TookDownYourMum: Having a weak Cedi is not all bad..Its kinda a double edged sword
Cedi depreciation could make the jump for Ghana to be a export oriented nation possible since exporting shit will be comparatively cheaper. Places like Japan and South Korea artificially weaken their own currencies for this reason. Its just that if you were to import anything or travel aboard, it becomes more expensive as a result.
It also raises the price of goods but you wouldn't really have this problem if Ghana actually invested in its agiculture sector. 20.6% of arable land and over 7 million Ghanaian farmers yet NPP imports more than $2 billion worth of food that could be produced locally and banks make it hard for farmers to get access to capital and also screwing small businesses over with high interest payments.
Of course cutting such imports that could be produced locally would strengthen the Cedi too. Really, 1D1F initiative should of allowed boom of factories and creation of jobs via creating wealth and allowing Cedi to depend on itself. Thereby increasing the Cedi value. I don't know whats really happened there though.
Before I forget.
Ghana has 55% agricultural land - from 30% arable land, that is a joke. That is more than enough to disenthrall ghana from the current economic crisis. Kenya is 10% arable, yet We're doing close to 55% of agricultural with that.
rvp2018: Orange of course dumped it after they incurred 700M (390M to purchase & another cash injection in loan to Telkom - later converted to Equity) plus loss of opportunity.
They dumped it to Helios for a loss of 100M dollars. Helios bought it at 600M.
Now Helios have dumped it at 50m...whoppping loss of 550M dollars.
I dont know what they teach you in Nigeria - basic accounting - when Telkom kenya sells an asset - the shareholders being Kenya Gov and Helios - dont get paid - unless Telkom declared profit that year - and they get paid as dividend.
Kenya gov would have cashed 30% of that 170M from American Towers - but we know it never cashed anything.
The reason Telkom Kenya has been bankrupt for a long time. Now it's been valued at 10B kshs - and it surely will crawl out of its hole - now that it back to business.
In terms of licensing - 24M is annual 4G license - the initial license cost Telkom - 50m (the amount the idiots Helios paid)

The problem here is that Ghana is an import-dependent economy. There is no way you can convince me of any comeback - or tell me that Cedi depreciation Is good for Ghana's economy - especially with her already piled-up debt. The last time the cedi appreciated( going by the record), was in 2008 when your export value: cocoa and gold was at its peak. Since then, the cedi has been sinking to date.
You need more cedis to exchange for dollars; hence, you'll have to dig deep into Taxpayer money / increase the cost of living in order to service debt and finance your imports.. At the end of the day, the situation will still remain constant notwithstanding all the torture inflicted on the native's pocket.
Heck.. Hyperinflation is knocking. Aaah, Nah. Already in existence! This sh*t will definitely reduce your real wage. Consequences? You will need to spend more(CEDIS) to correspond with wage reduction. Alternatively, you choose to print cedi to cushion this quagmire, but this also has a dire consequence. cedis will become more useless / valueless and unsalable.
Mhh... What about gold coming as your knight in shining armour? Heheheee... Story for the gods. That can only happen in decades to come; when the cedi devaluation has been initiated and executed already.
In a nutshell. IMF, devaluation of Cedi( this can help your country boost exports, reduce trade deficite and probably minimize the costs of interest on debt.) or alternatively, a change of universal currency can save Ghana.
rvp2018: Yes that is part he doesnt understand. Kenya gov sold it for 380M for 40% stake. Orange group pumped another 300M cashflow - Kenya gov refused and Orange took their shareholding to 70%.
So we sold it for 680M dollars - and have bought it back for 50M dollars.
And Helios & Orange have cleaned it up - it's probably operationally profitable.
Soon kenya Treasury will sell it for another 750M dollars.
According to a source quoted by Business Daily Africa, the government exercised its pre-emptive rights after Helios informed it of its intention to leave Telkom. "We bought the shares because the government was afraid Helios was going to sell to an investor that did not share the same vision with us in the turnaround of Telkom Kenya," the source said.
Insane move!!! It's like selling a dying cow at an extremely huge price. 7 folds of profit is something else. That's a mega jackpot win. Either way, there will be no point of break even. We just need to make it a profit-accruing investment; better than before... For the greater good.
rvp2018: Ghana is in bad place.Hyperinflation has kicked in; Only IMF stepping in with their loan as soon as possible will save them; by xmas we are looking at 30 cedis to a dollar; a collapsed formal economy;
rvp2018: You cant even do the barest minimum of research. Helios - UK fund - not even Nigeria made boneheaded investment. Kenya has more PE/Venture funds than Nigeria.
I have no problem with Helios - I just have a problem with their bone-headed decision to invest in Telkom.
Their investment in Equity was genius. In 2007 they invested ($120.2 million) for 25% stake. In 2015 - they sold it for four times the amount - 500M - about 250M dollars for 12.5% stake to Norfund. The Norwegian still hold that 12.5% of Equity Group - brilliant japs.
Now the Nigerian-Britons - made boneheaded decision - took 600M dollars - gave it to Orange group for 70 percent of bankrupt company whose liabilities far exceed it's asset.
Now they have sold to Kenya gov for 50m dollars - that is height of stupidity and desperation.
We can juxtapose the epitome of Equity's genius move with helios's dumb move.
