About MamaLingua Kids
MamaLingua Kids is a learning home for children aged 3–16. We help children develop confidence in their heritage languages while protecting parental trust and nurturing each child’s curiosity. Our teaching avoids stereotypes, shame, comparison and unnecessary pressure.
Role summary
We are looking for a warm, reliable and culturally thoughtful Yoruba teacher to deliver engaging lessons for children at different ages and ability levels.
The teacher will help learners develop practical skills in speaking, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading, writing and cultural understanding. Lessons should make children feel safe to try, make mistakes and progress at their own pace.
The work is full-time and remote
What you will do
Teach live Yoruba lessons to children aged 3–16, individually or in small groups.
Adapt teaching methods for different ages, abilities and learning needs.
Teach accurate Yoruba vocabulary, greetings, conversations, pronunciation, tones and diacritics.
Develop learners’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Use stories, songs, games, flashcards, pictures and everyday situations to make learning enjoyable.
Prepare age-appropriate lesson plans, activities and supporting materials.
Follow MamaLingua Kids programmes, courses, units, lessons and learning objectives.
Review existing Yoruba content for spelling, grammar, tone marks, natural usage and cultural accuracy.
Help create or review vocabulary entries, example sentences, stories, games, assessments and flashcards.
Record clear pronunciation samples or lesson audio when required.
Give children encouraging, specific and pressure-free feedback.
Monitor attendance, participation and learning progress.
Record brief lesson notes for parents and the MamaLingua Kids team.
Communicate respectfully with parents or guardians about progress and support needs.
Identify when content may be too difficult, sensitive or unsuitable for a child’s age.
Attend teacher meetings, training and curriculum-review sessions.
Protect children’s privacy and follow all safeguarding procedures.
Report safeguarding, wellbeing or technical concerns promptly.
Teaching approach
The successful teacher will:
Welcome different dialects and family language experiences without presenting children’s home speech as inferior.
Explain standard written Yoruba while respectfully acknowledging recognised variations.
Correct mistakes gently and constructively.
Avoid ridicule, forced performance, public ranking or comparison between children.
Avoid gender, ethnic, religious or regional stereotypes.
Use culture as living, diverse knowledge rather than a fixed set of costumes or clichés.
Encourage children to use Yoruba in meaningful everyday situations.
Work collaboratively with families while maintaining professional boundaries.
Essential requirements
Strong spoken and written Yoruba.
Confident use of Yoruba tone marks and diacritics.
Strong spoken and written English.
Experience teaching or working with children.
Ability to explain language concepts clearly and patiently.
Ability to teach across different age groups or specialise in a defined age range.
Reliable internet connection and a suitable device for online teaching.
Quiet, professional and child-appropriate teaching environment.
Good organisation, punctuality and communication.
Willingness to follow safeguarding, privacy and content-quality policies.
Eligibility to complete the required background or safeguarding checks.
Desirable experience
Qualification in Yoruba, linguistics, education, early childhood education or a related subject.
Experience teaching Yoruba as a heritage or additional language.
Experience with online learning platforms.
Experience creating children’s educational content.
Familiarity with play-based, inquiry-led or inclusive teaching.
Experience supporting neurodivergent learners or children with additional learning needs.
Audio recording, storytelling, singing or educational-game experience.
Knowledge of more than one Yoruba dialect or regional variety.
Safeguarding responsibilities
This role involves working with children. The teacher must:
Complete identity, reference and background checks where applicable.
Complete MamaLingua Kids safeguarding training.
Use only approved communication and teaching channels.
Never contact a child privately outside the approved platform.
Never request unnecessary personal information from a child.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
Report concerns according to the safeguarding procedure.
Performance expectations
Success in this role will be measured through:
Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Lesson preparation and curriculum alignment.
Accuracy and quality of Yoruba instruction.
Child engagement, confidence and appropriate progress.
Respectful communication with families.
Timely completion of lesson notes and assigned content reviews.
Compliance with safeguarding and privacy requirements.
Constructive collaboration with the MamaLingua Kids team.

So you think it’s stone the lecturers have been feeding family for over six months they were on strike,what about their children school fees,other responsibilities they have been on.Some of them are really in serious debt hoping on whenever they call off the strike they will get their pay.

Is it their fault that they are on strike,why can’t you people have sympathy or atleast put yourself in their shoes,why do you lots always like to over pamper a govt that doesn’t care about you?

You see that backlog,they must pay it,if they don’t have the money,let them cut all this useless salaries and allowances they take every month to pay them

No be for this government you say money no dey one person dey thief 156 billion naira and we never here anything about his prosecution again?

They should pay every dime ASUU is asking for,they earned it.

You may be right to some point, the truth is everybody is selfish. The ASUU, The Federal Government. Some of the Lecturers are working in private universities. It is only the student that is suffering. have you thought about this, why state universities joined the ASUU strike since they are not going to get any benefits from the strike? Every 2 years, ASUU must strike to ask for one thing or the other. the value of education has decreased. Imagine the ASUU saying they will cover 7 Months curriculum in 3 Months.

Who is paying the state university lecturers, is it the federal government or the state government? why has Lautech or any other state universities joined? Who is the employer here?

NANS is clueless, The truth is that they are protesting in the wrong way, if NANS want us to believe that they are really fighting for the students They should go and protest in ASO ROCK or the federal secretariat in Abuja. blocking roads or airports is wrong because it will affect the masses. have they thought of emergencies that need to get to the hospital in time or someone that already used his/her last money to book for air ticket or someone that the time will affect to get to his or her destination may be for an interview or any other purposes.

We quickly jump to violence because we do not think properly, we are affecting our parents because of our actions. don't be surprised that most NANS officials are political tools and do not have the interest of students at heart. check their ages and you will understand. God bless Nigeria.
