Business / Lessons Learned From Great Ceos by shyhighner1: 9:09am On Jun 10, 2016
The great CEOs are always willing to teach the lessons they have learned. The position of the CEO is the most misconstrued in business organizations. It is generally conceived that the highly coveted position offers double convenience and allows total freedom to make easy decisions. But like the proverbial “shoe”, you don’t know where it pinches until you wear it.

Even though the CEOs can ride on the luxury of delegating their jobs to their subordinates, the most important aspect of their jobs can’t be delegated.

Before I proceed in discussing the lessons all budding CEOs must learn it is necessary to have an understanding of who a CEO really is and to understand what their job description entails.

Who is a CEO?
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the most senior corporate officer of any company.

What are the job descriptions of a CEO?

There is no universal definition or categorization of the roles of a CEO in a company. However, there are some essential responsibilities that CEOs generally carry out in corporate organizations; these responsibilities are mostly set by the board of directors.

Here are some of the responsibilities of the CEOs

Advising and informing the board of director on the company’s activities.
Serving as a link between the board of directors, staffs, and clients.
Overseeing the overall activities of the company and ensuring effective delivery.
Ensuring that the brand name and values are protected.
From the above, it is clear that the position of a CEO is not an easy one, in fact, I will go as far as saying they live like a clock; working all the time. Creating a niche market gives you a special privilege of growing and becoming a trailblazer in your chosen field.

Here are Lessons Learned From Great CEOs

Culture / Moral Story: THE 18th CAMEL by shyhighner1: 3:21pm On Jun 07, 2016
A man who had 17 camels wrote a will for his three children. The will stated that the first child should get half of the 17 camels while the second and third children and should get one-third and one-ninth of the 17 camels respectively.

There lies the problem, how can they possibly divide 17 into half (1/2), one-third (1/3) or one-ninth (1/9)? The problem escalates as the siblings were unable to find a solution.

They decided to consult a wise old man. The wise man listened attentively to the content of the Will, after critically analyzing the will; he brought one camel of his own and added it to the 17, making it 18 camels.
Then he started dividing the camels as stipulated in the will.

1/2 of 18 = 9. Hence, the first child got 9 camels.

1/3rd of 18 = 6. Hence, the second child got 6 camels.

1/9th of 18 = 2. Hence, the third child got 2 camels.

After sharing the camels among the children, there...Read More: http://i-periscope..co.za/2016/06/moral-story-18th-camel.html

Business / 4 Fears You Need To Overcome Before You Start A Business by shyhighner1: 9:08am On Apr 21, 2016
The majority of people will fancy the idea of working for themselves; being their own bosses, having total control of their own lives and making their own decisions freely. As desirable as it is, the entrepreneurial journey is clouded by uncertainty. When the fear of the unknown looms large most people are compelled to settle for the safer option; getting employed and ensuring job security.

“Once you start thinking about financial security, you’re beginning to run the risk of eroding your true self…Once you start thinking about money… I’m not sure you’re going to be able to take the risks you need to take. You want to stay clear of that; let that part, hopefully, take care of itself.”

-Robert Redford

Fear is the reason why many people with great ideas never attempt to start their own businesses. However, the road to success is paved with fear. If you start a business without the required confidence to confront and overcome your fears, the road will be bumpy and rough; you may never arrive at Success bus top.

Take a moment and ask yourself, ‘if all entrepreneurial fears and obstacles are removed, would you rather start a business and be your own boss?

Regardless of the line of business, you are venturing into, there are four inevitable fears you will have to face. These are common to all industries.

LACK OF EXPERIENCE

Having proper knowledge of the market or industry you are venturing into, in addition to having experience in accounting, business management, marketing, taxes among other skills; are major prerequisites for starting a business. It must be noted, however, lack of experience does not automatically mean that your business is bound to fail. It just makes it difficult for you to overcome the hurdles you will encounter in your early startup days; usually within the first or second year.

