The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu did not contact Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde more than 50 days after the abduction of schoolchildren in the state, describing the situation as evidence of a deepening leadership crisis. In a post on X titled *“Worsening Leadership Crisis in the Country Now Evident,”* Obi criticised the Federal Government’s response to insecurity, accusing the Tinubu administration of lacking compassion and urgency in addressing the plight of kidnapped victims. According to Obi, he had spoken publicly on two occasions, including appealing directly to the abductors to release the children. He also said he contacted Governor Makinde twice to express solidarity, stressing that the incident should be treated as a national tragedy rather than a state issue. “The government and people of Oyo State, more than 50 days after the abduction of the schoolchildren without any tangible effort toward their rescue, should rightly feel bitter and abandoned,” Obi said. The former Anambra State governor disclosed that during a visit to Ibadan on July 3 alongside economist Prof. Pat Utomi, he met with Makinde to discuss the security situation and was surprised to learn that the governor had not received a phone call from President Tinubu since the abduction. “But, to my utmost shock, I discovered that Governor Seyi Makinde had not received a single call from President Bola Tinubu,” Obi stated. Drawing a comparison with the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction, Obi recalled that Tinubu was among those who criticised then-President Goodluck Jonathan for delaying contact with the affected governor. He argued that the current administration had witnessed more than 13 school kidnappings, yet the president had allegedly failed to personally engage the governor of the affected state weeks after the Oyo incident. Obi described the development as unacceptable and maintained that it reflected a collapse of governance under the current administration. He urged President Tinubu to either resign or refrain from seeking re-election in 2027, insisting that the call was motivated by patriotism rather than politics. https://thesun.ng/oyo-abduction-tinubu-failed-to-contact-makinde-after-50-days-peter-obi/?

The Independent National Electoral Commission has restored the Nigeria Democratic Congress’ access to its candidate nomination portal, allowing the party to upload the names of its National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson and presidential candidate, Peter Obi, despite the ongoing legal battle over the party’s status. Dickson disclosed the development in a post on his X account on Tuesday. He described it as a positive step after the party filed a notice of appeal and an application for stay of execution against last week’s judgment of the Federal High Court in Lokoja. He said the appeal and accompanying applications had been served on the electoral commission with a covering letter urging it to act in accordance with the law. According to him, the NDC remains a duly registered political party and has validly conducted its primaries under INEC’s supervision. “Today, the NDC has filed an appeal against the ruling as well as a stay of execution/injunction, which has been served with a covering letter to the INEC chairman and his team to do what is right according to law and what is legally sensible. “The Nigeria Democratic Congress has come to stay and remains a duly registered party in Nigeria which has participated in all the political processes so far. My name and that of the presidential candidate have been uploaded to the INEC portal, while that of the vice presidential candidate will be done tomorrow upon completion of the deposition. The process is also ongoing for other candidates,” he stated. The Senator urged party members not to panic, noting that there was still sufficient time to complete the nomination process within INEC’s timetable. “In accordance with the INEC timetable, which we have religiously abided by, we have between now and the 11th of next month to upload all National Assembly candidates, while those of governors and State Houses of Assembly will end on the 17th of July. “So there is enough time for all candidates’ names to be submitted to INEC and there is no reason for anyone to panic,” he added. https://punchng.com/inec-restores-ndc-nomination-portal-access-says-dickson/?

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has challenged his accusers to provide evidence that he misappropriated funds donated to the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections. Obi made the statement on Tuesday during an exclusive interview on Nevon Media hosted by Oseni Rufai. He was responding to allegations that he and human rights activist Aisha Yesufu diverted donations made to the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 polls. Dismissing the claims as baseless, Obi questioned the existence of the account from which the funds were allegedly taken. “I don’t go by people talking nonsensical things and listen to them. They said that we took ₦10 billion or $30 million from the Labour Party’s account. Where is the account?” he asked. The former Anambra State governor said he was compiling a list of individuals making such allegations and would challenge them to substantiate their claims. “I’m going to include every accuser very soon in the list of people I want to come out and prove that I took money from the Labour Party’s account or was involved in any financial mismanagement,” he said. Obi further declared that he would withdraw from political campaigning if anyone could prove that he took even a fraction of the party’s donations. “Look, if anyone can prove that I took one per cent of Labour Party donations, I will stop campaigning,” he stated. https://politicsnigeria.com/2026/06/17/prove-i-took-1-of-labour-party-donations-ill-stop-campaigning-peter-obi/

