I got her few weeks ago for 65K the seller claim she’s GSD see slant back

Don't beat that dog now. What u need is patience and constant training. Beating her will create unnecessary fear in her and she may get aggressive.

Teach her "Stop", "Leave It"commands. She may not get it the first few days.

Don't use too many words to teach your dog a command. You may get her confused.

Watch when she wants to pee or poo. Tell her " Stop" and take her where you want her to pee or poo.

After that, congratulate her by giving her a treat. Always buy a pack of dog treat to contradictory her whenever she behaves well.
If u do that, she will believe they peeing or piping at that place will mean giving her a treat.

I did not buy potty for my dogs. I rather used blocks to make a circle, filled it with clean white sharp sand. That is where they pee and poo. And it's very easy to pack the poo.

They are so intelligent. Now they fully understand all my languages. They respond so accurately. They are 5 months old.

Use Google and YouTube. I learned a lot that way and I'm doing very well with my two dogs. Though I started reading a lot about owing a dog and training before I got mine.

My dogs can never poo or urinate anywhere outside the dedicated place even if you lock them up in the cage for many hours.
Dey can't eat food that is not in their plates. This is very important. If your dog starts eating food randomly, an enemy can poison a piece of meat, throw to your dog over the fence, and that will be the end

Gist me on the method used to control them with the poo and pee stuff and how old were they when you start teaching them this ? Did you get a potty for them cos my place is all interlocked flooring and people say she’s too small to be beaten for the poo

My brother, it's fine to own a dog, but u must be ready before making taking that decision.
There are many things involved.
Know it that your dog need medicals. Weda u have money or not, you must get its medicals or u may get into big trouble if the dog happens to bite anyone. You MUST give the 3 vaccinations and the Anti-Rabies vaccine which be from a total of N15,000 and above. This is exclusive of other medical issues that may crop up from time to time.

Your dog must eat. I said MUST. You may manage to go hungry yourself, but that should not be applied to the dog if you really want ur dog to look fine and be under ur control.

Have it in mind you are packing into ur new apartment of Self-Content. That is still a commercial building, not ur private house. Have u consider how other tenants will view u having dog around the compound. The first few weeks of you bringing the dog home will be hell. The dog will experience separation anxiety. It will cry shout, back and make all sorts of noise that ur co tenants will have issues with as they will lose sleep by the nuisance that dog will create for the first few weeks.
Also bear in mind that as the dog keep growing, it may start destroying ppl items like shoes, clothes and with lots of poo in the compound if you fail to train her very well.

Also know that once you get this dog, your movements will be limited. Ur dog will be like a little baby in the house. Are you sure you can cope with your job, coming home to feed her in the day time. Your puppy may need to be fed like 4 times per day.
Also know that you can no longer travel as u used to. U can't travel and leave her behind. Are you ready to make provision for who will take care of her wen u travel? Do you have enough money to pay for accommodation if you wish to leave her under the care of your vet doc. They charge like N1,000/night.

Your dog will need different types of food at different growing period. Can you conveniently afford it? Will ur job give you time to exercise your dog and socialize her for healthy growth. Do u have a good space in that compound to build the dog's house. Will the owner of the house allow that?

Bros, there are other things you need to consider before bringing in a dog to ur house.

Vomit, Bloody stool.
The vomit must have one strong stench smell.
If there is no strong smell, it's not Parvo.
Once your dog gets in contact with Parvo, it will show within 3 to 5 days.
It can kill a dog within 10 days of contact.
Even after treating it. the virus can linger within the environment for over a year.
Not affected by either hot or cold weather.
Another dog can get it if it enters the compound even after your dog has recovered.

The good news I’ve gotten the Dog before these advices falls in. For now i only need tips on how maintain the dog and how to handle all the basic traning like sit, stand, where to poo and waterview.

Let's be realistic here. Most Gsd puppies are sold between 50-90k depending on the breed.

Feeding alone would be costing you between 5-10k monthly minus veterinary and other miscellaneous. And you say your monthly income is what again?

Truth is you'll be overwhelmed by the huge expenses your little pet is going to give you and most likely run out of cash before the end of the month. Cos you'll have to fend for yourself as well.

The only breed I can recommend for you with that income is the Calabar yellow hound aka ekuke dog. The only money you'll spend is in the purchasing which would be less than 2k. As for feeding and maintenance, you have absolutely nothing to worry about cos the calabar yellow hound is capable of surviving with or without your support.

