oladeledave: I was refering to the background image, if you can only blur it a little so your letters and characters can be more visible, because some vision impaired readers may visit your site and not able to read well cos of the background image.
As for the amazon affiliate products, its cool since you are promoting mummy products. I dont know from which country you promote your blog, but as it seems according to your blog address i think its in the UK. But according to your contents your audience are likely to be from Nigeria, so I will suggest that you also promote products from Naija local ecommerce stores.
Thanks OK thanks, I will consider doing that when next I am updating my website. You are right re my location but my audience so far has been worldwide. Do you have any connections with any ecommerce stores? I have spoken with some book retailers in Nigeria and they needed me to send them the books free of charge and they will get in touch with me if they make any sales. I am not particularly happy with those terms. I would love to discuss with people who are interested in buying outright, even at wholesale prices. All my books have had amazing reviews and are selling everyday online on Amazon, so I know selling the books would not be a problem. Something I was recently made aware of (though I am not certain how accurate this is) is that you cannot download ebooks from Amazon from Nigeria. Is this correct? |

oladeledave: You have a nice website with good template. Consider posting on a daily basis, maybe at least 2 - 4 posts per day. make sure your featured image is also showing the full lenght, there is a post in which the face of someone is cut off. thank you for your feedback. it is interesting you say I should increase the amount of posts I do. I post about 5 times a week and I already think it is a bit much doing so. I read that some people do once a week. In your opinion, what is the benefit of posting multiple times a day? please send me the link to the picture where the person's face was cut off. many thanks for your time, I really appreciate it |

oladeledave: You have a nice blog, and I like the layout.
you might considering whitewashing the background image just a little because its becoming the focal point of the blog.Readers can hardly view your content in as much as you have white letters.
You might also want to do a keyword research to ensure that your website is ranking for some certain keywords, since your niche is less competitive here in Nigeria it will be easier for your website to come out top on Google search.
I see you have amazon affiliate account, you might want to promote products related to your website content, which is ebooks. you can promote kindle books, I am aware that commission on ebooks might be little as compared to gadgets but you still have the chance of selling 10 out of 10 rather than 1 out of 10.
Dave dvdpaddy@gmail.com Admin www.techybloggers.com Thanks for your feedback . . . what do you mean by whitewashing the background and how do I do that? Yes I promote mostly kindle books . . . and some mommy related products but that is only in one category of my blog. Did you see a product that contrasts with my blog? |

radragan: What do you mean by "trailer jam someone"? I'm not familiar with the expression.
As for SumoMe, yes you will need to set up Google Analaytics first, but after, just go into the SumoStore fron your website, and select the GA feature. It's free. When you install and open it, you will need to link it to your GA account. You will then need to check the small white box near the top of the SumoMe screen that says to check if you do not have GA tracking code installed on your site. This will allow SumoMe to instal GA on your site without the use of hard coding or additional plugins.
And yes I did get a chance to read the book. I thought it was interesting in that it's being narrated from a child's POV, but at the same time offering so much insight, wisdom and emotion. It made me recall (or try to recall) my own thoughts and feelings about my mother growing up. There's a story there, but also lessons in ethics and cultural significance/similarities. Comparing Katara and water-bending to the worshipers of Yemoja was a nice touch.
Are all of the Yetunde stories connected through a single story arc, or do they all feature different tales around the same character? OK I will look into it, thank you for being so helpful I'm glad you liked it . . . would you mind leaving me a review on Amazon and goodreads? No the stories are not connected so far. Different stories from Yetunde and her mom. It's like reading a TV show or say reading harry potter grow |

