IslamFriday—the Best Day Of The Week For Muslim by shina419(op): 7:23am On May 22, 2015
Friday is a very important day for Muslims. It is more significant and more beneficial than any other day of the week. It is the day that Muslims gather together to pray in congregation. Directly before the prayer they listen to a lecture designed to empower them with valuable knowledge about God, and the religion of Islam. It is a blessed day that has been designated as such by God, Almighty; no other day of the week shares its virtues.

>A believer’s entire life is one of worship; even celebrations are conducted as worship. While there is no special place or special time to worship God, there are moments, days, or times that God has made more superior; Friday is one of those times.

From the traditions of Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, we learn that “The best day in the sight of God is Friday, the day of congregation”.[1] Congregational prayers (obligatory for men) are one of the most strongly emphasized duties in Islam. It is a time when Muslims come together to worship One God, and find strength and comfort by standing shoulder to shoulder and reaffirming their faith and devotion to Him.

“O you who believe! When the call to prayer is proclaimed on Friday hasten earnestly to the remembrance of God, and leave aside business. That is best for you if you but knew.” (Quran 62:9)

In many predominantly Muslim countries Friday is weekly holiday, sometimes combined with either Thursday or Saturday. However there is no mandatory closing of businesses except during the time of the congregational prayer. In western countries many Muslims try to take their lunch break during the time for prayer, usually in the very early afternoon.

Prophet Muhammad told his followers that “The five daily prayers, and from one Friday prayer till the next, serves as an expiation for whatever sins have been committed between them, provided one does not commit any major sin.

”[2]It is important that a Muslim not neglect Friday Prayer due to work, study, or other worldly matters. Believers should make attending this prayer a priority since ignoring it three times in a row, with no valid reason, will cause a believer to stray from the straight path.

While it is only men who are obliged to attend the Friday congregational prayer there are also many recommended acts that can be performed by men, women or children during this day. These acts include, taking a bath and wearing clean clothes, saying numerous supplications to God, sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad, and reading Chapter 18 of the Quran, which is entitled ‘The Cave’.

Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, said, “There is no day more virtuous than Friday. In it there is an hour in which no one will pray to God except that God will hear his prayer”.[3]

“Friday consists of twelve hours, one of which is the hour where supplications are granted for believers. This hour is sought during the last hour after Asr (the third prayer in the day).[4]”“

Whoever recites ‘The Cave’ on Friday, God will give him a light to the next Friday.”[5]“

The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. It is the day Adam was created. It is the day when Adam entered the Heavenly Gardens, the day when he was expelled from it and also the day he died. Friday is the day on which the Day of Resurrection will take place.”[6].
Friday is also the day on which one of the greatest verses in the Quran was revealed.“This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion.” (Quran 5:3)

A story from the life of the second Caliph Omar, illustrates the significance of Friday. A learned person from among the Jews said to Omar Ibn Al Khattab “In the Quran you people read a certain verse; if that verse had been revealed to us, we would have celebrated that day annually.” Omar asked, “Which verse is that?” The man replied, “This day, I have perfected your religion for you’. Omar then said, “Verily I remember the day and the place where this verse was revealed. It was already a double celebration for us. Firstly it was Friday-a day of Eid (celebration) for all Muslims and secondly, it was the day of Arafat – the most important day of the Hajj.” Omar further stated that this verse was revealed after Asr (afternoon prayer) while Prophet Muhammad was sitting on his camel.

Friday is a special day; the congregational prayer performed on this day holds special significance in the life of a Muslim. This is well noted and discussed by Islamic scholars both past and present.

Thirteenth century Islamic scholar IbnTaymiyyah said: “The most excellent day of the week is Friday according to the consensus of scholars” [7] and his student Ibnul -Qayyim mentions 32 special characteristics of Friday in hisbook Zad Al- Ma’ad.

Prophet Muhammad said “Verily, this is the Eid day (day of celebration) that God has prescribed for the Muslims”[8]. Believers would be wise to take advantage of the blessings God sends down to His slaves on Friday. This is a day of congregation, a day of celebration and a day of contemplation and supplication.