JamaicanRum: You have to understand that it's the political class that is to blame for all their misfortunes. Only problem is that the populace is hellbent on defending this same system and pretending to outside world that everything's fine while it's not.
Agreed. They should get prone to facts. Facts should be their daily bread. Living in denial and chest beating with this "Giant of Africa " fictitious recital should be stopped.
And yes, focus on the agenda. Don't allow distraction from zombies purporting you to be me to interfere with your train of thought.
samorobo: You must either be high on early morning urine or you simply do opt know how to surf the internet for the information you need.
Now go try again, this time pay scrupulous attention taahira.
I told you to reduce g@nja, your highness- . Be creative and stop copying and pasting back what I'm feeding you.
Lemme help you:
You're constructing 1343km SGR in segments. You can't raise enough debt to handle it once.
Abuja - kaduna was the first segment, 187km. ..... Go and read more. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagos%E2%80%93Kano_Standard_Gauge_Railway#:~:text=The%20Lagos%E2%80%93Kano%20Standard%20Gauge,railway%20under%20construction%20in%20Nigeria.
samorobo: Awwwwwn, see this hopeless full. Actually it took 2.5 years to build 3 lines
Abuja - kaduna Lagos- Ibadan Warri -it’akpe.
Abd about two more line are still under construction as we speak. Go figure idiot and while at it pls sort out your Chinese fine or default again and get slapped with another bill. That Chinese Ponzi scheme or a rail will never break even. It’s will keep recounting failures like your W until it’s finally seized and controlled from Beijing
My lady, reduce g@nja. It will help your brain organs to steer clear from lies.
Abuja -kaduna is 187km. Its construction started in 2011 finished in 2016 - 5yrs.
Lagos - Ibadan is a mere 156km. Construction started in 2012 and finished in 2018 --- that is 6yrs.
Warri - itakpe is a non-existence utility. Don't lie.
Kazikazi: The amount of foolishness u slum dwellers possess is unimaginable
At first a slum dweller posted sand dunes from your northern desert, you boasted about it as a natural beauty. Minutes later I posted a calm volcano which is so beautiful to the eyes, since u don't have it you now call that a calamity!
But your desert with all those stupid dust isn't a calamity? Is that not a curse? How long should I teach you fellaz? How long should I teach? Bastards
You are oozing Hot air - Nonsense. Volcanoes spew hot, dangerous gases, ash, lava, and rock that are powerfully destructive. People have died from volcanic blasts. Volcanic eruptions can result in additional threats to health, such as floods, mudslides, power outages, drinking water contamination, and wildfires.
Show us the aftermath of volcanic eruption, not this nonsense. dunes are beautiful, they attract tourists.
Kazikazi: comparing kenya with TZ is a joke. Son,are u having this stuff? Answer me son
lengai volcano,Tanzania. ..
Don't think like a two year old. There is no beauty in calamities. Mount Longonot, Mt. kenya, and many more were all active volcanic mountains - (only good for geographers and scientists but not for the country and any human,) luckily, they are now dormant. Just like floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis; Calamities are more detrimental and catastrophic to human beings' lifestyles.
samorobo: Are you still doubting if this guy is shma ; D Dumbass n*gga
Little brains are bound to make countless wrong guesses. they don't have the psychological charisma to discern the undertone and tell the actual moniker.
That is a gift only for me and the few gifted. Any high-rated chess player will understand this.
Another 589km masterclass rail infrastructure that took only 4 and a half years to be completed. China Communications Construction Company, the project kicked off in December 2014, and was completed two and a half years ahead of schedule. It was officially opened in May 2017. The SGR was shortlisted by American engineering magazine Engineering News-Record as the world’s best railway project in 2018.
Each SGR freight train has a capacity of 4,000 tons and can carry 108 TEUs. Their maximum speed is 80 kilometers per hour. Each passenger train can carry 1,096 people and the maximum speed is 120 kilometers per hour. By June 30, 2019, the SGR had transported 3 million passengers and 5 million tons of freight in 761 days of safe operation. At present, the SGR operates 4 passenger trains and 14 freight trains daily, with the average occupancy rate of the passenger trains being over 90 percent.
More than 300 local enterprises and 1,200 local suppliers participated in the construction of the SGR, together creating more than 46,000 direct and indirect jobs. More than 90 percent of the employees are locals. The project has also trained 5,000 local person

Ati failed terribly, you must be high on some luo drugs .The Lagos BRT achieved socio-economic, environmental and public health success, feasibility, as well as cost-effectiveness by starting small in line with the capacity of public and private actors involved. Within the first one hundred days, the BRT led system had carried over 9.7 million passengers. same goes to DAR BRT systems In TZ alone, the advent of BRT systems has lead to so many accompanying PROJECTS
Don't ever post these things. Especially the last project. You started constructing your blue rail system in 2011, 11yrs ago. Yet still no signs of completion. A mere 27km of rail infrastructure (electric or not) should not go past 2yrs. This is a clear indication of a failed state. A zoo. We did expressway in less than 1.5 yrs. Expressway is more complex, expensive, and labor-intensive than the $1.2B stretch of a rail line. This documentary was reliesed in 2020, two yrs ago before the expressway break its ground.
