RomanceThinking Aloud by Shanice111(op): 2:42am On Jun 23, 2011
It is 2am and I haven't slept. I have been thinking critically, its hard to sleep when the clock is ticking even though I know that sleep is good. I ama  26 years old woman and say what you like there is heavy pressure  for me to get married. If you don't believe this it is three things you are not Nigerian, you haven't followed nairaland's topics and you are not a woman. I am very attractive, well educated so everyone expects me to have "settled" by now, sadly after one too many near misses, I am waiting for the one that is meant for me. In the meantime, I had the strangest encounter with a "man of God"? who offered to pray for me. You see out of curiosity I did contact him after hearing that he is called to the single ministry whatever this means. Well we talked and he goes that my husband will locate me but I have to "sow a seed". I prayed he will not say money because I am very weary of this "Nigerian god" who needs money all the time. Well you guessed, he wanted money infact plenty of it and I gave him the most difficult phone call ever, educating him with scriptures why God doesn't need my money to give me something I need. I am allergic to bullshit sorry no offense intended.

Now as I lie here, I wonder just how many people have lost the little they have over bogus expectations. I am thinking maybe I would start a useful match making organization. Too many people are single because opportunities to meet other like minded singles are oftentimes limited. Or maybe I won't start any match making association, I would just get marry and forget I was ever single ( I doubt this I am too passionate about solving problems and now singleness looks like a problem, no thanks to my loving society). From my own singleness if you may I have learnt that the unnecessary pressure to marry, emphasized by many a nairaland post including mine is a sad culture. If you are over 30 and still a "Miss" you must have been a LovePeddler or have a very very very bad character (Oh yes be very afraid)! If me with all my "common sense hopefully and sometimes good judgment" could make that call that was going to extract a "seed" from me, then I only wonder how may "seedless seeds" have gone to waste. There are terrible problems the world over, sometimes its hard to deal with these storms. I understand this reality, and  why "problem entrepreneurs" capitalize and exploit these situations. I get that, somewhat. There is always a "quick solution" to a pending problem from someone who has no clue on how to solve theirs!

My final thought as I retire to my cold yet loving bed. Maybe just maybe when we pray God has heard and He will answer us in His own time. the waiting period is unbelievably hard, lonely, depressing and sometimes all of the listed challenges. Still, if we manage to wake up everyday positive and hopeful someday we will experience our own miracles. Mine would be a man who is after God's heart that loves humanity and then me, for you it maybe a child or the lounging for the lost love of a spouse or something else. Whatever it is can we all agree to just wait? Can I be a little more patient that my time will come? I hope so. At least for one thing I would still have my money or seed to sow to someone who truly needs it, like a child without a parent or a widow. Dear Lord, forgive my unbelief, I am only human, I know you will do it, but I panic. I guess that how Peter walked on water and then almost drowned? We are the same yeah? Okay am off to sleep. From my rumblings, I guess my point is can society just cut single women and men I guess (over 50 or  70 maybe, the rest under this age bracket are  regarded as fine, fair world right?) some slack? And of course can people stop taking advantage of other people's problems (I doubt my 2 cents anyways)? and lastly, if you are like me and scared stiff about the future, I guess you are not alone (this should be comforting, if you agree to be comforted) but whilst you wait don't get desperate. Too many entrepreneurs in Naija, everyone is hungry and wants to eat, don't forget that! If you must give, give to charity whatever charity means to you! cheers!
PoliticsRe: Great Leaders In Nigeria's History Before Total Colonisation by Shanice111: 11:18am On May 27, 2011
This definitely is the most educative thread on Nairaland. As a bini woman who has heard oral history from Parents, I am happy to read the accurate recounts of our history on nairaland. Its sad that Benin City has declined compared to her past. I pray our history will challenge us to rebuild our City and contribute meaningfully to the sustenance of Nigeria.

Oba gha to kpere Ise, (Hope that's correct, sadly my written bini is not too good). Too much stay in the white man's land.

