Autos / Re: Gear Not Engaging When Headlights Are On by shupsyBaba(m): 10:11am On May 03, 2017
I figured it out.

One yeye bus driver hit me and broke d rear light. I didnt want to buy another one again, so I asked this plastic repair guy to help me "cut" another plastic in place of the broken brake light. We had 2 remove d whole lamp 2 fix it.

On completion we fixed d harness upside down. Strangely it fit perfectly (wrong side).
It was this evening I noticed that when I pressed the brake - trafficator came on, reverse = parking, etc - all mixed up sha.

So just unscrewed and fixed it well and am now good to go...

Thanks all but o witch craft here
Autos / Gear Not Engaging When Headlights Are On by shupsyBaba(m): 11:33am On May 02, 2017
Good day,

I am currently experiencing a challenge with a Hyundai Tucson, 2006 model.

Once the headlights of the car is on, the gear simply does not engage.
To elaborate a bit...

Say am driving home at night, and I have the headlights on. Now I stop briefly to pick up an item
I just have to put the gear in Park (P) without turning off the engine.
Now when am done, one would normally expect that I shld switch to D and drive off,
but if I switch the gear to D, the indicator on the dash board remains on P yet the gear lever is on D.
Same thing if I switch to any other position be it R, or N - nothing happens. The gear does not engage
and the car does not move, but revs.

If I switch off the headlights, the gear immediately engages - goes into D or R or whatever I put it in.

So the problem occurs only when the headlights are on, when they are off, the gear works selects perfectly.

BTW I have not visited any mechanic, nor have I done any repair works recently, it just started suddenly 2 days back.

I would appreciate you expert opinions and input, because I really cant understand what the headlights have got to do with the transmission.

Thanks
Technology Market / Re: Refurbished 12volts 200AH Deep Cycle Inverter Batteries @ 30,000 Naira Only by shupsyBaba(m): 6:05pm On Apr 16, 2016
Oh Boy!

I don set am up o!

The thing make sense die

At 5:30pm and controller still showing 12.9v charging voltage as in at 5:30PM ooo!!

Ok so detailed feedback for anyone else thinking of going solar.

1. Just call Infoparlour - the guy go help u arrange almost everything and even deliver if u want.

2. COST
a. Panels - depends on size (wattage), mine was 160W, 12V and cost 31K each
b. MPPT Controller - Depends on Amp, which also depends on ur panel
I have 4 panels rated at 7.5Amps each.
They are connected in a series/parallel combo (See details of configuration in previous post) and give 15A total
Cost = 28K for 30A

I chose MPPT over PWM because, MPPT has a unique ability to take any input voltage (from panel) and give the output
required by your battery. This means u can use 24V panels for 12V inverter system with no worries.

c. Cables - Luckily for me I had like 8M of 16mm copper cable lying around from when NEPA changed our wire
(cant even remember why they changed it them). I cut this in half and used it. The higher the size, the less the voltage drop
across the cable over a long distance.

NB Infoparlour, my panels to my controller measures exactly 4.2m - no dey doubt me this man :p

I used another 2M of cable to connect the controller to the batteries - 1M of cable to each terminal

d. Inverter - I have had this before so no cost added

e. Batteries - Got 2 200Ah from Infoparlour @ 66K

f. Installation - Wood (1 plank) + nails (12) + nut, bolts, washer (16) + carpenter charges = 7.5K.

wetin remain sef, ehen bike charges to and fro buying different things like 400 sha

3. SETUP TIME
About 5hrs total

4. OUTPUT
As stated by Infoparlour, my combination can go as high as 40V, I measured 39V around 2PM.
This means that even when no too shine, at all at all, I should be able to get like 15V, which is
more than enough for my 12V system.

Lastly, Infoparlour, the inlets of that solar panel small jo!, I nearly comot the screws while trying to
create more space for the wire to fit, so just went with the option of cutting some of the strands away
and using only like 3 strands.

Also they inlets are too close together, I had to tape round each cable to ensure proper isolation.

What I need now is a breaker to cut off power from the panel.
I have disconnected charging via NEPA (inverter) for now, cos am not too sure of what such
combined charging might cause. Plus no be say NEPA dey even give us light b4 sef.

Thanks again infoparlour - now d flexing can begin....

