oga mi....you too much. good to hear from you again. let me guess...you rendered with blender render.

Viva Blender Render forever! grin
Cycles is just not for me. Besides, I'm not ready to give up my 55sec per frame render time for cycles...... Hell no. Ambient occolution, environmental lighting and indirect lighting gives me what I want. Also since I prefer NPRs, I opted out of cycles

Anyone just fully into animation? Lyk fully?.
hi everyone. In response to your question, I think I can say I've gone totally into animation. I lecture it at the national film institute jos, and NTA television college jos. However the bulk of my income comes from freelance work. currently, I've been contracted to make five 3min animations for a polling firm in abuja. just finished the second one. Unfortunately, the signed terms of the agreement prevents me from showing anything yet until it has been officially launched. that's why I've been out of touch for a while

have been wondering that me self.......maybe the fault lies in the IPO.....we perhaps focus less attention to it. How many frame intervals do you use?
yeah IPOs could help u achieve that. once had a blender book which technically explained that, unfortunately I have no idea where I misplaced it, or even the name of the book.
I once did an animation at 50fps gosh was it extra smooth and fluid. explains y peter Jackson used it for the hobbit. try it for the fun of it and see

Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Where Are The 3d Animators, The Cg Artist Gone? by Shimish: 10:12pm On Jul 19, 2014
some years ago, blender forum hosted an animation competition in which they distributed a character model for download. participants were to rig the character and have the character perform a run and jump across a chasm, and a land. seemed straight forward right, but u have no idea the kind of creativity and humor people put into such a simple action.
my point is, you could consider something like that for a start, but then its just a suggestion from my part. its all up to you
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Where Are The 3d Animators, The Cg Artist Gone? by Shimish: 10:02pm On Jul 19, 2014
centje: nice works! I don't really know much on 3d, but my question is, if you can make these 3ds why can't you make animation like those of Disney's?
Secondly, as a novice like me what is the best way to kick start learning of 3d graphics and graphics in general and develop it to high levels?
thanks for the complement.
well regarding the Disney thing, I stopped trying to being like them but instead tried to be the best I can. discovered that most of these big studios use custom made softwares which give them certain effects and looks. also one person cannot achieve what a it takes a whole team to achieve in years. also there is an issue of hardware. I recently watched a behind the scenes clip from DreamWorks how to train your dragon 2, where they said it would have taken them about 90 million hrs to render the movie, so Intel had to build a custom made computer and software to handle the work.
regarding learning, I would suggest picking a software that u r comfortable with and be consistent with it. watch lots of video tutorials on YouTube, and most importantly, keep experimenting. with animation, trial and error is your friend, so be patient.

kazuna: Does anyone know hw to simulate water using textures?
great work bro. I was wondering myself why this thread was losing steam. I guess everyone is running to the other thread with the competition.
anyway, u can append your water texture to an object like an empty so that when u move the empty, the texture moves. or you can just use dynamic paint to do that

Tos87: pls shimish...help me out here....i want you to pls explain how you gave that dog a nice skin. i can remember you said some thing about using passes or was it Kazuma ...just explain pls.
the passes part was definitely not me.
what i did was to UV unwrap the dog, switch to texture paint mode and paint on the dog model like u would do with a paint brush. while u do this, the UV map will automatically update with the the changes u have made. then u apply the new texture map as a UV texture. I'm new to it, kazuna is more of the expert in that.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Shimish: 4:46pm On Jul 09, 2014
the thing with cycles it that it is tailored towards photo realistic renders, which I only do once in a while. I decided to stick to internal because its more flexible for me.
also I learned (not 100% certain) from a cousin of mine that the main brain behind cycles has left blender for another job he got
also, I've been building my personal library of custom made materials and textures and assets/props since I began in 2007 as a result, switching will mean retexturing everything I've ever done, and discarding all my custom mad material. soooooooo not really something I'm looking forward to.
for example, the current interface of blender is based on the 2.50 series. I started with 2.45 which was entirely different. switching to this new interface felt like learning blender all over again. in fact there r some changes that I still haven't figured out yet. so u guys just joining blender now r soooo damn lucky. sometimes I even envy u people cheesy

nice. I'm sure it may sound strange/funny when I say this, but do you know that I do not know how to use cycles!
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Shimish: 4:47am On Jul 09, 2014
@ Toss87 thanks
@ Yinksey thanks for the comment. your scene is really lovely. did u render with cycles or Internal render?
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 3D ENTHUSIAST ZONE: Blender 3d For The Novice Of The Highest Order! by Shimish: 10:15am On Jul 08, 2014
OKX: @yinksey
yeah. I think he is creating a generic clip for the cycle that he can use to build several different actions, hence the absence of facial animation.
I think tho.....
you hit the nail on the head. it's just a 3 second cycle template. for speed check and timing, the entire scene is meant to be about 15 to 20 seconds. there will be plenty of time to add other secondary movements within
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Where Are The 3d Animators, The Cg Artist Gone? by Shimish: 5:03am On Jul 07, 2014
OKX: @shimish
looking real promising.
a slight pop in the knees, and maybe tone down the hand movement on the handle bar a bit.....unless he's meant to b weaving across the street.

great job.

lol thanks for the observations, makes sense. I've made the adjusts.
Royver: @shimish, beautiful job man, well done.
Wanted to ask about your placement of lighting, is he riding into the sun or away from it?Then the movement of the front tyre, although giving a good illusion of movement, seems a bit much to me. Also
concerning the characters from your previous picture, amazing. did you model them yourself?

Visited your website. Wonderful work. Kudos.
thanks. regarding the lighting, like I said its just a test render, because rendering it just takes a few minutes; however it would frustrating to spend hours rendering the final scene, only to notice errors in the animation. the scene where he is riding already has its lighting set up which will take care of your light concerns.
regarding the modeling, I model everything myself excluding vehicles. regarding the front tire, I'm not sure I get you. are you referring to the wheel rotation or the wheel steering?

Hey Shimish, how na?
Nice work you're doing in the blender threads on here.

What is your view on Royver's
suggestions.?
Btw, that third pics is 'deadly'! grin
thanks pal. anyway, as regards to his suggestion, its not a bad idea. however, the thing is that most 3d artists I know r deeply engrossed in on project or another. either passion projects or jobs. as a result, its sometimes a bit difficult to make out time for some competitions. or maybe I'm just speaking for myself. I've been very busy with a passion project of mine, which has been suffering lately as a result of balancing it with work and freelance jobs.
anyway, thought I should just upload this short clip from a test render of a scene In my film. please tell me what u think.

Hi everyone. Been a while. Nairaland broke my heart, but thanks to you loyal one who have still been posting on the thread to keep it alive, ive decided to get back on the horse. As it turns out, I have finally started animating my film. Still rendering the first scene, so just decided to show a little bicycle riding cycle I did for one scene. What do u think?
