HealthCovid-19 Management In Nigeria; Lagos Precisely. by Segunp101(op): 10:04pm On Oct 07, 2020
No doubt, Covid-19 is definitely a major global health crisis that has incapacitated every aspect of human life across the globe. Moments after its discovery in far away China, like a wildfire, it steadily spread uncontrollably to other sophisticated continents of the world like Europe, Asia and Africa. The scourge actually caught scientists unware as they watched helplessly in search of measures to tame its spread. Schools were closed down indefinitely, the world's most powerful economy went aground, communities shutdown, while hospitals and morgues were bombarded with unprecedented patronage as a result of rising cases.
With this ugly trend at hand, World Health officials and scientists began a new search for cure to heal or, at best, mitigate the spread of the virus. The World Health Organization immediately declared a state of emergency in the global health sector, while engaging notable pharmaceutical companies and scientists to help find a vaccine for the virus—at the same time, encouraging nations to commence an aggressive awareness campaign to sensitize the citizenry on ways to flattening the curve of the pandemic.
COVID_19 IN MY CITY
Like most other developing countries particularly from Africa, Nigeria, and by extension Lagos (my home city) had her own share of the Covid experience. Having recorded her first index case through an Italian traveler who sneaked into the country through the Muritala International Airport, Lagos. From this first index case, the virus found its way to the elitist class and/or city big guns across the state, spilling to the neighbouring state of Ogun.
Lagos, being the second most populous state in Nigeria according to National Population Commission (NPC), was greatly immersed in deep shit, at the wake of skyrocketing cases with rippling effect tickling down to other states of the federation. State actors imposed immediate lockdown in order to prevent community transmission of the virus, while on the other hand, activated an aggressive social mobilization and orientation campaign to bring to the fore discourses that will assist the Public to either avoid or manage the spread of the virus.
Be that as it may, it is rather disheartening to note that due to cultural lackadaisical attitude, most people resorted to half compliance to basic guidelines and recommendations of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), which eventually paved way for community spreading.
It is also noteworthy to mention that in the course of our collective effort to combat covid-19, the Nigeria factor raised its ugly head as most state actors started recording cases on daily basis. “This, as many posited, was seen as politically motivated covid19 than real, with an ulterior motive of getting financial assistance from enablers. Worst still, it was also observed that most top government officials saddled with the responsibility of distributing palliatives to cushion the effect of the existing lockdown, diverted it for personal purpose, vis-a-vis shared it among their cronies. More so, the economic downturn occasioned by the lockdown, however prevented many Nigerians in both formal and informal sector from going to work, or conducting their legitimate businesses. Local food vendors and hawkers also couldn’t fend for themselves and their families, thereby culminating into haphazard compliance to covid19 safety protocols.
In Lagos for instance, since Federal and State government could not ensure right to food, shelter and other basic necessities to alleviate the sufferings of families with low income and petty traders, the guidelines were flagrantly disobeyed, as citizens scamper for survival. “Millions of Nigerians observing the covid19 lockdown lacked the food and income that families need to survive” said Anietiwang.
Similarly, the wrong management of suspected cases of Covid-19 is still fresh in our memory. For example, a suspected covid19 positive patient taken to isolation for a test that would take three to four days to produce result, might have already spelt doom as the suspected case might have mingled with others, in the interim. Meanwhile this error of management was avoidable if necessary steps were taken to arrest the virus in the bud.

The most comical aspect of the management of this scourge is the attitude of religious leaders. Faith leaders continuously brainwashed their followers that spiritual coverage is sufficient protection against the virus. Thereby, overtly or covertly preaching against adherence to guidelines and recommendations of the National Center for Disease Control, such as maintaining social distancing, masking up at close range with others, and regular washing of hands with sanitizer. This is indeed, funny and unbelievable in the 21st century.
Other noticeable variables are the non-central coordination of the social awareness campaign and orientation of members of the public. Most government ministries, parastatals and agencies were clamouring to embark on awareness campaign because of the attached financial gains, rather than empowering the statutory organization (National Orientation Agency, NOA) that is professionally trained and statutorily mandated to sensitize, orientate and educate members of the public.
In the same vein, diverse information in the media among top government functionaries and the bogus number of cases released daily, raised some doubts on the genuineness of the virus and the sincerity of those handling it—the National Center for Diseases control(NCDC), and the Presidential Task Force on covid19, were called to question on the manner in which they handled information regarding figures. Surprisingly, some State Governors claimed there were no cases in their state, while others claimed there was never covid19 in Nigeria. They however posited that the whole thing was just a stage up to get financial grants or donations from organizations, locally and internationally. As it stands, it is widely perceived that government is making money out of this pandemic and also some individuals, groups and politicians are enriching themselves with covid -19.
Nigeria government needs to urgently invest and massively too, in the reorientation of minds, by ensuring that her citizen seriously take into cognizance the guidelines and recommendations for curbing the spread of covid19, till the vaccine to cure the virus is gotten. Imperatively all effort towards ending this deadly virus cannot be overlooked, I want to personally salute the collective courage and timely response of world leaders to bring the globe back to her feet.
EducationSucess Is Sweet; But Failure Is Sweeter by Segunp101(op): 4:53pm On Jul 07, 2020
It is a universal truism that every man wants success and a great aspiration for greatness on every side of his life endeavours. Success, they said, is contagious and is always having many friends, a sigh of relief and a sign of complishment, whenever one reflects on the days of his travails.

