Katsina Emirate Council has banned open grazing of animals within the Katsina metropolis and its surrounding communities.

This is coming on the heels of the Federal Government’s opposition to the ban on open grazing by Southern Governors in their meeting in Asaba, Delta State, some months ago.

It came as Kaduna State government confirmed yesterday the death of 25 persons in renewed attacks on four communities of Kauru Local Government Area of the state by bandits, who also attacked some homes at Suleja, Niger State, abducting five persons, including two children.

This is even as one of the abducted students of Government Secondary School, GSS, Chibok, Borno State, and her husband, a Boko Haram-ISWAP terrorist, have surrendered to troops in the North East.

The ban on open grazing in Katsina Emirate was contained in a statement signed by Wakilin Kudin Katsina, Alhaji Abdu Iliyasu, yesterday.

Iliyasu said the directive became effective from Tuesday, August 3, adding that machinery had been put in place for its effective implementation.

Spokesman for the Katsina Emirate Council, Mallam Iro Bindawa said he was out of town and could not comment on the development until he returned.

It will be recalled that Governor Aminu Masari had last month, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved N6.25 billion for the state for a ranching project, adding that N5 billion of the money had already been made available.

In Kaduna, the state government yesterday confirmed the death of 25 persons in attacks on four communities in Kauru Local Government Area of the state.

Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, confirmed this while giving an update on the attacks on Ungwan Magaji, Kishicho, Kigam and Kikoba villages of Kauru Local Government on Tuesday. He also said property worth hundreds of millions of naira were also damaged during the attack.

“The figures bring the total number of those who died in the attack to 25, with three persons injured, 68 farms destroyed and 63 huts burnt,’’ he said.

The commissioner said Governor Nasir el-Rufai had already conveyed his deep condolences to the families of those who died in the attack, prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The government directed the state emergency management agency to conduct an urgent assessment of the affected communities, adding that further developments would be communicated to the public.

Suspected members of the Boko Haram sect on Saturday ambushed security operatives escorting APC stakeholders near Kareto village, who were on their way to Damasak, Mobbar and Abadam Local Government Areas in Nothern Borno to participate in Saturday ward congresses of the party.

Damasak and Abadam shares a border with the Niger Republic and are about a 200km drive from Maiduguri, the state capital.

Sources said, the attack which has claimed some lives including security operatives, hindered the conduct of the exercise in two local government areas, as the delegation withdrew and aborted the journey back to Maiduguri.

All efforts to get confirmation from the police public relations officer, DSP Eket Okon proved abortive at press time.

A warrant of arrest has been issued for Nigeria’s police commissioner Abba Kyari, Peoples Gazette can report based on court documents.

Otis Wright of the United States District Court for the Central District of California ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to track down Mr Kyari and produce him in the United States for his role in a multi-million dollar fraud perpetrated by Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas, a notorious Nigerian fraudster.

Mr Abbas was arrested in Dubai last June and he pleaded guilty to fraud in the U.S. this week. The FBI said Messrs Abbas and Kyari have been friends and were both involved in a conspiracy to launder money.

Mr Kyari was also indicted of receiving bribes from Mr Abbas to arrest a member of the syndicate in Nigeria.

American prosecutors first sought a court warrant to arrest Mr Kyari on February 12, 2021, according to court documents seen by The Gazette. Another warrant was requested on April 29, 2021.

Judge Wright’s permission for the FBI to arrest Mr Kyari and hold him in U.S. custody was unsealed on July 26.

Mr Kyari in a hurried statement denied allegations of conspiracy with Hushpuppi, saying he only met him two years ago and did not benefit financially from the fraudster.

A three-month-old baby and 12 adults have been reportedly shot dead by gunmen in separate incidents in some villages of the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The gunmen were said to have opened fire on travellers on Uikpam – Umenger road around 3pm on Tuesday, where five people, including the infant, lost their lives.

It was learnt that the remaining eight people were killed at Branch Ude at 10pm on the same day

The Local Government Council Chairman of Guma, Caleb Aba, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, noted that there was a burial in Torkula and people who were coming back from the burial came under attack

“It is true that there was an attack yesterday (Tuesday). There was a burial in Torkula and people who were coming back from the burial came under attack and about five people were killed

“At about 10pm, yesterday there was another attack at Branch Ude where about eight people were killed, bringing the total to 13 people killed only yesterday

“Two people were injured by the information I received and they are now receiving treatment in the hospital.

A source disclosed that he was forced to turn his vehicle back to Makurdi, when he observed that the vehicle in front of him was fired at severally, on his way to Umenger for a political meeting with some friends

He said the driver of the vehicle dodged the bullets and sped off to a safer location

“The herdsmen blocked the road, and opened fire on a Toyota Picnic, killing a 3 month-old baby who was shot in the chest, and his mother was shot on her lap

“My colleague, who was directly behind the Toyota Picnic on seeing the herders shot at the car in front of him, turned and returned to Uikpam

“The herders didn’t stop there, a certain Terver from Uvir, who was conveying his wife, had their life taken from them. A certain Solomon Kumaiin was butchered by the killers

“The body of Terver and his wife were immediately taken to a mortuary in Daudu, while the injured were brought to BSUTH for treatment,” he narrated