Instead of consuming yourself with worry and allowing it to take a toll on you or kill your startup idea, you can start by researching and learning online, learning from someone who has been in the business long enough to know the nitty-gritty of the business or talking to your future customers to find out their wants or needs; this will help you understand how they think and spend.

IT TAKES HARDWORK AND DEDICATION

Starting a business is not an easy task. Most startups spend as much as 60-80hrs a week in the early startup days. It’s even worse when you juggle a full-time job while starting your own business. Starting a business is a life-changing decision; one that unbalances your life. The Italian saying that “time is a gentleman” does not apply to early startups.

No kamikaze stunt will save you from the initial hurdles; hard work and dedication are some of the crucial factors that will see you through. You must be able to find your rhythm. Anxiety, stress and sleepless nights will be your regular visitors.

Isn’t it scary to know that after all the hard work and dedication, the business may still fail? You wouldn’t know until you try.

Having an excellent mind, determination, willingness to change your ideas that are not working, the ability to stand up every time you are knocked down and the power to free yourself from the tangled web of mediocrity, are some of the basic prerequisites of a successful startup.

Whether you choose to be a blogger or a web startup, you must be willing to work hard.

Understanding the difference between a blogger and a web startup

A blogger or internet marketer is someone who writes a blog and handles social media marketing activities. A blogger is a sole entrepreneur (Solopreneurs). He or she sets up a blog and solely creates and manages the blog contents; optimizing, aggregating and marketing.

To have a good understanding of what web startup means, let’s take a look at the words separately. The Web or the worldwide web may be described as a channel through which your products or services can be distributed to the consumers. A startup is a term that has been used in the past few years to describe a company that is in the first stage of its operation. These companies are founded by entrepreneurs who see a gap in the market and try to capitalize on it.

So a web startup may be described as newly formed companies that offer a products or services through a website. A Web Startup may consist of the typical organizational structure of power and responsibilities shared between different levels of management. The structure of a startup company is determined by the company’s goals and objectives.

Either you choose to be a blogger or a web startup, you’ll be confronted by so many hurdles at the kick-off of your start-up journey. Startup is an uncertain venture, but offer you an opportunity to generate a good fortune.

If you are looking to make money while being your own boss, you should be thinking of creating a blog already. Starting and growing a blog organically is not an easy task, but one that offers a lot of promises. Although there are no defined rules to succeeding as a blogger, there are best practices that have seen many successful bloggers turned social savvy into 6 figures annual income.

What is the nexus between your needs and the needs of your target customers? These are some of the important questions you should ask yourself before starting a business.

I will assume you already have the required capital. But you must understand that starting a business is not all about the startup capital, it involves among other things: sacrifice, dedication, hard work and proper planning. It is also necessary to have a good managerial skill and a deep understanding of the prospective industry.

Here are 4 steps to follow to make your start-up vision a reality

Step 1: GENERATE AND DEVELOP AN IDEA

Ideation is the toughest part of starting a business. Most business founders have a lot of ideas in their heads, but most of the times, the ideas never see the light of the day. If you are stuck with a lot of new ideas and you are having difficulty choosing the winning one, this easy tip will help you generate and develop a breakthrough idea.

Find your passion: you must bear in mind that starting a business requires hard work and commitment. Passion is the contagious positive energy that will help you drive your business to success. If you develop an idea that you are passionate about you will enjoy every sunset and look forward to every sunrise in your business journey.

YOUR NAME CAN HAVE A RIDICULOUS IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE

Most African parents, especially Nigerians, give their children names with deep spiritual, social and cultural meaning. It is believed that names impact on the life of the bearer, either positively or negatively.

It’s not surprising that most Nigerian parents now give their children names like Victory, Goodluck, Success etc.

This is almost certainly not true in other climes, especially in the western world. If it Is true, Steve Jobs will most certainly be the President of American Job Seekers’ Association while Bill Gates should have been a gate-man in probably Bill Clinton’s house. And “Barrack” Obama? I will leave that to your imagination.

intimacy gadgets On The Increase

Given their supposed puritanical nature, most Nigerian girls will give you the impression that they have never ‘heard’ of intimacy gadgets. Just don’t go and search their cupboards, you may find skeletons.

