And finally the most complete transcript of the full remarks of Pope Francis on the plane this morning returning from Rio comes from a couple of sources. The first question was: Holiness, there was news published about the intimacy of Monsignor Ricci, how will you address this issue and how does His Holiness intend to address the whole issue of the "gay lobby"? Vatican reporter John Allen gives this transcript of the Pope’s remarks: The Ricca Case “I did what canon law requires, which is to conduct a preliminary investigation. We didn’t find anything to confirm the things he was accused of, there was nothing … I’d like to add that many times we seem to seek out the sins of somebody’s youth and publish them. We’re not talking about crimes, which are something else. The abuse of minors, for instance, is a crime. But one can sin and then convert, and the Lord both forgives and forgets. We don’t have the right to refuse to forget … it’s dangerous. The theology of sin is important. St. Peter committed one of the greatest sins, denying Christ, and yet they made him pope! Think about that.” Gay Lobby “There’s a lot of talk about the gay lobby, but I’ve never seen it on the Vatican ID card!” “When I meet a gay person, I have to distinguish between their being gay and being part of a lobby. If they accept the Lord and have good will, who am I to judge them? They shouldn’t be marginalized. The tendency [to homosexuality] is not the problem … they’re our brothers.” One final add on to the pope’s gay lobby remarks and was provided by the BBC: “The problem is lobbying by this orientation, or lobbies of greedy people, political lobbies, Masonic lobbies, so many lobbies. This is the worse problem." Now what is wrong with what he said ![]() ![]() ?further read: http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/what-pope-francis-could-not-mean-regarding-gay-priests-and-what-he-actually |
pet_saint: Nice justification there. I presume you are a catholic. we all are waiting for the day when a pro gay pope will be elected, at least that pope can forgive their sins and they will become full brothers able to take the sacrament. we await the man of lawlessness and the beast that will give him powerYes i am a catholic and proud of it, I am also praying that the day when a pro gay pope will be elected will never come; but even at that Gay people have never been stoped from recieving the sacraments if they lead chaste lives, the catholic church has always said having homosexual tendencies is not a sin, it is a temptation and we all face temptation, but the sin is in given in to the homosexual act. this is a long read but for all those who are interested, it presents the real scenero of what made the pope made such a statement and what it really means The press is buzzing right now with claims that Pope Francis has taken a sharply different line than his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, on the subject of homosexuality. Some are suggesting that the new pope has announced that "gay is okay." What did Pope Francis really say, and how unusual is it? Here are 7 things to know and share . . . 1) Where did Pope Francis make these remarks? He made them during an 80-minute interview with reporters aboard the plane returning from World Youth Day in Brazil. 2) What was he asked that led to the remarks? We may not know exactly what the question was until a transcript is released, but apparently, he was asked about the reputed "gay lobby" at the Vatican. More info on that here. 3) What exactly did he say? According to the best current accounts, he said: There's a lot of talk about the gay lobby, but I've never seen it on the Vatican ID card. When I meet a gay person, I have to distinguish between their being gay and being part of a lobby. If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them? They shouldn't be marginalized. The tendency [i.e., same-sex attraction] is not the problem ... they're our brothers. 4) What does this mean? The first part of the statement seems to downplay the who "gay lobby" issue. He's not denying that there is one there, but he's suggesting that the talk is somewhat overblown. He then explains his approach to dealing with gay people: He distinguishes between their "being gay" and "being part of a lobby." What he means by "being gay" is something he further unpacks. In ordinary parlance, "being gay" can mean anything from having same-sex attraction to leading an active "gay lifestyle" to endorsing and advocating a pro-homosexual ideology. The last of these would be functioning as a member of a lobby, and he indicates that this is not what he is talking about. He then describes those he is talking about as people who "accept the Lord and have goodwill." He then seems to further clarify who he is talking about by saying that "The tendency [i.e., same-sex attraction] is not the problem ... they're our brothers." Taking his statements together, what emerges is a portrait of individuals who have same-sex attraction but who nevertheless accept the Lord and have goodwill, as opposed to working to advance a pro-homosexual ideology. This would definitely include people with same-sex attraction who strive to live chastely (even if they sometimes fail). It also, possibly, could include individuals who are not living chastely but who are not actively lobbying a homosexual agenda. It would be nice if he'd said a little more to clarify the point further. 5) What does he say about people in this category? He says that he does not think he is in a position to judge them and that they should not be marginalized. He also says that the mere tendency (same-sex attraction) "is not the problem," and that "they're our brothers." 6) How new is this? Not very. Disclaiming a right to "judge" others is something that goes back to Jesus. It does not mean a failure to recognize the moral character of others' actions, however. One can form a moral appraisal that what someone else is doing is wrong (Jesus obviously does not forbid that) without having or showing malice toward them. The statement that they should not be marginalized is similarly in keeping with the Holy See's approach to the subject, as 1992 Vatican document On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons. The statement that same-sex attraction "is not the problem," when understood correctly, is also nothing new. "The problem," as Pope Francis seems to here be understanding it, is going beyond merely having a sinful tendency--a temptation to which one is subject. Obviously, temptations are problem, but if we resist temptation we do not sin. "The problem," on this understanding, is giving into the temptation and sinning or--worse--building an ideology around the sin and trying to advocate the sin. Finally, the statement that "they're our brothers" is also no novelty. Christians, like everyone, have struggled with every sort of