PoliticsElection Results In South-east, South-south Largely Written At Homes – Onu by shina419(op): 1:09pm On May 16, 2015
Former governor of Abia State and a leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has alleged that while the 2015 general election was credible and peaceful in the North and the South-west, results of the polls were to a large extent written at homes in the South-South and South-East.Making this claim on Friday during the investiture of Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State as Verbatim Magazine Man of the Year atGiginya-Coral Hotel, Sokoto, Onu said democracy could only grow and endure in an environment where elections were free, peaceful and credible.According to him, “So far in our country, Nigeria is divided into two parts. On the one hand in the North and South West, elections are reasonably free and fair while in the South-South and the South East, results of elections, to a large extent, are written in homes”.Stressing that all Nigerian citizens must be made to feel that they were participating in choosing their leaders, erstwhile chairman of the defunct ANPP described this as the only way to build trust between the people and theirleaders. He advocated the use of electronic voting in such a way that all elections would be conducted on the same day, adding that this would facilitate the conduct of credible elections in the country.Onu noted that Nigerians owed a lot ofgratitude to Wamakko for working very hard to effect a change in government, which had given hope of a brighter future for all Nigerians.Describing Wamakko as a “Man of masses”, who worked tirelessly to look after those who ordinarily could not look after themselves, he said, “Wehavecome to honour a leader of his people at a time when many of the cherished values have been set aside and neglected in our dear country. We have come to recognise a leader who put the interest of his people first, in many of the things he did”.Speaking shortly after receiving the award, Governor Wamakko averred that the sacrifice of the APC was for the interest of Nigerians, not for their personal gains, adding that they were ready to pay the supreme price for thiscountry.According to him, the struggle was to salvage Nigeria from bad governance and other vices that tarnishedthe name of this country among the comity of nations.According to him, “Now the country’s image has changed, all the national leaders had called our President-elect,assuring him of their support and cooperation.“Even the stigma that our nationals are facing outside the country is fast washing away and very soonit will be the thing of the past,” he assured.

PoliticsCABINET FORMATION: South West Govs In Quandary? by shina419(op): 5:15am On May 15, 2015
By Dapo Akinrefon
The change of baton at the federal level, is expected to be experienced at state levels.

In the South West geo-political zone, only three governors will be inaugurated on May 29.This is because governorship elections were conducted in only three states (Oyo, Ogun and Lagos States). While elections were held in Ekiti and Osun States in 2014, Ondo State is slated to hold in 2016. Already in the zone, behind the scene meetings and consultations are being held to presentpresumed lieutenants who will help drive the agenda of the incoming administrations.

Interestingly, all the state governors in the region have embarked on the journey of dissolving their cabinet members in a bid to have a breadth of fresh air.

In a remarkable change, it is expected that while some of these state executives will make use of technocrats, others will be a mixture of technocrats and party members. In some states within the region, pundits posit that some governors will be in a state of perplexity owing to external influences, who were instrumental to their emergence as governors. Another factor that will play out in the emergence of cabinet members, is the influence of some top party leaders, who worked round the clock to ensure these governors got either elected or re-elected.

Lagos
In Lagos State, there is every likelihood that the governor-elect, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, might find his hands tied over the choice of his cabinet members.

Following the role played during the electioneering campaigns by the former governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu; Mr Ambode may find himself ina difficult situation as he has to consult Tinubu and Akiolu while forming his team.

Just like the outgoing governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola had his team allegedly put together by Asiwaju Tinubu, Ambode.

Members of the Lagos State executive are usually known to be a mixture of technocrats and party members, perhaps a repeat of this might feature in Ambode’s cabinet.

Ogun
For Governor Ibikunle Amosun of OgunState, he seems to have entered into some accord with some political bigwigs in the state with a view to accommodating them in his cabinet.

During his first term, Amosun was accused of injecting technocrats in his cabinet to the detriment of party members who worked for his emergence.

However, this development did not go down well with some top-notch of the party, who felt aggrieved and left the fold.

Oyo
For breaking the second term jinx, Governor Abiola Ajimobi will be giving preference to elders and leaders in the state in his cabinet, who worked for hisvictory at the polls.Though, feelers from the Agodi Government House suggests that there is perceived tension looming over the possible dissolution of Ajimobi’s cabinet

.In 2011, some leaders and elders from the state presented names of their stooges to Ajimobi for consideration inhis cabinet

.Expectedly, in the new cabinet to be formed, the likes of the Alaafin of Oyo, the Arisekola family, late Lam Adesina,Oba Odulana, are perceived to have slots in the new cabinet.

