PoliticsDEMOCRACY And OUR DEMOCRACY: Anything To Celebrate? by SenatorFR(op): 10:58am On Jun 12, 2022
Today, in commemoration of Nigeria's democracy, the President and commander in chief of the armed forces of Nigeria, H.E. President Muhammadu Buhari addressed the nation. As usual, we heard what we expected. Not new. The same old story and promises with.

It is saddening that the country is in such a messy state under a perceived democratic setting, "ochichi onye kwuo uche ya."

It's blatantly obvious that the division in Nigeria is far more than one could imagine, yet a President is saying, we are celebrating the unity of the country. What a mud to the face of Nigerians?

People die everyday, yet you only make promises of protection and never provides any.

Until we begin to see government actions against the perpetrators of these evil and heinous activities, your speeches would not be taken seriously. we are tired. We need a new and better NIGERIA.

The democracy we celebrate is not what we practice in reality. The Ideals of a democratic setting is far from us.

It would be self delusional and self destructive if we live on the notion of practising democracy whereas in the actual sense, we are practicing "dictatorial-democracy". A democracy where the people's choice are influenced by the powers that be. A democracy that is not free of people who seek for personal aggrandisement. A democracy where the electoral umpire is not independent.

Where is the delusion in the democracy we celebrate?

Where is the unity, fairness, justice and equity in the said democratic ideology we celebrate. We deceive ourselves if we say all is well with our democracy and electoral process.

However, there is hope for a better tomorrow. We can still get it right. Now is not late, now is still good for a start.

In less than 9months, Nigeria will have had a new president-elect already.

The joke and onus lie on the electoral process to be truly democratic and transparent void of external, government, religious or tribal interference.

We must look beyond the NIGERIA of today, the collapsed state of the country, the division spread across party, ethnic and religious lines, and chart a way forward for a better NIGERIA.

The real and prosperous nation our forefathers fought for. The true and giant country our children children will be proud of.

The Nigeria of our dream! That is the kind of country we seek and we desire.

It is heartwarming to see that many Nigerians especially the youths have risen to the task of reclaiming the country from these men, as evident in the turnout of people for PVC registration.

I call on INEC Nigeria to graciously consider the request for the extension of the continuous voters registration, CVR, while thanking them for the deployment of additional 209 registration machines to areas with high number of prospective PVC registrants.

The President Muhammadu Buhari led administration should in testament of his unbiasedness and non-interference with the electoral process, ensure that the forthcoming general election is free, fair, transparent, peaceful and credible as this was the ingredients of the 2015 election that rode him to power.

The security agencies should maintain unbiasedness in the discharge of their duties void of harassment and intimidation.

The time to get it right is now and not by 2027 when we would be celebrating 30yrs since the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election which was adjudged most credible election in Nigeria's history.

We can get it right and the time is now!

God bless the federal republic of Nigeria,
God bless Nigerians,

PoliticsPeter Obi: Why I Support His Presidency by SenatorFR(op): 2:17pm On Jun 10, 2022
Some people say we are supporting Peter Obi because he is Igbo.

Wow! Funny!

Well, my honest reply is, why didn't we support ROCHAS OKOROCHA who scored zero (0) at the primaries? Why didn't we support DAVE UMAHI? Ogbonnaya Onu? Chris Ngige? Anyim Pius Anyim?and the resthuh

Why?

Because we hate them or are they not Igbos?

Peter Obi is a national treasury. He has what it takes to turn Nigeria around and set it on the path of progress and development. That is what makes him different from the other Igbo aspirants.

He has done it locally while serving as a Governor, he has done it as a successful businessman and has also done it internationally. So why not use him to transform NIGERIA? Because he is an Igbo?

Aside sentiments, geopolitical zones and party affiliation, among the Presidential candidates who else matches the qualifications and competencies of Peter Obi?

For the record, I am not supporting Peter Obi because he is Igbo. I am supporting him because the country is in dear need of his experiences. I am supporting him because I love NIGERIA and tired of her comatose state.

In 2019, I supported Atiku against Moghalu an Igbo man because I believed he could be a better President. So where is the sentiment nor tribal politicking?

The truth is, anyone who means well for NIGERIA will support and clamour for Peter Obi's Presidency.

He is the man we need right now! Like, urgently.

