber, stylist, spare part dealer and whatnot, how many of these persons can boast about the xiaomi product chain like you guys do on this thread,I'm talking figures 4,5,6.. not 10's and 100's has any xiaomi offline store been established in africa as a whole?...i doubt that. oh really?..all i have noticed overtime is that there seem to be alot of "smarty pants" on Nairaland phone section!..this should be the best section to be at,y'all entertaining! |

That is expensive does not mean its a good product, Will you buy Nokia 6 over Redmi note 5 pro?
Its simply beCos we buy it from whole seller, ship directly from country of origin.. No task not agent fees and other cost... simple business studies you say,my field was not "business studies" inclined so pardon my "ignorance"..i am typing what is happening in "2018"!..A8(2018),Note 5 Pro,Nokia 7 Plus let's ignore the pricing for a minute and face device " specs" xiaomi products are too plain...aside dual sim support, fair SOT,affordability..what else does these products offer in terms of user experience and hardware?! |

lawrence7: I think the reason Xiaomi is reluctant to spend money on things like research and development or on premium specifications like Quick Charge is that they know their market.
They occupy a niche that is filled with people who either cannot or will not pay extra for these features. And so they focus on adding small incremental performance and design updates to subsequent devices.
They do this so well that Xiaomi is like the 5th largest phone maker world wide currently. And Nokia that now makes really good android phones is just 11th.
If you notice also they focus on things that matter to that market. Like battery life and Dual sim support. The Asian market won't just cut it out for xiaomi if they continue with this crab and a bucket business strategy.Dual sim, battery life..so that's all their fans care about? same xiaomi made a twitter poll on MIUI and AndroidOne,which is most preferred!?,same fans voted for AndroidOne(53%)...xiaomi deleted everything afterwards..like they could not take their "L" like a real champ should. Nokia launches with stock android..updates will come through timely..As for the note 5 series, one will wait till september for Oreo update yet some individuals on here will say MIUI is better of. all I'm saying is that a lil upgrade here and there won't kill its status as the 5th largest OEM...they amass a loyal fan base already over the past years.a lil price surge will definitely be negligible: $200-$250,$250-$300,what's the difference anyways!?! |

lawrence7: Good evening sir, I think the main idea here is that if you'll compare phones it'll be unfair to do so with phones from 2 different price brackets. Most people will immediately pick an A8 over the note 5 pro if price isn't an issue. But price is an issue.
The note 5 pro and other Xiaomi devices are popular because of how much value for money they provide. And that's something no one does better than Xiaomi.
That's why they are the biggest in India right now. Even ahead of Samsung. Thank you for this simple analytical review. xiaomi runs the Asian mobile market effectively that i am aware of,but that shouldn't deter the tech giant from spending on technology..like make major investments...design patents and all that..they came up with Bezel-less innovation which is like old news already..bigger tech companies are even doing it better..I mean making it look cooler( my opinion anyways)..also tech giants spend heavily partaining to this little advancements hence their high pricing! the low cost of xiaomi products simply has to do with its less technological advancement...they should invest in new tech ideas atleast.. even One plus didn't gain so much familiarity/popularity overtime like xiaomi but they make good devices..i am not saying xiaomi isn't good..they could just step it up.like a little! just look up Nokia 7 plus and tell me why one won't break the bank(not necessarily though)..it's a mid-ranger still! |

Mrlastborn: the fact about Phone in Nigeria is that most people only use phone, and not making use of the SMART attached to "smartphone". And whenever u introduce Xiaomi to them, they realize what smartphone supposed to be,and dey end up joining the train. No phone can be perfect, it wil definitely av a down side, that's Y u av a review of d overall performance of fones, to consider every aspect. @Section80, d world is big enough for every1, u can say wat u wanna say, buh everybody got his/her opinion, so mak urs, and u ar welcome to the league if u wanna join. same opinion your brothers on here couldn't stomach when i let it seen on this thread yesterday.so destructive criticism is now a crime abi? and not, i mean none of them could say anything likeable about said device rather "it's cheap or derogatory comments"...like that's how you guys would run an offline store if it happens, chase people away with broomsticks because they criticize your products?!.. i am obviously not welcomed to say the lest! |

Stop being an illusionist here. Face the reality. What do u define as being rational? Buying a device more expensive when you can get another device that offers u the same spec at a lower rate?
Answer the qst urself. i know what i want in a device,so do you as well.price may be a major concern to you,but like i stated earlier, "design" is a major priority for me then camera specs, app optimization,SOT,sensors and so on,i am not looking at 6GB ram as a "yeah" moment.there are certain specifications and conditions that excites me as a user.Reason i was interested in xiaomi was basically because it can be available readily in nigeria and also its components/accessories not there are no others brands out there |