Ondo
It is evident that palpable tension has set in following speculations that governor Olusegun Mimiko before May29 may disband his cabinet.

Following his return to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, there is the likelihood that Mimiko will be injecting both technocrats and political hirelings into his cabinet
.Osun
Already, the Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has dissolved his cabinet and is expected to present the names of the nominees to the State House of Assembly. In his first term, Aregbesola went for young technocrats of Osun origin, scattered in all parts of the world, among them were university scholars and other professionals.

This time, the governor will be taking into consideration some All Progressives Congress, APC, bigwigs, who have distinguished themselves in recent times.

These chieftains are already pushing for a slot to be allocated to them in the Aregbesola cabinet.

Ekiti state there is already a running battle in Ekiti State where 19 lawmakers elected on the platform of the APC are frowning with Governor Ayo Fayose’s alleged impunity. The Speaker, Dr Adewal Omirin had accused the governor of encouraging six PDP lawmakers to screen commissioners and Special Advisers for Fayose’s cabinet. Though the commissioners have set out to work but Omirin and his colleagues have described their appointment null and void.

Good hands are everywhere—Igbokwe

Speaking on the composition of cabinet members across the South west especially for Lagos State, the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Engineer Joe Igbokwe said “anybody that is good, should fit into government. You can find them everywhere, they can be technocrats or politicians. They can also be captains of industries, they are everywhere. Whoever that can do the job should be invited because there are good people everywhere but only the best is good for Lagos State.”
PoliticsBuhari Is Beautiful: He Is Everyone’s Bride by shina419(op): 4:56am On May 15, 2015
Many politicians who few months ago would not near General Muhammadu Buhari are beating one another to get an audience with the president-elect. The competition to be Buhari’s friend is stoking crisis in state chapters of the All Progressives Congress, APC

By Emmanuel Aziken,Political editor

It was perhaps an act of providence that Chief Adolo Okotie-Eboh who was recently returned as the Delta State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC missed his flight from Lagos to Abuja last Wednesday. Only few would have imagined what would have happened had he caught up with the convoy of party stakeholders from his state had he met them before they were bussed from the Transcorp Hilton hotel for the scheduled meeting with the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.

Okotie-Eboh’s miss, inadvertently prevented a possible embarrassing showdown between him and Olorogun Otega Emerhor, the man running the affairs of the party in the state.

Both men are indeed steeped in their positions as “victims of injustice.” While Okotie-Eboh is alleging that he is being denied his due by the national secretariat of the party, Emerhor who was the party’s governorship candidate in the recent elections is claiming that the elections were rigged against him

.Publicity secretary of the Okotie-Eboh faction of the party, Alex Eyengho confirming the bad blood in the state chapter of the party told Vanguard yesterday: “Whether anyone likes it or not, APC in Delta State is highly, factionalised. We have three major factions. The Otega/Prophet Jones Erue faction, the Adolo Okotie Eboh faction which has secured the court judgment dissolving the Erue executive, and also, the Temi Harriman, Okpozo, Alex Ideh faction. The group that went to Abuja was just Otega’s group.”The factional visit was reflective of the deep divisions in the party in the state which is yet to recover after the Jones faction, a month ago, caused to be published advertorials on the alleged expulsion of some major stakeholders from the party

.•BuhariThe announcement which was denounced by major national and state stakeholders was, ironically, quickly disowned by Jones. Temi Harriman, the state coordinator for General Muhammdu Buhari and Dr. Alex Ideh, who was the secretary of the APC National Convention Committee, NCC have largely been indifferent to the Jones faction.

The crisis in Delta according to stakeholders, was instigated to smear the pair of Harriman and Ideh who were prominent in the national campaign from possible rewards in the Buhari government.Conspicuous by their absence in the visit to Buhari were APC leaders like Dr. Pat Utomi, Chief Hyacinth Enuha, Chief LJ Esigie, Harriman, Ideh and DIG Donald Ugbaja (rtd.)

