If Ibori is a thief then Tinubu is an armed robber |
CrtlAltDel:The major calamity plaguing Nigeria and Nigerians is both their govt and secuirty personnel. The Nigerian security outfits kill more Nigerians yearly than any natural disaster |
Reminds me of that billioniare Elelmule who was snubbed by Buhari when he went along with the CBN governor to see Buhari in the US. A week later, Tony was invited on his personal capacity be a participant in a US-AFRICA economic summit held in Nairobi. Buhari is only relevant as long as he remains President. Remove him from office and watch and see fow he will fade into obscurity within a month. Nnamdi Kanu has more influence than Buhari since the Buhari's own is tied to the office he occupies. |

Rationale behind Decree 4 What was the motive of Decree No. 4? Why was such a dreadful law enacted? One possible reason was to stave off adverse criticism of the government, especially criticism that could suggest that Major General Buhari, the Head of State, or any member of his cabinet was corrupt. Buhari was aware of the rumour that spread when he came to power after toppling the government of President Shehu Shagari that he was corrupt just like the civilian politicians he had overthrown. It was alleged that he corruptly enriched himself when he was a state military governor and also knew about the disappearance of 2.8 billion naira in oil revenue allegedly missing when he was the federal minister for petroleum. Buhari's awareness of the rumour and his concern about the effect of the rumour regarding the 2.8 billion naira oil money scandal, could be seen from his reference to the scandal during his first interview as Head of State. During that interview, Buhari robustly defended his dealings as .oil minister. He said that a section of the press was merely crying wolf over the issue, and reiterated that no money was lost. He said: "If there was no judicial inquiry in 1979 when I was in the U.S. War College, I would have been brought up and lynched because someone said that 2.8 billion naira was missing in a place I was for three and a half years, and where I quarreled with friends and everybody because they thought there was so much money, but I refused them access to it. Somebody just got up one day and said money was missing. . . But every body wanted to believe we stole that money" {National Concord, 1984). The Head of State certainly had little or no doubt that someone might insinuate in the press that he was corrupt, especially when memories were still fresh of press insinuation that former Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed was corrupt. In that instance, a university law lecturer who was also the editor-in-chief of a news magazine, accused the former Head of State of corruptly enriching himself prior to coming to power. Major General Buhari's concern that someone might make similar insinuation in the press about him, and/or members of the cabinet, became more apparent as the fleeing politicians he deposed from office alleged that the in-coming military rulers were as corrupt as the civilians they overthrew. |
Decree 4 Convictions could NOT be appealed The law also provided that offending journalists and publishers be tried by a military tribunal composed of three members of the armed forces and a serving or retired High Court judge. The tribunal's ruling could not be appealed in any court. Section 8 of the press law specified punishments for offenders, and provided for a prison term of up to two years without the option of a fine. In the case of news media corporations, the decree provided for a fine of not less than 10,000 naira (Ogbondah, 1986). |
The law also conferred on the Head of State the power to ban a newspaper and to revoke the license of a wireless telegraph station in any part of the federation if such action was construed to be in the interest of the nation. Section 2, sub-sections (i) and (ii) of the law provided that: Where the Head of the Federal Military Government is satisfied that the unrestricted circulation in Nigeria of a newspaper is or may be detrimental to the interest of the federation or any part thereof, he may by order published in the Gazette, prohibit the circulation in the federation or in any part thereof, as the case may require, of that newspaper; and, unless any other period is prescribed in the code, the prohibition shall continue for a period of twelve months unless sooner revoked or extended, as the case may require. Where the Head of the Federal Military Government is satisfied that the unrestricted existence in Nigeria of any wireless telegraphy station is detrimental to the interest of the federation or any part thereof, he may by an order published in the Gazette (a) revoke the license to such wireless telegraphy station under the provisions of the Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1961; or (b) order the closure or forfeiture to the Federal Military Government, as the case may be, of the wireless telegraphy station concerned (Gazette 1984). |
Drafted on March 29,1984, Decree No. 4 was the most dreaded, most repressive and the last press law enacted in Nigeria. It was promulgated during the military regime of Major General Buhari which did not take kindly to press criticisms. The law was drafted to punish authors of false statements and reports that exposed the Buhari administration and or its officials to ridicule or contempt. Section 1, sub-sections (i), (ii) and (iii) of the law - the most formidable section - provided that: Any person who publishes in any form, whether written or otherwise, any message, rumour, report or statement, being a message, rumour, statement or report which is false in any material particular or which brings or is calculated to bring the Federal Military Government or the Government of a state or public officer to ridicule or disrepute, shall be guilty of an offence under this Decree. Any station for wireless telegraphy which conveys or transmits any sound or visual message, rumour, report or statement, being a message, rumour, report or statement which is false in any material particular or which brings or is calculated to bring the Federal Government or the Government of a state or a public officer to ridicule or disrepute, shall be guilty of an offence under this Decree. It shall be an offence under this Decree for a newspaper or wireless telegraphy station in Nigeria to publish or transmit any message, rumour, report or statement which is false in any material particular stating that any public officer has in any manner been engaged in corrupt practices or has in any manner comiptly enriched himself or any other person {Gazette, 1984). |