On the other cultures I am happy Nigeria has such rich history. I just wish our children are taught proper history to inspire pride and patriotism and a sense of greatness. Our stories can be told like those of ancient Greeks. I just hope we see that more unites us than divides us! Long live Federal Republic ofNigeria/ Naija! May we all live long to see Nigeria progress Amen, God bless Nigeria/Naija. It is well with us Amen. Please keep the thread going I am learning alot,
RomanceRe: Why Are Intelligent Girls Rare? by Shanice111: 10:50am On Apr 30, 2011
As a woman who was voted best graduating student for all her degrees, I will say women are indeed intelligent. My experience with men especially the under 30s (which I wont be looking at ever again) is that they are very slow learners. Put a woman of 21 with a guy of 21 no match in terms of knowledge and focus. There are different arguments as to why women act dumb, I will just lay 3 assumptions, gathered from friends and experience.

1.) A woman would act dumb to keep a man. Call me crazy but before I got to where I am now (that is confident in my sexuality and abilities), I was always more intelligent when compared to my boyfriends. They liked me because I am beautiful, funny and smart and I made them look good on campus, in church or in their family. In those relationships, I will hear my man make silly non factual arguments and I will many times let his slide to protect his fragile manhood. Its no secret that African men like to lead, howbeit blindly sometimes. When I tried to put my arguments forward, I lost the man. But these days this babe wont settle for mediocrity, because trust me many dumb men without vision or focus parade the streets. Albert Einstein is indeed long dead and now we left with Ray Js (with all due respect to him).

2). A woman will act dumb just to get married. My ex complained all the time he hates dumb girls. He loved me because I was different from other women. I had brain beauty and class (very funny). He cheated on me with a girl who dropped out of school, who used to worship him (in his words not mine). Gimme a break fellas "worship" really? I keep worship for God, who deserves it and rewards me for reverencing him. Anyways, we parted ways and even though we friends now and he complains how silly his girl friend is that she thought London was a country, he is getting married to her.

3). Maybe a woman is dumb just because she is, Like men we have some intelligent and some who quite frankly should be shipped to mars. Wasting off on this planet and leaving productivity and family growth in the hands of many a single mum (YA DIG?).

Anyways, if you are an intelligent woman with goals out there please emulate the Oprahs of this world. There is a man for you and there is no need to settle, hence, you promote threads like this. I met a brilliant lawyer who gave up her career for her husband who beats her non stop. She regrets now 7 years later as she is incredibly miserable. So all the S. David Borhas in the house ( CEO Stanbic IBTC is female), stay focused men who appreciate us are few but they exist, until then focus still,

RomanceRe: Should I Call Off This Relationship? Please Help by Shanice111(op): 5:15pm On Apr 29, 2011
I had to bring back this thread. I dint listen to good advice and dump this guy rather I stayed on because of the euphoria of an engagement and marriage. Well we finally broke up in January this year. I caught him cheating on me few months to the actual wedding! He started earning a little more cash all thanks to me for helping him get a job and before I could come back from a foreign trip he had moved some girl into his apartment and even had others on the side. He has been begging that it is temptation and the devils fault but people I have tried for this man. I leave him to God. His people have begged me even his friends but I know he is not my husband. When I saw this post which was sometime last year, I was reduced to tears. I should have called it off then but I was silly enough to believe he will change. His ex doesnt want him back, smart girl has moved on and now am over him.

Dear Lord, may my own man find me Amen.

Baffle for yourself  undecided

This dude is a thief and a criminal, are we talking about looks here

Benin city hasnt looked this good since the time of oyegun days

Did you vote him into power to beautify benin or rather make life better for the people of Edo state

This dude has done nothing worth of a single praise cos there has simply been No Jobs in that state,

He promised 5000 Jobs, i watched his swearing in oath on TV and was mainly gonna focus on the youths.

