You don't need to open any special account to purchase fgn bond (secondary market) from Stanbic. Open the normal current or savings account and any time you want to buy the bond, send a mail to your account officer indicating the tenor you want. He would forward the coupon and yield of the available tenors to you to consider. Your account will be debited accordingly. I have been doing this for some time
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by shogbenga: 8:53am On Sep 17, 2019
It is not advisable to be stating amounts on a public forum. It has been repeated several times on here. Please be cautious. You can make your point without that.

To your question, bonds tend to have higher yield because of their longer tenor. However, because it is difficult to predict what inflation will be over the course of the 10 or 20 or 30 years tenor, it just be might be better to invest in tbills (a year tenor) and keep rolling over. That way, you can always re-evaluate every year what makes sense.
Thanks for your comments. I mentioned the figure because I believe the advice you will give will be dependent on the figure available for investment. Thanks

Awesomej, ernie4life and other gurus....I asked this question in another thread but since this deals with bond, I need your guidance......I am selling a property and I expect about close to 20m from the transaction. Selling because of tenant issue, maintenance etc.
Kindly advise on which to invest the money on between TB and Bond. I am ready to go long term as far as 20 years considering the proceed is from a property. Which one will give higher returns. Thanks

Good day Gurus, pls I need your advice. I am selling a property and I expect about 18m from the transaction. Selling because of tenant issue. In fact, deposit has been made by the buyer.
Kindly advise on which to invest the money on between TB and Bond. I am ready to go long term as far as 20 years considering the proceed is from a property. Which one will give higher returns. Thanks

awesomeJ:
Bonds are kinda sold in units with each unit having a face value.
so if you buy a 15% APR 2023 FGN bond with 10m at its original price, you'd be having 100,000 units of the bond, and since the coupon is 15%, your annual interest would be 1.5m

Now when you buy at the secondary market, you often don't buy at the original unit price. You may get to buy at say N90 per unit, which implies that you'd only be paying 9m to get thesame 100,000 units.

But at the end of the year, both you who bought at 9m and the other person that bought at 10m, you'd each get 1.5m as interest, because you hold the same number of units. But while his own yield is 15%(1.5m on 10m input), yours is 16.67%(1.5m on 9m input)

So coupon rate indicates the rate at which interest is paid on a bond based on its face value, while yield indicates the actual rate of returns to an investor.

The coupon rate is always indicated in the name of most bonds, and it doesn't change throughout the lifetime of the bond.

Only changes in purchase prices bring about changes in yields to bond investors.

Bonds bought at prices below their face values have higher yields, and vice versa.

Kindly ask for any further clarification if....
thanks AwesomejErnie4life and other gurus for the insights. Meanwhile I need some clarification. Does it mean that the Yield should serve as reference point in determining which coupon gives the highest return. Meaning that one should go for coupon with the highest yield viz a viz the tenor. Thanks

I'm curious. You bought a bond without asking this questionhuh
It would appear you didn't really understand what you were getting into.
I had an idea. I was told the coupon and the yield (which was higher) and I immediately calculated what should be due to me but when I received the certificate, it was only the coupon that was quoted. So I wanted to be sure to clear my doubt

PropertiesRe: Processes Involved In Acquiring & Developing Land In Lagos Government Scheme by shogbenga: 2:36pm On Mar 22, 2019
I advise that prospective subscribers should thread carefully with buying land from Lagos State government. I paid for IGBOGBO scheme since 2009, till this moment, no allocation. 4 years ago, I applied for refund. As I type this comment, the government has not done anything. A lot of us are victims. For me it's easier to buy from estates developers than from Lagos government. In fact, I will rather buy from omonile than from Lagos government.

shocked shocked

This man is Nigeria's worst president. He is the grandfather of corruption. Almost all the looting techniques being used to loot our wealth today were invented during his regime and many were by him and his deputy. He was directly involved in many scandals including haliburton scandal, rural electrification scandal and the third term agenda in which members of the senate where given ghana-must-go bags filled with millions of hard cash.

He even used his wife Stella for rituals and slept with his son's wife......Obasanjo is evil and Nigeria wont progress if people like him are celebrated.
you will just die for unnecessary beef... God has elevated him. You better keep your mouth shut. He used his wife for ritual... You must have performed the ritual and also part of it
TV/MoviesRe: "The Wedding Party 2" Review: 26 Key Points Of The Movie By Shola Thompson by shogbenga: 10:36pm On Dec 24, 2017
Waste of money. I was at silverbird jabi mall Abuja yesterday to watch with my family. Terrible movie. The Johnson's would have done better. Disjointed movie. The story line was terrible. I didn't know what the producer intended to achieve. They just wanted to produce a movie. Travelling to Dubai to shoot the movie was a waste

Hi everyone, I observed that everybody on this forum purchases Tb from banks and no one has recommended the purchase of Tb from financial /discount houses like Afrinvest for instance. Is there any reason for this. Thanks