Infoparlour:

Now to the jamb questions

1. just joining them like normal connection is more than enough, just make sure you avoid the terminals from touching each other, also make sure they are properly taped to avoid future bridge, also note the labels + and - on the panel terminals and make sure your connections are right and corresponds to the + and - going to the charge controller, to avoid damaging your charge controller ( you sabi how much you buy am)

2. following the fact that you claim your cable will be spanning 7 meters(which i doubt) 10mm2 or AWG8 single or double core flex cable is adequate for your system (double core is cheaper) i wont advice you to use anything smaller than that, it will be penny wise, pound foolish to invest that much on panels and now lose wattage because you want to save 3000 naira on cables

3. have you tried unscrewing the screws, the more you unscrew, the bigger the opening becomes, the opening is enough to accommodate a 10mm2 cable and even bigger, if it isn't, (which i seriously doubt) all you need to do is to half your cables at the point of insertion( call me, will explain better on phone.

4.if you cant afford mounting rack, use the wood, but make sure it is constructed in such a way that it secures both it self and the panel from coming and sliding down to avoid your money from going down the drain( i mean that literally)

because nigeria is in the northern hemisphere, it is best to face your panels at 8 degrees south to harness maximum rays from the sun all year round, although this is not feasible in all situation since the orientation of your roof is out of your control, so you might just have to do with what you have

finally it is good you are not jack sparrow with a compass, because what a compass will show you is the magnetic north and not the true north, to know the true north, stand outside in such a way that your right hand side is at the direction of sun rise(east) and your left hand side at the direction of sun set(west), you will be facing the true north while your back is facing true south

your panels should face 8 degrees true south if possible
Technology Market / Re: Refurbished 12volts 200AH Deep Cycle Inverter Batteries @ 30,000 Naira Only by shupsyBaba(m): 7:52am On Apr 16, 2016
@Infoparlour

Thanks for the batteries, panels and controller.
Really appreciate the effort, especially with delivery.
Thanks a lot.

Ok now, we don buy am.
I have plugged in the batteries to the inverter but I still cannot
report on it because like you said I need to charge it first - no NEPA, no FUEL
so me and the thing just dey look ourselves.

On to the solar panels, this is the agreed configuration...

Panel 1 + Panel 2 (In series) = Panel A (320W, 24V, 7.5A)
Panel 3 + Panel 4 (In series) = Panel B (320W, 24V 7.5A)
Panel A + Panel B (In parallel) = Panel C (640W, 24V, 15A)

But I have a few more questions
1. When connecting the panels together, should I just cut off the heads and join together
like normal connection or do I need to use a 2.5mm or 4mm to join them together?

2. From the final panel into the controller - what cable size should I use - 2.5, 4, 6mm?
Considering that its now 24v and with a distance of about 7m.

3. Can you snap a pix of how u connected cables to your solar controller.
The instructions are pretty straight forward but those holes on the controller are so tiny,
I just want to see how you connected yours.

4. Lastly, as I no buy mounting rack and all those things, I intend to use wood (possible coated in tar
to prevent damage from rain), considering that my house is roofed with
Asbestors (https://www.google.com.ng/search?q=asbestos+roofing+sheet&espv=2&biw=1828&bih=859&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwir2v6myJLMAhXJWxoKHaT2CN0QsAQIGQ#imgrc=_)

would the wood b ok? But most importantly at what angle, I remember you saying something like 8 degree south or so.
I no b Jack Sparrow, I no get compass, I only know East & West based on the sun but which side b South that?

Thanks

Good morning

Just read through the entire thread, long read
Great work!

I do have a few request, I was planning on going Solar until
I realized yesterday that my batteries have packed up
(bought them used and have used them for almost three years)
So I need to replace them first, can anyone give me the contact of
a seller of good grade used batteries. 150Ah/180Ah preferably
and the cost.

Not sure if the likes of Ceejay80's Oga Chidi have in stock

2. I would also like a contact of a seller of NOT-TOO-EXPENSIVE
PV panels - 130W - 180W, 12V, mono crystal.

2b. Plus can one mix mono and poly together? That is eg 2 130W mono + 2 150W poly?

3. What is the average cost and brand of a good / recommendable Solar charger,
PWM, yes I know MPPT are the best but unless I can get one for less than
30K I wouldnt bother for now

Thanks, appreciate
Technology Market / Re: Refurbished 12volts 200AH Deep Cycle Inverter Batteries @ 30,000 Naira Only by shupsyBaba(m): 5:52pm On Apr 10, 2016
Nice one!

But I have a question.