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that if elected, he will deliver peace to those who want it and war to those who want it. Obi stated this on Tuesday during an interview on the Nevon HQ podcast, which is hosted by journalist and media personality Rufai Oseni. He was responding to questions about how he would deal with insecurity if elected president of Nigeria. I’m going to talk with everybody. In uniting the country, anybody who wants peace, I will talk and negotiate with them. But anybody who wants war, we will go to war. “If you want to be part of this New Nigeria we are trying to build, that is possible, we can be together, but if not, you will face the consequence of your action. “We have got to a point where we have to tell ourselves the truth. Nobody will be left behind. There will be inclusiveness. The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume has said that the 2027 presidential election is going to be as tough as the World Wrestling Entertainment, WWE. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the politician was reminded of the storm building up against his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, with the likes of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde all in the race Asked if the APC and President Bola Tinubu can withstand the storm that is coming in 2027, he said, “I am not that worried about it, but at the same time, I don’t take opponents for granted. I have said this severally on TV, and that is the mistake most of us are making, especially those around Mr President: having problems telling him the facts. We are going to struggle it out together; it can be hard like the WWE; it’s going to be a tough fight.” “As I said, even when I made the statement that we are going to reciprocate what the president did to us, many people that I didn’t expect to call me, called and shouted at me. The president is my president, he is in my party, we’re going to struggle it out together, and this is not the first time, Peter Obi has tried before, Atiku has tried before. Who else again? President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will intensify efforts to ease the economic hardship facing citizens while remaining committed to defeating insecurity and securing the release of all persons held captive across the country. The assurance was conveyed by George Akume during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration. The service, themed “God of Hope, Actualise Our Dreams,” was attended by several dignitaries, including Godswill Akpabio, Benjamin Kalu, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Didi Walson-Jack. Delivering President Tinubu’s message, Akume congratulated Nigerians on 27 uninterrupted years of democratic rule since 1999, describing the milestone as a reflection of the resilience and sacrifices of citizens who fought for the restoration of democracy. He paid tribute to the heroes of the June 12 struggle, noting that many endured persecution, injuries and even death in pursuit of democratic governance. According to the SGF, President Tinubu remains committed to fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities and will intensify efforts to reduce the socio-economic challenges confronting Nigerians through the delivery of sustainable democratic dividends. Acknowledging the hardship facing many households, Akume said the government was fully aware of the economic difficulties, insecurity, kidnappings and displacement affecting communities across the country. Government is sensitive to all these pains, shares in these pains and has heard your cries,” he said, adding that the President was addressing the challenges with compassion and a strong sense of responsibility. On security, Akume stressed that protecting lives and property remains a top priority of the Federal Government. He described recent attacks and abductions as painful reminders that more work remains to be done. He assured Nigerians that the safe return of all persons in captivity remains a national priority and said security agencies are receiving the necessary support to secure communities and preserve the nation’s territorial integrity. The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” he declared. With political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections beginning to gather momentum, the SGF urged Nigerians to reject violence, hate campaigns and divisive rhetoric, warning that democracy should never become a battleground. He specifically appealed to young Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used for political violence, thuggery, misinformation campaigns, ethnic abuse or religious intolerance. “Do not rent out your conscience for money, drugs, political patronage or online applause. Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary convenience,” he said. Akume also called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, the media and families to promote tolerance, peaceful coexistence and responsible conduct as the country approaches another election cycle. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance, interfaith harmony and peaceful engagement with the international community, insisting that despite existing challenges, the country’s democratic institutions remain resilient. https://verynigerian.com/we-will-not-surrender-to-terrorists-bandits-tinubu-assures-nigerians/

The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has penned a tribute to the founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, on the occasion of his 85th birthday. In a statement posted on X late Saturday, Obi described the octogenarian cleric as a global icon of spiritual leadership and a “faithful father in the faith” whose life has left an indelible mark on generations across the world. He wrote, “On behalf of my family, I join millions of believers and well-wishers across the world in celebrating your 85th birthday, Papa Kumuyi. For decades, you have exemplified integrity, humility, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel. Through your teachings, leadership, and personal example, you have inspired and transformed countless lives across generations and nations. The former Anambra State Governor offered prayers for the cleric’s continued vitality, saying, “As you mark this milestone, I pray that Almighty God grants you continued good health, renewed strength, and greater wisdom to keep impacting lives and advancing His Kingdom.” “Happy 85th Birthday, Papa Kumuyi. May your light continue to shine brightly,” Obi concluded. President Bola Tinubu has similarly celebrated Kumuyi, describing him as a remarkable man of God whose unwavering faith and dedication have shaped one of the country’s most influential Christian ministries for over five decades. https://punchng.com/obi-hails-kumuyi-at-85-calls-him-faithful-father-in-faith/

