Education / Alleviating Poverty (education) by Shaina933(m): 11:11am On Nov 16, 2016 |
Bill Gate once said – ”If you are born poor then it’s not your fault, but if you die poor then it’s your fault. Poverty is one teacher too many. It is a curse to a nation. It clearly denotes that the assets of a nation are not enough for its people. Illiteracy is one cogent factor that cannot be overlooked which makes poverty abound amongst the populace. No matter how much we try, our level of education or can I call it understanding will always limit us. Illiteracy as most people say is a disease. A very deadly one so to say. When I mention Education as one of the means by which poverty can be alleviated, I know most parents and guardians cannot send their wards to school because they can’t afford the school fees, cost of books amongst others. That’s why I’m advocating for a free, up to standard and compulsory education for all. This will not only reduce poverty but will give us a more informed environment. Education equip people with knowledge and prepare them psychologically, intellectually and socially to deal with challenges of everyday life. Hence, it stands as a foundation for good morals, stability and prosperity. Needless to say, it helps equip students with core transferable competences needed to succeed. If the government can make education completely free, up to standard and compulsory, then literacy rate will rise abruptly. Futhermore, government should create awareness among the people sensitizing them on the importance of education. Also, students should be inspired and encouraged to take different fields of study and not just follow the mainstream job lines as that will result in the oversaturation of that particular job. |