If one is planning to run off Solar alone (no PHCN or Gen), where do you get power during the day?
What I mean is:
a. The PV panels charge the batteries during the day via the charge controller
b. To the best of my knowledge it is not possible to charge and discharge a battery at the same time
c. So that means the panels charge the batteries during the day, then the inverter converts the stored energy in the battery to 220V
for use at night
d. How do u get uninterrupted power during the day, if the batteries are being charged?

Thanks

Infoparlour:

am assuming your tv is an LED tv rated 100 watt, am assuming your fans are 70 watt each and the bulbs are 26 watt each.
your total energy requirement is 100+70+70+26+26+26 = 318 watt/hour* 24 =7632 watt.

1 battery has a capacity of 2400watt, 4 batteries is 9600 watts (sufficient)

if you plan on running on solar alone without using PHCN or Generator Power

you need 1500 watt solar panels to give you enough power during the day and still charge your batteries in preparation for night use.

Cost implication
5 nos 300 watt mono crystalline solar panels = 52,000 each *5 = 260,000 naira
refurbished batteries 30,000 x 4 = 120,000 naira (budget atleast 65,000 each if you are buying new batteries)
24v 1.5kva inverter = 47,000 naira
2 nos 24v 30 amps charge controller = 24,000 naira ( or 1 nos 24v 50amps )
16mm or 25mm(depending on distance) flex double core cable = price can only be estimated after site is known.

Note: this estimation is based on the assumption that the tv, fans and light will be on the whole 24 hours in a day and that you will not be using generator or phcn light

if you need further clarification, feel free to call 09090003648

Morning all, complements of the season.

I have used iOs, Android and even BB, and decided to try a WinPhone.
So I got myself a WP - Lumia 730, very nice phone actually.

I have installed a couple of apps from the Windows Store but I have a challenge
with BBM. It is so so so so SLOW, gosh how do you guys use that app.

I get a notification and then I press the icon on the home screen and all I see is the
spinning loading circle.

I close and reopen - now it will go past the loading circle but remain on a white blank
page.

Close again and reopen now I will see the Chat, Feed, Contact ... tabs but no content

Close and open again then start praying and finally it will open.

It opens only to realize that its just a yeye ping but I must say this is the worst BBM
experience I have had. The app is much faster on other platforms

Maybe its me but pls can you guys help or is there a mod or trick or app I have to
install to fix / address this.

Would appreciate your feedback.

Please o! I do not know and am simply asking - I no dey find insult o! Just knowledge
(a bere ona o kin shin na - person wey ask for directions no dey lost)

Billyamin, how have you been?

My PS3 is acting up.

It takes forever to come on after plugging it

When it eventually comes up, it either shows gibberish or just freezes

After unplugging and re-plugging like 10 times, it will finally come up.

It keeps freezing over and over, NFS Run for instance ALWAYS freezes
while loading. Naruto freezes every now and then.

Now when I plug it, it shows that it is powered - Green light but does not show anything on the screen.

I am certain that the HDMI cable is working, cos I tested it with other devices and it worked fine, so it isnt the cable.
I also tried a PS AVI Cable adapter (the one with the Red, Yellow, White), to clear all doubt and I got the same result.

I am totally out of options hence this post.

And yes I bought the PS3 from you guys.

Thanks

Hello all, I greet o!

What i want is simple

I want to be able to watch live EPL matches,
Loads of documentaries, cartoons & possibly movies

I have a strong 4922a decoder someone installed for me but 95% of
the channels are locked with the $ showing

The decoder is connected to two dishes - (60 & 90 i think) Ku not C-band sha.
It picks a few channels on AMOS 5k (all locked of course) and quite a lot on 68.5E Intelsat 20K (mostly
locked also).

The second picks 0.0E (Adom, Africa TV3, 4kids and other funny stations around 12.523(v) 27.000 range).

Now I dont mind paying some amount monthly just not 11K or whatever
ridiculous price "THEY" are charging now and I don't want issues with the LAW,
piracy, hacking and what'snot.

I dont mind DIY, so am ok with instructions and how-to guidelines.

Your kind feedback / advice will be appreciated.

Regards

(I hope posting on 2 threads isn't considered as spamming)

My questions (to any UI PhD graduate or on going) are:

1. How long does it ACTUALLY take - I knw 3 - 4yrs is standard but how long actually?

2. How many supervisor options do I have - how many profs and phd holders does UI have on ground (Comp Sci dept o, not the university in its entirelity)

3. Is there option of part time?

4. Are PhD students expected to take lectures - attend classes and write exam, whether in the first year ire at any point during the program.

