Private Ruth Ogunleye, a Nigerian soldier, has been discharged from service following her public allegations of sexual harassment against senior military officers, including Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, Colonel G.S. Ogor, and Brigadier General I.B. Solebo. Ogunleye claimed that Abdulkareem made repeated unwanted advances, forcibly evicted her from her residence, and confined her to a psychiatric facility for months after she rejected his advances.
Allegations and Investigation Ogunleye took to social media platform TikTok to share her ordeal, sparking widespread attention and prompting an investigation by the Nigerian Army. The Army’s Director of Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, stated that the investigation found no grounds to substantiate Ogunleye’s claims against Abdulkareem.
Discharge and Controversy
Despite the investigation’s findings, Ogunleye was discharged from service on medical grounds, with the Army citing a pre-existing condition that rendered her medically vulnerable. Critics argue that the discharge and alleged detention of Ogunleye, while the accused officers remain unpunished, raises concerns about the Nigerian Army’s handling of sexual harassment allegations and potential violations of human rights. NDLEA Nabs Notorious Drug Baron Behind Multiple Cocaine Shipments to Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
A two-year manhunt has finally come to an end with the arrest of Alhaji Suleiman Ganiu Aremu, aka Barryshine, a wanted drug baron linked to four foiled attempts to export cocaine to Saudi Arabia and Qatar through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Aremu, the Managing Director/CEO of Barryshine Suleiman Nigeria Ltd, was taken into custody on August 26, 2024, after a painstaking investigation by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The drug baron's name first surfaced in November 2022, when a female passenger, Alhaja Ajisegiri Kehinde Sidika, was arrested at the MMIA with 400 grams of cocaine concealed in female footwears. Further investigation revealed that Aremu had hired the drug courier through his brother, Abdullahi Olarenwaju Ramon.
Subsequent arrests and convictions of other drug mules linked to Aremu's cartel led to the eventual blocking of his bank accounts and the tracing of properties in Lagos, including two houses and a hotel.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of the MMIA Strategic Command for their dedication, stating that the arrest demonstrates that the long arm of the law will always catch up with those involved in the criminal trade, no matter how long it takes.
Two of Aremu's associates, Oluwafemi Akande Abidoye and Olanrewaju Abdullahi Ramon, are currently at large and have been declared wanted by the Federal High Court in Lagos. Justice A.M. Lawal of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, has remanded Ayodele Toyosi, the CEO of Reaprite Global Limited and Agrorite Limited, in the Ikoyi Correctional facility pending the hearing of his bail application.
Toyosi is facing an 11-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and stealing to the tune of N600 million and $50,000, brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The case has been adjourned until August 21, 2024, for the hearing of Toyosi's bail application. If found guilty, Toyosi faces a lengthy prison sentence and restitution to the victims of his alleged fraud.
The EFCC's prosecution of Toyosi is part of its efforts to combat investment fraud and protect Nigerians from falling victim to such scams. Source: https://securityngr.com/lagos-investment-scam-efcc-arraigns-man-for-alleged-n600m-50000-fraud/