radragan: I'm not sure if there are plugins by Google to add GA to your site, however, if there are, I personally don't have any experience with any of them. I try to use as few plugins as possible because they eat up resources and can negatively impact your page load times.
I always insert my tracking code directly into the theme's header core files itself. This way it not displays on every page, but you also don't have to install extra plugins to manage this simple function.
If you do want to use a plugin, I recommend using SumoMe. They have a free tool for Google analytics that will allow you to connect your site to GA without any coding. You just have to set your preferences so that the plugin will insert the tracking code for you if you have not done it yourself.
As of right now, I only have about 312 registered users. Which isn't a lot by any measure, but these are subscribers from the first iteration of the N&FT website. So I'm testing things to see how they respond before re-opening registration or adding a member's only section to the site. In the beginning, the motivation was purely to show them how to market and sell ebooks, so people signed up for the courses and trainings I offered.
Now, since the site focuses more on writing a story, specifically my own story, than it does marketing and selling, I'm worried I will lose much of my exisiting user base, and will have to start anew. Which is fine, I would just prefer not to.
As I track behavior, I use a combination of heatmaps, analytical data to monitor their page views, what they read, how long they read, and where they click on the site. (SumoMe also has a heatmap built into their plugin as well.) I then use that data to have my team write scripts so that when a certain user logs into the site, more of the content they interact with is presented to them immediately on the landing page that loads after signing in.
It's a lengthy, and sometimes expensive process, but if it encourages more engagement and conversions, then it's an investment well made in my opinion.
And by online speed networking event, what do you mean? I'm open to events of any kind, but I don't have much time to spare at the moment on account of my recent push to redesign and relaunch my websites. But if it's something I can manage, and peaks my interest, I'm in. woahhhhhh trailer jam someone it's aiight, I kinda understand what you are saying. Dec 2015, not a single word of it would have made sense to me Ok I have sumome, will look into integrating GA. Just to clarify though, I will need to register with GA separately first, then copy and paste the code into sumome right? Drop me a line via my website, I will explain the event a bit more via email. I just need time to start putting it all together but time is a scarce commodity. Thanks for your comments though PS: Did you get a chance to read my book? what did you think of it? |
Webmasters › Re: Question On Website Stats by SegilolaSalami(op): 5:14pm On May 18, 2016 |
radragan: I agree with yomalex.
Different programs/software will use different algorithms, and will not only track/measure different things, they quantify the data differently as well. What one might consider a page view, another may not. Which is why I think it's a good idea to use more than one analytics tracker, but no more than 3. I use 2.
I use Google Analytics and Mixpanel for my analytics needs. Google Analytics allows me monitor and record traffic volumes and behavior, while Mixpanel allows me to identify and track individual users when they register for accounts. This allows me to create an user experience more suitable to that individual. Kind of in the same way Amazon presents different product offers to you based on your preferences and browsing history. Thanks for your detailed reply. So it seems the general consensus is to go with Google Analytics and forget the others. Is there a plugin by Google for GA? I am not technical so not sure how to install codes and I don't want to contact the original designer. No budget for it. For my adsense, there's a plugin by Google and all I had to do was download and activate and within minutes ads were running. Out of interest, how many registered users do you have for your website? What motivated people to register? When you track user behaviour, how do you create ideal user experience? PS: I am in the process of setting up an online speed networking event that is author-centric. Is that something you would be interested in? |

Hi everyone,
I am super confused right now, so I need you if you do know the answer to explain some things to me
I use the plugin SlimStat for my website analytics. For the month of May till this minute as I am writing, it says that my website has 1400 pages views, 760 visits
I went to back up my website, so that I can update wordpress, so nosed about at the stats there Analog stats says: #reqs 116000 #pages 26000
Webalizer says: 16000 visits, 29000 pages
AWStats says: 3300 unique visitors, 13000 number of visits, 52000 pages, 100000 hits
They are all so freaking different. Who understands them? Why are they so different even though it is for the same website? Which gives the most reliable data? Should I be monitoring them?
Thanks in advance for reading and explaining |

radragan: For me, I use ads to test ideas. I invest a handful of dollars a month to create ads with various titles and descriptions. I'm looking to see what people respond the most to.
Then, once I've figured out the kind of ad that generates the click-thrus and page views I want, I create Facebook and social media content around those same ideas. The idea is that it will trigger interest and encourage social shares, which is much cheaper than buying more ads.
And you aren't the first person to say that about my site. Which is why I've held off adding new content, so that I can shift all of my "instructional" content to a single page, and then have more fantasy/science fiction related content in the blog and on the home page. So there will definitely be more fantasy and story related content on the site moving forward.
I've downloaded a copy of your book. I'll dive into it later today and let you know what I think. I plan to have the first snippet of my series published this week. Webmasters › Re: Freelance Job Opportunities Insight by SegilolaSalami: 9:24am On May 17, 2016 |
PGON: My Fiverr account is one year today (10th May, 2016). I decided to make this post to encourage those seeking for jobs in Nigeria to have a rethink; maybe freelance is the best option. Nigeria has unemployment and underemployment problems. It is unfortunate that the government does not see this as a very critical issue. There are so many graduates, out there doing nothing, not because they don’t have talent that can fetch them enough money but because they don’t know how to apply their talent to make a good living. The internet has globalized job opportunities. You don’t have to wait for Government or other private companies within Nigeria to create jobs. Optimize your talent and look for jobs globally via the internet. There are millions of opportunities when you look outside the boarders of this country (Via the internet). The fortunate reality is that Nigerians are very talented. Politics may have done some damages on the education system and other factors but the core reality is that Nigerians are so gifted; they thrive in all conditions.
It is true that there are lots of Nigerians already earning thousands of Dollars online legitimately via freelance and other sources. My Starter Fiverr statistics below:
Total Earning for the period of one year is $4,560. At exchange rate of N250 by dollar. Total = N 1,140,000. Some Nigerians are making about $1000 – $3000 /monthly or more. Lets break it down to monthly earning. Average monthly Fiverr earning = N95,000. The truth is that about 50% of Nigerian civil servant do not earn up to N95,000 monthly. N95, 000 monthly may be so little to you but it is very good start for some.
What do I need to start freelance.
You need a laptop that is connected to the internet and time. How do I start.
Register at any of the freelance website. Fiverr.com You can Google and read reviews about other freelance sites, I use Fiverr at the moment. Which service should I offer?
Anything you can do very well, it is not about the course you studied in school, it is about what you can do with the knowledge you have. Go through Fiverr home page, view the Gigs offered by other seller, you may be inspired by what people offer as service. How much should I charge? Fiverr allows a minimum of 5$ per Gig. You set the maximum based on the required service. My average charge per Order is $173. It is true that at the very beginning I charged $5 and $10 for few orders before adding more $$$ based on the nature of the task. Well done you, what services do you offer on fiverr? |

