Okonjo Iweala really did good 4 herself in her chosen career but 4 Nigeria, no no no no. Hundreds of Osun indigenes on Saturday defied morning downpour to enjoy free train ride provided by their Governor Rauf Aregbesola for Eid-El-Kabir celebration. The train took off from Lagos for Oshogbo. The Aregbesola-led government has been offering the free train ride to Osun indigenes every festive season in the past six years. Some of the commuters commended the governor for giving them the opportunity of going home to see their loved ones. A civil servant, Mr Tajudeen Olafare, who boarded the train with his wife and three children, said that it was his first time of boarding a train. “We have been here since 4a.m. from Okokomaiko, waiting to board the train; it is real,” Olafare said. Another commuter, Mrs Oluwatoyin Ajao, said that the free ride was a good initiative, especially in a period of economic recession. According to her, the gesture has given many Osun indigenes the opportunity of spending festive periods in their villages at little or no cost. Meanwhile, Mr Jerry Oche, the Lagos Railway District Manager of Nigerian Railway Corporation, said that the available train could not convey all intending passengers on Saturday. Oche said that some of the passengers had been told to wait till Sunday since the train had a maximum capacity. Oche said: “We have two trains tomorrow but today it is one; l advise that people should not hang on the train because it is a long journey. “People should cooperate with our checkers and security agents. I have told our checkers and security agents to be vigilant during the journey.” The 10-coach train was filled with people, bags of rice and rams. The 2016 Eid-El-Kabir is slated for Sept. 12. www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/09/10/osun-indigenes-defy-downpour-to-enjoy-aregbesolas-free-train-ride/ |

Argentina managed a 2-2 draw against
Venezuela in the Conmebol World Cup
qualifier as Lionel Messi missed the game
due to a groin injury. Messi scored the
winner in a 1-0 victory over Uruguay last
week but suffered a groin injury after
making a return to international football. He had announced retirement from international football in July after Argentina lost to Chile in the Copa America Centenario final. Lionel Messi has landed in controversy again for missing the game against Venezuela. Renowned journalist Martin Liberman criticised Messi, as the Barcelona man posted a photo on social media with a caption that indicated that his injury was not that serious. The journalist said, “Messi’s injury is so bad that he couldn’t help his teammates against Venezuela? It was that bad? Because when he arrived in Barcelona he had his groin attended to and he posted a photo saying “Everything’s fine, don’t worry. ' If that’s the case, why not play against Venezuela?” The journalist said, “Messi’s injury is so bad that he couldn’t help his teammates against Venezuela? It was that bad? Because when he arrived in Barcelona he had his groin attended to and he posted a photo saying “Everything’s fine, don’t worry. ' If that’s the case, why not play against Venezuela?” Liberman had earlier criticised Messi's return to international football. He asked whether it was a strategy to avoid criticism after losing three finals in the recent past. “It would be a disgrace to not play against Venezuela and then to play against Alaves." he continued. After this incident, the debate over Messi's supposed lack of commitment to his national team will heat up in the coming days. The Argentinian said, "I am very grateful to return to the national team. But I did not deceive anybody when I retired, I felt that. We were very disappointed with what had happened, but after that I thought better. I had a conversation with the manager, Bauza and the people as well accompanied me through it." After eight games in the qualifying group, Uruguay occupies the top spot with Brazil close in second. A draw against Venezuela proved costly as Argentina slipped from the top spot to third place. Colombia is in fourth place while Ecuador is in the fifth spot. |