Hello people. Pls does any1 use a SGS ( Samsung Galaxy S) cos i d thing is killing me. Its suppose 2 b a 1ghz processor 4 Christ sake and its so slooow and No it isn't full. I have close 2 5gb of free space on internal sd. My sd card is also half empty.

But apps like ORDINARY contact takes like 15seconds 2 open. dats very annoying having 2 wait 4 close 2 15sec b4 u can get a no.

Playing games is a diff story - Launch Plant Vs Zombies and it wld freeze after like 10mins. Asphalt 6 plays 4 like 20mins b4 freezing.

Another very annoying problem is this stupid error of "android.phoneapp has stopped working" I den press force close. Then all form of reception disappears - no signal, no internet - nothing. And this happens after every phone call! After EVERY PHONE CALL!! I mean its a phone na how can phone app b crashing. Mschww

The thing don tire me sef - i looked at d SGS2 and yeah i wasn't 2 wow'd Dual Core processor, 1gb ram yeah yeah am not impressed jo. I need somtin mind blowing any suggestions?

@ aieromon, a feedback.

Firstly u r absolutely correct SS3 & SS10 air the same thing. So my q? 2 dstv wld b y duplicate a channel and waste a slot rather than add a diff 1?

Dstv drifta (usb) 4 use with pc/laptop alone = 10k. Drifta (wifi) 4 pc and ipad/iphone = 16k.
They have 2 tie it 2 an acct immediately b4 even selling it 2 u.

If d premium acct isn't urs then u have 2 com wit d person or get a letter of authorization 4m him.

So off i went 2 comp village 2 get mysef a Nokia + SW-33. That one 2 became long thing - Nobody seemed 2 have a Nokia N86 or N79. I dnt wnt d nu higher end Nokia (x6/n8) cos it doesn't make sense 2 me 2 spend so much dstv alone.
Couldn't even find d SW-33 anywhere sef.
Phones / Re: Nokia Su-33w Tv Receiver Update - Part 2 by shupsyBaba(m): 12:18am On Jan 07, 2012
10ks boss!

Your response was quite helpful in helping make my decision.

I would go with the Drifta - not sure which to buy yet. Yes there r 2 types of Drifta - plain drifta which uses wifi 2 broadcast 2 pc or compatible phones and the Drifta Usb dat only works with a pc/laptop.

SS is a major decider 4 me. And SS3 and SS10 actually show different matches on weekends. + Drifta has SS1 inclusive (well according 2 dstvmobile site)

+ I have a som1 willing 2 give me his premium acct so i wldnt b paying nothing

I dnt think what u typed abt N400 a month in correct, maybe u meant N400/week.

Besides i want 2 try n avoid phone service providers as much as possible - I already have enuf issues with dem when making calls & browsing I no wan add TV also. Besides i dnt like MTN or GLO.

Lastly after d help of google Drifta costs 14700 almost same as d SW 33 so economically / financially drifta makes more sense because
a. I dnt have 2 buy another relatively high end phone (N25k + at the very least)
b. Buy SW 33 receiver @ 15k
c. Activate internet when i want 2 reactivate (@ least N100 weekly recurrent cost)
d. Pay MTN/GLO extra money (after loading credit + activating internet) for TV
e. I wldnt b paying anytin monthly since I have a premium account (which i very much intend 2 capitalize on)

But 10ks again and I hope we have also helped som1 else who is in dis dilemma out.

NB I still very much believe I can get around d TV out / dvb-h issue on mobile phones - maybe another day sha

ceejay and everybody i hail o! Hapi Nu Yr.

Now my questions/inquiries

1. Obviously this dstv mobile thing works - after reading thru part 1, 2 & 3 of this thread.

2. Which is d best now - Dstv drifta (wireless) or Drifta USB. With these devices i can connect my laptop 2 a big screen n watch dstv

If i use d mobile phone approach den no big screen 4 me but

which 1 do u recommend -

Nokia phone + SW 33 receiver
or
Nokia 5330 / N96

3. If i use SW do i still have 2 go thru MTN/GLO?
Abi na like Drifta payment?

4. Ehn how them dey pay 4 Drifta sef? I hope i dnt need a GSM operator also?

5. People seem 2 b complaining abt inability 2 reactivate - has dat been resolved by dem oga MTN/GLO?

6. My oga don gree make i hook up with his dstv (hin dey pay full) so i Shld get ss3 right?

7. Any idea how much d SW 33 receiver goes 4 now and maybe a Nokia N86? And d Dstv drifta i wanna do a cost/benefit analysis.

Thanks o!
