Scalability is not the focal point of a basic tutorial, but knowledge of basic concepts and work-arounds. You are correct about the scalability of what he built, but remember it was done out of a tutorial on a professional level one should ideally use web-sockets but it depends on purpose, for a simple live chat system, the program may survive but for a group chat system, it will fail many times if there are not enough server resources or it may timeout. But still it was just tutorial and no one cares.
dhtml18: Dont mind the dude, he thinks I am a newbie eh.
No vex, na the small boy @KvnqPrezo they provoke me. You suppose flog am sha. Abi na you send am make him come fight for you??
KvnqPrezo: Lol I see you don't know it... . Am not surprised because you've not solved any code problem since the beginning of this topic.. All you do is criticize... . Smh
All you just do is blab your mouth. For a confirmed rookie you should talk less and listen more.

I also teach people too(In the real sense). You dont start up teaching people the wrong way of solving a problem, even if you do you need to lay emphasis that this is the wrong way of going about it. No one uses a database to create a chat application except they are using it for authenticating users. Creating a mysql backed chat is actually the wrong way of teaching chat concepts. You start them up with a tcp based client-server example or something....
Borwe: You mean the GUI side by your take? Because things like ArrayList etc are also part of java SE
ArrayList is not part of SE but part of the Java Language SDK. There is a difference. SE is the desktop environment. ME is the mobile environment(practically dead now) EE is the enterprise/web environment the SDK is a set of classes(libraries) bundled with the environments. It differs in each environment. In some environment the class may just be a small lightweight(few methods) version of the original version in other versions.
KvnqPrezo: I'm trying my best not to insult anybody here and I don't want to be banned... . You said its wrong please provide alternative...
Its simple oga..
A young boy went to meet a lion in the zoo. The following conversation ensued: Boy: Mr Lion can you prove to me that you are really a Lion. Lion walks round its cage and growls then says Lion: I dont need to prove a point. But if you still want to be sure, just open the cage.
Borwe: By SE do you mean JavaSE? or? Well, I dont think Java is dead, android still running off it, not to mension the billions of enterprizes around the world?
Java is not dead. It will remain relevant for many years too come. And yes SE is the Standard Edition(Desktop Java). Its dead. Sun and then Oracle have tried to revive it over the years but the issue is web and now mobile is more appealing. So dont waste your time on SE. You many never get too many jobs for developing desktop java apps.
dhtml18: I am very busy multi-tasking several jobs at the same time, no-time-to-check-time mode. Anyone that wants a competition or drag anything with me will have to wait. For now, you guys should catch your fun. . . . . .over and out
By the way, I am glad to see some activity on this board after such a long time.
Correct guy. No mind uche. Eventually "uche will face his work and stop calling other people's problem". LOL
KvnqPrezo: I have not insulted you here!! . Please respect yourself and proof you're better than dhtml... . Create a thread teaching us how to create a chat app like whatsapp ( and also scale 1.5b users)
I'm waiting
I dont need to prove am better than him. I know already and just to inform you am your grandfather in this profession you are entering. In 5 years time i would be your great grand father. Olodo.
Borwe: Bro, this is not public opinion, who ever codes wins, sin't this what the thread was about? Or it was a just a battle between two trolls?
We have already decided this. Read the thread. @dhtml18 refused to engage me in a question and answer. Someone else took his place and i eventually showed that guy who was boss. Mind you the guy was not even a programmer but felt like helping @dhtml18 out. The question you even asked us to do is very very below my level. I wrote those kind of applications in 2004, just for emphasis no one is doing SE again.
KvnqPrezo: Here you come again... Stop assuming stuff bro..
He gave us a clue and it really helped. . He is not a perfect programmer. You can correct him if you think he's wrong... . I challenge you to create a thread and teach us how to create a app like whatsapp..
Are going to do it I willing to learn since dhtml got it wrong (as you said)...
Assuming?? Ask @dhtml18 if what he created would scale. Oya am waiting.... Na mysql connection go frustrate the project. Olodo.
Borwe: When you keep commenting here and dhtml18 is busy coding, and when he posts it you will know who the real pro is. LOL Notice he hasn't posted in 10 minutes since I put that question.
Let him win na. According to his own way of thinking. Best programmers are selected in court of public opinion. LOL. If you need the code i will send it to you but aside that i am busy on a job.
DanielTheGeek: Ofcourse I know what an NDA is, but do you mean those people hired you without going through your portfolio? Whay kind of stack overflow is this??
Well, i send screenshots of my previous work. In most cases you dont even need to see previous work at a higher level. I win jobs because i can intelligently analyze the solution to the client. If i met you right now and we spoke for 5-10 mins, i can easily rate your skill level. At that level thats the way jobs are done mostly. Rarely do you see people ask to see what you have done before. They do that for people who they are not confident about their ability to handle the job.
Borwe: OKay here is question for you guys to compete over, who ever codes this first and actually makes it run is WINNER!!!!!!
Question: Make a Java Application using only one .java file. The application should be a GUI, at the center should be a ball that moves from left to right changing color everytime it hits the end, the Color change should be random, On the West side should be your Nairaland Name text written in Bold Vertically with the font "Stencil" (Don't worry, windows supports this, so does Mac and Linux OS I think.).On the West side put a text showing a joke of the opponent. On the North and South side code a text that pops for atleast 5 seconds on the north, then 5 seconds on the south, but text should never be On both north and south at same time, the text can be anything of your choosing. Lastly, the GUI should have no windows Border.
