Politics › EFCC Declares Fayose’s Associate, Abiodun Agbele Wanted Over Alleged N2B Loot by sharpden(op):
NIGERIA'S anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has declared Governor Ayodele Fayose’s associate, Abiodun Agbele wanted over a N2 Billion he allegedly deposited into the governor’s account.

According to the EFCC, Agbele received N1, 219,490,000 from Obanikoro on behalf of Fayose and was flown to the Akure Airport from where it was conveyed to Zenith Bank.

Five Zenith Bank deposit slips show that Agbele made deposits of over N900 million into his personal accounts and that of Fayose.

On June 26, 2014, Agbele made a deposit of N137 million into a Zenith Bank account with account number 1003126654 belonging to Ayodele Fayose with teller number 0556814.

On June 17, 2014, Agbele also made a deposit of N100 million into account number 1010170969 belonging to Spotless Investment Limited, a company owned by Fayose and his wife, Feyisetan.

On June 18, 2014, Agbele made another deposit of N219,490,000 into the account of De Privateer Limited with account number 1013835889. The company allegedly belongs to Agbele.

On June 19, 2014, he also made a deposit of N300 million into the same account while a third deposit of N200 million was made into the same account on June 23, 2014.

The EFCC said: “Agbele is an associate of Fayose. We are currently looking for him because he has a lot of explanations to make. He held some of the money in trust for Fayose.”

In his reaction, governor Fayose admitted that Agbele was a trusted friend who paid money into his accounts.

Sports › Messi Quits International Football After Copa America loss by sharpden(op): 7:06am On Jun 27, 2016
ARGENTINA'S Lionel Messi says he is retiring from international football after losing the Copa America final against Chile.

“The national team is over for me. The decision is already made. That’s it,” Messi told Argentine broadcaster, TyC Sports.

The 29-year-old was making his 112th appearance for Argentina since making his debut in 2005.

After the match finished 0-0 in 120 minutes, Chile won 4-2 on penalties for their second consecutive Copa title.

Messi has not won a major international honour apart from a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Argentina were beaten 1-0 in the 2014 World Cup final by Germany and he has now lost three Copa America finals (2007, 2015, 2016).

Messi’s penalty miss was Argentina’s first attempt in the shootout, ballooned over the bar after Sergio Romero had denied Chile’s Arturo Vidal.

Lucas Biglia also missed from 12 yards, with Chilean substitute Francisco Silva scoring the decisive spot-kick.

ALI Sheriff faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has  suspended the Edo State Executive Committee of the party, saying the suspension is in line with the provisions of section 31 (2) (e) of the PDP constitution.

The faction said in a statement on Saturday signed by Mr. Sheriff and the National Secretary of his faction, Adewale Oladipo, that the suspension was part of the decision taken at its NWC meeting on June 21.

It said the decision followed various petitions alleging irregularities at the last state congresses that was meant to elect state executive committee for the chapter.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) decided to suspend the Committee instead of outright dissolution to enable it investigate the allegations and come out with a fair and just decision,” the statement said.

The faction said the NWC has also appointed a caretaker committee to manage the affairs of Edo State PDP for the constitutional stipulated period of three months.

The committee, it said, has Ebenezer Alabi as chairman and Zealiwe Edmund as secretary. Other members are Ehimekpen Okharedia, Melody Osagie, Blessing Agbabaku, Negerese Berry, Daniel Asekhame and Dan Omozokpai.

Edo chapter reacts

In a swift response, the Edo state chapter of the PDP said Mr. Sheriff has no power to sack its executive committee.

In a statement by its chairman, Dan Orbih, the state chapter said Mr. Sheriff’s action has shown that he was not a true member of the PDP.

“By his pronouncements and his actions, he has shown the whole world that he is not a true member of PDP. He is on a mission designed by the party in government that is being executed by him,” he said.

He also said Mr. Sheriff was never elected as the chairman of the PDP, rather, he was appointed by the National Executive Committee. He said Mr. Sheriff should stop arrogating powers that he doesn’t possess to himself.

“Hundred Sheriffs cannot dissolve the Edo exco as he is no longer the acting chairman of the party.

“The only body that is constitutionally empowered by the party to carry out the functions of the national executives of the party today is that of the Makarfi-led national executive which by law is the national executive that is in place,” he said.

Mr. Orbih said the NEC approved the appointment of Mr. Sheriff as acting chairman for a period of three months, which he said had elapsed after the national convention of the party which held on May 11, 2016.