The APC in Enugu State is also having its own internal convulsion following what the state chapter of the party alleged on Wednesday as plans by two former ministers, Senator Jim Nwobodo and Prof. Bath Nnaji to secretly enter the party

.State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mrs. Kate Offor, briefing newsmen on the issue described the alleged action of the two men as “medicine after death.”“At an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee of Enugu State Chapter of APC, we unequivocally resolved that the membership drive aimed at enlisting Prof. Barth Nnaji, Chief Jim Nwobodo and co into our great party be stopped forthwith.“For us, it is medicine after death, given the shameful result we recorded in the presidential election, and governorship where we got less than three per cent and 10 per cent of the total votes cast in Enugu State respectively.

The Enugu APC officials were apparently not happy that Nwobodo went ahead of them to pay Buhari a visit.Another solidarity visit to General Buhari by some political stakeholders from Akwa Ibom State has also drawn the ire of APC leaders from that state. The delegation from Akwa Ibom State led by the immediate past governor of the state, Obong Victor Attah had paid a solidarity visit to Buhari during which they lamented the conduct of the last elections in the state saying that the elections were rigged against the APC.

The trouble for the APC local government chairmen in the state, however, is that Attah is yet to formally cross over from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the APC.

The APC local government chairmen in a joint statement rejected the delegation as that of the APC saying that “Commendable as the visit was in apprising the president-elect of his immediate challenge in office regarding Akwa Ibom State,” that the group “lied to the president-elect and Nigerians by trying to pass their delegation as that of the stakeholders of the APC Akwa Ibom State, a development that could confuse the president-elect or at least mislead him

.”The divisions in Delta, Enugu and Akwa Ibom are, however, apparently missing in Rivers State, ironically, one of the major strongholds of the party inthe South-South region.Receiving a delegation of party officials from the state also on Wednesday, Buhari had pledged that the persecutions suffered by APC members would not be swept under the carpet.