Today not even up to 200 Jobs in the whole state, where are the Youths all reckless and abadonded and to make issues worse

at home cos he's either increased school fees, lecturer's tax or sent everyone of them home on strike

No roads outside benin and lastly No security ( Instead he has increased the # of check points on federal roads )

Police now charge N50, while soliders charge N100 all under oshiomole rule  undecided

All he does is present a clean bill to the outside world where-as his mind is as black as charcoal and his indoors is as scattered as that

of a mad' man's home  undecided

May God punish that man ( Shege banza, Oloriburuku )
Oh dear, this 190 person wont quit. The arguments are hilarious and what is even funnier is it is laced with insults without any real strategy or road map for change or alternatives. Oshiomole isnt perfect but in Nigeria he is among the 5 working Governors and we have 36 States innit. So until we totally embrace democracy where elected officials are actually elected and perform, Oshiomole will do. Meanwhile, Americans are fed up of Obama, he promised jobs too and they still have record numbers of jobless people. Same thing in Britain, thats why the past Labour leader dint survive. Another election will come but we wont remove Oshiomole unless there is a better alternative. Until then let him continue the infrastructural developments which has created some employment and improve security hopefully the private sector will tap in. Alittle birdie told me that Guinness Nigeria plans to build the biggest Brewery in Africa in Benin (Very credible source). I hear the Governor is planning to expand road networks in Oregbeni to help achive this. Tell your friends to apply for jobs there soon, Edo State is working and we love our Governor! capishe,

is he a governor for edo state or for just benin

mscheww
Seriously 190 you are ridiculous to be honest! There is no food. light, education, doesn't that sum up Nigeria? Where is there light, food and water for all. Oops have you heard of a "national grid"? Do you know that power is an endemic problem and GEJ is privatising selling off as high as 70% to private investors source Business day newspapers. Oh outside Benin road construction is going on that much I can tell you. So the Governor dint just put a water fountain, there are actual roads to show. I watched an interview where he was asked why is he focusing on just roads, he said he has to start from somewhere and infrastructural development is needed. There are no jobs in Benin you say. Have you asked yourself why there are 20million people in Lagos? Nigeria's commercial focus is Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja (Just because its the capital). I have traveled the 36 states of Nigeria on business and Edo is like Ondo and the rest. If you visit Akure and you visit Benin its similar challenges dearth of industries. Sustainable infrastructural development will attract investment, Government builds the infrastructure ( remember social studies, public goods?) whilst the private sector invests. Please I just cant stand arguments that are not constructive.

I left London registered and voted Oshiomole and when he won in courts I was elated. I will not however, be a blind follower and claim perfection for my Governor but he is working unlike his predecessors and I refuse to allow you spread rumors with all due respect to your good self. I am sure you mean well, you desire change like the rest of us but you probably have a better candidate stashed somewhere? Please suggest a replacement for Oshiomole and if he or she is credible once Oshiomole's tenure is up, we may consider your candidate. Until you have a better replacement please just hold your laptop close and keep browsing!
PoliticsRe: Picture Of Governor Oshiomho In Voting Queue by Shanice111: 11:41pm On Apr 10, 2011
Oshiomole is the best Edo has had since Ogbemudia. All these insults. Lucky the thief was there for 8years and stole so much that Edo people couldnt say a word. He dint have to lift a finger. As a Benin woman I am ashamed people hate Oshiomole so much. Yes he likes women, yes he isnt perfect but my dear he is fixing Sapele road, Airport road, ring road, akpakpava road, air conditioned buses and so on. Even another central hospital is been built.

Look he isnt perfect but he is lifting a finger. Who called Osunbor's name here? 190 you are beyond ridiculous! The ugbowo road Osunbor patched with his stolen mandate is as bad as the road to my village. Osunbor who is under Anneih's grip. Please, can people get real? Visit Benin and see, atleast I have been there this year 3 times. There is visible governance. Yes there is unemployment and other iregularities but pray tell how long has he been in power? And please all you doom preachers who is the alternative? Some Anneih stooge or another Igbinedion. Anyways your friend Lucky is been probed now, let oshiomole steal he will go to jail like Lucky and Ibori. Nigeria wont work over night but let us allow good to shine. He isnt perfect, Fashola isnt a saint either but we know Obama isnt and you arent so we are humans imperfect. Still we must all police our elected leaders and oshiomole was duly elected, police him yes, be a constructive critic but above all do not allow your bad judgement ruin progress. Edo people will vote oshiomole again I am proudly unless he becomes Lucky Igbinedion or Anneih. Bob Izua did as he pleased under Lucky abeg let me stop and go have my ice cream Oshiomole was the first Governor in recent memory to tell us that we even pay tax. All this hate for nothing, he is working and will rule Edo until there is a better alternative.

