Celebrities / Blessing Boma Douglas: Soji And I Are Still Happily Married by seunadebisi(m): 8:07pm On Apr 01, 2022
Blessing Boma Douglas, wife of Olusoji, son of Nollywood veterans Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva, has made a u-turn after stating she parted ways with her husband.

The public speaker and mental health advocate recently left many in shock with the news of her supposed marriage crash.

Blessing, during a question and answer session with fans, claimed her marriage to Olusoji Jacobs had crashed adding there wasn’t any possibility of them coming back together.

However, she retracted via an insta story post where she explained her marriage was still intact.

According to her, being bombarded with insensitive questions about her marriage made her resort to responding with humour accompanied with sarcasm.

She said unfortunately, her responses to the inquisitive fans were taken overboard.

She wrote: “Those who know me, know that I can be quite playful, and one of the ways I like to connect with my community of followers is through my Instagram stories, a space purposefully curated to be light-hearted, serving as a virtual extension of my jovial personality.

“Now generally refrain from discussing my personal life within this space; however, after a series of incessant, and borderline insensitive inquiries about my marriage, I responded in the best way I knew I could – through humour and retorted with sarcasm.
“But given how fast, far and wide the appearance of bad news can spread, I have realized the need to be more cautious in my public interactions.

The mother of one added: “On that note, Soji and I are still happily married and I will not be discussing that the issue any further. And now that that’s out of the way, please feel free to discuss some exciting news.

“Atarahbaby, my US based skincare line is finally coming to Nigeria! Click the link in my bio to preorder from April 1st. God bless!”
Olusoji tied the knot with Blessing in July 2018 and welcomed their daughter, Oluwasoromidayo Atarah Owanemi Abimbola Jacobs in April 2019.

Politics / Train Attack: Nigeria Is At War, Femi Adesina Finally Admits by seunadebisi(m): 7:49pm On Apr 01, 2022
Special Adviser to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina
After about seven years of downplaying the severity of Nigeria’s security crisis since his principal assumed office in May 2015, Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, on Friday, finally admitted that Nigeria is at war.
Adesina, in a piece titled, ‘They Hate God, They Loathe Humanity’, described the attack by terrorists on hundreds of passengers onboard an Abuja-Kaduna train on Monday as a “carnage” and a “premeditated murder from the very bottom of hell”.
He said, “Whoever or whatever they are, terrorists, bandits, it doesn’t matter. They sow evil, and they will reap it. They do not deserve to live. Not in this world, nor the next. They need to be sent to their master, the Devil, and speedily too.”
Adesina lamented that the terrorist attacks on trains was affecting the “rail revolution in the country” and
that the insurgents abhor any form of progress or development.
He said though his principal, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), won’t be able to carry weapons to face the marauders like he did when he was much younger as a military officer, he had ordered the Service Chiefs, and the Inspector General of Police to “wipe out these evil people. Kill them. Eliminate them.”
The presidential aide also blamed Nigerians for the insecurity in the country, saying they perpetuate evil through negative comments.
“The role of some Nigerians in perpetuating anomie in the country is worrisome. Through their tongues. They say evil about the country, utter negativity, thinking
they are saying it against the government of the day.
I mean even bishops, pastors, imams, commentators, talk show hosts, all sorts. They are engaged in war of tongues with Nigeria. They don’t know that the more they say it, the more evil happens. The cup fills up, and runs over.
“Let’s change our tongues. Change our hearts about our country. Out of the abundance of the heart, the
mouth speaks. Let’s begin to bless our country, rather than curse, and sow negatives in the hearts of people.”
“Those who visit evil on society do not deserve to live, no matter what some activists may say. They
should be sent to hell, and I join the President to plead with our security agencies: wipe them out. Kill them. Eliminate them. They have declared war against the country and its people. We are at war, yes we are. They do not deserve to live. They have lost their humanity. Wipe them out. Kill. Eliminate,” he admitted.