“So, the convention with its overwhelming power, dissolved the executive national organ of the party and appointed a caretaker committee that will oversee the affairs of the party pending when we hold the next national convention to elect the officials.

“So, Sheriff is merely exercising his foul mouth to make illegal pronouncements that can never be obeyed by any person in our party.

“I advise him to steer clear from Edo PDP and face his political integration in Borno where since he left office as governor has been a hotbed of political crisis,” he said.

Politics › Charles Okah Has Not Escaped – Prisons service by sharpden(op): 3:44pm On Jun 25, 2016
THE Nigerian Prisons Service on Saturday said the suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombings in Abuja, Charles Okah, has not escaped from Kuje Prison in Abuja, where he is being kept.

But the prisons authorities said there was a jail break attempt on Friday night.

News had filtered out on Saturday morning that Okah had scaled the Kuje Prison fence alongside some other prisoners and escaped.

But the spokesman of the NPS, Francis Enobore, confirming to Premium Times on Saturday: “He is there (Kuje prison) hale and hearty.

“The comptroller of prisons in charge of the FCT was there less than 30 minutes ago and he saw him there. I spoke to the controller.”

Enobore, however, confirmed a jail break at the prison on Friday night.

He said: “Yes there was an incident yesterday, but Henry Okah was not involved.

“The Comptroller of Prisons has ordered an investigation and that is going on.

“We want to know if anybody escaped and if yes, what are their identities.

Politics › Buratai, Owns Foreign assets - Nigerian Army by sharpden(op): 3:36pm On Jun 25, 2016
http://.com/buratai-owns-foreign-assets-nigerian-army/

NIGERIAN Army has admitted that its chief, Tukur Buratai, owns assets in Dubai, United Araba Emirate.

The army however described as “false and misleading” a report that Mr. Buratai, and his wives, jointly became owners of the properties following a certain “single” transaction.

The army said the two Dubai properties had been officially declared when Mr. Buratai was appointed Nigeria’s top army officer.

“It is a fact that the Buratai family have two properties in Dubai that were paid for instalmentally through personal savings three years ago,” the army said in a statement on Fridayday. “This, along with other personal assets have consistently been declared by General Buratai in his Assets Declaration Form as Commander Multinational Joint Task Force Commander and as Chief of Army Staff”.

According to the statement issued by the acting director army public relations, Sani Usman, Mr. Buratai, has never owned any bank account with Skye Bank, as mentioned in the report, and neither was he ever involved in any contract scam.

The Full Statement Reads:

“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to another round of campaign of calumny against the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai and his family by some unscrupulous elements as contained in Sahara Reporters story titled “Revealed: Buhari’s Chief Of Army Staff, General Buratai, Wives Own Dubai Property”, alleging that Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Tukur Buratai, and his two wives are joint owners of a Dubai property that was paid for in one transaction posted on the website, this evening.

“It is important to know that these baseless allegations were not new.  In March this year, some groups of individuals under the aegis of “Concerned Citizens”, tried same smear campaign to their disappointment, it could not fly, because it is not true.

“You  will recall early this week, there was similar campaign of calumny by yet another online news medium, The Cable, in which among other things, it alleged that wounded in action Nigerian Army personnel were abandoned by the Army, government and the nation which is not true.

“Therefore, the latest round of smear campaign by Sahara Reporters is one of the series of campaigns of calumny by these faceless individuals to malign the Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army. Yet, typical of blackmailers and mischief makers despite failures, they did not give up, hence they now found a willing accomplice reputed for muckraking like the Sahara Reporters. The online news medium this evening uploaded another campaign of calumny allegedly based on a petition by obviously fake and non-existent group it described as “Concerned Soldiers and Officers from the North East”.

“The allegations contained in the Sahara Reporters write up are baseless and not correct. It is a fact that the Buratai family have two properties in Dubai that were paid for instalmentally through personal savings three years ago. This, along with other personal assets have consistently been declared by General Buratai in his Assets Declaration Form as Commander Multinational Joint Task Force Commander and as Chief of Army Staff.

“It is pertinent to state that the Chief of Army Staff does not have any account with Skye Bank as alleged, let alone making deposits in the imaginary bank account to the tune of the amount stated in the write up. Similarly, he has not been involved in any form of shady or dishonest transaction, not to talk of “contract scam”.

“In addition, General Buratai was never near either Defence Headquarters or Army Headquarters in 2013.  It is pertinent to also note that he was never a Director of procurement in Army Headquarters as alleged. As a matter of fact, the Nigerian Army never had a Directorate of Procurement till when he established one last year when he became Chief of Army Staff.