It comes with joy and happiness put together, which amounts to one having affluence and commanding influence all at the same time.
From the foregoing, the fear of failure has hindered thousands of people from daring and making adventures which are an encapsulate of success.

It is pertinent we girdle our lungs by removing the clog (fear) that hitherto slows our progress, having at the back of our minds that there are no failures, but only lessons; we only fail whenever we refuse to learn a lesson from the failure escapade.

It's high time men know that whenever they fail to plan, they plan to fail. Failure comes as a result of a life-long neglect of the nitty gritties of our lives at the expense of time. This ofcourse, has rendered several people as perpetual failures even in their fourties and early fifties.
No doubt, there is apparently joy in failure, because at any point in failure, we learn new ideas that will usher us some miles close to our destination.

Several chaps out there, out of their shallow understanding of what failure means to them, often than not, think suicide as the next available option. People should know that failure is the brainchild of success. Success cannot come if one has not passed through thirsty waters and turbulent times.

Moreso, rather than be on the negative, whenever failure stares at us, one should always be in the affirmative side, by making positive pronouncements about our current predicament; that way, success may come.

Abraham Lincoln is one of the most famous icons of failure. As a young man from a poor background, Lincoln was faced with tremendous challenges in the cause of his political life. He contested eight good elections and lost out in all the eight attempts.

As a young merchant, he failed consecutively in every attempt to set up a business. Despite all the uneasiness, and nervous crisis that confronted him, he never bowed to failure; he rather considered all that to mean, "pathfinding travails" to his greatness.

He was a firm believer of the dictum that says "winners never quit and quiters never win". This was evident in his many times of trying, which finally saw him become not just the president of America, but the greatest president in the history America.

Lincoln was a champion and he never gave up. Here is a sketch of Lincoln's road to the White House:

* 1816- His family was forced out of their home. He had to work to support them.

* 1818- His mother died.

* 1831 Failed in business.

* 1832 Ran for state legislature, lost.

* 1832 Also lost his job , wanted to go to law school but couldn't get in.

*1833 Borrowed some money from a friend to begin a business and by the end of the year he was bankrupt. He spent the next 17 years of his life paying off this debt.

* 1834 Ran for state legislature again,won.

* 1835 Was engaged to be married, sweetheart died and his heart was broken.

* 1836 Had a total nervous breakdown and was in bed for six months.

* 1838 Sought to become speaker of the state legislature, defeated.

* 1840 Sought to become elector,defeated.

* 1843 Ran for Congress, lost.

* 1846 Ran for Congress again, this time he won ,went to Washington and did a good job.

* 1848 Ran for re-election to Congress, lost.

* 1849 Sought the job of land officer in his home state, rejected.

* 1854 Ran for Senate of the United States, lost.

* 1856 Sought the Vice-Presidential nomination at his party's national convention - get less than 100 votes.

* 1858 Ran for U.S. Senate again, again he lost(probably his last failure).

After , What matters most is not how many times you fail, but that you never stop trying.enduring so many great failures in life the great Lincoln never quit and stretched a long road of failures to the destination of success, hurdling over obstacles coming now and then.

*1860 Elected president of the United States.
Now what I am trying to say that when one "failed to succeed " It bring about great landmark achievement, that will never be forgotten as long as the world still exist.

Pragmatically most stories in the Bible and Quran are stories about those who have failed many times and later succeed in the end. Moreso in our contemporary world success story of great men are all about how they turn their ordeal and challenges Into success.

Failure doesn't mean we are inferior or incapable. Failure is preparing us for greatness. so, when we are positive about failure at the end we achieve greatness that humanity will always remember.

