OP, I guess it's the manner you guys rushed accusing him of tribal sentiments thinking perhaps he was an Ibo man Many of you don't know that Reno is almost Yoruba Apart from his mum being Yoruba (Ogun State), Itsekiri tribe in Delta State where his dad comes from has a lot of historical ties with Yoruba. Infact, it's safe to call Reno a Yoruba man Concerning the Achebe/Soyinka issue, yes I agree with him. Ask any unbiased literature student (past or present) and they will easily choose Chinua Achebe. |
rusher14:Stop phooling yourself. The GEJ and OBJ govts were far more private sector friendly. See, Buhari does not know anything about how these private investments you posted here came about. If not for the protracted dispute between Dangote and Bua the two cement plants would have been operational far back 2013. Buhari knows nothing about Azura power plant either. He may be invited in the commissioning ceremony though. For your information, this is GEJ doing the groundbreaking of Azura .

He is from Imo State, South East Nigeria ... But, represented Lagos state, South West Nigeria in the National Assembly As sponsor of the almighty "Not Too Young to Run Bill" I would say he made the most impact among current parliamentarians representing Lagos in the current NASS. Remember, he is from far away Imo State But history will have it that a LAGOS Rep (not Imo) sponsored the 'Not too Young to Run Bill' This is how it's done in western countries. They go for anyone who can add value to their country irrespective of tribe or religion. The repeated tribal fights in Lagos during elections are unnecessary. |

This is laughable .... Like seriously? |

litdutchboy:Bro, Peter Obi's family are not the owners of Sabmiller. They are not! Sabmiller was already a South African brewery giant (much bigger than our own Nigerian brewery) when Peter Obi brought them to Nigeria. Agreed his family acquired minor stakes in it too in attempt to encourage them to get settled in Nigeria ... but, it's outrageous to claim Obi owns Sabmiller Lie lie lie .... |
litdutchboy:It's not corruption. Besides Peter Obi's family are not the owners of AB-Inbev/Sabmiller. That company was already a South African brewery giant when Peter Obi lured them to Nigeria Generally, State governments nationwide invest in business ventures. Tell me your state and I will tell you a business venture they have invested in. I guess it's Akwa Ibom State .... well, let me remind you that state invested heavily in the then ECONET (now Airtel) Adams Oshiomole, your party's chairman invested Edo state money in Azura power plant All the North West states of Kaduna, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina and Sokoto have direct stakes in Northern Nigeria Cement Company Sokoto. South West states have stakes in Wema Bank etc etc etc |
litdutchboy:Lol ... and what is wrong in investing state money in a business venture? Are you condemning a $30m investment that has today yielded Anambra state over a $100m? Remember, Anambra state also seized that advantage to host a major plant of that brewery in Onitsha creating thousands of jobs and boosting state's IGR Today, that same brewery (AB-Inbev/sabmiller) has expanded rapidly to Port Harcourt and Sagamu-Ogun State creating thousands of jobs for Nigeria Infact, the Sagamu plant is touted as the biggest brewery plant in West Africa |
. Imagine an Obi/El-Rufai ticket |
litdutchboy:Oga, Peter Obi was a private sector person. He was not in government then, neither was he a PDP member. Nobody accuses Peter Obi of corruption. Infact, if there is any clean ex-governor in Nigeria today, it is Peter Obi. |
Sentiments apart, Nigeria needs technocrats like Peter Obi. Take aways 1) It is not possible to have a nation of saints. Such a nation does not exist. In trying to rid the society of corruption, we have to pursue the vision of building a nation 2) The future of the nation is far more important. You must draw a line between yesterday and today. What is more important is to secure today, while gradually trying to recover what you lost in the past. If you are too focused on the past, you will miss tomorrow. 3) Our economy is getting worse because we are focused on yesterday instead of tomorrow. 4) I have been a governor for 8yrs where I inherited schools that were not working. We were backward in education and health and the state owed several years of gratuity. But in the eight years of my administration, we became number one in education. We won the Bill Gates award for health. We had the best road network and we became the best in financial management. If we were focused on the past, we would not have achieved all that. 5) The best way to fight corruption is to ensure that funds are used exactly for what they are meant for. 6) Corruption has nothing to do with unemployment. Economies are driven by the private sector. India today is being led by somebody who came from the system. They saw what he was able to do in his region and brought him to the centre. In our own case, somebody comes from the moon and starts promising heaven. Everybody believes him, but when you put him there, he is confused. 7) So, we need to change our leadership recruitment process and recruit people who have ideas and can also have the political will to take decisions and follow them through. We should also recruit leaders who have record of past performance that is verifiable. |
