Nigeria’s oldest prisoner, Pa Celestine Egbohuche, has regained his freedom after 19 years of being in the Enugu Maximum Prison. Pa Egbunuche was sent to jail after a court found him and his son, Paul, guilty of plotting murder and condemned him to death. Just before leaving office, former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, granted him state pardon. The 100-year-old ex-convict was received outside the Enugu state maximum security prison by his only surviving daughter and the representatives of Global Society for Anti Corruption, an NGO who facilitated his release. "I'm so grateful to God for this day. I'm the happiest human being on Earth'' Celestine told newsmen Egbunuche, suffers from health problems including diabetes and failing eyesight, and is currently in a hospital. Authorities in Ghana are planning to sue producers of the movie Black Panther, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) over alleged patent and copyright breaches. The producers of the movie are accused of using the country’s famous traditional fabric, Kente, without appropriate permission. According to the Ghana National Folklore Board, the producers ought to have gotten permission from them before using the traditional Kente fabric in the film. Reports says that though Ghana National Folklore Board are yet to officially write Marvel who produced the movie that broke several box office records netting 1.344 billion dollars as of May 22, 2018. They are however gearing up for that to express. Ms Adobea who spoke on behalf of the board said “We are preparing a legal dossier. The strategy is that we are not going in for a fight,” she indicated, adding “it is not adversarial”. She went on to explain that permissions are not required of anyone intending to use any of the Ghanaian symbols and folklore in a customary context or for personal use. In addition, she said the Board will “sit down with them [Marvel Studios], negotiate as to how they can compensate [Ghana] because they were to come for permission but they did not”. Family of Stephen Urueye, the resident doctor at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba who was stabbed to death by hoodlums, has cried out over the alleged silence by the police on the case. The family lamented that about seven weeks after the 25-year-old doctor was cruelly killed, the police had not called to update them on investigation into the murder. Late Urueye, who was supposed to finish his housemanship at LUTH in December 2019, was attacked on Thursday, April 4, around 9pm while he was seeing off a female friend along the Canal area – a route near the College of Medicine campus said to be notorious for robbery attacks. The assailants reportedly stabbed him in the thigh while trying to dispossess him of his phone and ATM card. He died at the hospital in the early hours of Friday and the police in a statement had said two suspects, Gbadebo Jimoh and Malik Adeboye, were arrested in connection with the murder. However, an elder sister of the deceased, Mrs Amina Wahab, in an interview with City Round on Thursday, said that was the last they heard about the case. She said the police had kept the family in the dark about the investigation, adding that justice appeared to be elusive. Wahab stated, “We have not heard anything from the police. They have not contacted the family at all. We don’t know what happened to the suspects they arrested. We don’t know whether they have been released or not. “It is almost two months now, no information from the police; no justice. At least, we deserve to know what is happening. The bandits stabbed him near his private parts which aroused suspicions. A robber will probably stab somebody in the chest or hand to injure him. The most annoying part of it is that my mother called a policeman, one Officer Nurudeen, at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department over the case on Wednesday and he was insulting her. Maybe they have concluded that we are weak and cannot do anything" Read more here: http://earlybaze.com.ng/2019/05/25/7-weeks-after-family-of-murdered-luth-doctor-cries-out-over-police-silence-on-the-investigation/
