As incidents of child trafficking continue to rage in Abia State, the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it recently rescued over 80 pregnant girls from child traffickers in the state. Disclosing this at Umuahia during a courtesy call on the Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, the new commandant of the NSCDC, Abia State command, Dr Benito Eze, said they would not relent until the illegal and inhuman trade was stamped out from the state. It could be recalled that a particular woman who uses her maternity as “baby factory” where pregnant teenagers are kept till they were delivered of their babies, who are allegedly either given out on illegal adoption or out right sale ,have had her maternity raided and the girls rescued. But the public is said to be worried that the same woman who had been variously said to have escaped arrest soon returns to her base and carries out her illegal trade only to be raided again and her victims rescued and she escaped as usual. http://leadership.ng/news/450919/abia-command-of-nscdc-rescues-80-pregnant-girls-from-child-traffickers

Former President Goodluck Jonathan awarded 72 licences for Radio broadcasting to his political associates and friends few weeks before the end of his administration using irregular procedures and documentation. Findings by Daily Trust on the allocations list showed that Jonathan’s friends and key members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) such as Chief Bode George, Ibadan-born industrialist, and chairman of the finance committee of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Otunba Funso Lawal, an oil mogul and a friend to the former president, Chief Emeka Offor, among others were among the beneficiaries. Others are former National Chairman of the PDP Chief Barnabas Gemade, national coordinator of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) Patrick Ubah as well as some former ministers Olajumoke Akinjide and Labaran Maku among others. Some of the irregularities discovered by Daily Trust in the allocation process include the politicians use of companies not registered to run as broadcasting companies to acquire the licenses. This was against the procedure for obtaining a broadcast licence as stipulated by the National Broadcasting Commission Act No. 38 of 1992 (as amended). Checks at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) show that Bod- Gee Ventures Nigeria Limited, the company used by Bode George is into trading, supply and distribution or commission agents, while Bavis Investment Limited owned by Gemade is an investment and holding company. The company of the former minister of states Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Mrs Jumoke Akinjide got the broadcasting license with a company called Newman Investment Company Limited, registered in 1991 to carry on business of manufacturer, general contracts, sales and industrialist. Former Chairman of the finance committee of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation Otunba Funso Lawal got the broadcasting license using company called Charter House Communications limited registered in April 2015. The company is a Lagos-based consulting and financial advisory services group. The TAN’s coordinator Ubah used Hero Security Services Limited to acquire the broadcasting license. The company registered initially as Hero Planet Communications Limited in 2003 but changed name to Hero Security Services Limited in 2008. Its memorandum of association did not contain broadcasting but to carry on business as a security services provider and in that capacity to provide any person, corporate or individuals with the services of guardsmen, guards dogs etc. Another license goes to Speed Concepts Nigeria Limited, the company which belonged to a close associate of the former governor of Bayelsa state, Dieprieye Solomon P Alamieyeseigha, Mr Ehigie Edobor Uzamere. He is a Niger Delta politician who was elected to the Senate in 2007. Speed Concept is registered to carry on the business of trading, marketing, sales and distribution of general goods, commission agents, manufacturer’ representatives, to buy, sell, manufacturer’s representatives and deal in all articles substances etc. Classy Communication Network Ltd belongs to Head of Civil Service of the federation and family, Mr Danladi Irmiya Kifasi. He registered the company in 2005 to carry on business as communications, telecommunications company and information technology services GSM agents and services. Salama Radio & Media is religious based station with some prominent northern Christians as promoters. However, section 10 of the NBC Act disqualifies religious organisations and political parties from the grant of a broadcast license. The key among promoters of the Salama Radio are Pastor Nuhu Kure Emmanuel of Throne Room Church, Kafanchan, Kaduna state. Directors in the Salama company include the former minister of information Mr Labaran Maku, former Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Martin Agwai, former Director General of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, John Akanya, and former commandant of the Nigerian Defense Academy, Air Vice Marshal John Odey and Mrs Kure Martha. Petals Media Limited is founded by Peter Yinka Odumakin, spokesperson of Afenifere. His company also has no mention of broadcasting in its memorandum of association. When contacted yesterday on why NBC issued licences to companies with no broadcasting in their memorandum of association and some others with affiliations to religion as well to many companies in Abuja and Lagos where media houses are already saturated, the NBC’s director general Mr Emeka Mba simply said all that are not true. In his response to text message sent to him by our reporter, Mba said: “That my friend is not true.” But he didn’t comment further. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/index.php/top-stories/57847-jonathan-awarded-72-radio-licenses-in-last-minute-allocation |