If you criticize you should have alternatives! Someone said it is better not to have a Governor than to have Oshiomole how ridiculous. Please nairaland peeps visit Edo. Edo doesnt exist in cyber space, if you go there now and compare to just 2 years ago you will understand how shocked I am to hear a 190 err his/her very biased views. Nigeria will progress when we decide like Tunisia that enough is enough and stop the selective politics. I just cant believe this thread! Oshiomole isnt perfect but Edo hasnt had it this good!

the median age in naija is 17  shocked shocked shocked shocked what are ya ? a census worker ? when did you come to my house ? or my neighbors house ? abi you just yank that number out of ya azz ? country that dont know how many people are in it, no birth certificates, census records, computerized records etc etc. how you come about 17  shocked shocked shocked shocked see im mouth like 17
I am a 26 years old lecturer who happens to know that this is a fact. Yes we have challenges collating figures but with an error margin of +5 or minus 5 (or even 10 perhaps) this should still worry anybody. My point is we have so much useful human resource that can be channeled positively." Abracadabra" for want of a better word is not what we need!!! The euphoria and the petty sentiments don't help anyone. Nigerian youths need real jobs and if these entrepreneurial churches care then they can invest these tithes into something productive that will generate more tithes as there would be more workers to keep paying offering, tithes, first fruits, whatever other fruit, so everyone is happy. I belong to this so called " young population" and it is sad how politicians and religious leaders have failed us.
Christianity EtcRe: Bishop Oyedepo Acquires Yet Another N4.5b Private Jet by Shanice111: 3:17pm On Apr 08, 2011
The median age in Nigeria is 17. We have 75% of our population below 21 check indexmundi.com. We have one of the highest rates of unemployment in the world. The poverty statistics is alarming. Then I wonder why do we keep donating our 'widow's mite" in Church? The promise of prosperity, its the ultimate gamble, if you "sow" you will reap more. So we forsake our families, neighbors and give our all to god so that he can increase our wealth! For some people this works for the majority it doesn't, others take to corruption, stealing and pay tithes from it. I am not a saint but a Christian and I know, Christianity is a struggle but God commands us to LOVE one another. We cannot continue to be ignorant and keep giving monies to institutions that are not accountable. I will never attend a Church whose mission is to drain my purse whilst leaving the congregation to wallow in abject poverty. Please can this hypocrisy practiced by Nigerians stop already!

When the missionaries ran schools "poor" kids like my dad had access to quality education, now mission schools are for rich kids? The black man and his unbelievable greed! I read my Bible, I want to be just like Christ so I pledge to impact my generation by helping all around me. If we cannot LOVE then we cannot serve God. What happened to the gospel of the love of money been the fruit of all evil? No we just want to preach the one of "He became poor so we can be reach". What about the Apostles, Paul trekking from place to place preaching, Moses, Peter? Imprisonment, jails, death? Someone said Jesus wore expensive clothes that why they fought for it, how ignorant are we. The son of a carpenter? really? you think He was that rich ehn,

Finally, God hasn't called us to poverty but He wants us to LOVE! To show LOVE you must be willing to sacrifice. That is, share what you have with the people who have less. When I was hungry, He gave me to eat? All this quest for "personal prosperity" will lead us no where. We want to enjoy this life, like there is no heaven? Share and share, LOVE all of God's children even those from other faiths. We are all God's creation. I pray we will become more knowledgeable in the things of God and one day resist lazy people who use their oratory prowess to milk us dry in the name of God Amen.

Dis Naija man and his insecurities. As a very successful woman who built a business from scratch and is worth some valuable hard earned cash let me stress that your ex did not love you and vice versa. Maybe you were not in her class. I am engaged to an extremely successful young Nigerian who is not intimidated by me and our se.x is mind blowing. Let me stress mind blowing! We have done it everywhere even in my boardroom. So all the talk about successful career women not having time for se.x is well a silly lie or excuse if we dont find you desirable. We bang and when we do its explosive. Atleast we need to take out work tension somehow?
Goodluck with your wife am sure you guys are good together!lol grin. The banker lady is now fucking her Managing Director winks grin
