So the issue here is the make of your car. Peugeot 207 has a bad reputation for being expensive to repair. That said, you should try to use insurance comparison sites like moneysupermarket.com , confused.com , gocompare.com . Also, perhaps input your provisional license as your main license as opposed to your Nigerian driver’s license. That might help as this worked for me.

Does the Peugeot 308 suffer same fate as the 207 in terms of maintenance?

Electric issues; Has nothing to do with Manual or auto, just how much kazim did connect & join for bonnet...as long as u no get dat, U got no issues.

Time belt about to go out: The check engine lights comes on( with some error), d squealing sounds etc...For tukonbo U can actually check how old d belt is by opening d case( marks & writing fresh? gud to go, Faded without history? change am), 9ja used ( ask d owner)...Best to change belt around 5-6 years....it can stay longer..but better to change am b4 d symptoms starts as it could snap..

Interior design & the exterior of the 308 is superb , better handling too , though I only drove it within & not for long , my only issue of the 308 is some find it difficult around the vehicle ..

308 too is cool , but not as durable as 307 . I think northern mech know their way around older models of Peugeot , but those new products enh from 2009 upwards give them head/heartache

Thanks but explain how the 307 is better than the 308?
I thought the 308 has more interior space and better design than the 307.

For me I fancy the 308 but I have not seen it in my area to make assessment of.

If you are bent on the 307 then make out time a visit a good Peugeot mechanic and chat with him or look for a user of same ride a have a chat about your concerns.

There are good and bad cars everywhere both tokunbo or Naija used.

The issue is the ability to identify, verify, inspect and buy the right car of your choice.

The most important things are past maintainance history, rust issues, transmission, engine condition etc

So basically you should get a specialist diagnostic person i.e a car doctor to guide before buying so you don't end up buying a lemon.

I love that, but why is it not common in the south and west? May be they have the technical know how to maintain it there.
I would love to have the Peugeot 308.

You will however need to get the right one that works perfectly with your car.

Also for the new BSI to work some remapping might be required to connect to the engine ECU.

I don't own a Peugeot but admire it alot, I heard it has a lot of electrical issues may be that's why Nigerians are afraid of driving it. Thanks.

BSI means Built-in System Interface.

It’s kind of like an ECU for all other electrical systems other than the engine, but it is connected to the engine ECU via a CANBUS interface.

It also controls everything electrical in the car, from immobiliser, to communicating with the indicator stalk unit/wiper unit, wiper speed, electric windows etc..

Once it goes bad, and you can't get a specialist to fix it, then you're in for a long ride.

Please can't this BSI be replaced?

centre stack buttons for LX and SE are just big flat buttons with two round knobs at the end to control the AC, and driver’s seat has manual levers to slide and adjust them. Some mid level tier trim SE or LX has sun roof and some people add chrome tipped exhaust.


The EX models which are the top tier (full option)have 3 toggle switches which control dual zone climates and cabin air inlet speeds, driver seat are electronically controlled. They all have Sun roof and chrome tipped exhaust outlet.