The Federal Government has commenced plans to repatriate more than 1,000 Nigerians from South Africa amid growing concerns over rising anti-immigrant sentiments and renewed xenophobic tensions in the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that screening for a voluntary repatriation exercise began on Thursday, with officials expecting over 1,000 Nigerians to participate in the programme. A spokesperson for the ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the final figure of returnees had not yet been confirmed but would likely exceed 1,000. Total figure not out yet. We are expecting over 1,000 persons,” he said. The development comes as reports of renewed hostility toward foreign nationals continue to emerge in parts of South Africa, Africa’s most industrialised economy but one grappling with high unemployment and social tensions. The Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria said it had negotiated waivers with South African authorities to allow migrants with immigration-related offences to leave voluntarily rather than face detention. South Africa has in recent weeks witnessed protests and threats targeting undocumented migrants, raising fears of a wider escalation of xenophobic violence. Similar repatriation efforts have also been carried out by other West African countries, including Ghana, which recently returned hundreds of its nationals from South Africa under a similar arrangement. Authorities in South Africa have maintained that enforcement actions are aimed at undocumented migrants, while urging citizens not to resort to vigilante attacks. The renewed tensions have once again sparked continental debate over migration, unemployment, and the challenges facing regional integration across Africa. https://verynigerian.com/nigeria-to-repatriate-over-1000-citizens-from-south-africa-amid-xenophobia-fears/

Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri said 2027 presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi displayed political foresight by resigning from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Omokri said this in a Facebook post on Sunday, a day after Obi clinched the NDC ticket. Peter Obi announced his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on May 3, citing worsening internal crises and an increasingly toxic political climate within the party as the reasons for his departure. The former Anambra governor subsequently joined the NDC, eventually emerging its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 polls. Omokri, a known critic of Obi, said the NDC candidate was right to quit the ADC, noting that he could not have beaten former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the party’s presidential ticket. He further said Obi was right to have quit given the internal crises that could derail his presidential bid on the ADC platform. The diplomat said, “People don’t seem to realise that Peter Obi may not have left the African Democratic Congress because he was afraid of losing its primaries. Yes, he is eager to be President. But he is not unintelligent. There was no way he could have defeated Waziri Atiku Abubakar, given the realities in the David Mark faction of the party to which they were both members. He must have known from the get-go that he would lose the Presidential primaries. In fact, many informed people believe that he was banking on being the running mate to the eventual winner of the Presidential primaries. What may have made him leave the party was likely the factionalism within the party into three groups: the David Mark faction, the Nafiu Bala bloc, and the Dumebi Kachikwu camp. The fact of the matter is that as of today, Sunday, May 31, 2026, nobody is sure which faction of the ADC will eventually prevail in court. And Peter Obi, to his credit, knows that it is a very big risk for anyone to be the Presidential, gubernatorial, National Assembly, or State Assembly candidate of any faction of the African Democratic Congress when the court has not yet adjudicated the case brought by the Nafiu Bala clique against the other offshoots. If the court rules in favour of the Nafiu Bala faction, would that not automatically invalidate ALL primaries conducted by the David Mark and Dumebi Kachikwu factions? You have to give it to Mr. Obi. He had some political foresight, anticipating the likely consequences of emerging as a candidate for a factionalised party. Which, I believe, is why he jumped ship and traded uncertainty for certainty. https://thesun.ng/leaving-adc-shows-peter-obis-political-foresight-omokri/

Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and running mate to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that Peter Obi will emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election. Kwankwaso made the declaration on Friday during the affirmation of consensus aspirants of the party in Kano State, describing the process as a demonstration of unity and internal democracy within the party structure He said the emergence of consensus candidates across constituencies reflected strong cohesion among party members, noting that the exercise was conducted peacefully despite the large number of aspirants in several areas. According to him, some constituencies had more than 10 aspirants, but stakeholders were able to reach agreement through consensus building. “I’m talking about Peter Obi. He will be flying our flag, and by the grace of God, on May 29, exactly one year from now, he will have been sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Kwankwaso said. He commended party leaders, elders and supporters in Kano State for ensuring a smooth selection process across all constituencies, describing the outcome as a product of cooperation and political maturity. At the event, former Kano State deputy governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, was affirmed as the party’s governorship candidate, while Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna emerged as the senatorial candidate for Kano Central. Other candidates were also affirmed for the House of Representatives, State House of Assembly and various senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kwankwaso appreciated members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the CRC, Lafiya Jari groups and the New Nigeria Peoples Party for their support and commitment throughout the exercise. Earlier, the chairman of the party’s primaries committee, Mainasara Abubakar Sani, commended the conduct of the exercise, describing it as peaceful and well-organised. Speaking after his affirmation, Gwarzo pledged to run an inclusive and open-door administration if elected governor in 2027, while urging youths to remain committed to the party’s objectives ahead of the polls. https://leadership.ng/2027-peter-obi-will-be-sworn-in-as-president-kwankwaso/

chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Marcellinus Okechukwu Nlemigbo, has advised the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, to exercise patience over his presidential ambition and allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete a second term in office. Nlemigbo, popularly known as MARCON, said Obi possesses the qualities to lead Nigeria but noted that attaining the presidency requires patience, political strategy and perseverance. It took President Tinubu 20 years after his governorship to ascend to the throne as President. Mr Peter Obi is quite eligible and qualified for the presidential seat, but there is a process to get there,” he stated. The business mogul and member of the Imo State Council of Elders therefore urged Ndigbo and other eligible voters across the country to shun ethnic and tribal sentiments in the 2027 presidential election and instead support Tinubu’s re-election bid. According to him, “the Southeast should vote massively for President Tinubu because he is working assiduously to liberate the nation from the rot he met three years ago.” Nlemigbo, a former Imo State Chairman of the APC, spoke while briefing newsmen in Owerri on the conduct of the party primaries in the state. He insisted that the presidency was “not rocket science but something that requires patience and hard work to secure.” The APC stalwart argued that the nation’s economic challenges could have been worse without what he described as the visionary and pragmatic leadership of President Tinubu. The economic crunch could have worsened without the visionary pragmatic approach of the President and his effective management and utilisation of the nation’s lean resources,” he said. On insecurity, Nlemigbo dismissed claims that the Federal Government had failed to address the situation, maintaining that insecurity had become a global challenge. “Insecurity is not peculiar to us as a nation. It has become a global issue. People who are greedy, do not value human lives, do not have the fear of God and are rabidly fanatical about their religion are behind most of these problems,” he added. He also commended Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and the Imo APC Chairman, Austine Onyedebelu, for ensuring what he described as a hitch-free conduct of the party primaries in the state. Speaking on the Imo Charter of Equity, which rotates the governorship seat among Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe zones, Nlemigbo disclosed that the Imo State Council of Elders had resolved that Owerri zone should produce the successor to Governor Uzodimma. “On the Imo Charter of Equity, the Council of Elders has settled for the Owerri zone to produce the next governor after Uzodimma,” he stated https://thenationonlineng.net/2027-allow-tinubu-complete-second-term-peter-obi-told/

A 2027 Democratic Leadership Alliance presidential aspirant, Mrs Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, has resigned from the party and demanded a refund of her presidential nomination fee. Busari-Akinnadeju, in her letter to the National Chairman of the party, obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria in Akure on Friday, said her exit was premised on the party’s inability to conduct a free and fair primary. The DLA chieftain said it was worrisome that the party leadership settled for a consensus candidate, a decision she described as opposed to and inimical to the growth of the party. I write to notify you, and through you the National Working Committee, of my resignation as a member of the Democratic Leadership Alliance with immediate effect from the date of this letter. I do not resign in defeat. I resign because I am not permitted a fair contest, and I will not lend my name to a process that has abandoned its own rules. I therefore respectfully request the following: written confirmation of receipt of this resignation; a refund of the presidential nomination fee I paid, the consideration for which, a fair and lawful primary, the party has not provided. I also ask for the return of any personal documents, records, or materials of mine that remain in the possession of the party or any of its officers. “I record my gratitude to members of the party across the country who gave their time and hope to the work we shared. They joined for the right reasons. They are not the cause of this decision, and they deserve far better than the conduct of those who now lead them,” she said. She said she would not relent in her commitment to the presidential race and to the “Dare Nigeria” mantra. My commitment to the 2027 presidential race and the Dare Agenda, and to the millions of Nigerians who have answered the call of #DareNigeria, is undimmed and is, in fact, strengthened by what I have witnessed. I will continue that work on a platform worthy of it. Nothing that has happened in recent weeks has changed my conviction. It has only confirmed why the change I am running to bring is necessary,” she said. She said she invested her time and resources with the belief that the party would offer a credible and lawful platform for the leadership Nigeria needs in 2027. The record speaks plainly, and I set it out here so that it is not forgotten. “A party that cannot conduct a fair primary among its own aspirants cannot credibly promise a fair country to its citizens,” she said. NAN reports that Busari-Akinnadeju hails from Akungba Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State. https://punchng.com/2027-dla-female-presidential-hopeful-resigns-demands-refund-over-unfair-primary/?