A staff of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, Mohammed Khalid Yakubu, who has been in the services of the hotel for ten years now, has lost his job for openly showing his support for the President-elect, Gen. Mohammed Buhari. Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abuja on Wednesday, Yakubu alleged that his immediate boss, the head of housekeeping department, Mr. Paul Agiopu conspired with the general manager, Mr Etienne Gailliez, a national of Holland, to terminate his ten-year employment with Transcorp Hilton Hotel on February 10, 2015. The sacked staff said on that fateful day, Agiopu and Gailliez told him that Transcorp Hilton belonged to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and not the All Progressives Congress (APC), and as such, he should go and meet Buhari and APC to give a job. “On 10th of February, 2015, I was at Transcorp Hilton where I had worked for ten years until now. On that day, I went up to my office, Housekeeping department, on the fourth floor. When I knocked on the door, it was the general manager, Mr Etienne Gailliez who opened the door; behind him was my boss, Mr Paul Agiopu who surprisingly called me by my name Khalid, instead of the usual APC because of my support for Buhari, which we usually joked about. “I asked him why he called me by Khalid instead of the usual APC. It was at that point that the general manager, Mr Etienne Gailliez told me point blank that Transcorp Hilton belonged to the PDP and not the APC, and that I should go and meet Buhari and APC to give me job. And within 10 minutes, while I was still taking the conversation as a joke, the director of Human Resources, Omorinsola Sofola was ready with my letter of termination. This is an injustice,” Yakubu cried. He further called on the National Human Rights Commission, the APC and other relevant agencies to come to his aid, as his source of livelihood has been wrongfully taken away from him. “The letter of termination which was signed by Omorinsola Sofola reads, “We regret to inform you that your services with the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja are no longer required, effective today, 10th February 2015. “By copy of this letter, and upon successful clearance from respective departments concerned, the Director of Finance is to pay you your one month basic salary in lieu of notice. “We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.” Reacting to the allegation, the communication/public relations officer of the hotel, Mr Shola Adeyemo said the affected staff was relieved of his job based on his unethical conduct, adding that the issue had no political undertone. “We are an international hospitality organisation committed to standard practices. we are not partisan and thus, expect our employees to conduct themselves with decorum towards customers. And if any staff member falls short of these standards, there are, of course, penalties. Staff members are free to associate and join political parties of their choice, but they should not allow that affect their job. And in the case of Yakubu, he was not dismissed, his services are just required anymore,” Mr Adeyemo added. http://leadership.ng/news/429719/transcorp-hilton-staff-loses-job-for-supporting-buhari-2 |
The governor of Anambra State, Willy Obiano, has appealed to the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to help address the problems affecting the South East, and to appoint its people into key positions regardless of their political affiliations. Mr. Obiano said the region will support the government of Mr. Buhari, despite the outcome of the March 28 election which saw him and his All Progressives Congress, APC, losing in the South East. Mr. Obiano made the appeal Friday when he visited Mr. Buhari at his residence in Abuja. The governor said he believed Mr. Buhari would not limit his search to APC members whenever he gives out appointments. “I suspect that the President is not going to give appointment to only people from his party because everybody would support him and so he has to consider people from the other parties so that we can all embrace the change,” he said after a brief meeting with Mr. Buhari. The governor said he had pleaded for the consideration of people from Anambra state and the South East in general when the president-elect settles down to make appointments. “We also pleaded in the area of appointment for the people of Anambra and of course for people from the south East be it Ministerial, Ambassadorial and what have you,” he said. The Anambra governor said he congratulated Mr. Buhari on his victory. “Well, I came to congratulate His excellency, the President – elect, on his victory and I am also here to reassure him that Anambra and the south East would support him. “I also pleaded with him on some pressing problem that are of importance to the south east like the second Niger bridge and some of the federal roads,” he said. Mr. Obiano said like Mr. Buhari, he believes in change. He said his government has brought “change” to the security structure in Anambra state. “I will always support things that would bring change to improve the well-being of Ndi Anambra and Nigeria as a whole,” he said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/181959-help-igbos-dont-look-at-party-anambra-governor-begs-buhari.html |
The Members of the National Assembly are TOO GREEDY! Imagine them Proposing a law to give them Full immunity and life time pension after just 4 years of work ( 6 months in the case of Patricia Ete) when thousands of aged people are roaming the street crying for their unpaid pensions after given their life time (better years) to the service of this country. |