He spoke in reference to alleged acts of harassment by security men in collaboration with another political party in the state.“We will confront them with facts and figures. We will not forgive and we will not forget those who perpetrated killings and arson in Rivers State during the elections. At least this is the much we owe Nigerians.”
PoliticsGoodbye Patience Jonathan, Welcome Aisha Buhari by shina419(op): 6:59am On May 14, 2015
The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, exudes excesses, a certain superfluity that jumps at you whether you study her in still images or actuallife. From her outsized personality to her self-aesthetisation, one sees a woman whose effervescence is not self-containing. In the past five years,Mrs. Jonathan has impressed her persona on Nigeria’s cultural imagination and she qualifies as a subject of academic studies on a wide-ranging number of topics. She is one First Lady Nigerians will not forget in a hurry and for many legitimate reasons too. Her constant bending and bludgeoning of grammarto meet her linguistic needs is only one of them. She will be remembered for her contribution to Nigeria’s repertoire of slang and lingo. Each time we say, ‘Chaaaai!’ or ‘There is God o!’ we (inadvertently) pay culturalhomage to the First Lady who, through her raw use of language, her unabashed simplicity and general self-presentation, set a standard through which future First Ladies would be measured. Her over-the-top solo performance post the Chibok girls’ saga was a self-auditioning in the theatre of bizarreness. She made the most famous Nollywood drama of all time. The viewer, watching her shed unseentears into a handkerchief, is simultaneously amused and ashamed at the same time. And this is the First Lady?! Somehow, I get the impression that Dame Jonathan herself is not in the least mortified by her melodramatic acting in that video. Let the guild of Nigerian sophisticates who cannot handle her excessiveness go sort themselves out. This past election season, she went all out and even beyond the bounds ofher Self that Nigerians have known. Her relentless abuses of MuhammaduBuhari, and her many gaffes while campaigning (including her sincere non-understanding of what constitutes “corruption”) was like a faucet turned on at full speed; it was perhaps no surprise her cup was soonfull.Nigeria has had a number of First Ladies but none – so far – has matched the Dame. Even Mrs. Turai Yar’Adua – a woman reputed to be so powerful, so influential that she did something no woman had ever done before in the history of Nigeria: she led a cabal of men that kept her husband on puppet strings during his unfortunate illness – was far more self-effacing. Mrs. Jonathan is simplyin a class of her own.Until now, Dame Jonathan’s excesseshave been met by cries of indignation by the folk who see her as a commentary on her husband’s perceived weakness. They took the trouble to advise President Goodluck Jonathan to “control” or “restrain” his wife. When she still would not sit still, they reframed the narrative to suggesther husband was not man enough. In Nigeria where the ruler-ruled relationship is often conceived in familial terms (like “father/mother of the nation” orSai Baba! usually chanted by Buhari’s followers) and the concept of masculinity is often conflated with political power, it was easy to indict the presidential “man-ness” with the First Lady’s immoderateness. If a man cannot “control” the members of his own household, whence lies his claim to authentic manhood? How can he confidently assert he is in charge of an intractable nation like Nigeria?Dame Jonathan will also be remembered as the first First Lady to take up a job as an absentee civil servant, and for her open partisanshipthat led to a contest of will between her and the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi. On her plunge into the murky waters of politics, it is possible her biographers (not hagiographers) will be conflicted about how to account for this part of her history. Should she be praised for pushing against the borders of limitations of what women in her position can – or should – do? Or should she have remained a domesticappendage, an ornamentation that merely aesthesises the backdrop of her husband’s Presidency? There is probably not going to be an objective, non-emotive answer. From May 29, Nigerians will welcomea new First Lady – Mrs. Aisha Buhari. I admit I am looking forward to Mrs. Buhari’s time with a huge dollop of expectations. For one, where Mrs. Jonathan has been in everyone’s face, she has been virtually invisible. Her husband contested four times but it was only this last time that she campaigned for him. She almost did not surface until electioneering was well underway. I wrote a piece then questioning her invisibility and for therest of that Thursday, my mailbox burnt with the fury of Buhari’s horde ofsupporters who, predictably enough, questioned what I intended to do with her. ‘How many megawatts of electricity will her appearance add to Nigeria?’ they asked with outrage laden with kilowatts of sanctimonious pretensions. Their business of saving Nigeria brooked noquestions of her whereabouts; my quest was tantamount to threatening Buhari’s chances. You get the impression they did not even stop to consider the question before expressing dubious rage.Interestingly, Mrs. Buhari appeared onthe campaign trail almost immediately and has remained a constant face in the media. Now she has caught the attention of commentators and journalists who can hardly get over her physical appearance. One can only hope they task themselves to do more than ogle her. More importantly, they should resist the temptation to confine her into the corners of their own minds. The last point is significant.Coming after Mrs. Jonathan whose mien wore almost everyone out, Mrs Buhari will be haunted by Mrs. Jonathan’s ghost for a while. People will expect Mrs Buhari to be an anti-thesis of her predecessor. That isquite understandable considering thatMrs Jonathan is a tough act to follow.Mrs. Buhari will be expected to be subdued and sober. Any attempt at defining her own person, or an emergence of character independent of her husband, might be met with self-righteous criticisms by those who assume that the First Ladyship islimited to looking after the President’sdomestic affairs so he can focus on the heavy lifting his job requires. As far as I am concerned, Mrs. Buhari does not need to deny her convictions to satisfy those who will want her to reduce her to the size of their anxieties and biases. She once said she will be her husband’s wife first before being the First Lady. That is fair enough considering she is Mrs. Buhari before being the First Lady but her status after May 29 can also be put to a more significant use beyond her becoming an icon of domesticity. There are multiple advocacy issues she can be involved in and yes, still remain classy.
HealthNearly 200 Scientists Warn Of Cellphone Healthrisks by shina419(op): 10:20am On May 13, 2015
http://on.rt.com/1w8xh5
Biological and health scientists from Russia and Iran to the USA are calling on the UN, the World Health Organization and national governments to develop strict regulations concerning devices and cellphones that create electromagnetic fields.

The scientists are from 39 nations and have authored 2,000 peer-reviewed papers on the health and biological effects of non-ionizing radiation, which is part of the electromagnetic field spectrum. In a letter, they say that devices like cellphones pose risks of cancer, genetic damage, changes in reproductive system, and learning and memory deficits.

“Putting it bluntly they are damaging the living cells in our bodies and killing many of us prematurely,”said Dr. Martin Blank, from the Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics at Columbia University, in a video message.

“We have created something that is harming us, and it is getting out of control. Before Edison’s light bulb there was very little electromagnetic radiation in our environment. The levels today are very many times higher than natural background levels, and aregrowing rapidly because of all the new devices that emit this radiation.