On Peter Obi Presidency I stand.

Cheers to God's blessings on you.

Nairaland GeneralFirst Bank And Their Wahala by SenatorFR(op): 5:13pm On May 31, 2022
The incident occurred on 4th May, 2022 at about 15:03:35pm at a fuel station when I tried to purchase fuel using my ATM card. The system displayed "declined" while I got a debit alert almost immediately.

I waited for days to get a reversal, yet I got none. On the 11th May, I went to the bank's branch at Aba-Owerri road (beside stanbic IBTC bank) Aba Abia State to lodge an official complain, as usual I was asked to fill the necessary forms which I did. The following day, I got a mail from the bank that my complain would be resolved on the 13th of May. I was relaxed while waiting for my 3k.

After waiting for days without getting the reversal, I went back to the bank on the 24th May to enquire why I complain has not been resolved. On getting there, I was asked to to go through the same process I went through on the first day. The customer care representative (Name withheld) apologized for the inconveniences and expressed worry why the headquarters have not resolved my issue because she was the person that attended to me on the 11th May.

Surprisingly, yesterday, I got a mail from first Bank that my complain has been resolved, I checked my alerts and my bank app to see if the 3k had reflected, Lo and behold it has not. I responded to the mail informing them that I'm yet to get my money.

As good and bad as this may sound, I am yet to get a response from the bank nor a reversal of my money.

Yes, it's small money but I need it back

I don't have much for a legal action but if I don't get a reversal within the next seven days, I may employ the service of a legal practitioner.
PoliticsMy Advise To Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan by SenatorFR(op): 12:22am On May 29, 2022
My candid advise to Former President Jonathan is that he should not contest for President.

The respect and dignity you have earned since you left office is more than being the President of Nigeria. Coming to be a President is more like a demotion.

Also, it would be a deadly betrayal to your people, because, you only have one tenure of four years to serve as president after which you hand over to a Northerner who would then stay for eight years. That's not your kind of person. Please don't contest.

Moreso, you're no longer the people's choice rather you're the Buhari's choice to fulfill their underlying agenda of returning power to the North after four years.

Unarguably, the problems of this country is beyond you. Is no longer what you can handle. The security is zero, the infrastructure is on the negative. Killings and corruption and crime is on the rise.

This was not the case when you were the President.

Do you want to serve for four years without solving these problems and they will turn around to tarnish your golden image?

This is a Party that spent more than half of their tenure blaming you for their failure. They called you unprintable names to justify their failure.

You know more than I can imagine, however, on this one, if I had a second to advise you on this matter I wouldn't mince words not take much of your time, I would say, please don't contest for the President come 2023 no matter how Juicy and sugarcoated the promises may be.

Please your excellency, Goodluck Jonathan don't contest. You're more than a President!

EducationThe Ongoing Cctv Installation In Lecture Halls Amidst Poor Lecture Facilities. by SenatorFR(op): 6:22am On May 27, 2020
THE ONGOING CCTV INSTALLATION IN LECTURE HALLS AMIDST POOR LECTURE FACILITIES.
A Letter to the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS.

Dear sir,

Its with heart full of joy and appreciation to your administration that i write this, to commend you on your giant stride to see that our great citadel of learning emerges the best in learning, impactation of knowledge, production of world class graduates and seasoned lecturers.
Since May 14th, 2019 you took over the mantle of leadership of the University, the institution have witnessed a new facelift, in all areas; infrastructure, learning environment, training and re-training of staffs. This you achieved through your wealth of experience in the system.

I also commend the ongoing installation of CCTV cameras in the lectures halls as this will curtail the rate of examination malpractice, destruction of school properties and security of lifes of the students within the campus.

However, Your Excellency, in as much as you want to ensure malpractice free institution, it is also not out of place to first consider the condition of learning, the mode of lecturing, and the nature of our lecture halls. Most lecture halls were meant to carry only 100 to 200 students, but reality is the reverse, they carry as much as 500 to 700 students. These students receive lectures without a public address system (PAS), the projectors are not in good condition, some class lacks, teaching boards, some departments have no lecture halls. These students who study under such strenous and stressful conditions will in turn write exams under the watchful supervision of the CCTV.