radragan: First off, thanks for visiting my site!
To explain, this website initially began as a personal project. The original concept was to only blog about my experiences as I worked to self-publish my first book. It was just something I was doing in my spare time on weekends.
After a few readers wanted to know more about my process, so I took the site down to revise and rebuild it. The site you see now is the latest version, and not the site it was 4 months ago. Rather than treating it as a hobby, I am gradually shifting the site to become a more marketable platform. One that is primed for growth and monetization.
It's focus is threefold: 1.) I use it to document my progress as I work to write and self-publish my first book and fiction series. Sharing everything I learn as I go. Good or bad.
2.) It's also where I share the findings from my research. The Internet is filled with a vast amount of tips, strategies, and best practices that promise everything from teaching people how to write better and faster, to becoming better marketers, to building an audience. I'm going to test as many of these strategies as possible, then publish my findings to my blog for free.
3.) There's a lot of talk from "experts" who make it seem as though, all you have to do is pursue something you're passionate about, and success will drop into your lap. That's not true, even in the least bit. So I'm using my blog to show a small group of subscribers on my email list what it really takes (and means) to follow your dreams.
The trick, however, will be to figure out how to successfully blend all 3 of these aspects into the site so cleverly, that it appears as one cohesive objective. It's not impossible, as I've done it before in the past, however, it is extremely difficult to do. Right now, I am off to a rough start, and that's fine. Very few ideas launch perfectly. So I'm going to give it 3 months to see how it goes, and if the site is still struggling, I will need to change tactics and alter its focus.
To drive traffic to the site, I'm using Google Adwords, and publishing write-ups to sites like Nairaland and other forums online. As for building my email list, I'm not too focused on that at this point, as I already have a list of subscribers from previous versions of the site. But I do have numerous places throughout the site to capture emails and grow my list should anyone be interested. I'm just not actively promoting things currently, but I will soon.
Thanks again for commenting and viewing my site, and yours is nicely done as well. How long have you been blogging/writing? Is this your first site, or just the latest version of your work?
Looking forward to your response.
Be blessed! Glad you like my site, it's the first one and I have been blogging for about two months now. I love fantasy and when I land on your homepage it has that exact feel to it. When I navigate out, I expect to see fantasy related stuff, so it disappoints when I don't. Thanks for sharing your tips though. I have focussed a bit on my RSS feed and that is slow growing my subscriber list, even though they don't actually visit my website. Not found much success with ads, so not bothering any more. As a fellow author, would you mind reading and reviewing my latest book? My book Yetunde: An Ode to My Mother follows baby Yetunde as she narrates her mother's ode to her grandmother. It is free to download in all platforms: Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/603700Amazon UK: http://amzn.to/1R7OVF3Amazon US: http://amzn.to/1S7GM66Book page: http://www.segilolasalami.co.uk/yetunde-an-ode-to-my-mother/Kobo https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/yetunde-an-ode-to-my-mother-1iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/en/book/yetunde-an-ode-to-my-mother/id1072179529?mt=11B&N http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/yetunde-segilola-salami/1123187693Many thanks for your time and kind regards, Segilola |

brianromel: Hi Segilola
You have to know that sometimes the stats that wordpress and some plugins offer may be a tad wrong.
I didn't notice this earlier, till i switched to google analytics.
for instance did you know that when you visit your own site wordpress stats counts you as a visit.
Now here is where it gets funny. what if your working on a page or post, each time you preview or refresh a page, its counted as well.
Analytics doesnt do this as it sees your ip as one view and one view alone. That's quite interesting to know. Thanks a lot. I am trying to make time to find a Google plugin to install Google Analytics. I am not very technical and want something dummy proof to use. What do you suggest? Before we digress completely, any other tips on how to drive traffic to my blog? |

vicky6055: you are heading into great competition with an entertainment blog... But if that is what you like doing then no problem
You know the thing wrong with all of us bloggers is that we dont think about our readers.... I mean the greatest way to get traffic is to post meaning fully content that readers would want to share... and this will get you loads of traffic
But we dont do this
You can use nairaland to get traffic Including twitter
Other ways include Creating a contest on your blog Creating a post in which you ask questions and winner take a price (recharge card)( it helps you keep your readers glued to your blog) Paying people to share your content (like 100 recharge card for person who shares 5 times)
There are more...
Also please change your template.... Please change it Do you think if I posted a contest on here asking people to download and leave a review on my ebook on Amazon would work? say if I offered a prize of N5000 recharge card |