“In a bid to rubbish the hard earned reputation and good name of the Chief of Army Staff, these blackmailers will stop at nothing hence all these kinds of mudslinging.

“It is really worrisome that some people could condescend so low to fabricate baseless allegation against the Chief of Army Staff for reasons that could best be described as mischievous. It is equally worrisome that Sahara Reporters could lend space for this obvious mischief. We really do not believe that it is because the price is right.

“Consequently, the public and indeed all well-meaning persons should disregard this round of campaign of calumny against the Chief of Army Staff and similar ones because they are baseless and unfounded.

“For the unscrupulous elements and their cohorts, these campaigns would prod the Nigerian Army and indeed the Chief of Army Staff to continue to serve the nation diligently and with utmost zeal”.

Politics › Vandalism: Buhari Begs Militants, Says “they Use Hi-tech weapons” by sharpden(op): 11:06pm On Jun 24, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to help him pacify rampaging militants in the oil-rich Niger Delta.

Lamenting the effect of attacks on oil installations, the president said the country does not need such a distraction at this point in time.

He said the militants were in possession of sophisticated equipment, adding that unlike the Boko Haram sect which has one faction, the militants are in so many groups, suggesting that government has been having challenges relating with them.

Buhari was speaking on Friday, at the breaking of fast dinner with the APC leadership at the presidential villa in Abuja.

“I honestly don’t know how many factions the militants are in the Niger Delta compared to the north-east where you have the Boko Haram,” he said.

“The technology being deployed by the militants to destroy oil installations is high-tech, the way they can go on high sea and international waters and target oil installations is a national problem. It is affecting development.

“No insurance company will want to insure installations that will end up being blown up and no banks will want to finance such installations.

“Those of you who have friends among the leadership or even the militants themselves should plead with them in the name of God ‎Almighty to take it easy.

“We are in a very difficult time, so we have to organise ourselves. Anybody that says he has any other country than Nigeria should go out and see.”

He expressed delight that the primary election in Edo state was successful, and said close attention would be paid to Ondo state, which is next in line.

“The successful conduct of APC primaries in Edo state gave me a new hope,” he said.

“We are going to watch Ondo very closely, we have to ensure that the vote of the people count.”

John Oyegun, national chairman of the party, said the APC was pleased with the achievements of the president so far.

Oyegun, who acknowledged that Nigeria was passing through a difficult time, said “change does not come cheap or easily”.

“Things must change. Those things don’t come easily. Nigeria is clearly a difficult nation to govern,’’ he said.

Those at the event were former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; Ghali Na’aba, former speaker of the house of representatives; Segun Oni, the party’s deputy national chairman (south), and Timipre Sylva, former Bayelsa state governor.

Politics › Chibok Girl, Amina Ali Nkeki 'disappears' After Rescue From Boko Haram by sharpden(op):
FAMILY members of a Nigerian school girl who was abducted by Boko Haram and then escaped are demanding information from the country’s government over her whereabouts according to a report by The Guardian, UK.

Amina Ali Nkeki was one of the 219 girls kidnapped from Chibok, Nigeria, in 2014 that led to international outrage and the #BringBackOurGirls campaign. Her rescue last month drew international headlines. The demand was issued in a statement released Wednesday, marking the 800th day since the girls were taken.

Ali was found by Nigerian soldiers on May 17 as she wandered with her 4-month-old baby and the infant’s father, a Boko Haram fighter, through the Sambisa Forest, where the extremist Islamic group is based. The fighter was killed and Ali was flown to Abuja for a meeting with President Muhammad Buhari, but she has not been seen since.

“Even this morning people came to my house asking if I had been able to find out her whereabouts. It’s outrageous. Some people are crying. We don’t understand why the government wants to keep her family away,” Yakubu Nkeki, an uncle of Amina Ali Nkeki, told The Guardian.

The founders of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, Aisha Yesufu and Oby Ezekwesili, released a statement saying they have a “number of concerns” about Ali since the government has held her for more than a month in what was called her “restoration process.”

Politics › Halliburton: President Buhari's Wife, Aisha Buhari, Threatens To Sue Fayose by sharpden(op): 6:08pm On Jun 23, 2016
THE Wife of Nigeria's President, Aisha Buhari on Wednesday demanded a full retraction of a widely-circulated material distributed by Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, in which he claimed to have uncovered how Mrs. Buhari was allegedly mentioned as having transferred funds to a convicted former U.S. lawmaker, Williams Jefferson.