Many of our society ladies use them, this girl uses it, that ‘innocent’ girl next door uses it. Maybe that explains the increasing surge of intimacy gadget shops in Nigeria. Who patronizes them?

Sports / 4 Problems Zinadine Zidane Will Face As Real Madrid Coach by shyhighner1: 1:09pm On Feb 28, 2016

Zinedine Zidane was appointed the new manager of the spainish capital club Real Madrid following the sacking of Rafael Benitez.

The question hanging on everyone’s lips is how long will it take Florentino Perez to call the next press conference? Zidane’s job the subject of course. Florentino Perez comes off like a little brat who always wants new toys. He gets the toys but time ticks fast for his next demand for new ones.

Zidane becomes the 11th Real Madrid coach in 12 years under Perez. The three times FIFA world player of the Year and World Cup winner faces a herculean task to take the Los Blancos - who are currently positioned 3rd on the League Table - back to the winning ways.

5 Problems Zinadine Zidane MAY Face As Real Madrid’s Coach

Lack Of Experience

Coaching Real Madrid is like walking on a banana peel; it's not a question of IF you will fall over, it's a question of WHEN. Florentino and Real Madrid is all about the bass, they don't do treble. You can win 20 straight matches and everything is fine but losing one or two games may put your job on the line. In Madrid, Zidane is guaranteed to have some of the most talented footballers in A team. He will be caught between balancing ego and maximizing the team's potential. Luckily, Zidane has a friendly relationship with most of the big guns in the team. But its left to be seen if that will translate to collective will to achieve specific goal’s.

EL-CLASSICO PRESSURE AND THE BATTLE AGAINST THE BIG TEAMS

The Classico games have always been one of the deciding factors of the life span of A Real Madrid coach. Recall that Bernard Schauster's famous comment that inspired his sack? "winning El Classico is impossible.'' For over a decade, Real Madrid has been walking in the shadows of Barcelona. Despite its rich history, the Los Blancos have been suffering relative drought and are desperate to play catch up with their Catalan rival.
Apart from the Classico pressure, Zidane will be faced with the challenge of leading Madrid to their first win against the La Liga big guns...read more:http:///j5rmm7f

Career / Starting Small: The Addictive Habit Of Successful People by shyhighner1: 2:07am On Feb 26, 2016
It's not a coincidence that the greatest things were achieved starting small. Google Inc, which in 2015 generated 74.54 billion US dollars in revenue, started as a small project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin when they were both PhD students at Stanford University in Stanford, California.

When google was was incorporated in 1998, it was based in Page and Brin's friend's (Susan Wojcicki) garage. Today, the American multinational technology company has grown to become the world's biggest company.

One major lesson that can be drawn from Page and Brin's story is that project may come to you in form of an assignment or task, but with the right attitude you can turn a small project into professional success.

Investment / The Ambiguity Of Early Startup Days by shyhighner1: 8:31pm On Feb 20, 2016
The paypal story is a reminder that despite the uncertainties and ambiguity, we can overcome all hurdles if we never give up

“ The goal - at least the way I think about entrepreneurship - is you realize one day that you can't really work for anyone else. You have to start your won thing. It almost doesn't matter what the thing it is. We had six different business plan changes, and then the last one was PayPal.

If that one didn't work out, if we still had the money and the people, obviously we would not have given up. We would have iterated on the business model and done something else. I don't think there was ever clarity as to who we were until we knew it was working. By then, we'd figured out our PR pitch and told everyone what we do and who we are. But between the founding and the actual PayPal, it was just like this tug-of-war where it was like, "We're trying this, this week." Every week you go to investors and say, "We're doing this, exactly this. We're really focused. We're going to be huge." The next week you're like, "That was a lie."