PoliticsCOVID-19, Politicians And The Race To Destroy A Nation. by Segunp101(op):
Government is not reason and it is not servant and a fearful master, never should it be left to irresponsible action - George Washington.

It is hara-kiri for a government not to be fully responsible during this dangerous and crucial time where deaths are being recorded daily on a high scale, not only by covid 19 but also what covid 19 gave birth to. For example, hunger, poverty, security threat, depression and frustration.

Nigeria government fight against the virus is subjected to pillage which is vulnerable to the government and her citizen. Report gathered, revealed that Nigerian government has received support from both international and local bodies to fight covid 19 pandemic.

According to an online news platform "nairametric", the platform gave full details of donors and the amount so donated. Also, US embassy and consulate on their website reported the amount of money they gave Nigerian government to combat the deadly virus.

All these donations serves no other purpose than to fight covid 19 and other problems brought by it. Failure to use the money for its purpose by Nigerian government calls for seppukku.

I believe no any other matter should take much attention than wining the war against the deadly virus and devising ways to bringing Nigeria and her citizen out of hardship. The derilium brought by this pandemic requires Nigerians to adhere and comply to the preventive and precautionary measures laid down by government.

Obviously, in recent time, Nigeria has lost a reasonable number of her prominent citizen ranging from top politicians and private individuals to underlying health issues complicated by covid 19 While some died as a result of the virus, others are in critical health condition.

The Apc crisis, overtly or covertly shows that Nigeria government jeopardises the enforcement of laid down preventive measures to avoid spread of corona. The recent rift among politicians in APC has prone many to close death and open others to danger as some supporters are seen gathering to show political backing to their respective leaders, same as we have in PDP, where governor obaseki was welcomed in a mammoth crowd, amidst glitz and glamour.

Recently, Governor Akeredolu was seen in a viral video in Abuja where he was sneezing profusely in his hands in company of some lawmakers who accompanied him to APC Secretariat to pick intent declaration form for his reelection in Abuja, and insinuated that those APC lawmakers might have been infected with deadly virus. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to quarantine all the Ondo state lawmakers involved not to spread the virus within the state.

The rate of non compliance to all measures provided to help flatten the curve of the virus will only increase number of cases, heading the country to destruction which will incapacitate the country's economy, Increase death rate, hunger, open, not only the rich to burglary .

Basically, the point is this, when we have low cases of covid 19, it will help the country to resume her economic activities, individual will can go back to their work and duty, hawkers can return back to their means of livelihood- it won't allow hunger, unemployment and whatsoever negativity brought by the pandemic push people to comit crime ranging from burglary, kidnap and terrorism.

Another fathomable problem facing the curb of covid- 19 is incorrigible way Nigeria government has been managing the pandemic. Following the suspicious spike in the number of cases on daily basis, and at the same time, where we have some top government officials and political office holders, who advocate that the covid 19 case is a game being played by Nigeria politicians. This can make Nigerians accept and reject information about the virus base on their belief with a high dose of cognitive dissonance.

Currently some Nigerians believe the virus is not real, that they are just being played by Nigeria government and politicians, for this reason they neglect the preventive and the precautionary measures against the virus. People hardly use face mask, hand sanitizer and no social distancing.

Right now, of abiding presence in the minds of Nigerians is that government is making money out this pandemic and also some individuals, groups and politicians are enriching and accumulating wealth with covid -19.

Nigeria government needs to urgently invest and massively too, in the reorientation of minds, by showing her citizen that the top priority of this government is to protect life and property .
God bless Nigeria.

The celebration of the birth of a socio-political virtuosity: Segun Peter
By Abiodun.

A stone is enough to break a glass, a word is enough to break a heart, a glass is enough to ship water, a wish is not even enough for a wonderful friend like Segun, an excuse to shun ur birthday could be ludicrous.

Every wonderful people I move close with use to have at least a peculiarity that stands them out. That of Segun is self-confidence, he believes so much in what he knows and stands by it against all odd.

His vibrancy and eloquence is enviable, through this young potential journalist I fathomed a lucid difference between intelligence and brilliance. Keep on being a realist and a fact finder.

Segun is a political and social analyst, who is well equipped with both national and international perspectives to issues of public interest. He is a regular guest on radio and television.

This is a guy who would never prettify any pretence to please any man, he fights when he should, plays if need arise and willfully doffs hat for a better stance in a the course of disceptation and contestation.

Happy birthday to u dear friend, I wish you multiple of all that u wish urself.

Long life and more prosperous years ahead in good health and heart replete of gratitude to God.
