MR. Moses Akinmurele of the National Teachers Institute (NTI), Kaduna, on Thursday said that screening of candidates for the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme in Lagos State would commence on March 7. Akinmurele, the NTI Coordinator for Lagos State, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the exercise would determine the number of candidates qualified for the programme. "The screening is to ascertain if the students are qualified and competent, and to ensure that they meet the minimum requirement," the NTI official said. NAN reports that the institute had in April 2014 got approval for the first time to commence an Online Distance Learning (ODL) programme for the B.Ed. degree. He said that six courses -- English, Mathematics, Primary Education, Physical Education, Social Studies and Technical Sciences -- would be offered in the programme. According to him, the programme will provide an avenue for working class candidates desirous of higher qualifications in education, to achieve their dreams. The Management of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB,
has said its application forms for the 2015 Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination, UTME, are now available nationwide for
prospective candidates, reaffirming that the examination will be on
Computer-Based Test (mode) only.
He said the registration period will last between Monday September 15,
2014 and Thursday January 15, 2015, while the website closes Monday
January 19, 2015.
Mr. Benjamin stated that in addition to the registration fee,
candidates will be expected to pay additional N500 for a copy of a
newly introduced textbook, 'The Last Days at Forcados High School',

May/June Waec result 2014 is officially out. The West Africa Examination Council(WAEC) has released its West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for the 2014/2015 academic session, recording mass failure in Mathematics and English Language.
Head of National Office Mr. Charles Eguridu who announced the results today said out of 1,692,435 candidates that sat for the examination, 791,227 candidates, representing 46.75%, obtained 6 credits and above, just as a total of 982,472 candidates representing 58.05%, obtained 5 credits and above.
Eguridu disclosed that the results of 145,795 candidates, representing 8.61%, are being withheld in connection with various types of examination malpractice.

The lecturers had been on strike since October. The Academic Staff union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has suspended its 10-month-old strike. The strike, which started in October, was suspended on Saturday morning at the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the union held in Abuja.