The Obidient Movement has urged members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, to ensure that Peter Obi emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in today’s primary election. Yunusa Tanko, the Obidient Movement’s National Coordinator, urged its members and that of the NDC to unite, be disciplined, and stay focused behind Obi. In a statement he signed, Tanko said: “As we proceed into the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries scheduled for today, May 29, 2026, we, members of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, wish to make a sincere but strong appeal to all NDC party aspirants and members for unity, discipline, maturity, sacrifice, and focus. We must remember that our convergence under the NDC is deliberate and strategic. Our collective objective is to ensure that the candidature of His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi is on the ballot for the 2027 general elections. Tanko urged members not to allow individual ambition to make them fail in achieving their collective resolve. He said: “Our mission is to rescue Nigeria through people-oriented leadership built on character, competence, capacity, commitment, and compassion. As we embark on the NDC party primaries today, we must bear in mind that it will not be possible for all contestants to emerge victorious. In every democratic process, winners and losers will emerge. We therefore anticipate that there could be setbacks and pushbacks arising from competing political interests. We must be guided accordingly and demonstrate sportsmanship at all times. As loyal party members, we must not permit temporary disappointments arising from political aspirations to derail our mission and the unity we have carefully built. We want to encourage everyone contesting that any concerns, grievances, or observations arising from today’s exercise should be addressed through the party’s internal mechanisms. We must avoid resorting to court litigation, as this is inimical to the progress of our collective resolve.” Tanko reminded aspirants that NDC’s political opponents are paying close attention in order to take advantage of any internal party crises ‘we may experience.” Shortly after the primaries, our attention must be directed toward closing ranks and working together to achieve our collective mission of securing victory in the 2027 presidential elections and building a new Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody. A New Nigeria is Possible,” he added. https://dailypost.ng/2026/05/29/ndc-primary-ensure-peter-obi-becomes-presidential-candidate-obidient-movement-to-members/

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has alleged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was being used by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a political platform to undermine the possibility of a Southern presidency. Akindele made the claim while reacting to comments from the Obidient Movement, which described Labour Party’s Peter Obi as politically wise for not participating in the ADC presidential primary and for reportedly leaving the party for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). He argued that Atiku had previously attempted to leverage the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to regain power and return leadership to the North but was unsuccessful. In a post on his Facebook page, Ayekooto wrote: ObiDENTs say Obi is a wise politician by not contesting in the ADC Primary but instead ran away from the party. I disagree with them. The most foolish ignorance of any politician is not to know from the beginning that ADC was Atiku’s vehicle to truncate the Southern presidential term. It was an arrangement to return power to the North after 8 years of Buhari and 4 years of Tinubu. He had earlier used PDP but failed. So, Obi would have been wise if he didn’t join ADC at all. And the most foolish thing he did was to decamp from LP and he ended up in NDC. This clearly shows that Alex Otti is a sensible man and Pita is a foolish man to the core. https://politicsnigeria.com/2026/05/27/apc-chieftain-alleges-adc-was-used-by-atiku-to-undermine-southern-presidency-blames-obi/