Sports / … Abuja Indigenes Claim Responsibility For Eagles’ Failure by seunadebisi(m): 11:10am On Mar 31, 2022
A group, which claims to be the indigenous people of Abuja, has said that Nigeria will never win any match at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, because the stadium is sitting on the graves of their ancestors.
The group, Abuja Grassroots Advocacy Projects, accused the Federal Government of neglecting the natives and forcefully seizing their lands without compensating them.
In a statement signed by Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf and Buhari Barkonun Abuja, the group claimed that since the Federal Government has failed to compensate the original occupants of the kukwaba district before their partial resettlement to kubwa, Nigeria should never expect any victory from both local and international
tournament where the Abuja National stadium was used.
They also allege that the Federal Government has been treating the FCT natives like third class citizens,
threatening that the “long term consequences will continue to haunt and demean Nigeria’s dignity until the age-long issues against the Nigerian government are addressed.”
MEANWHILE, the Nigeria Football Federation has tendered unreserved apology to the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria for the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for this year’s FIFA
World Cup finals holding in Qatar.
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi regretted that the team failed to qualify despite the enormous support of Government and the good people of Nigeria who turned out in throngs to fill up the 60,491 –capacity Moshood Abiola National
Stadium, Abuja for the clash with Ghana’s Black Stars on Tuesday.
“There was nothing the team needed that was lacking. The Government provided necessary support; the NFF put all logistics in place with the active support of the Sports Ministry and Nigerians turned out en masse to support the team. The truth is that we left nothing to chance. It is sad that things turned out the way they did.
“Sport is about winning and losing. Nobody wants to lose but sometimes it happens that way. We are quite sad that despite playing a draw in Kumasi, the Super Eagles could not win here in Abuja. We apologise unreservedly to the Government and people of Nigeria for this non-qualification.”

Politics / Agitation For Indigenous Vcs: Nigerian Varsities No Longer Universal — ASUU by seunadebisi(m): 10:46am On Mar 31, 2022
THE Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has described the agitations by some individuals and groups that indigenes of towns where universities are sited be made the vice chancellors of such universities as reducing the institutions to local entities.
The union, through the National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, in a chat with Vanguard, also said universities are universal in nature and that appointments there should be devoid of ethnic and other sentiments. The union was reacting to the recent action by some people in Ile Ife who protested against the choice of a non-indigene as the VC of Obafemi Awolowo University.
“They have taken universality out of the university system in the country. Assuming without conceding the fact, does it mean an ile Ife son has not been vice chancellor in any other university? That is the ridiculous level we have found ourselves regarding the handling of education issues in the country We now have a situation whereby some members of Governing Councils are appointed because of political considerations not competence. Some of them don’t know their onions.
“When Adamu Baike was the VC of UNIBEN did where he came from matter? Eni Njoku was VC in UNILAG, Dike was VC in UI. Is VC not about being competent? So, the VCs in all universities in the South-West must be Yoruba, those in the North must be Hausa/Fulani and those in the South-East must be Igbo? The university is universal and a Russian can be heading a university in America and vice versa.”
He also wondered if the funds used in setting up these universities were sourced from their host communities only. The ASUU boss also blamed the government for not putting the right persons in the Governing Councils of the universities, saying some council members lacked the knowledge of how to run the universities.
In recent times, the choice of who become the VCs of some universities has been turned into what some people have labelled ‘a show of shame.’ Recently, some people took over the main gate of OAU to protest the non-recommendation of an Ife man as the next OAU VC.
Meanwhile, the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association has dissociated itself from the OAU protest. A statement by Chief Ifasola Onifade and Dr Oluseyi Atanda, exonerated the group from the issue.
“While we recognise the inalienable right of whoever feels aggrieved to protest of any perceived injustice, we consider it strange that our sacred costumes, parapanelia and other items (except charms and strange objects as reported) synonymous with traditionalists were adorned by the protesters.
“After thorough checks, we discovered that the protesters were neither members of TRAWSO in our Ile-Ife branch, nor belong to our other branches around the Ile Ife community. As respected members of traditional institution, we were not involved in the running of the affairs of OAU and we were not involved in the processes that led to the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor for the University, hence, we have no justifiable reason to protest the appointment of the VC of the institution, a federal university for that matter.”
“We call on security agencies to investigate and uncover those that dressed like traditionalists and
invaded OAU and prosecute those that are found wanting. Our members were not involved in the protest. The activities of those involved are self-serving and shameful.
The worrisome aspect is the fact that the protesters tended to portray us in bad light as fetish and uncivilised and we warn against the use of our items by people that are not known to us. Those that are involved should be warned seriously as our members
will not take kindly with the repeat of such show of shame which may attract stronger reaction, or even
litigation from our end to protect our integrity.
“We also advise whoever wants to express displeasure through protest to take proper channel and desist from the conducts capable of destroying the integrity and honour of others. We want to place
it on record that our members did not participate in such despicable acts and we dissociate ourselves
from the protest and describe same as inexplicable to use anything belonging to us, when in the real sense of it, the cause of the protest has nothing to do with
us.
“We believe in fairness and we oppose cutting corners. We did not participate in the protest within the Campus of OAU and we are not in anyway displeased with the management of the University regarding the running of the Institution.”