In a warning letter dispatched through her legal representatives,  Mrs. Buhari said Mr. Fayose’s action was directly responsible for the publication of the “very wild and unfounded” allegations in the media.

Premium Times claiming to be in. Possession of a copy of the letter, said the letter was sent to Mr. Fayose via courier on Wednesday.

Through the letter, titled: “Demand for unqualified retraction of the false statement published by you in various media on the 20th of June, 2016, and subsequent dates regarding our client, Her Excellency, Mrs. Aisha Buhari the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,”  the president’s wife gave Mr. Fayose five working days to retract the statement or face legal action.

“Our client has referred to us statement made by you and published on the 20th of June, 2016 (and other subsequent days) concerning and pertaining to her person for necessary action.

“The said statement which was caused by you and your agents to be widely circulated and published in various media platforms: print, electronic and online on 20th of June, 2016, contains very wild, unfounded and false allegations and imputations against the person of our client.

“Specifically, in the said statement credited to you and signed by your Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, you, inter alia, false stated as follows:
“”Even the president cannot claim to be an angel. The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal (sic). When that American, Jeferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialise the judgement for people to see and read,” Ismaila Alasa and Mary Ekpene, who signed the letter on behalf of the law firm, said.

“Take notice that unless you and your agents meet our humble demands within 5 (five) working days of the receipt of this letter, we shall take all necessary steps within the contemplation of the law to seek redress for our client.”

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, could not immediately confirm or deny if Mary Ekpere & Co. is indeed the solicitors to Mr. Buhari.

Mr. Fayose had on Monday evening distributed a statement which contained excerpts of court documents sourced from the United States Department of Justice Website.

In the statement, Mr. Fayose said Mrs. Buhari was an accomplice in the bribery scandal that landed Mr. Jefferson in jail, saying he added the link as a proof.

Although an Aisha Buhari was mentioned in the case files, those who investigated the matter have, however, said that Aisha Buhari is an impostor and not the wife of Mr. Buhari.

Meanwhile,  Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has challenged Nigeria’s First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, to travel to the United States of America to prove her innocence in the Halliburton scam.

Fayose said this on Wednesday in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, insinuating that Hajia Buhari has been avoiding travelling to the US in order to evade arrest.

Though several sources had said she was not the one, Fayose insisted that Hajia Buhari had more to reveal than she had agreed to.

He said that was why she had refused to travel with her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, on the three occasions he had visited the US since assuming power.

He also said rather than attend a conference to which she was invited, Hajia Buhari sent Toyin, the wife of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

Fayose said in the statement by Adelusi on Wednesday that if the President’s wife was certain she was not the one indicted in the Halliburton scandal, she should visit the United States of America to convince Nigerians.

He said: “It is on record that the President has visited USA three times and his wife did not travel with him. Equally, she ought to have visited USA last year September to chair a United Nations programme but she sent wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki to represent her.”

Politics › Lere Olayinka Lambasts Falana Over Fayose's Frozen account by sharpden(op): 2:12pm On Jun 23, 2016
THE Special Assistant on Public Communications and new media to Ekiti State Governor special, Lere Olayinka, has described Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, as a mischievous lawyer, who is always out to defend any position that satisfies his “selfish desire”.

“Falana is only deceiving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Governor Ayodele Fayose’s matter because of his ambition to contest the Ekiti State Governorship election in 2018, thinking that he can achieve what he used the EFCC to achieve against Governor Fayose in 2006 ten years after,” Mr. Olayinka said.

Mr. Olayinka, who reacted to Gov. Falana’s position supporting the EFCC’s freezing of Mr. Fayose’s bank account, said it was shameful that a lawyer of Mr. Falana’s standing could say that the commission acted lawfully.

“Even though this comment coming from Femi Falana ought to have been ignored like we have always done because his hypocrisy has become so legendary that he should no longer be taken seriously by sane minds,  it was shameful that Falana, a Senior Associate Nigeria (SAN) could say that EFCC can freeze Nigerians bank accounts and obtain a court order later even when Section 34 of the EFCC Act provided that a court order must be obtained (ex-parte) and made available to the bank manager before a bank account can be frozen.”

The governor’s spokesperson said further; “Court Order is a condition precedent before a bank account can be frozen and Section 34 of the EFCC Act is very clear on this. It is unambiguous. It presupposes that EFCC cannot freeze the bank account of any Nigerian, no matter the status without first obtaining a court order and making same available to the bank manager.

