Jobs/Vacancies / Job Interview Mistakes by ShiftControlAlt(m): 10:33am On Apr 30, 2012
Here are some of my own job interview mistakes!

1. Being too blunt. While most interviewers might pretend to want to hear the truth and might even encourage you by being friendly and relaxed the truth is most of them don't want to hear certain things from applicants like if your desire to start your own business in 5 years time. If you are asked where do you see yourself in 5 years time, I reckon a good answer will be, i hope to have an MBA by then. Telling stuff like you hope to be your own boss will upset most of them.

2. Stating how much you will like to be paid directly. Most jobs have a salary range usually an industry average, if you are asked how much you'll like to be paid and you mistakenly ask for something outside that range you will most likely be dropped for the job especially if there are other applicants asking for lesser. Experience has taught me to always ask to be paid according to industry range or to state a range of salary I think is reasonable and affordable for the employer in question. If you currently have a job and you are asked how much your present job pays, politely decline answering that question or if you must give a range. For instance if I earn N40k monthly and I'm asked how much I earn at present, I'll say between N40K to N60k or politely decline answering that question because it seriously puts you at a disadvantage for salary negotiation.

Let us here our tips. What are some of your own job interview mistakes and lessons learnt?

NYSC / Re: Is Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Worth Doing? by ShiftControlAlt(m): 11:46am On Apr 26, 2012
Seun: Yes, it is a waste of time. Don't do it unless you absolutely have to. There's nothing that you can possibly gain through the NYSC program that you can't gain without it. For example, you can offer to work for companies for free without the NYSC. You can go to a village and start teaching in their schools for free.

I can't believe you just said that. Anyways NYSC is not about you it's about your service to fatherland. Even when your country's leaders are messing up, you can show that you can make a difference and be a source of inspiration to many village kids who are hoping to one day become useful to themselves. That said, NYSC members have been a source of community development in many places they served. During my NYSC days, a corper renovated an Ambulance that had not been in use for more than 3 years, another one provided 3 wheel chairs and donated textbooks to a school, one built a school library, another brought 300 mosquito nets. All these people did not consider NYSC a waste of time so why should you?

But NYSC is stressful sha especially if you are an Ajebutter.

Politics / Re: Salami Ibrahim Found And Returned ₦7M At MMIA by ShiftControlAlt(m): 10:45am On Apr 25, 2012
Ayomax: i once made tht stupid mistake, i found 70k in a misplaced wallet n i returned it, only for da useless woman to giv me N100 for my reward,i left witout colectn da 1h. Dis guy wil regret returnin da money

This your talk get K-leg, did you return the money to be rewarded or because you wanted the owner to have it back? It doesn't matter whether she gave you anything or not as long as your conscience is clear, next time sha like you said chop the money but remember one day the same could happen to you too and you'll ponder on why people can't be honest.
