PoliticsFresh Boko Haram–iswap Infighting Leaves Scores Dead In Sambisa Forest [VIDEO] by SecurityNgr(op): 8:59am On Jan 09

Renewed infighting between rival terrorist factions, Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), has reportedly resulted in the deaths of scores of fighters following violent clashes across the Sambisa Forest and Mandara Mountains in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria.

According to security sources, the clashes erupted after a series of coordinated raids and retaliatory attacks carried out by both groups against each other’s camps. The fighting reportedly involved the use of heavy weapons, leading to prolonged gun battles in remote and hard-to-access areas long known as insurgent strongholds.

The renewed violence is believed to be driven by deep internal divisions within the extremist groups, including disputes over ideology, leadership, and control of territory and resources. ISWAP, which claims allegiance to the Islamic State’s central command, has long been at odds with Boko Haram factions that follow a more extreme and uncompromising ideology. These rivalries have persisted even after the death of Boko Haram’s former leader, Abubakar Shekau.

Security analysts say the clashes have temporarily weakened both factions, with significant casualties reported on both sides. However, experts caution that such infighting does not necessarily mean an end to the insurgency. Instead, surviving fighters may regroup, defect to other factions, or attempt to carry out fresh attacks to reassert dominance.

The development has important security implications for northeastern Nigeria and the wider Lake Chad region. While internal conflicts reduce the immediate operational capacity of terrorist groups, fragmentation can also make them more unpredictable, increasing the risk of attacks on civilian communities, military formations, or humanitarian operations.

The Mandara Mountains and Sambisa Forest remain strategically important due to their difficult terrain, which offers cover and mobility for armed groups. Nigerian security forces are said to be monitoring the situation closely as counterterrorism operations continue across the region.

Analysts stress that sustained military pressure, intelligence gathering, and regional cooperation remain critical to preventing insurgent factions from exploiting internal conflicts to launch renewed violence against civilians.
This is a big fight.

[quote]Nigerian police operatives have foiled a planned attack and child abduction scheme in Kasuwan Magani, Kaduna State, leading to the rescue of 76 children and the arrest of three suspected traffickers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHUpw7GUaJ8?si=tbmw5KDTOWQb2Rx0

Security sources disclosed that the Kaduna State Police Command acted on reliable intelligence received on January 5, 2026, around 8:00 p.m., which revealed that a group of criminals was preparing to ambush vehicles conveying children through the area.

Acting promptly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kasuwan Magani deployed a team of officers to the identified location. On arrival, the operatives engaged the suspects and successfully prevented the planned attack, forcing the criminals to abandon their operation.

As a result of the swift intervention, 76 children—both boys and girls aged between 7 and 20 years—were rescued. Police confirmed that all the children were found in good condition with no injuries recorded.

Three individuals were apprehended during the operation. They were identified as Jonathan John (25), Oliver Magaji (27), and Bitrus Sawaba (23). Initial findings suggest that the suspects were allegedly moving the children to various destinations across the country for child labour and other forms of domestic exploitation.

The suspects are currently being held in police custody, while the rescued children have been transferred to the Kaduna State Police Command Headquarters, where they are receiving care as efforts continue to reunite them with their parents or guardians.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate and to identify other accomplices. The suspects are expected to be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and combating child trafficking, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security operations nationwide.

Cult Violence Erupts in Imo, Claims 8 Lives, SECURITY NIGERIA reports.
Tragic news from Imo State, Nigeria, where at least eight people have lost their lives in a deadly inter-cult clash in the Awarra and Ochia communities of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area. The violence has been ongoing for weeks, with five cult members and three community members killed, and one person still missing after being abducted.

A community leader, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration with the state government's inability to provide security, allowing the cultists to wreak havoc. Many residents have fled to neighboring communities, seeking refuge in churches, but are struggling to survive without access to food, homes, or farmlands.

The clash is reportedly a supremacy battle between two groups vying for control over proceeds from oil companies operating in the area. One group is led by a man known as Acid, while the other is led by Achis.

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured that efforts are being made to restore peace. The Commissioner of Police has engaged with local stakeholders, enhanced security strategies, and made several arrests.

Efforts to Restore Peace:

- Community-Led Initiative: Awarra and Ochia communities have formed a committee to develop measures to restore peace.
- Government Intervention: The state government has intervened, and normalcy has been restored in some areas.
- Police Engagement:The Commissioner of Police has personally visited Ohaji, and cooperation with stakeholders has yielded positive results.

It's heartbreaking to see communities torn apart by violence, and I hope the authorities can bring lasting peace to the area soon.