“This position was also expressed by Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday when he ordered the EFCC to pay N12.5 million damages to the son of former Governor Murtala Nyako, Senator Abdulaziz Nyako for unlawful freezing of his account and illegal detention.

“It is therefore strange that a SAN could tell Nigerians that EFCC can carry out an action first and obtain court order to justify the action later.

“If I may ask, was Falana called to the Bar before he attended Law School and passed his Call-To-Bar Exams? Was Falana’s LLB Certificate given to him before he got admission to the University?  Was Falana’s BL Certificate issued to him before he attended the Law School?  Was Falana’s Birth Certificate issued before he was born? Was Falana’s Marriage Certificate issued before he got married? Has Falana ever travelled to UK or USA and obtained Visa later? Can I, Lere Olayinka, because I can now quote some laws begin to practice as a lawyer and go to University to study law later?

“Obviously, opinions of lawyers like Femi Falana are better left in the trash cans and Nigerians should begin to thank God that he was not made Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

“It is also important to tell Falana to seek the face of the Lord for forgiveness of his sins against Ekiti and Governor Fayose in particular, because it appears God deliberately frustrated his bid to
be appointed Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice because of what he would have used the position for.

“For instance, over ten Ekiti indigenes were murdered during the APC government of Dr Kayode Fayemi, Falana kept silent. He also kept silent when the future of Ekiti State was being mortgaged to frivolous loans and deductions from workers salary were not being remitted. It also made no meaning to Falana that democratically elected local government chairmen and councillors were sacked and council election was not conducted throughout the four years of APC government in Ekiti
State.

“Instead of hiding under human rights activism to perpetrate evil against Ekiti and its people as he has always done, Falana should be bold enough to declare his governorship ambition, which is not hidden and let’s see how far he can go this time around.

“Like we have maintained, this is 2016 and 2006 that Falana and his criminal collaborators used EFCC to remove governors, Governor Fayose whose impeachment was later declared illegal by the Supreme Court.”

Politics › Boko Haram: After Arresting Ihejirika, DSS May Go After Pdp's Sheriff by sharpden(op): 9:25am On Jun 23, 2016
THE Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Azubuike Ihejirika, a former chief of army staff.

The secret police picked Ihejirika from his Maitama, Abuja residence, late Tuesday.

He is reportedly being investigated over his alleged sponsorship of agitators of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), according to security sources.

Ihejirika is not the first person that the secret police would arrest over alleged ties to Biafra agitators.

In March, Victor Umeh, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), spent about 24 hours in DSS custody over suspicion of sponsoring IPOB.

Unlike Umeh, Ihejirika is also said to be undergoing investigation for his alleged role in the $2.1 billion arms purchase probe involving Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser.

The factional PDP Chairman and former governor of Borno State Ali Modu Sheriff is also on the DSS Watch list may also be picked soon.

Recall sometimes in September 2014, an Australian negotiator, Stephen Davies, who granted an interview to VOA, Arise Television and Sahara TV, alleged that former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff (SAS) and former Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), General Ihejirika, were sponsors of Boko Haram.

Davies said he spoke to Boko Haram field commanders, who confirmed it to him.

Although Sheriff and Ihejirika have severally denied their involvement, Dr Stephen Davis insisted that the former Borno governor on whose reign Boko Haram started, Modu Sheriff and former Chief of Army Staff, General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika were indeed Boko Haram sponsors.

Nasir El-Rufai, now Governor of Kaduna State had also revealed on August 28, that Modu Sheriff, Gen. Ihejirika are Boko Haram sponsors.

On why Sheriff was not immediately arrested when it became evident he was behind the deadly sect group, Davies disclosed that Mr. Sheriff always had the best military protection in Nigeria’s violence-plagued northeast, a protection he claimed the ex-governor enjoyed after he left office due to a strong relationship he had had with then President, Goodluck Jonathan.

Although Modu Sheriff has reacted to Dr Davis’ accusation as he reportedly threatened to travel to Australia to sue his accuser, he never did till date.

Speaking further, Dr Davis said at that time he was unsure of the extent of information before President Goodluck Jonathan on whether he was aware of the insurgents’ sponsors and their specific roles.

He added that Mr. Jonathan had been weakened by lack of military loyalty and a history of security negligence. He gave the example of repeated attempts to bring the growth of Al Qa’eda associated cells to the attention of NSA’s since 2006 only to have them dismiss such reports as baseless.