Culture / Moremi Ajasoro, Princess Of The Yoruba.. by seunadebisi(m): 9:12am On Mar 31, 2022
Moremi Ajasoro, Princess of the Yoruba..
(Yoruba: Mọ́remí Àjàsorò) was a figure of high significance in the history of the Yoruba peoples of West Africa. Born a princess, she was a courageous queen whose fame contributed to the victory of the Yoruba people over a neighbouring people.
Moremi was a member by marriage of the royal family of Oduduwa, the Yoruba's fabled founding father.
The Ayaba Moremi lived in the 12th century, hailed from Offa, and was married to Oranmiyan, the heir to the king of Ife and founding father of the Yoruba people, Oduduwa. Ile Ife was a kingdom that was said to have been at war with an adjoining tribe who were known to them as the Forest people. (Ìgbò in the Yoruba language, though the said tribe is believed by scholars to have had no relation to the contemporary Ìgbòs of modern Nigeria). Scores of Ife citizens were being enslaved by these people, and because of this they were generally regarded with disdain by the Yoruba city-states. Although the people of Ile-Ife were furious about these raids, they did not have the means to defend themselves. This is because the invaders were seen as spirits by the people of Ife, appearing as masquerades completely covered in raffia leaves.
Moremi was a very brave and beautiful woman who, in order to deal with the problem facing her people, pledged a great sacrifice to the Spirit of the river Esimirin so that she could discover the strength of her nation's enemies.
She is said to have been taken as a slave by the Igbo and, due to her beauty and Esimirin's help, married their ruler as his anointed queen. After familiarizing herself with the secrets of her new husband's army, she escaped to Ile-Ife and revealed
this to the Yorubas, who were then able to subsequently defeat them in battle.
Following the war, she returned to her first husband, King Oramiyan of Ife (and later Oyo), who immediately had her re-instated as his queen. Moremi returned to the Esimirin River to fulfill her pledge. The river demanded she sacrificed her only son, Oluorogbo. The demand was inconceivable and Moremi pleaded with the god for a less terrible offering. But in the end, she kept her promise and paid the price. The offering of Oluorogbo to the river god grieved not only Moremi but the whole kingdom of Ife. The Yoruba people consoled Moremi by offering to be her eternal children a promise kept
until today.
The Edi Festival is said to have then been started as a means of celebrating the sacrifice the princess made for the people of Yorubaland. Furthermore, a number
of public places are named after her in contemporary Nigeria, such as the female residence halls at the
University of Lagos and Obafemi Awolowo University.
In 2017, Oba Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ile Ife, Osun State, erected a statue of Moremi in his palace. The
statue is the tallest in Nigeria, displacing the previous holder of that record (a statue in Owerri, the Imo State capital). It is also the fourth tallest in Africa.
