One thing I'd tell you is that it's better you get an acceptance letter from a firm before coming to camp to make things easier for yourself.
Now when it comes to postings in Lagos state, I can confidently tell you that Corpers are posted to all sorts of industries and businesses. All except banks, oil companies and telecommunications firms. Majority of Lagos Corpers are posted to firms, some are posted to ministries while a few are posted to schools. Getting a good posting is not the issue, but getting accepted into the respective PPAs you are posted to is. I remember when posting letters came out, a lot of corpers were quite happy with where they got but majority of them got rejected by their respective companies due to various reasons, the most popular reason being lack of space for Corpers. So they had to start searching for new placements. NYSC has the duty to repost Corpers if they get rejected by their potential employers but they'll most likely get reposted to a school, which many Corpers wanted to avoid. They'd even advise rejected Corpers to on their own look for new placements. So you can imagine the stress and difficulty these rejected Corp members had to go through and some of them till now are yet to find a PPA.
And yes, your course of study influences your posting. Most(if not all) law graduates were all posted to law firms. And sometimes, some firms may specifically require Corp members that studied a particular course.
So you should as much as possible try to find a placement before you get to camp. This is very possible, you don't have to know anybody. I've been seeing a lot of vacancies requiring Corp members. Some of my friends submitted their CVs and cover letters to tons of companies and they got feedback from some. Some called them for exams, interviews and that was how they got their PPAs.

Thanks for the reply. But, one more thing. I told a friend that we are required to get Certificate of Fitness at any public hospital to be submitted at camp. She said she did not see such thing when she went through their site. Pls what words would you have me give her?

U know nigeria things are slow, I don't think they have updated it on their site, initially it started with the last batch due to deaths and high rate of health issues that happened in different camps last year.

You can do ur medical anytime before camp sir cos you are taking it along with you to camp but government hospitals only ooo as private won't be accepted.

But the earlier the better bro.

This forum is not discussing topics that should be discussed. As PCM's by now we should be discussing and sharing ideas on topics like:

1. The list of items we need to go to camp with and how to get them before that time comes.

2. We should also be exchanging ideas on our different states where we are based or the states where we schooled. This would help anyone who intends to serve in the state where you are to get more information about where he/she wishes to serve. For example if I am based in Akwa Ibom and I tell you about Akwa Ibom and you also tell me about your own place, the information you get from me would help you if you had the intention of serving in Akwa ibom and vice versa.

This is what i think we should be doing with our time here on nairaland.

U can't go wrong by starting that with us bro, Ur opinion also counts, d room is opened for us all to share ideas and not just for few set of people....

Okay,I typed earlier that states do popped out solely on luck,in fact as at the last stream,your state of origin or where you schooled do not matter at all,my colleague that schooled in ondo as well as being an indigene picked ondo state as the state popped out on his monitor screen,i thought he was joking when he said"Ondo state is here sha,mo ma pick e"i stood from my seat and saw it probably a malfunction on NYSC part or maybe he already use long leg, I don't know,it all depend on LUCK bro.