”One example that was cited is the cellphone. Blank pointed to a study which showed that as cellphone usage has spread widely, the incidence of fatal brain cancer in younger people has morethan triple.

The scientists see the unregulated use of radio frequency radiation in cellphones and Wi-Fi as developing into a public health crisis. Blank said biologists and scientists are not being heard from committees that set safety standards, that safety limits are much too high and that biological facts are being ignored.

“They are not protective,” he added. “We are really all part of large biological experiment without our informed consent. To protect ourselves, our children, and our ecosystem, we must reduce exposure by establishing more protective guidelines.”

Scientists are appealing to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) to “convene and fund an independent multidisciplinary committee to explore the pros and cons of alternative to current practices that could substantially lower human exposure to RF and ELF fields.

”Read moreBerkeley to vote on 'right to know' law on cellphone radiation risks they request that the deliberations be “transparent and impartial,” and involve industry players in the field. However, scientists believe industry “should not be allowed tobias the process or conclusions.” Once completed, the analysis would offer the UN and WHO a guide for precautionary action.Questions have surfaced about the safety of EMF among the scientific community and with the public, but it is largely absent from national debate despite the ubiquitous use of devices, particularly in the United States.“…In the United States, where non-industry-funded studies are rare, where legislation protecting the wireless industry from legal challenges has long been in place…to suggest it might be a problem – maybe, eventually, a very public-health problem – is like saying our shoes might be killing us,” wrote journalist Christopher Ketchum in a 2010 GQarticle called “Warning: Your Cell Phone May Be Hazardous to Your Health.”Ketchum said a 2008 study sponsored by the International Agency for Research on Cancer in France reported that after a decade of cellphone use, the chances of getting a brain tumor – specifically on the side of the head where you use the phone – go up as much as 40 percent for adults.

PoliticsCan We Agree Never To Hire Anyone From World Bank And IMF To Manage Nigeria's Ec by shina419(op): 8:13am On May 13, 2015
“Lagarde [President of the IMF] had nothing specific to say about which ideas she thinks are most important—much less what compromises might be required, much less which specific countries, companies, or people might have to suffer to reach those compromises. Her speech was worse than tiresome. It was almost Orwellian in its vacuity. By its end, I couldn’t tell if the head of the International Monetary Fund was as stupid as she seemed or merely pretending to be stupid because she believes we have no right to hear what she really thinks. In case you didn’t hear me I meant NEVER!President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) made many unforced errors during his inglorious 6 year reign over Nigerians, and perhaps the most glaring was the appointment of Okonjo-Iweala as the de facto Prime Minister-Coordinating Minister on the economy. During her first stint as Minister of Finance under President Olusegun Obasanjo she was known as Madam Due Process and rode on the crest of Nigeria’s negotiated debt repayment, an exercise meant to repay Wall Street and Paris club for buying junk dubious debts owed by Nigeria’s corrupt prior administration, at the detriment of infrastructure developments and services to the poor Nigerian masses .Ms. Okonjo-Iweala, along with her sidekick Oby Ezekwesili, drew huge salaries unknown under Nigerian civil service rules and regulation. They convinced their bosses that they can fix Nigeria’s economy by subjecting it to IMF’s failed policies and sophistries. We know better now. In 6 years, Ms. Okonjo-Iweala ran Nigeria’s economy to the ground. She looked the other way while many of GEJ ministers loot the economy. Her bid to convince State Governors to hand her their statutory allocations were roundly rejected by the Governor’s forum---including those elected under PDP. That crisis contributed in large measure to the eventual loss of GEJ in last month presidential election .Under her tenure, salaries of political appointees exploded beyond the stratosphere. Politicians awarded themselves humongous benefits and emoluments while the poor masses suffered in silence. She is walking out the door with a vaunted claim of managing the highest GDP in Africa, even while Nigerians remain at the lowest nadir of poverty index worldwide. She and her boss celebrate the number of private leased jets packed at Nigeria’s airports by rich Nigerians, while millions of Nigerian civil servants are being owed more than 5 months of salaries .Why should we continue to listen these Bretton Woods prognosticators? They have failed everywhere they have been, but unfortunately our leaders continue to turn to them for ideas and policy direction. One can only hope that Buhari will not take the bait and will stay away from World Bank and IMF personnel when he Gets to pick his own economic management team.