Hint: Use BorderLayout for locating the North, South,East,West and Center positions....
Now GO!!!
Is this something you really want to use or just for the fun of it. If its something you need i can help out. Its been a while i touched SE but he still dey body.
Borwe: Bro what are you saying? Let the guys just answer that question above, first one to post something that runs wins, all you guys can test t yourselves in your own PC's that's the beauty of java.
Also about this about asking about why we have many frameworks, I don't refuse, Like there is also Whatsapp and Telegram, all do similar things, but each tries to bost of something it does that the other doesn't in clear text. dhtml's stuff has shallow description.
now you can do #fact
This Hashtag people always make me cry. If they knew what IRC is, and how to use the chating with it.
Is this something you really want to use or just for the fun of it. If its something you need i can help out. Its been a while i touched SE but he still dey body.
DanielTheGeek: I thought this thread was dead, Kvngprezo just started a horror movie. I partly understand what Seunthomas is saying, sometimes you build apps undercover for clients without claiming the project (some clients want It that way) and thus have nothing to boast of. But still within 6 years of your android development experience, you should have at least deployed an app (even beginners make hello-world apps). Sorry to say but if Zuckerberg was like you, then there would be no Facebook. Get bold 'ol man, I know you have projects, you're just shy or afraid (find your fear here and conquer it).
Am not shy ohh. I have to very important apps currently running in this country. One is used in a very important financial house and its a public facing application with very high daily usage. The other belongs to a very popular media company. If you know what NDA's are you would understand its also about honour.
KvnqPrezo: @Borwe Mr dhtml18 created a thread "How To Create A Chat App Like Whatsaap" how wish whatsapp was open sourced you won't have said he forked their code... Acknowledge your ignorance
What he created wont scale. I doubt it can handle up to 100 users. Latency would also be very high. You may not get messages within secounds like whatsapp and other chat app. The wahala of establishing http connections an closing them is another overhead. Its a good attempt but not how such apps are built.
KvnqPrezo: Another failure to answer my question... . I didn't say I haven't seen the code before.. . I said paste it here lets see and clear our doubt asap...
lets I'm not referring to myself alone (simple English )
See, i dont have time to teach or encourage your folly. Since you were not in your right frame of mind when you were reading the thread 100%, i recommend you read the thread 100% again and you would see where i explained the code "thiefry" by your mentor.
Borwe: LOL. Our simple questions about your prjects became so hard you stopped typing("talking" in pure english like before
@Borwe, easy on the guy na. He is cool. By the way anybody notice NL is feeling stress over our discussion. Apparently NL is not equipped for this kind of constant writes....
Borwe: dhtml style coding: If Whatsapp was opensource: dhtml: *Dhtml starts thinnking out loud* Hmm, let me fork that project, and then change the package name from com.whatsapp to com.dhtml.messaging. And change the name from WhatsApp to.....Hmm........ yes, NairaMessenger
dhtml18: You know when you play street fighter and the screen shows - KO (Knocked Out) - that one mean say game don finish be that. No amount of talks or anything will resurrect anybody from this thread, as far as this troll is concerned
@dude, if you are ready for a challenge, I can take you on - but that will be a new thread - so that nobody will help you share out of your damages. My private repository is very full at the moment, and I can always make anything public. By the way, my framework is ready and already in production - I just did not feel like releasing it on github.
Dude, i have no beef with you. You write code but not as much as you claim. At least from what i have seen you are not a rookie. You are more intermediary/advanced from my observation.
KvnqPrezo: Call me whatever you like but like I said "Am not criticizing you. . You haven't answered anything... . Yes i know what am saying and if you want me to believe you then show me a solid proof... . Mr seunthomas please answer this question... ** Why Do You Use Framework ***
A framework is not the same as a fork mr man. See advice is if you dont know much, just keep quiet so you dont expose your folly. That is just common sense.
KvnqPrezo: Do you know you've just violated Nairaland Rule ⬇
8. Don't post false information on Nairaland.
But the dude is correct. Almost all the code in @dhtml18 is other people's work. He just renamed the projects. Their is an idealogy behind a project fork. In most cases people fork code because they dont agree with the direction the original work is heading. You dont take other people's work and make some cosmetic changes and then call that a fork.
KvnqPrezo: . Lolz I don't think so... . You must be a genius to be able to fork code.. . According to the thread he has cleared himself about the dhtmlsql and you haven't done so! . Okay I learn most of my coding from Jake wright and I write code like him.. And it happens that we have similar project and because I code like him will you say I copied him project
Don't wanna argue with you sha
You are a programming illiterate. Do you know anything about software licensing??. Do you know what a fork is??
Seunthomas, I want to see your work so I can learn from it... (I think its a good reason) no more talks please just show the work or forever remain silent...
OK ohhh. Wish you best of luck with @dhtml18 who plagiarizes people's work and claims them as his own original work. Thats the kind of role model you need. LOL.
KvnqPrezo: @seunthomas You said you are 100% sure I didn't read this thread from start? Okay cool, can I get proof to backup your claims . Yeah you said the thread was for fun but according to your post it's more of a challenge.. . Since its not longer fun then show your work... . There's no big deal about it...
If indeed you read the whole post, you would know we where all just kidding around. Why would i show my work?? What exactly am i trying to prove to you or anyone for that matter.
