Boy oh boy, this guy was right.

The very unequal distribution of human quality in certain group. Some group HQI (human quality index) is abysmal and the outcome that gets them is poverty, suffering and humiliation.

Few will get this.

Developing countries or generally countries seeking tourists should aim at citizens of wealthier countries. Touring foreign countries is a feature of "people wey don chop food belly full". Poor people cannot be tourists.

To ease their entry, offer these citizens visa free status so they don't have to spend on that aspect or better still save more to spend in the country. Nigeria or generally most African countries have longer routes from wealthier nations, thus costlier air tickets. There are many competitors within the African continent such as Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, etc.

Some might ask, "but these wealthier countries make it hard for us (Nigerians) to enter their countries, why should we make it easy for them?" Well, basic economics makes it so: visa free access is offered based on economic and largely population figures. The poorer a country, the weaker its passports. Humans are naturally discriminatory. You or anyone reading this will readily accept Dangote to your home before myself because you know he's richer than me. That's how visa free access works.

For that reason, Nigeria should waive visa restrictions for citizens of countries with a GDP per capita of $25K+. Citizens from these countries shouldn't have to apply for a Nigerian visa.

I already know all of these things. My question is why do ordinary Nigerians seem to LOVE the fact that the process of getting their country's visa is so gruelling? What is the thought process behind this - are they reciprocating gestures or is there another reason? Even if the average person may react emotionally, policymakers should be pragmatic and understand how the world works.

Tourists were never visiting Nigeria in the first place. The stats say it all.

One, obtaining a Nigerian visa is very hard, and from online commentary, many Nigerians LOVE IT.

Two, the infrastructure to support tourism outside Lagos and Abuja aren't plentiful.

Three, Nigerians are largely dishonest and unnecessarily aggressive.

Four, Nigerians love and support ritual killings, especially of naive women. Women are the support pillars of the tourism industry globally. A country that cannot protect its native women cannot do the same for foreign women.

Can you tell me why they'd love (from the commentary) the tough stance on the visa thingy. I mean through their eye (third worlder), it makes no sense.

I use to know a dude who came back from the US and said "Nigeria is the best". He barely escaped death in a road accident and that experience shatter that delusional thinking totally.

If you had actually read the book you would have seen his comments on Nigeria in the 60's and particularly his references to two specific Nigerian ministers. You would also see that based on his experience with these ministers he did not hold out much hope for Nigeria.

So

Nigerias problems are deep seated and rooted and they require strength of character willing to ignore short term discomfort and complaints by citizens. This was a key part of Singapores development.

You will then not fall into the easy argument of seeing Nigerias problems through the lense of your life time or experiences.

Check around you, you will see the results. When I say Nigerians, I meant like 70 to 85 per cent of Nigerians are not educated. What majority term as educated here is canny (wayo). The system itself does not encourage one being intelligent but brilliant. That's why schools only reward people that are brilliant, not the intelligent ones. T for thanks.