“By the time Goodluck Jonathan became president Boko Haram had become a potent weapon with a command structure embedded in 16 northern states fanned by support from corrupt politicians.”

He further gave the example of a former National Security Adviser, Aliyu Gusau, whom he accused of basically leaving Mr. Jonathan to carry his can without taking any responsibility for his work.

Mr. Gusau has since been arrested and detained by the present leadership of Muhammadu Buhari for his involvement in squandering billions of naira meant to execute the war on Boko Haram. By implication, Gusau is also a major sponsor of the insurgency in the northeast.

The Australian negotiator also revealed then that his years working with Nigerian presidents on matters of terrorism had shown that, even when some prominent individuals are known to be involved in criminality, the presidents are simply too afraid to take them on.

Dr. Davis touched on several aspects of Boko Haram activities, showing that he was quite knowledgeable about the sect’s actions.

He told SaharaReporters back then that Boko Haram runs about six major camps in the northeast and neighboring countries, adding that 700 fighters inhabited each camp. In addition there are a range of smaller camps within Borno State, which are often temporary and to which kidnapped girls are taken to be used by the insurgents.

The Australian revealed that earlier in the year 2014 Boko Haram was a loose coalition of three Islamist militant groups that worked with one another, claiming that, within four months, the sects had merged into one single entity, becoming more cohesive, strategically effective and powerful.

“They are now linking with other terrorist group in the region and will soon be very difficult to dismantle. If these political sponsors think they can turn these groups off after the 2015 elections they are going to be surprised to find it is out of their control,” Mr. Stephen Davies warned.

On why he had chosen to speak out publicly at that time, Dr. Davis stated that, from experience, any terrorist group that has lasted more than eight years after its formation would likely exist for another 20 or more years before it can be dismantled. It thus becomes embedded for a generation and the likelihood of dismantling it was very low.

“If we don’t do our utmost now to dismantle Boko Haram then we may not be able to do so for another generation. That is a very gloomy scenario for Nigeria.”

Dr Stephen Davis then vowed to make more revelations about Boko Haram’s sponsors, adding that he believed the sect could only be dismantled if their sponsors were exposed and prosecuted.

He also added that the former governor, Modu Sheriff should face the ultimate trial for financing the recruitment of young men to the Islamist sect.

Modu Sheriff was a two-term governor of Borno State between 2003 to 2011 and the 6-year full scale war declared by Boko Haram started under his watch in 2010, a year after its leader Mohammed Yusuf and Buji Foi, Sheriff’s right hand man were ‘extrajudicially’ killed by the police on the instructions of Sheriff. Incidentally, in a video clip, shot in April 2013 during a visit he made to Borno state, Mr. Jonathan was heard describing Mr. Sheriff, as a “friend” of Mohammed Yusuf, the man who founded and led Boko Haram for years.

Sheriff, knowing that the DSS will come after him sooner or later, carefully perfected the plan of rushing to grab the PDP chairmanship position so that he can hide from prosecution.

According to knowledgeable sources, if Sheriff had succeeded with his plans of becoming National Chairman of the main opposition political party in Nigeria, the PDP, it would be practically impossible to arrest him and put him behind bars as doing so will pinch the Buhari presidency with the international community who will see Sheriff’s persecution as attempt to silence the opposition by the ruling APC government.

But Sheriff seemed to be having none of his plans working for him following the confusion at the Wadata Plaza National Secretariat of the PDP at the moment.

Politics › Halliburton Scandal: Real Ms Aisha Buhari Deny Involvement by sharpden(op):
AISHA Buhari, the individual whose name and passport is being bandied as the bribe giver in the Haliburton Scandal has denied involvement in the matter.

In a report by The Street Journal, Ms Buhari reportedly broke her silence on her alleged involvement in the Halliburton bribery scandal.

Ms Buhari reportedly stressed that though she shares the same name with the President’s wife, Mrs Aisha Buhari, she's neither the person referred to in the bribery scandal by the Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose nor by the ex-EFCC boss, Ibrahim Lamorde.

Ms Buhari was further reportedly maintained that involving her name in the scandal for political reasons were not only malicious but wicked.

“This is like pouring water on a sleeping person. I have never done anything with Halliburton, I don’t know the colour of the company. I am not in the line of business with Halliburton, so linking me with the bribery is wicked”, Ms Buhari allegedly told the medium.