yinkuscious:That saying is not true. Charitable deeds should begin outside your home |
The greatest hypocrites are not those attention seeking yeybrities who use trending topics to showcase themselves but rather we should ask where are those in power who are quick to pass condolence messages to foreign nations going through one form of disaster or threat but feign ignorance when it happens under their roof. |
I am of course speaking of the political gangsters and cabal cult of financiers and elites that make up the tyranny known as the Federal Govt of Nigeria - a modern day plantation; an extension of the City of London and their banksters. The call for restructuring has been greeted almost unanimously with a negative response by these same set of gangsters that have held the Nation since 1966! Although they can be forgiven for their geriatric related nostalgia as most old people are naturally not to quick to accept changes, we must remind ourselves that these so-called elites established the Plantation Order when they were young men. To take away the powers they wield will not only be taking food from their table but also bringing a close to their decadent reign. Our heroes past? More like our slavers' quest. This generation is lazy. It isn't our fault. We have been whipped into line for too long that taking a contrary step without the nods of our so called elders is tantamount to treason. This is the tyranny we suffer in this generation - a generation of contented cowards and willing slaves. The first step to escape this Prison is to free ourselves of being cowards and to rally against our jailers. Prison Break anyone? In prisons across the world and since their inception there are more prisoners who have accepted their fate and those who have also embraced their internment for whatever paltry benefits they benefit behind those gray walls. No matter the amount of regimented life the Prison warden introduces to keep the Prisoners reminded of their status, it goes without saying that a Prisoner will first have to accept his or her status as an inmate. This is why you hardly hear of Prison riots by all prisoners in a given institution coming together to plan an escape. They will rather riot for better feeding. Pathetic. This is what the average Nigerian youth has become, a prisoner of his own cowardice. |
There is no such thing as a world without the consequences of tyranny. Tyrants are everywhere, always. There are little tyrants in our everyday lives, and big tyrants that pull strings from behind the curtains and from the darker places. There are people reading this article right now that think they are liberty-minded, but act like tyrants towards those around them. The greatest misnomer is putting "Progressives" in the same sentence with individuals and tin gods like Tinubu. This by far is one of the most complexing paradoxical anomalies that have spread like wildfire and turned a once truly liberal minded and progressively tuned people to eternal enslavement. There are people who think they are slaves when one simple choice or action could easily make them free. There are people who seek to relinquish their God given and equated rights to tyranny and seek to supplant it....with an even greater tyranny of entitlement and collectivism/socialism. And, there are people who think freedom means freedom for them, but not for others. The point is, we are forever dealing with tyranny, and many of us are forever working to topple it. As long as we are able to pursue that goal, we are still free. The true slaves are those that have given up completely out of laziness or fear. Tyranny is always present, after all; why take a bath today when you are just going to end up soiled again tomorrow? |
MyNewJackeT:Obama is the combination of a sleazy used car salesman; an ambulance chasing Lawyer; a black church Preacher and Al Sharpton all rolled into one nigga |
SalamRushdie:That nigga will scam his Hollywood and Silicon valley friends for Houston. |
The liberal elites and their bourgeois underling minions who have forver claimed to want to save the planet and everything in it are not being soc charitable to Houston in her time of need and the reason being that Texas is a big RED Conservative state. Charity just went Partisan So don't expect Bill Gates and that Jew boy wonder of facebook or Hollywood heavy weights to bring out their wallets. Maybe if they get Hillary and Bill to raise some cash through her crooked foundation, the useful idiots will bring out some cash and maybe just maybe Clinton will hand over 5% of what she and her husband can raise to the victims of this disaster. Fingers crossed on the last statement. |
I guess the Clinton Crime Syndicate will not be allowed to open up another of their dubious charity programs in Houston just as they did in Haiti |
To be offended by what someone else says is your choice, as you were never obligated by anyone or society to care what other people thank or say and also for the fun fact that you were never under a physical injury over some one's opinion. Information merely passed from their minds to yours. To state that you are offended means that you wish the person hadn't said those words you found so offensive and you inadvertently are sending a message through your apparent and obvious displeasure that you insist on those same words never to be uttered ever again in future. To be offended by mere words makes you believe that you have some sort of right to dictate not only what people can or can't communicate, but what they can and can't think! To be offended is to take the first step in being a totalitarian megalomaniac. It is thus no brainer to see the same classless mor0ns in the APC and their horde of zombies using a fake war on "fake news" and what they term as "Hate Speech" as an excuse to clampdown on any dissenting opinion and critique of their hopelessly inept Buhari. If you are offended by contrary opinion then you are as empty and brainless as the idiots that you elevated to rule you. |