Let me share a recipe i used for my puppy i collected at just two weeks.

Get a feeding bottle make a suitable size hole in it.
Buy 4kg dry puppy food i recommend ( fidog or diamond )
Checkers 4 in one custard
A crate of egg

Now mix it this way

Boil hot water and pour into the dry dog food and form a mashy properly grinded paste...

Make the custard(also add milk) to be a bit water, break one egg add pour into the hot custard then stir

Bring your feeding bottle, pour a third of the dry dog food paste into it, the remaining should be the other mixture....cover and shake the feeding bottle so the mixture forms a single combo then allow to cool.

Feed it to your puppy atleast 4 times a day continuously and see the wonders


*Note the older he gets you start increasing the portion of dry dog food paste in the mix

Nevertheless, she would still come out pretty nice if well taken care of. Make sure u bath regularly with a medicated dog soap, serve nutritious meals and give lots of love. Enjoy ur pup. Hope u know how to potty train.

When my gsd had parvo in 2017 all the vets around me rejected my dog and assured me it'll die within the next few days. After many month I revisited them again with my gsd and they couldn't believe it, even the ones that said I bought an ekuke mix all ate their words. I did the treatment myself which I spent less than 5k for everything

Even the gsd u want to buy will even eat its poo. Everything is training. U would be surprised to what a local dog can become. Mine understands basic commands like sit, stay ,eat , come and go.
Go for a gsd. They are lovely dogs. U must be ready to work in order to get the best outcome. U can feed rice with fish, indomie with fish etc. Mine mostly eats Rice and Titus , grounded guinea corn with cray fish and fresh fish, raw chicken mostly on weekends.

Op.. most of these people saying u can't either spend excessively on their dogs, or they dont even own one.. a fully grown guard dog can live healthy on a 10k-15k budget a month, it's not until u waste money on over priced dog foods.. this is something I've learnt being a livestock producer, it's not about the brand of feed but it's composition, u can get mixed noodles at the rate of 300-350 per kilo 10kilos =3500, budget another 3500 for other foods bcoa you'll need to give him something z differen every now ans then, dats 7k weh go still enter d next month, budjet d remaining 8k for medications which u might not need.. most kennels have their rwcipies, most vets use crushed noodles, all des foreign foods are being used by pple that own dogs as peta or aecurity, the pple they bouth those dogs from make use od local recipie.. I konw of a guy with a massive Caucasian, and a rot/gsd mix.. he got them as pup and na leftovers weh he dey feed dem everyday since puppy ooh, leftover from a booker in his street he pays 500naira a week and he gets more than enough food for 3 massive dogs on a daily bases.. ignore what thos pple saying u can't are talking about.. they didnt even ask what u have to budget for d dog dem just dey shout u cant, d major concern is parvovirus, juat save up like 15k for that just incase.. otherwise ur good

Bros, dont mind people saying you can't own a dog with your salary. People with 50k salary give birth. Do you know how much is baby food? Pampers? Booster dog food is 19k that will take your dog for a month. Other supplements can't take you 6k. 25k on your dog monthly is cool. No go do pass yourself bro. I remember the first month i bought my dogs, i spent over 90k on can food alone for 2 dogs, not to mention injections and the rest, but now i draw out a budget of 50k max for my 2 dogs monthly and they are doing real fine. Cut your coat accordingly to your size brother

If your monthly expenses for your two dogs is 50K then an average of 30K won’t be too much for a single dog

Actually you have to vaccinate your pup ahead of it...the vaccination comes in three tranches of two weeks interval my vet charged 3k each thats 9k total...but even after vaccination you have to be careful your dog doesn't near any local dog because they are the main carrier and distributors of parvo

You can maintain a dog depending on your budget. Same way some children attends private university and some government owned University and still do far better ... Ironically, i have a 4months old Boerboel puppy well feed with booster can food and booster puppy dry food. All vaccines regularly taken. And my landlord owns a mix breed of Boerboel and a local breed. Never vaccinated, feed on eba or garri mixed with milk once daily. The dog was very active and security alert. Recently my puppy manifest parvo signs and was immediately treated by two different vet which cost me a whole lot of money.

If you don’t mind, what’s the actual cost for the parvo threatment

Better find local breed. Use that one learn work first, they will eat everything yam, bread, rice, beans, mango, amala, semovita, garri and palm oil, I've fed one coconut before and it ate it. They can also be trained and disciplined.