The former Publicity Secretary for Anambra State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Nnamdi Nwangwu has described the current repeated anti North narratives against the Presidential Candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr Peter Obi as a piece of falsehood. Mr Nwangwu who is now a member of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) stated this while speaking with journalists in his Uruagu-Nnewi residence. He said as a matter of fact that the anti North narratives are mere campaign of calumny against the person of Mr Peter Obi which according to him is a dead on arrival project. The former PDP image maker traced the campaign to the camp of elements who are not favourably disposed to the growing acceptance of Mr Peter Obi across the country. He pointed out that the people who are peddling the falsehood have discovered that Mr Peter Obi is clean in and out, and as such resorted to falsehood to blackmail a personality who has come to rescue Nigeria and Nigerians from clutches of individuals who never meant well for them. Mr Nwangwu noted that the presidential hopeful for NDC at different times had interactive sessions with the non indigenes in Anambra State when he was the piloting the affairs of State as a governor. Mr Peter Obi did not only visited the Hausa communities to identify with them, he regularly had audience with them at Governor’s Lodges in Amawbia and Onitsha to give them a sense of belonging. This rare privilege was not limited to the Hausa people alone, other non indigenes living in Anambra State, including the Yoruba community and even persons from other States of the federation are all beneficiaries of the unique privilege of having dinner with Mr Peter Obi at different times during his tenure as the Governor. It is during those meetings that Mr Peter Obi normally unfold social welfare packages for the destitute individuals and unaccompanied minors from different parts of the country who faced difficult economic conditions. Anambra State has always been the Light of Nation and Mr Peter Obi used the occasion of his administration to really shine the light of the State home and abroad and of course non indigenes living in Anambra State, including the Northern elements, benefitted immensely from the Light.” He asserted. Nwangwu recalled that Mr Obi maintained cordial relations with Northern and Muslim communities in Anambra throughout his eight years in office making it possible for them to benefit from many welfare packages. https://authorityngr.com/2026/05/27/2027-anti-north-campaign-against-obi-will-fail-ex-pdp-spokesman/

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has assured party aspirants who may fail to secure tickets for the 2027 elections that their sacrifices and contributions to the party would not go unrewarded. Obi gave the assurance on Monday night in Abuja during a dinner organised by the NDC for aspirants and the inauguration of the party’s Selection Committee. Addressing party members and aspirants, Obi commended those seeking elective positions under the party’s platform, describing their willingness to participate in the political process amid Nigeria’s challenges as a major sacrifice. I thank you for your sacrifice. It is not easy for people to express interest in serving their constituencies and committing themselves to this process,” he said. The former Anambra State governor acknowledged that not all aspirants would emerge victorious but pledged that the party would begin recognising and rewarding loyal members who worked for the party despite failing to secure nominations. All of us will not succeed, all of us will not be selected, all of us will not be winners, but I assure you that it is time we start recognising those who have worked so hard,” Obi stated. He urged aspirants not to view electoral defeat as the end of their political journey, insisting that service and commitment to nation-building transcend political appointments or tickets. Please do not think that if you are not selected, it is the end. It is not the end; it is the ending of the beginning because we will continue to work hard for our country,” he added. Obi also reflected on his recent visit to South Africa, where he said he held discussions with government officials and political leaders on issues affecting Nigerians living abroad. According to him, many Nigerians in foreign countries expressed reluctance to return home because of worsening conditions in Nigeria. We asked some of them to come back, but many said they would rather die there than return because conditions at home are worse. That should not be Nigeria,” he said. The NDC presidential candidate lamented what he described as Nigeria’s declining influence and capacity, noting that despite the country’s historic contributions to global peacekeeping operations, it now struggles with internal security challenges. Nigeria played major roles in securing other nations and contributed significantly to international peacekeeping, but today Nigeria cannot secure itself. That is unacceptable,” Obi said. He further criticised what he described as inadequate engagement by Nigerian authorities with citizens facing challenges abroad, arguing that governments have a responsibility to protect and support their nationals wherever they reside. The event formed part of the NDC’s preparations ahead of its candidate selection process for the 2027 general elections. https://authorityngr.com/2026/05/26/ndc-will-reward-loyal-aspirants-who-that-miss-out-on-tickets-obi/

