This is what heavy taxes being imposed on non-Lagosians in Lagos, especially the business-minded and hard working Easterners, is giving Lagos. Look at the big structures being erected with people's sweat.

And tomorrow they'll come and say non-Lagosians should go? Not possible! non-Lagosians will seat and work in that building and become the Local government Chairman.

I can see the pain, unfortunately nobody begged you to stay in Lagos. If your state is that friendly to business and progress, you won't stay back where your sweat is being ripped off. Channel your frustration to your leaders at home (if you have any).

Foreign Affairs / Re: Kenya Set To Revive Some Tax Measures In The Scrapped Finance Bill by seguntijan(m): 6:37am On Aug 14
Fellow Nigerians, let us take a look at Kenya.

William Ruto was elected in 2022. Decided to raise taxes to reduce the deficit and have access to loans. The citizens protested, destroyed and looted the country.

The president cowered, did their bidding , drop the new taxes and reduced the size of his cabinet.

But did that change anything ?. NOPE.

Kenya will be forced to borrow at an expensive rate , will sink further in debt and progress will be slow.

Meanwhile , the protesters continues to threaten the president everyday about another round of protest. They have fully weaponized protest, become a bone in the neck of Ruto and a distraction for his administration

What did Ruto gain by cowering to the protesters?. What did Kenyans gain ?

Safe to say the wheels of progressed is grinding to a halt in Kenya.

Now compare the contrast to President Tinubu who within a year got an improved credit rating for Nigeria from three rating agencies, got our foreign reserves up after paying a backlog of $5 billion within 4 month, paid external debt of $3.5 billion, paid domestic debt of N7.4 trillion amongst other local debt, got our stock market performing the best in Africa, got our Revenue from N 3trillions ( H1 2023) to over 9 trillion ( H1 2024) , oil and gas production up, security and fight against terrorism improved, funding to health and education improved and reform underway, social safety net reform, student loan, minimum wage, credit facility, youth investment funds, to mention a few.

But you want the same man to go the William Ruto way ?.

You clearly don’t want the best for the country nor wish the country well!!!

LG - 135,000 KM ( Trunk C )

The LG in Nigeria would really have a tough time with the state governors and their puppets state assembly for this autonomy issue.

Imagine under the cage of the state governor, the Kosofe LG boss still able to do something meaningful. Now imagine being in full control of LG funds directly from FG

I don't think Local government chairmen are caged in Lagos o. From Kosofe to Shomolu to Bariga to Lagos Island East to Ikoyi-Obalende local government chairmen are really working like governors in other states. In fact I can tell you that local government chairmen performance in Lagos state is more than Samuel Ortom, Yahya Bello and Peter Obi performance as governor

At least our streets will be fixed, our drainage will be fixed, now we can hold our grassroot politicians and leaders responsible for bad inter street roads and blocked drainage rather than waiting for he governors to remember us in our area.

The humongous amount of arrears that these guys were owing Abia workers is out of this world until Otti came and is gradually offsetting and cleansing their mess. It will take a while but I believe Otti will clear everything.

These that are protesting should first check if they are amongst the ghost workers initially struck out by Otti...

At least he is not owing like them grin

People like you are amazingly dumb, governance covers so many areas of life, the people of the state won't eat Julius Berger logo. If you are conversant with happenings in Abia state, you'll see the lies been spread on social media by the state government. The electricity they celebrated some months ago even though it was done by previous government was a mirage. But you in Lagos or Abuja, what you are enjoying in those places is a pipe dream for the people of south east.

When Nigeria returned to civilian rule in 1999, one of those elected into Nigeria's Senate was a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG.

He stated in an interview that sitting with him in the Senate of Nigeria are people he had investigated and locked up for various criminal offenses when he was in service.

In his assertion, some of them were rogues who are unfit for decent societies, let alone in leadership positions.

He was suspended.

He was suspended for bringing the Senate to "disrepute."

Citizens did not protest.

After spending months at home without salaries and allowances, he had to apologize to the Senate and promise to be of good behaviour.

That was in 1999.

In 2016, a member of the House of Representatives raised the alarm that the nation's budget was padded.

"Padded" is euphemism for unlawful, criminal tampering and inflating of budget.

He went from the Police to the DSS. He went from radio stations to television houses. With proofs.

No security agency acted or gave him attention.

He was alone.

He was also suspended.

Buhari who was still wearing the borrowed robe of a saint pretended to see and hear nothing.

Citizens did not protest.

In 2024, a Senator raised an alarm that there was no explanations for over three trillion naira inserted into the budget.

3 trillion!

No investigation, no questions, no explanations.

The Senate has suspended that Senator.

Tomorrow, someone will declare that Nigeria's problem is spiritual.

And senseless people will still give that person attention.

It is possible God looks at some people as idiots when they stand in prayers for Nigeria.

Nigeria's problem is not spiritual. Never has been.

Nigeria's undoing is being ruled by distinguished criminals.

We are our problem(WAOP).

Politics / Re: Minimum Wage: Tinubu Meets Fed Govt Reps On Tripartite Committee by seguntijan(m): 7:34pm On Jun 04
Use your heads. President Tinubu CANNOT dictate the salaries of Senators or Representatives. They are a separate, independent and self-financing arm of government. They can even impeach the President. The President cannot even determine Judges salary. If the NLC is not happy with their pay, then they should face them. They should not make the rest of us pay for their beef with Senators or the National Assembly. Ask for something reasonable, like ₦75,000, and almost 100% of the populace will support you.

Politics / Re: 5 Countries That Recently Changed Their National Anthem by seguntijan(m): 9:42pm On Jun 03
After listening to the US National Anthem with lyrics, my opinion of it has changed completely. It is emotional. It can bring tears to your eyes. And I think it is linked to why the US is what they are today. Proud of their country and fiercely united against all foes.

It's a story about a fight between Americans and their British colonisers where they noticed that through the night of fighting their beautiful flag - the 'star-spangled banner' - remained standing despite all the carnage, as did their nation. It's emotional.

Arise O Compatriots is good but it doesn't have that moving quality.

Education / The Plea Of University Lecturers To Teachers In Secondary Schools!!! by seguntijan(m): 12:43pm On Apr 30
Dear secondary school teachers and school owners, please, help the students and the public by ensuring that students in your school write examinations by themselves and merit the grades they brandish on their SSCE results.

We are tired of seeing students with A1 in Mathematics but cannot resolve the smallest of fractions. A student with distinctions in Physics and chemistry but knows next to nothing about chemical reactions or energy conversion. Students with distinctions in Literature, Government, and CRS, yet blank on the differences between Drama and Prose Fiction, the forms of Government, and the significance of Religious stories.

I had to ask some year 1 students to look for a tutorial teacher to help them with JS 3 and SS1 mathematics recently. The whole 16 of them in my Engineering class with excellent SSCE results are visibly confused at the sight of any arithmetic work. Their last semester's performance betrayed the several A1s and B3s on the WAEC they carry about.

These students you help acquire grades they can't defend are usually frustrated in the ivory tower. Save them a voyage of pain and regrets in the future by ensuring they are well tutored and allowed to prepare and write their examinations unaided.