Continuing, she said, “They are desperate to cover their dirty track and link my name with the scandal that they have to first of all steal my passport. My passport was stolen early this year. And to give credibility to their story, details from the passport were used. They should come to the US, to find out If they are curious about the case.

“If somebody commits crime in the US, he or she must face trial. Have you heard I am being tried in the US? Let them stop this malicious allegation against me that they do not have proof of, I hate people who do not cross check facts before talking, they should find out in the US the kind of person I am because I belong to organisations there.

“If they think they are politician and can break the law and go free, they should realise that nobody is above the laws of a country including me,”, she disclosed.

On Monday, June 20, 2016, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose accused the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha Buhari of corrupt practices following EFCC's action on his bank account.

Politics › Sheriff Declares Edo PDP Gov Primary Illegal, Appoints New Acting Nwc members by sharpden(op): 10:27pm On Jun 21, 2016
THE Factional  National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has declared Monday’s governorship primary of the party in Edo State as illegal, dismissing it as the work of an illegal care-taker committee.

The faction of the party led by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, conducted the primary, which produced Pastor Ize-Iyamu as the candidate.

Makarfi is the chairman of the party’s caretaker committee put together by PDP governors at the convention held in Port Harcourt on May 21.

Sheriff had called off the convention but the governors disregarded his action.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sheriff urged members of the party nationwide, especially in Edo State, to disregard the primary.

A letter addressed to the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), signed by Mr. Sheriff and the National Secretary of his faction, Prof. Wale Oladipo, urged the electoral commission not to give legitimacy to what happened in Edo State.

The party said that the party would conduct a “proper primary” in the state.

In another statement, the faction said a scheduled congress in Edo State would hold between June 23rd and June 29th, with the inauguration of Congress Committee scheduled for the first of those dates.

Sheriff  warned state chairmen and officers of the party to desist from meeting or having anything to do with what he called the illegal caretaker committee, warning that anybody dealing with them is on his own.

In yet another statement, the faction announced the appointment, in an acting capacity, of some deputy national officers as members of the National Working Committee.

It said it was acting following the resignation of five members of the NWC and in accordance with the provisions of sections 39(2), 42 (2), 43 (2), 44 (2) and 47 (6) of the Constitution of the party 2012 as amended.

The newly appointed officers are:

1. Mr. Okey Nnadozie – Acting National Organizing Secretary

2. Mr. Alonge-Niyi Dennis – Acting National Youth Leader

3. Mrs. Hannatu Ullam – Acting National Women Leader

4. Barrister Bashir Maidugu – Acting National Legal Adviser.

THE summons for the appearance of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, before a court on Monday over allegations of forgery was on Tuesday pasted on the Notice Board of the National Assembly.

Saraki and Ekweremadu have been dragged to court over the forgery of the Senate’s Standing Rules.

They are to be tried alongside a former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and the Acting Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Benedict Efeturi.

The four were to initially appear in court on Tuesday but the summons could not be properly served on them.

Owing to this, the court ordered that the summons be pasted on the Notice Board of the National Assembly.

This was done on Tuesday afternoon.

Politics › Aso Rock Officials Demand $8M From Family Of Ex-customs Boss, Dikko Inde by sharpden(op): 11:43am On Jun 21, 2016
THE family members of former Comptroller General of Customs, Dikko Abdullahi Inde are in quandary over how to raise $8 million ( N2bn) demanded by certain individuals at the Aso Rock Villa to facilitate his release from the grip of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Inde whose tenure as Customs boss lapsed in 2015, was picked up last week Thursday by operatives of the EFCC.

He has been in detention since.

The former Customs helmsman is being questioned on issues bordering on criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, theft, abuse of office and living above legitimate means.

He is also alleged to have diverted over N40billion from coffers of the Customs.

The funds according to the EFCC were allegedly drawn from proceeds of the seven per cent cost of collection and one per cent comprehensive import supervision scheme.

A source within the former Customs’ boss’s family has revealed that the shady elements within the State House in Abuja, capitalizing on the anxiety of family members, are squeezing them for eight million dollars.

The source said the Villa officials pointedly told them to come up with money or watch their benefactor go to jail.
He said it was disturbing as no one in the family can afford to raise that kind of money.

“Since our brother was arrested last week, we have been under serious pressure by these unscrupulous individuals to hand them eight million dollars or he would be jailed. We have been having sleepless nights since as we do not know where we will raise that kind of money,” continuing he said it was matter for regret that their brother who served Nigeria to the best of his ability, was been treated like a criminal adding that “Our brother did not steal government money. What would he do with the N40 billion they said he took from Customs? Something is not right somewhere.

