The assumed higher number of unmarried women can be attributed to several sociocultural, economic, and demographic factors. Nigerian men face economic pressures that delay their ability to get married while women in their age bracket are crying out for a husband.
Not only that, as more Nigerian women pursue higher education and career opportunities, some choose to delay marriage to focus on their personal and professional growth. This shift can extend the period women remain single or lead to selective criteria for choosing a partner.

Some women may also prefer to remain single till they find a suitable partner, rather than marry solely for social pressure.However, this decision often comes at a price...they get old and undesirable and often end up becoming second, third or 4th wives!
High migration rate among Nigerian men also creates a gender imbalance in certain age groups, as men may find partners abroad or focus on establishing themselves in their new countries before considering marriage. Men are also more likely to remarry after divorce or widowhood, whereas women may face social or familial discouragement from remarrying. This trend also adds to the number of unmarried women, especially in older age groups. These factors, combined with the complexity of marriage dynamics in a rapidly evolving society, contribute to a noticeable number of unmarried women in Nigeria.

Is this one aware that there are more men than women in Nigeria? Why do some people think there is a higher ratio of women to men in Nigeria when it's not true? Ignorance or stupidity? According to world bank, UN women, country meters and our very own National bureau of statistics, women are less than 50% of the country's population at about 49.4%! So, what happens to the excess men when some greedy men marry more than one wife? God forbid 2 wives!

As a matter of urgency the government needs to pass a law which makes it mandatory for men who are financial capable to marry at least 2 wives each