A former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, is expected to appear before anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Thursday. PREMIUM TIMES learnt Tuesday that he has been summoned by the Commission and is expected to report at the agency’s Abuja head office to respond to questions bordering on allegations of “misappropriation, embezzlement of funds and abuse of office while he was governor”. Multiple sources at the anti-graft agency told this newspaper that should Mr. Sheriff fail to show up as directed, he would be declared wanted and then arrested. Our sources said detectives were already on his trail and watching his movement to prevent him from fleeing. Although the specific allegations against the former governor is unclear at this time, this newspaper gathered that the investigation is related with allegations that parts of the N300billion his administration received from the Federation Account between 2003 and 2011 may not have been judiciously spent. The investigation began in 2012 and had been ongoing ever since, our sources said. Mr. Sheriff ruled Borno State on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party [ANPP]. Before then, he was senator between 1999 and 2003 on the ticket of the same party. It remains unclear why Mr. Sheriff is being invited by the anti-graft agency at the tail end of an administration formed by his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party, which he joined only last year. The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, could not be reached to comment for this story. He did not answer or return calls. He also did not respond to a text message seeking comment. Mr. Sheriff too could not be reached. His known mobile telephone was switched off for most of Tuesday and Wednesday. Multiple calls to his spokesperson, Inuwa Bwala, failed to connect. The former governor, who has since fallen out with his successor, Kashim Shetttima, dumped the All Progressives Congress, which he helped formed in 2013. Before leaving the APC, Mr. Sheriff clashed repeatedly with some leaders of the opposition party, including a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, who he accused of harbouring dictatorial tendencies. On one occasion, Mr. Sheriff had a shouting match with Mr. Tinubu at a meeting. . Mr. Sheriff told journalists after meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan last year that his defection to the PDP was in Nigeria’s interest. Apparently because of his romance with the ruling party, the PDP Federal Government rebuffed calls for his arrest and prosecution over his alleged link with Boko Haram. Mr. Sheriff, alongside a former Chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika, and an unnamed Central Bank of Nigeria official, was named by an Australian hostage negotiator, Stephen Davies, as sponsors of the dreaded terrorist group. Messrs Sheriff and Ihejirika strongly denied the allegations, and Mr. Davies has so far failed to provide evidence of their culpability. In September 2014, despite the allegation against Mr. Sheriff, which the State Security Service claimed it was investigating at the time, the former Borno governor was in President Jonathan’s company during an official visit to Chadian President, Idris Deby, to discuss how to combat insurgency in Nigeria. The opposition APC and some civil society organisations slammed the president for hobnobbing with the ex-governor. But in defence, the president, through his media adviser, Reuben Abati, accused the opposition and other critics of creating false impression that Mr. Sheriff was part of the president’s official delegation to Chad. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/181873-exclusive-efcc-goes-after-ex-gov-modu-sheriff-over-n300-billion-borno-funds-set-to-detain-him-thursday.html |

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/181313-adamawa-pdp-candidate-nuhu-ribadu-concedes-defeat-releases-concession-statement.htmlith final result in the Adamawa state governorship election yet to be declared, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election has conceded defeat. Below is his concession address to the people of Adamawa state. Mr. Ribadu, a globally respected anti-corruption activist, ran a difficult race with leading members of his own party covertly and openly sabotaging his effort to be governor. Some of them, including ex-Senator Jonathan Zwingina, with which he travelled round the state canvassing votes, abandoned him and defected to the All Progressives Congress few days to the election. Mr. Ribadu was the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2011 presidential election. He was the pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Read the speech below. “My dear people of Adamawa State, “I greet you in the best form of greetings. “I had dreamt of coming back home to lead our dear state to greater strides after years of underdevelopment. I started this journey in August last year and successfully got the mandate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to fly its flag for the April 11 gubernatorial election. I came into this race knowing fully well that political contests are two-way traffics – one either wins or loses. As a man of faith, I was also aware that leadership responsibility is a product of God’s anointment. “In the course of this journey, I have seen genuine support and encouragement from the people of Adamawa state. Several individuals from Adamawa and beyond contributed generously to keep the campaign going and many others devoted their time, energy and intellect to see to the success of this project. I sincerely appreciate this belief in my person and my ambition. “The support I got from my party’s leadership and individual members from President Goodluck Jonathan down to the party agents in our polling units was overwhelming and gratifying. The party leader in the state, Barrister Bala James Nggilari and the state party chairman, Chief Joel Madaki led their lieutenants in making this journey memorable. “I came into this race with lofty dreams and clear vision for our dear state, but the voice of the majority has not given me this chance. I take this in good faith. “I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the winner and pray that at the end of it all our dear state will witness the needed progress and development it so much desires. “God bless Adamawa State “God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria “Nuhu Ribadu, Yola” |