“It is even painful that this administration that he was nice to in the run up to the 2015 elections, is the same people who are treating him shabbily,” the family member added.

Politics › Ali Modu Sheriff Plans To Create Another Boko Haram In Abuja – makarfi by sharpden(op): 9:10am On Jun 18, 2016
AHMED Makarfi, The Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, of planning to recreate another Boko Haram in Abuja.

This is as the struggle over the control of the party’s secretariat by supporters of the two claimants, on Thursday, left at least one person with a broken head.

Makarfi who spoke at the end of a meeting between his committee, the Board of Trustees (BoT) and PDP governors on Thursday morning, said the party elders reviewed all that have been going on in the party since Monday.

“You are all witnesses to the thuggery that took place.Actually, those who remembered how Boko Haram was born, that is how it started. How thugs were brought into Abuja and some people forced themselves into the secretariat, in the process documents and some property belonging to be party cannot be accounted for. This cannot be without some supports from some quarters, definitely not from PDP,” he said.

He recalled that he heard Sheriff saying that he was going to go beyond Inspector General Police in order for him to gain access into the PDP secretariat, adding “We don’t know what he means beyond the IG but all of you are sensible enough to decide who is ‘beyond IG could actually mean’”.

The former Kaduna State governor disclosed that the meeting deliberated on the issue and have taken a position to stand by democracy.

He called on security agencies to maintain peace and order in the country and to bring any illegal action of politicians, not matter how highly placed, to book.

“And those elements that may be interfering in our internal affairs, whether they belong to any particular party or they do not belong to any at all, they should allow us to be, as we are not interfering in any other body’s affairs.

“We have it on record that the former Chairman, Sheriff, a day or two before he forced himself into the secretariat had a meeting with one of the governors with the party in power and then the next day this event took place, therefore creating suspicion.

“If he claimed to be chairman of PDP, what meeting could he have had with the governor? Did he get any encouragement, facilitation, any guarantee for him to go ahead and do what he did? This is for Nigerians to think on and take a position on.

“But we are confident that at the end of the day justice will be done. We are confident that all the issues before the judiciary that justice will be done.”

Former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, friday slammed a N100 million suit on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before the Federal High Court in Lagos over an alleged breached of his fundamental human rights.

This suit came at the heels of the recent raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Obanikoro’s Ikoyi, Lagos home.

In a statement by his media aide, Jonathan Eze, the former minister is demanding the sum as general damages for the alleged unlawful and unconstitutional seizure and detention of several items, properties and personal effects belonging to him and family by the EFCC on June 24, 2016.

Other applicants in the suit are: Mrs. Fati Obanikoro, Alhaja Moroophat Obanikoro, Gbolahon Obanikoro and Babajide Obanikoro.

Obanikoro in the fundamental rights enforcement suit, filed on his behalf by his lawyer, Chief Ogwu Onoja (SAN) , is also praying the court to restrain the EFCC whether by its officers, Servants, privies, assigns or agents from arresting, detaining, harassing any of the applicants or any of their relatives pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

The statement reads: “The applicants also want the court to restrain the commission from further entering their premises and an order Directing it to tender an unreserved public apology to them for the unlawful action.

“They are also asking the court to direct the respondent to release all the items, properties and personal effects seized from their premises.

” The applicants further want the court to hold that the action of the EFCC constitute a gross violation of their fundamental rights as guarantee under section 43 of the 1999 Constitution and Article 14 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

“In a 15 paragraphs affidavit attached to the suit and sworn to by Mrs. Fati Obanikoro, states that on June 14 some officials of the EFCC numbering about 20 stormed their premises situated at 10 Mojisola Onikoyi Street, by Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos and took away several items.

” She also alleged that the respondent thereafter proceeded to also search the personal house of the former Minister at 4 Layi Ajayi-Bembe road, Parkview, Ikoyi, Lagos

“She also claimed that before the alleged invasion of the premises there was no prior notice by way of letter or invitation served on any of the applicants and there was also no order of court mandating them to carry out the action.

” She listed some of the items seized by the Commission to include: building plans, cheque leaflets, company documents, car keys, phones, two company seals and six company stam

“The applicant further averred that the EFCC officials claimed that they are investigating the former Minister and two of his children but some of the properties taken away do not belong to them.

“She also insisted that unless the court issued an order compelling the commission, it will not return the seized properties.”

However, no date has been set for the hearing of the suit.