The Kaduna State chapter of the National Democratic Congress on Wednesday declared support for a proposed presidential ticket involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress at both state and national levels. The party made the declaration during its first expanded joint executive committee meeting with local government and ward chairmen, as well as aspirants, held in Kaduna, the state capital. The meeting had in attendance the party’s governorship, National Assembly and House of Assembly aspirants, zonal executives, and local government and ward chairmen drawn from the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State. Speaking at the gathering, the Kaduna State Chairman of the party, Mordecai Ibrahim, said the NDC had come to provide Nigerians with what he described as “genuine hope” after years of hardship under the APC-led administration. He accused successive APC administrations since 2015 of plunging the country into economic hardship, insecurity and poor governance. According to him, “We all know that the APC has dragged Nigeria and Nigerians 50 years backwards since it assumed power in 2015. Nigerians are indeed groaning today under President Bola Tinubu’s administration like the children of Israel groaned under Pharaoh’s slavery.” The chairman said the party had already established structures across the 255 wards in Kaduna State and was preparing to formally unveil its state secretariat. We may not have been heard, but we have taken time to build our foundation to be solid and deeply rooted underground. Now it is time to announce our presence in the state,” he said. Ibrahim disclosed that the party had raised its membership target from 500 to 1,500 persons per ward, with the aim of registering at least 1.5 million members across Kaduna State before October 31. He also directed members defecting from other political parties to submit resignation letters from their former parties before becoming eligible to contest elective positions on the platform of the NDC. The chairman expressed confidence that the party would produce the next governor of Kaduna State and also take over power at the centre in 2027. With the calibre of aspirants we have gathered in the state, and our presidential candidate which is now obvious, our destination in NDC is Aso Rock Villa in 2027,” he stated. Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, one of the party’s governorship aspirants, said the gathering was convened to strengthen the party’s structures and prepare members for the forthcoming elections. The aspirant, who said the party already had over 30,000 officials across Kaduna State, added that members had resolved to place the party’s interest above personal ambitions. What we are doing here today is to see ourselves, have a conversation with our aspirants and also put before us that the party is supreme and that we have to build the party for us to win the election, not only in Kaduna but everywhere,” he said. Abdulkarim, an ICT expert, further disclosed that the “Obidient movement” had aligned with the party nationally, claiming that Obi had secured the NDC presidential ticket while Kwankwaso was being considered as his running mate. Our principal, Mr Peter Obi, has already secured the ticket for NDC and hopefully his running mate will be Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. At least if you have these two people, every young man and young woman in Nigeria will believe this is exactly the kind of combination we want — people who care about education and are trying to lift young people,” he added. The governorship aspirant also lamented what he described as increasing religious division in Kaduna State and called for unity among residents. We want Kaduna to return to what it used to be. We believe the diversity God gave Kaduna is meant to give it an edge above other states,” he said. https://punchng.com/kaduna-ndc-backs-obi-kwankwaso-ticket-for-presidency/

A former Director of Mobilisation of the Obidient Movement, Morris Monye, has apologised to Peter Obi and the movement’s members six months after resigning from the role. Monye’s apology was conveyed in a statement he shared on X on Thursday. The businessman resigned in November 2025, citing the movement’s poor coordination and underwhelming performance in the gubernatorial election in Anambra. Monye further disclosed that he personally funded nationwide mobilisation efforts, including travel, local structure support, voter awareness campaigns, and logistics, without any financial backing from the movement’s leadership or Obi. In his apology addressed to the “Obidient family”, he said his resignation letter was written at a “moment of frustration and immaturity”. He said, “In that letter, I allowed deep frustration & personal emotions to cloud my judgment. I made statements that subtly and unnecessarily dragged Peter Obi, a man I still respect for his vision, integrity, and sacrifice for this nation. That was wrong. It was childish, and beneath the standard I should have upheld, especially as someone who once held a leadership position in this movement. “I take full responsibility. No one forced me to write it. No one edited it. It came from me, and it was a mistake. I deleted the letter afterwards, but I know deletion does not erase the damage, the disappointment, or the loss of trust many of you felt. I understand why some of you no longer respect me the way you once did. You had every right to feel let down.” He also tendered a personal apology to Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP). Monye said, “Sir, I am sincerely sorry. My words were not a true reflection of the values of sacrifice, accountability, and constructive criticism that you preach. I failed in that moment. To every single Obidient, the ones who stayed grinding, the ones who defended the vision even when it was tough, the ones who felt betrayed by my actions, I am deeply sorry. You are the real heroes of this movement. Many of you are young people full of hope and fire for a better Nigeria. You didn’t deserve to see internal cracks turned into public drama. I let you down.” Monye noted that his apology was not to curry favours or seek a position in the movement but “because it is the right thing to do”. He added, “Leadership is not only about when the road is sweet and smooth; it is also about owning up when you mess up. I own this fully. I am committed to rebuilding trust through consistent actions, not just words. But I also know trust is not demanded, it is earned back slowly, if at all. https://thesun.ng/obidient-movement-ex-official-apologises-to-peter-obi-members/