temptation all through history. Same-sex attraction is just one temptation among numerous others, and the fact that a person suffers from this temptation no more deprives him of the status of being a brother in Christ than any other temptation does. Absolve your sins on Twitter Pope Francis To Forgive Twitter Followers' Sins Online This were some of the funny headlines many of us saw last week on the social media sites. But did the pope really say he would forgive sins through twitter? What did he really say? While I know many People would never give the catholic church a chance to defend herself but I would appreciate if for the purpose of these particular issue many of you settle down and understand this. The Pope didn’t say sins would be forgiven through twitter, he said Indulgence could be obtained. The issue now WHAT IS INDULGENCE ?, This I would try to explain in simple termsCatholics believe when we commit sin 2 things happen, we stop the work of divine grace in our souls and then merit hell in case of a mortal sin or at least deserve a certain kind of consequence for our sins, when we repent truthfully and confess this sins, God forgives us but then the sin still leaves a little attachment which as Catholics we believe we must through prayer fasting or other works of charity perform to overcome the attachment to this sin, if we die before we are able to effect a perfect detachment from the attachment to sin, we believe Purgatory is a state in which the remaining attachment to this sin will be removed, the church teaches based on the words of Jesus to the first Bishops, the apostles “whatever you bind on earth shall be bind in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” that By granting indulgence, the church exercises this power to her members who truly have repented of their sins but might not have fully achieved a perfect detachment from their sins to be relieved of the punishment which in this case is time spent in purgatory if they show a genuine desire to want to gain this benefit, the truth is, even if the pope approves the conditions for this indulgence individuals have to genuinely desire it by certain actions which they devotedly do. One of such activities is a pilgrimage to a holy site or event like the world youth day and the Pope has in this case declared that if you genuinely had intended to attend the world youth day event but due to legimate reasons could not attend you can still gain the indulgence by following the programmes with the same devotion as if you were in the event. This programs can be followed either through television or the social networks he never mentioned twitter. Here is the link from the Vaticanhttp://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/tribunals/apost_penit/documents/rc_trib_appen_doc_20130709_decreto-indulgenze-gmg_en.html Pls I would entertain genuine questions on areas you need clarification |

There is a trend I have noticed in the religious thread a very dangerous one for us catholics, and one we have been ignorant about or maybe indifferent. Never has the church called herself "Roman catholic", the term roman catholic is used only in reference to cardinals and that relates to thier duties as parish priest of the churches in Rome, the term Roman catholic is recent and first appeared "in the English language at the beginning of the 17th century, to differentiate specific groups of Christians in communion with the Pope from others" (wikepedia)it was started by the heretical Anglican sect to give credence to their false religion there is only one catholic church and Her head is the Pope, the church has never called herself Roman catholic, there is nothing like Roman catholic in any church document, let us not allow anybody redefine for us what has been known from time. muami: The fact that the FALSE statement made by Ogbeche77 has so far received 17 'likes' says a lot about the level of intelligence and knowledge of the people who are always looking for what to criticize about pastors.your poor understanding of the catholic church is so evident and your hatred for it wont allow youu clarify things, it is most unfair and a big lie to say ,majority of catholics including bishops and priest go against church teachings a few do and the church is xlear that anybody who goes againt church teaching has excommunicated himself excepts he repents even though they still claim to be catholics and as for your claim of pope having two jets this article says it all http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/vatican-has-no-money-or-space-for-private-plane-says-priest/ |
Ibro Yaya: ^^^ Big Fat lie!!http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/vatican-has-no-money-or-space-for-private-plane-says-priest/ |
Symphony007: my dear, don't mislead people to defend the indefensible. Sherpard one is not even the name of a particular plane. Sherpard one is the call sign for any plane the pope is flying in. That is what air traffic controllers call anyplane the pope is one. And when he pope travels, the vatican hires an air italia plane for him and his staff. It's a commercial plane with the pope having his own seat. So my dear, there is no plane like "sherpard one" it's a call sign. So even if the pope is in a carton that is flying, it will be reffered to as "sherpard one".Abeg tell them ooooo, i dont know why people just come on line and say rubbish without verifying |
muami: Firstly, the pope 'owns' a private jet the same way Pastor Adeboye 'owns' a private jet. No jet is registered in their name. However, they both have jets that is available for their use whenever they want it.its unfortunate you hold on to your biased view on the catholic church isnt it a christian character to be fair and sincere in our approach to truth, the popes position in the world cant be compared to that of Pastor Adeboye, so his humility is something we must not stop commending and as for your lies on the pope having a private jet this article says it all http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/vatican-has-no-money-or-space-for-private-plane-says-priest/ |
Dee60: There is possibly not a lot of demand for the pope to travel around. A church like the Redeemed Christian Church of God is massively evangelizing to countries. There are thousands of churches around the world who would wish and who are inviting the GO of RCCG and that is the difference. Let God be the judge in this matter. The GO of RCCG and the church has been a blessing to Nigeria's image in more than 100 countries, yet we never learn to appreciate our own. Let god be the judge. Let us not compare people. Round pegs do not fit into square holes!more contries in the world demand the presence of the pope than they demand the presence of all pentecostal pastors join togeda after all majority of worshipers in those churches are Nigerians but the pope is a universal figure |