Permit me, your excellency, to say that, the main cause of examinatiom malpractice is the inability of the students to get the information been passed by the lecturer during classes couple with the fact that some lecturers does not posses the qualities of a lecturer, who lacks experiences and first hand knowledge of the course they are meant to handle, the student devices a means by which he or she will pass the examination.

Sir, In as much as am not trying to justify the ugly act of malpractice Your excellency, i suggest that before the installation of CCTVs in the lecture halls, the school authority should first look into the learning conditions of students, reduction in the number of students per lecture hall (which may be done through the construction of more lecture halls, training and retraining of staffs and employment of fresh lecturers), provision of modern day lecture hall equipment such as public address system (PAS), projectors and fans, mandatory 4-students per seat arrangement and many more.
With these in place, the students will have no excuse for engaging in examination malpractice and perhaps there will be no need for the installation of the electronic watchdog.

Furthermore sir, equipping the lecture halls, improving the learning condition of students and development of CRITICAL infrastructures in the institution is worth more than the installation of CCTVs in the lecture halls.

With due respect Sir, I suggest that you reconsider your stand on the CCTV installation and the monies meant for the project be channeled to the development of the lecture halls.

The entire university community is solidly behind you in your quest to making the university one of the best in the committee of universities.
Continue the good work of #Project200, with God the sky will be the starting point of this great institution in no distant time.
Thanks.

Your humble student,
Christian.

EducationRe: E-voting In Varsities: A Welcome Devt As UNIZIK Makes History by SenatorFR(op): 9:04am On Oct 18, 2019
You are right, it didn't start today. But when i say, made history i mean its the first time in her history and hitch free, transparent and fair one.

I was also an observer in the election which took place on the 4th of this month.
I and other observers, serving as agents to the candidates watched on the projected screen minute by minute how the votes were coming in and i tell you it was a very transparent one.
EducationE-voting In Varsities: A Welcome Devt As UNIZIK Makes History by SenatorFR(op): 8:39am On Oct 18, 2019
*THE STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT AS TIME GOES BY*

The student union government is a student body saddled with the duties of protecting the right of the students, representing the students when duty calls. The body is not expected to fall short of this primary obligation, as such it has the major positions which are obtainable in the LARGER GOVERNMENT, the positions include: The president, the vice president, the secretary general, the legislature the Judiciary and directorates(Ministries as in the case of the larger government).
It is also a norm for the males folks to occupy a larger percentage of these positions as it is in the larger government.
However, with the way politics and government are going nowadays in schools, the narrative may change in no distance time. One of which is the introduction of E-voting in Tertiary institutions, *this process is likely to change the gender-structure of the student union government* as more females are likely to put interest in the union all things been equal having seen the transparency of the process.
Since one no longer stay on the queue waiting for a turn to vote, it then means that a candidate don't know who voted or who did not vote for him/her thereby putting every candidate on the same scale of winning the election.

Another, good thing about this process is that it put the mandate in the hands of the students, they choose who to and who not to give the mandate to.
E-voting has a reasonable amount of transparency, fairness and credibility, this is because it has faced off some form of rigging, electoral malpractices, over-voting, invalid votes and stuffs like that, the system shows you the total number of students that voted and the number of votes each candidate got from the total votes as such you can tell yourself "i won" or "i lost", reason being that in the manual method of voting, one can influence the process to produce him/her as winner but such case would be rare in e-voting(except by hacking into the voting portal).

In as much as the process is welcomed by many students, the school should also continue to improve on the process especially in those areas highlighted by the observers, among which includes;
*¶* Sending voting links on time, if possible the voting link should be sent twice.
*¶* Weeks to the election, the school should request the students to submit their active phone numbers to their respective course reps, who in turn submit it to the appropriate quarter, this is to avoid disenfranchising some students.
*¶* We understand, the poor network problem in the campus and the fact that there will be traffic on the portal as many students whats to vote at the same time, it would be good if the school considers extending the voting time by an hour or two, to give room for more students to vote.
*¶* After the election, there should be meeting for all aspirants, this is to pass the message that election is not a do or die affair and also to further unite the Students union for a better and greater students union.

E-voting has come to stay, the worse we can do is to improve the process, more transparent even to a blind man, more credible and acceptable. We can't afford to move backward but forward with the speed of light in this digital world.

E-voting, for transparency and credibility!
